  1. So my group will venturing in a desert climate soon, and I decided to paint up some encounters for them to deal with. First is a giant worm, one of the more dangerous of the encounters. It will burrow, and track the party through the sands, dirt. Think of it kind of like those big worms in the movie Tremors. That kind of concept. The second of the monstrous encounters will be a giant scorpion, which actually hides like a trapdoor spider. It will spring out and attack, due the party getting too close to its nest. What they wont realize until it is too late, is that carried on the scorpion is a swarm of babies, which will scatter and attack once the mother is killed. I haven't painted those yet, but that are primed and ready to go. Both pieces were done using a drab pallet of browns and yellows, and several washes. The picture bleached out a little bit due to using a flash, but most of the shading/layering can be seen. I am still working making desert bases look believable, and I referenced several pictures of the same area when trying to get the colors right. I still think its missing a little something, but overall I am happy with both. The are they are going to be in is almost completely void of vegetation, so there is only rock, dirt, and sand. As always, C&C is welcomed and appreciated! Enjoy! CAH
