  1. The little queen all golden flew hissing at the sea To stop each wave Her clutch to save She ventured bravely Dragonsong and Dragonsinger were some of my favorite books as a kid, and my Elder spawn loved them as much as I did. Hopefully this is headed for Reapercon if I think I can get a Silver with it. 1: the layout. The base will need to have square sides, so that I can frame up a container to pour resin. the top of the base will be slanted, to show the gentle slope of a sandy beach, and I need big enough waves, to threaten the nest. hopefully sculpted from a Mat gel and possibly toilet paper foam. I'll have to change out the giantesses hand - the staff is not at all appropriate - I could try sculpting a fish net (hardest) a bag, a hand holding an egg, or just an open hand. cutting off the staff leaves her with a closed fist ... which doesn't fit either. 2: some sculpting. I wanted to make theis dragon wingless since I got him, Marhtangull just has such a good crouch, his wings actually spoil the lines. i have a few more sculped scales to glue on once the putty hardens. The Nest of eggs: must have 9+ a few that perish during hatching. The Ale Barrel was what I made when I realized I had mixed up WAY to much milput. 3: the golden Firelizard queen - I dont have the contrasts pushed high enough to really look mettalic, im a little worried about it I need to resculpt the eyes - firelizards need big cute anime sized eyes. I already removed the front legs and shifted the wings, adding a few sculped scales and connective wing flap. Would love advice, critiques or suggestions.
  2. Some may be aware (or not) but Reaper's Queen of Paint, Anne Foerster, has a Patreon going under the name of Painting Big. I am currently backing her at a level that give me an hour a month in a private video session. We decided to paint the same mini, Frost Giant Queen# 77592. The current focus of the lessons are concentrating on Layering then moving on to Glazing & Blending. Today we had our first session via skype and here are pics of what was accomplished on my end. We did have some technical difficulties (mainly on my end) as she couldn't hear me and could barely see what I was doing so I could only communicate via chat. Base skin color is a mix of Light Blue/Morning After Blues 2:1 ratio and lined with thinned Blue Liner. The eyes I started with blocking them out with Blue Liner, then Linen white, Ancient Oak, and Pure white for the highlight. This is where she is at the end of the first session. Homework: Eyes on the other Giants from the Bones 3 KS, work on lining with thinned paint trying to get crisper lines. Next session: Shading & Highlight of the face (and maybe the rest of the skin).
  3. Frost Giant King and Queen. C&C welcome.
  4. I've been working on her simce September or October and finally done. It's a shame I have to give her away.
  5. I started a second first giant queen recently. I've done a fair amount of work on her so far but still have a long way to go.
  6. I painted this lady both for the Reaper facebook contest and for my Dungeons & Dragons campaign. She was part of Bones 3 and is another example of a really pretty face. I love the whole mini! I didn't want top paint her skin blue but did want her to look cold. I added a little blue to the Reaper pale skin triad. I used Clear Purple to glaze in the shadows and glazed all over with very thinned Clear Blue. I ended up using my favorite colors for her clothes, shocking I know! I used my favorite wolf pelt colors for her cloak. I considered doing a snow leopard type pelt but wasn't sure if the longer fur looked catlike. Who knows, maybe I will have to get a second one and give it a try! She was fun to paint!
