  1. All four Reaper Bones Stone Giants, but with some modifications: Replaced the club wielded by the guard with the one from the smaller, older giant Gave that giant a home-made hammer and a rock to throw. For colours I chose a base of old Citadel Adeptus Battlegrey, brightened with white for highlights. The cloth colours are all greyish hues rather than natural stone colours because I thought that might be too dull. Very happy with the purple cloth, which is done with the Reaper Dark Elf Skin triad. I tried to do decorations in bluish green jade (though if you think it's more like patina on old bronze, that's fine too) and blue crystals and gems as a change from my usual choice of red. Pleased with the "sparkle" on some of those crystals. Stone weapons are more traditional for AD&D stone giants but I thought stone hammers looked odd so went with greyish metal. It suits the overall pallete, I hope. These models are part of a stupidly ambitious diorama which you can see over here: Stone Giant Tribe
  2. Howdy, Painted this up for the contest, but I have so many giants, now I'll just have to paint up another... Bam, Kev!
  3. Since I’m playing in the Storm King’s Thunder campaign on Wednesdays, I’ve been inspired to work on one of the few giants I have in my collection, the Bone 2 Stone Giant from Expansion Set #1. As usual, I started by scrubbing him with a toothbrush and warm soapy water. His club arm fell off, and the glue holding in his other arm wasn’t looking so good either. If anything, it seemed more like rubber cement than the super glue I’m used to. I removed the arm, cleaned off the glue residue from all parts, and then glued him back together. I don’t have a lot of WiP pictures, but I started with a base of Grey Liner, and then added increasing amounts of Stone Grey, then Linen White to get it to this stage of the skin. I used the same colors for the eyes. A touch of Monster Maw was used for the lower lip, and the bags under his eyes. The club was painted with a heavy brush of Redstone Shadow over the liner. The loin cloth, belt, and straps were painted with Rich Leather. All of this was done in about 100 minutes (the runtime of Ant-Man). One thing that’s kept me away from painting big minis is the fact that I have little space to display them, or store them. They tend to have pretty big footprints (bases). This guy, while tall, isn’t really bulky. However he really should be on a 3” base… I’m thinking about magnetizing him, so he can pop off the base for storage.
  4. Very quick paintjob, good just for tabletop. I've used some gs to 'blend' the integral base into the round base I'v put it onto. WiP here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69574-stone-giants-base/
  5. I've just modeled some rocks trying to 'blend' thje Stone Giant's base into a 50mm round base I have put it onto. Plan is, after gs is cured, to sand it a bit, add sand to the base (actually, coffee ) then once painted, finish it with some static grass between the rocks. What do you think? Removing the figure entirely from the cast base would had been a better option? Point is I like the rocky base, so I tried a way to keep it trying to make it not looking too much as 'pasted in' ...
