  1. A combination of vacation, busy, and depressed has kept me quiet for a while, but I'm back! These were actually painted up during the winter, but after I took pictures I realized they had no haloes and that WOULDN'T do. Pro-tip: gold-colored jump rings are great. And then I got a nice piece of paper for a background and took new photos last week. Had a lot of fun with the wings on these, and the Enochian glyphs on the robes. Here are some Nolzur's Aasimar magic-users: and an Aasimar Paladin and 77364, the Angel of Shadows. Click for more: And here's 77363, the Deva. What a magnificent wingspan. And the Solar, 77594. The leonine features of this one make it look like one of the angels of eschatological vision, with beast features and skin of glowing bronze (I love using metallic complexions for Celestial beings). More of these greater beings: These, like the Genies, are powerfully weird to be around, an intrusion of a higher and more solid reality. Machen's "The Great Return" weird at the very least. From more prolonged exposure, expect stigmata, bleeding myrrh or rosewater, spontaneous lily growth, Saves vs. Enlightenment (as Stun, but you gain a piece of cosmic truth), "merciful" weapons that do damage with no pain, and of course the loose teeth, hair-shedding, and skin problems that come from excessive radiation dosage (for what else is radiant damage)? If you get Holy Cancer from the ultra-high-frequency GLORY, in three to five months the tumor detaches and flies off as a newborn putto. (I'd say cherub, but the cherubim look more like shoggoth orreries than fat winged babies. These Beings shown here are at the very normal end of the spectrum of Angel Weirdness. The farther end requires higher-dimensional topology to portray.)
  2. For this miniature I wanted a not pure black and red miniature. It's sort of my go to and wanted to change it up a little. From start to finish I have included images. I did take more images than these but I wanted to not have a mile long post. Besides ill have a video up soon for this. Why blue? Because I thought the blue would greatly contrast against my usual colors of black and red. It also posed a challenge on how to do it AND make it look good when finished. The last photo doesn't do it justice to be fair.
  3. Howdy, Inspiration came from the Reaper Quarterly Contest... Kev!
  4. This is Talespinner's fault. And also OneBoot's idea. (In another thread Talespinner challenged people to try something that was new —to them— and then Oneboot mentioned OSL and this specific model.) So, I acquired one 77364 on Saturday. Then I headed into the paint area to make a start. At that point "a idea flew into my funnel" after I spotted newish bottles of Blue Liner and Black Primer. These paints got mixed... ...FOR SCIENCE!™ The other part of the idea was to prime the mini with this inky dark mixture (roughly 50/50 Blue Liner/Black Primer**) where the lantern light could not reach. I Probably worked too fast. I am thinking the back of her head should be all inky as well. The pizza happened later. **That made a nice rich black. Next: there will be a sword swap.
  5. I painted up some angels, this is the first time I've painted feathers that I can recall. This is also my first attempt at painting marble. My eyes are slowly getting better. Edit: There are some better pics of the second and third angels a few posts down. Deva: Angel of Shadow: Angel of Protection:
  6. Started work on this lady a couple days ago. She's beautiful but right now I'm finding myself with very little enthusiasm for painting. I suspect it'll go away soon, but in the meantime I'm at least making sure I get a minimum of 10 minutes per day of painting in, so there's slow but steady progress. Anyway, here she is so far! Her hair is going to get a wash or two of black so it should end up looking more black than blue. Same with her wings. Thoughts? Suggestions?
  7. Originally she was just a test case for OSL off the lantern and spear blade. I then tried using some interference paints to see if they'd work better, and, well... they took over the piece. So dynamic lighting yes, OSL not really. But it's interesting how with interference paints, you can paint highlights that only show up when light strikes them from a specific angle, usually roughly back towards the light source, which for minis, tends to be just above the viewing position. Also of note, my camera was going insane trying to photograph this. I don't think it likes light reflecting off the mica straight into the sensor.
  8. 77384: Arathanel, Elf Ranger 89018: Sajan, Iconic Monk 77355: Count Lorenth 77364: Angel of SHadows 77397: Logrim Battlefury, Dwarf Paladin 77264: Female Centaur 77200: Sir Conlan 77205: Alistrilee 77220: Henryk, Dwarf Cleric 77199: Thund Bloodwrack, Barbarian 77084: Townsfolk: Innkeeper 77148: Mangu Timur 77074: Dain Deepaxe 77142: Townsfolk: Blacksmith 89011: Seelah, Iconic Paladin 77153: Snakeman warrior (arm replaced) 77216: Panther and wolf animal companions
  9. A bit of work on my massive backlog of Bones, while I consider how I want to base Excelsy. Couldn't resist doing a little bit of conversion work. Anyways, dual source strong OSL is kicking my tail, and also color identity is almost completely gone. I might knock it back to weak OSL just so I can splash more color into the mini. And also so I can do the sheer fabric effects that I wanted to paint. Sheer fabric is always fun to do.
