  1. It's a cougar! Specifically it's a firepelt cougar, from the world of Golarion (Pathfinder RPG). It's also my submission for the Reaper Challenge League under the January theme of "Ice or Fire". Pathfinder authors have described firepelts as having black-and-red or "autumnal" coloration, but I know of only one image in a Paizo book: the 5th anniversary book of Rise of the Runelords shows one as mostly black with thin orange stripes running down its back and orange rings on its tail. I used that as a point of departure, plus extra reference in the form of photos of cougars, and phot
  2. Howdy, Talk to me pretty... Kev!
  3. Howdy, Honey badger don't care... RIkki Tikki Tavi, Kev!
  4. Howdy, It's not my place to question what bear does or does not do in the woods... Kev! P.s. But it DOES make a sound, though...
  5. For my Broken Gods D&D game, I've painted up all the figures for my group and am now getting around to painting up their mounts and animal companions. First off we have Bagheera, the Panther based off artwork in the spoiler. Bagheera is the animal companion of the party's monk/ranger and normally it is a standard medium-sized panther that he can use to fight along side him, but the panther can grow into this large mount when needed. Next is the Golden Lion, the mount of the party's bard, based on the artwork below: Next is the Nightmare for the part
  6. Over a total of about 90+ minutes split over two evenings I managed to get some paint on the cat. The bird had brown liner on it so far. I started with brown liner and worked up with stone grey and linen white. Getting the spots to look good was a pain. Onto the bird next! Gonna use the same set of colors I think.
  7. 77176 Wolf 77216: Wolf, Wolverinex2, bear, eagle 77392: Peryton 77230: Ankheg 77262: Vulture Demon 77198: Barrow Rats 77259: Fly Demon Clearing back log to prepare for Bones 3 by painting up similarly-colored minis
  8. I put a spray varnish coat on the final batch of figures for 2016. This group includes three Bones for the club's ongoing Frostgrave project, two Eureka Dark Ages Archers (a Viking and a Norman) destined for Saga warbands, and a converted Bones Bathalian, who is headed for the stars. That is to say, he's going to be part of my Rogue Stars collection, for Osprey's new generic small group SF game, at least while we figure out if we'll be playing it. Here's to hoping for a better 2017!
  9. Decided that I'm gonna do some quick and easy animals. Not much progress tonight, but then it was a late start...
  10. For Minivember I will try to do a different model each day (duplicates or similar models (from the same unit or suchlike still only count as one!). If you want to see the rest of my minivember minis, feel free to have a look at my painting blog..I won't be posting each and every one here, just the Reaper minis and maybe some that I find especially interesting. Yes, they will be speedpaints, just like all my minis. Seeing as I am starting out a week late, I have some catching up to do... Christmas is not too far off, and Critters are fun and here is Beary the Bear with Wolverinie the Wolve
  11. I've got 3 of these guys painted up for folks in my D&D game to use - the wolverine and the wolf are for my wife's druid, and the bear is for the party's barbarian who seems convinced that he'll be able to take on bear form at some point. I don't know if it's true, but whatever, he gets a bear mini! And while I was on the hangouts the other day, I asked my daughter what colour I should paint the bear and she said "Pink, purple, and green!" So that's where the stripes on the bear come from.
  12. Batch of Bones 2 jungle-themed animals on CMON Jungle bases! 77216: Panther 77371: Basilisk 77270: Spikeshells

  14. I got the Reaper Bones Animal Companion set (sku 77216)... and decided to paint them all at the same time. All I've done so far is put on the base coat, and the color layer. I did a little shading, but haven't done any highlights yet. Nor have I painted the bases (at all). Any thoughts or advice before I highlight them and do their bases?
  15. I must say, the small size of these models (especially the smaller of them) made this a nice challenge. I did my best to find reference photos of real animals to use as a basis for painting them, which was a big help. I have two sets of each of these, and with the exception of the wolf, wolverine, and bat, I painted the duplicates differently, to provide more variety. Here are pictures of the Animal Familiars: Bat, Crow, Red Fox, Weasel, and a 'black' cat. Bat, hawk, grey fox, ferret, and a brown-striped tabby cat. And here are pictures of the Animal Companions: Snow
  16. Hi, not really knowing what to do with some of the animals companions from Bones II, I decided to paint and setup a little vignette with them. Introducing Anwyn as a beast master / tamer. There are quite a few things I would want to redo on her (eyes, actually blending the highlights, etc...), but the "good enough" bug hit and i took it off the work in progress shelf. Here are a few snapshots of the familiars. The Bear: The Wolf: and the Fisher (at first I though it was a very big Marten) C&C welcome.
  17. March was hard - I moved, Elderspawn had spring break and my mother-in-law stayed for 10 days. Most of what painting time I could scratch out was put into spring exchange minis. One green, and one unfinished, but I can't post pics yet. So I had to figure out what I could finish in the last three days of the month. I figured it was animals or troops. Bones 2 was short of troops so..... The Wolf, The Bear, and the Wolverine I also did a male lion, but missed the cat that was actually part of this set. The bird I skipped on purpose. Edit: added the Cat
