Some of you may have seen this one on Facebook as it was my entry in the last Reaper Bones quarterly contest. I love painting Mouslings and really wanted to enter the contest this time but at first wasn't sure how I could make my version stand out especially as you only enter one photo. Eventually, I decided not worry about it and try something I have wanted to attempt for awhile, a night time scene with OSL. I wanted a really light colored glow and really wanted to go with white but could not figure out how to do it without leaving the bee painted only white. So I ended up doing some light glazes of yellow and loved how it turned out. Its not perfect but I think it is a good start for my first attempt for this type of OSL.

So my nieces are in town visiting from the east coast. The little one (6) loves painting anything, she was painting clothes pins while I was there the other day. The older one (10) loves art in general. So I thought it'd be a great thing to introduce them to minis painting. So with a little guidance they painted their first minis yesterday. 6 year old painted these: The 10 year old did these: I was really impressed by both of the girls. I left a bunch of craft paint, brushes, and some minis there so maybe they'll have done more last night. I'll find out today or later next week. It was great fun.

As part of this month's getting to know you thread a challenge was proposed, try a technique you've never done before. For me that was OSL. So I used the Mousling Druid to attempt this. For a first try I don't think it turned out too bad. The lighting in my room isn't great so I hope it reads okay.

Going to use this guy as my first attempt at OSL. This was inspired by Talespinner's challenge in the getting to know each other thread.

I bought some of the bones mouslings for my wife to paint. Well she never got around to it and I needed a druid/animal mage who was going to animate a treant in our game so I slapped some paint of this little guy. Now I'm really looking forward to the bee keeper one. I also have the rogue and assassin set too. I stole the shooting star robe idea from someone who was doing an eye painting tutorial on youtube. Mine comes no where near his though.

This is the first time I've posted my work and I'm rather proud of how they turned out. I painted this group of minis as a gift for a friend as he is a long-time fan of MouseGuard. Much like this is my first time posting my work, these were the first minis I painted in over a year and I only had about 40 completed minis under my belt before this. 77286: Mousling King and Princess Both minis were inspired by the animated Robin Hood movie Disney put out long ago. The rust on my skills is very evident on the princess; she was the second mini I painted out of the group. If I had to do it over, I'd re-think the fur colors. The king was painted later in the sequence and is much better. 77287: Mousling Thief and Assassin The assassin was an attempt at a medieval mousling Boba Fett. I'm pretty happy with the shading on the cloak and scarf but the NMM attempt on the sword is pretty bad. LTPK #3 is next on my to-do. I didn't have any particular inspiration for the thief so I decided to roll my own scheme and see where it went. The yellow sack looked horrible at first but I kept working up the layers and I'm pretty happy with the end result. 77288: Mousling Sorcerer and Samurai The samurai was another custom scheme. Shading white and black is hard. That's definitely something to work on in the future. The sorcerer's scheme comes from Mickey Mouse in Fantasia. Believe it or not, I attempted to shade the red... At least the beard turned out awesome :) 77289: Mousing Ranger and Yeoman This is probably my favorite duo out of the bunch. Disclaimer: I'm not entirely sure which is the ranger and which is the yeoman. To me, the ranger is the one with the hat. Like the king and princess, the ranger comes from the animated Robin Hood. He was the first mini I finished in this group. He has the same fur problem as the princess. Fortunately the green and red-orange make up for the fur. The yeoman, a.k.a. Mouse Solo, has much better fur. I could have added some other colors on the weapons, particularly the arrow, but I liked the idea of using one color that roughly matched Han's blaster. 77290: Mousling Druid and Beekeeper Rounding out the group is this pair. The beekeeper was another custom scheme. I wanted to see how the blue from the king and the green of the assassin looked on the same mini. Pretty good IMO. The druid was inspired by Wicket from Star Wars. I'm really happy with how the cloak and clasp turned out. This would be my favorite out of the entire bunch if I had just paid more attention to the final dry-brush on the face. That missing bit by the hood really irks me.

Needed a Christmas present for my sister, so I whipped up a few Bones mouslings for her. Pretty quick job, just a few hours for the lot of them.

I have painted up a half dozen of the Mouslings from the Bones II Kickstarter for characters in a game with lots of odd races. This one is a hunter / falconer, except it uses a bee instead of a bird of prey. WIP thread here. Other figures in this group: Yeoman "Robin Hood", Druid, Ranger With Bow, Thief, Assassin

This was my first diorama, and I think it's time to call it done. Mostly, because the wife said so and took it to work for her desk. A little ambush scene with mouselings. The rest of the story you can fill in for yourself I think... Fun to paint, took my time, and painted the mouselings over about 2 months, and did the base in bits and pieces, finishing it up in a final push over the past few weeks in a WIP thread. First pics are of the whole thing, then individual mouselings at the end. Thanks for looking, and thanks for the help in the WIP thread! Sadly, a couple of blurry pics in there. Oh well, the wife is happy with it. That's what counts.

Just a work in progress thread for some mouselings. Aren't they cute? I started on the princess, Because I was kind of in the mood to paint a dress. I went with a split red/gold color scheme with a little bit of dark blue for the hair and ghost white for the under skirt. My thinking had been "Spanish princess" in part because I too frequently fall back on pink/purple/blue colors for anything in a fancy dress. Still needs a little more lining on the edges of the dress and some more yellow highlights on the gold section. Probably could use a little more shading on the fur, which is gingerbread cookie/stained olive. So far these are really fun to paint.
