I hope this one gets re-implemented in Bones USA. Very cool, fun and funny model. The quality of the model wasn't so great, unfortunately. On the bright side though: I knew she needed a pink hair! And a pink hair was really asking for bright green armor and purple vest! 🙂 (All sorts of comments are always welcome!)

I am diving into some more of the white-undercoated Bones 1 models that are cluttering up my Drawers of Doom, models that for some reason or other have been stuck in limbo never to get to painted-heaven. This was painted mainly with the so-called "one and done" method; a single coat of Citadel Contrast paints on a white undercoat, apart from a few details in regular paint, such as the sword and belt buckle done in metals and the whites of the eyeballs. Some black used for blacklining around some of the edges and Vallejo Sand Yellow for the hair. The rim of the base needs a second coat of black. 77164 Elliwyn Heatherlark, Gnome Bard. Sculpted by Derek Schubert. 25mm base. It was part of the "Half Sized Heroes" subset of the Bones 1 Core set.

I felt like a slightly less involved project after Vlad, so I decided to paint Elliwyn Heatherlark. I swapped her weapon with a gladius from the Agema Romans and also decided to give her a more interesting item than the small shield she originally carried. As it happened it got again more involved, as I sculpted a Nure-onna, basically a snake with a human head, that she defeated in battle. Worked out well with the pose and provided me with the opportunity to experiment with gore effects. C&c very welcome. After the rather involved Vlad project I thought of painting something a tad less complicated. I chose Elliwyn Heatherlark, the Bones version that is. It is a simple conversion with a weapon swap, new sheath and ultimately a cut-off monster head in her hand. I will go heavy on weathering and signs of recent battle to contrast the diminutive appearance of Elliwyn. So far I finished the green overcoat and her face. Army Painter Glistening Blood Effect came in handy. I also tried to add a subtle texture to the overcoat. C&C as always welcome.

She has an odd face. After I primed her (well, brownlined her) I couldn't shake the notion that she was singing, deep in concentration on a note. So I painted her with her eyes shut, singing. Her shield is a wee little thing. I painted a French horn on it as a device. She was painted for the January Bones Beauty Pageant and I kind of rushed her at the end. I thought I would go back and fix her hair, but perhaps I will just leave her as a nice tabletop figure.
