  1. Hey guys, just posting the start of my new army with a mix of miniatures and companies. Big golem is from Scotia Grendel. Iron Golems of coarse from REAPER, Great models, fantastic value. These were modified by cutting at the waist and rotating each a bit in different direction to make them look like two different models. The centaur guys are Manitc Abyssal Dwarf Half breeds. I like a lot of the Mantic stuff, but will be adding a bunch more DARKY DWARFY stuff from wherever I find them.
  2. Painted this back in February for the tabletop - used some colorshift paint for Greenstuff to add a little interest - not totally pleased with the eye glow, but it was time to move on.
  3. My Weird West campaign included the town of Lovelace, a steampunk bastion of order run by a Babbage engine of limited omniscience. Several of the citizens were clockwork-and-punchtape automata. Meet Citizen Rustbuckets, one of the oldest inhabitants! I love Stonehaven sculpts almost as much as I hate paying for them. Look at that benign goggle-eyed face and its genial steam-shovel underbite! He's here next to HLPr-bot, featured previously. And here's Marshall Crusher, the very long steam-powered arm of the law. I tried to make it look like he's got a boiler in there. Here's a sampling of the human and automaton population (in two shots because focus is hard).
  4. Greetings! I recently bought some Greenstuffworld colourshift paints & eagerly wanting to try them out, I searched through my (huge) Bones backlog for a suitably metallic mini. I grabbed the fantastically ominious Iron Golem from the Bones 4 Stoneskull Expansion & got to work. The blue areas are the colourshift paint, all the other areas are standard paints. I'm really happy with how it turned out. It's not as easy to see the effect on these pics as it is with your own eyes but you can make it out. There's no shading or highlighting on these areas apart from some silver to pick out the rivets & sharp edges on the arm plates. Thanks for looking!
  5. Howdy, Heavy Metal, Black and Silver.... Thanks for the inspiration, Kev!
  6. This is my painted mini for Wyvernfire's Secret Sophie. The request was to try something new and since I hadn't done much in serious modding lately or in the world of steampunk so after listening to a bit too much Abney Park I decided to try to model a steampunk automaton at the moment of epiphany when it realizes that it must leave its birthplace or risk dying before it ever lived. I started with 77514 because I liked the looks of the head and body. I then chopped pretty much everything else off to change its positioning, bringing it from a very static pose to what I hope is a kneeling position struck by the light of revelation. to give it more of a steampunk feel I added a boiler/power source to the back of the mini sculpted out of greenstuff and wood. Since I also received the bones three copper triad so I thought I would try some metal aging and distressing to go with the changes in the metal and to show the wear it went through. when I got the mini done, I was originally going to try a winter scene with snow and brush but I thought the stark brick with pieces of broken gears and clockwork scattered on the ground would be more fitting (quite literally after I noticed it would fit inside a protective case that was lying around on my desk ). the remains of the column was necess ary because I couldn't make its arm stretch to the ground without either bending him over (which was not the look I was going for) or making the arm look ridiculous. I am really pleased with the way the sculpting came out and pretty pleased with the aging results of the copper triad as well as some of my pastel aging compounds on the steel portions. I also liked the jewel effect on the boiler. I need to practice some more on the verdigris but overall I am pleased with the result. Anyway, here are the pictures!
  7. Hi, long time no type! I've been waiting for the Bones III figures to arrive specifically for this figure, because I wanted to try an old technique I used to use - Tamiya Clear paints over a metallic base. This is pretty much a speed technique for armored figures. It took me about an hour (not including time to let coats dry) to: Prime the figure using Reaper Blue Liner Base coat with Vallejo Model Air Steel Wash with Reaper Steel Wash Drybrush with Vallejo Model Air Silver Finish with Tamiya Clear Smoke over the top (this is effectively a tinted gloss sealant) Dot the sensor holes with Reaper Pure White & add two coats of Reaper Clear Red over the top The base is Reaper Concrete glazed up with Reaper Stone Wash used for definition. It's delibrately very clean - I could scuff it up and make it look a lot more worn, but I like the clean lines for this figure.
  8. My inaugural Bones 3 paint, the Iron Golem (menacing Sir Forscale that I got from either a paint-and-take at PAX or a learn-to-paint kit, can't remember which). I'm not sure it really comes out in the picture, but I started with black/gray zenithal priming layers, airbrushed a not-too-thick layer of a bright metallic over it, dark wash, and then heavily shaded it with pure black glazes (there's supposed to be some left/right shading with the glazes, but it doesn't show well in the pictures I don't think). Then touched all the gouges with the metallic again, and painted the optics and vents with red and orange, on the assumption that iron golems are powered by some kind of eldritch furnace internally. (Sir Forscale was splashed with whatever bright primary color was close at hand, like you do when you're a complete noob at a paint-and-take, and I hope I got the right SKU from the list that came with my shipment.)
