I was going through my media library for ideas last night for Girot's Song Contest and happened upon "Flood" by Jars of Clay. MP3: http://markshire.com/playerimages/flood/flood_by_jars_of_clay.mp3 And after listening to it for a while (repeatedly) I came up with this concept from it. "Ezren, having given a good fight against the sea monster, calls upon the Dark Maiden to collect his soul before drowning and being locked in servitude under the water again." Scale might be off from pic to pic of the minis but I wanted to pick up the Dark Maiden anyway and figured Ezren makes a nice addition to her base. Obviously, this is subject to change at this point. But there's the core of it. Should be interesting. Feel free to offer up ideas, options, opinions and such. Special thanks to Girot for previewing this idea and offering his insights. They are under consideration as well.

While I've been relatively inactive, my lovely wife has not. She's been working on a selection of figures some of which in my admittedly biased opinion are much better than anything I've ever done >.> 77265 - Drys, Dryad I love this figure and the paint job is so subtle. The shading on the greens is superb - unfortunately, I'll have to work out how to link the front again : ) EDIT - front of dryad: https://goo.gl/photos/1FRcQ5ZqZoqGt3dCA 77313 - Krug, Hill Giant Yet again, some gorgeous shading on this figure. 77314 - Golan, Hill Giant This figure is very... uh, purple. But I think it works well. I might have to go over it and tidy up some of the tree branch club - the paint coverage isn't as good as it could be. But still a lovely bit of work. 89013 - Ezren, Iconic Wizard She has this annoying tendancy to rattle off freehand that's better than my "paint by numbers" detail work, elf her eyes! This one was a fairly fast paint, with not as much shading as she's done elsewhere. 89014 - Seltyiel, Iconic Magus She refers to this one as her "Michael Jackson" figure, for obvious reasons : )

His hands moved swiftly over the old parchment, smoothed by the many hands before him. The Gnome was most helpful, almost a bit too helpful, always with this gentle smile on his face, his eyes hidden behind thick glasses. He took another sip from the dark brown ale and carefully spooned some stew in his mouth, not to soil the map nor his beard. The strong flavour of venison was a good indicator that the cook used fresh local meat, not ground up spoiled beef as was the case in the last establishment he dared to set a foot in. Tymora be blessed he knew the one or other herb that would cure an upset stomach. He looked again at the hand drawn ruins, his lips forming a silent word: “Everanthaâ€. The “Watchful Fortress†in the common tongue. Only old stories told around the fireplace spoke of the evil that befell the Elven kingdom, yet little was known about its demise, less even about the time when it stretched from East to West, North to South. When he first arrived in Greifshold he craved old sealed away books and dry parchment that would tell of these people, their songs, their poetry, how they lived, what trials they had to face in this harsh land. But all he got was the shake of a head, a gentle smile or a sigh: the foreigner that expected everything to be revealed to him without effort. Humans arrived late in these lands and were of a simple mindset. They were more concerned how to survive the next winter, not with old stories and haunted places. Still, as the Gnome told him, every few years adventuring groups that heard of riches untold would make their way to one of these frozen ruins. Few returned, some barely alive, frost-burned or crazed, some with artifacts, rusty and broken, but still of an elegant beauty, entirely absent from the local handicraft. What did he care for gold. Knowledge and knowledge alone he desired. Artefacts, yes, telling him of these people, how they celebrated, how they fought, but maybe more than this, sealed away down below a library would await him, the first to roam its shelves after thousands of years. At the first light of day he would depart. His fingers stopped at Walhafrid’s Stede, the little drawn chimney smoking invitingly. His first stop. And then only a good days travel further west. He sat back and finished his meal with a fine pipe. Maybe the last bit of comfort he would have for the next weeks. Snow began to fall, its icy embrace mirroring the cold hands reaching out for him. Not weather, not undeath would stop him. The flame always prevails, it always consumes. He delved into the darkness, only to meet more mindless marionettes, their purpose long faded and replaced with everlasting hatred. What would the flame reveal? You want to learn more? This dispatch should satiate your curiosity!

I love the sculpt for this guy. So much fun stuff to work with. But in the end I got fed up with him and wanted him done - he's intended for tabletop use, and I decided that all the fiddly pouches & stuff hanging off his belts weren't going to get the time and attention they deserved, so they kinda got a brown splatted on there and I called it done. To be honest, I'll probably come back and touch this guy up later when I'm feeling ambitious, but for now... this works. I think I actually had the lighting turned up a little too much for the photo... He's got fairly noticeable highlighting in real life, but it mostly washed out on here. Oh well, at least you can see his fire hair, and the silly lava base I made for him. This is my Frostgrave apprentice, an elementalist focusing primarily on fire (shockingly!). The actual wizard is still a WIP; she'll be along probably towards the end of February, at the rate I've been going on her. In the meantime, I have this guy looking menacing on the battlefield.

Finally got a real start on my first wizard destined for Frostgrave. Not thrilled with his face - I'm having a lot of trouble with eyes, shockingly - but I've decided to move on to other stuff. I might come back and try to make his face less weird later. He's an elemental wizard, primarily fire, and I thought it'd be fun to do the hair up as if it were flames. I think it's coming out OK finally, but it's taken some tinkering. So! Thoughts? Things I should change? Did I actually manage to do something well?

This was an interesting model to paint. I got a little muddled in the center, as there is a ton of detail there. This was kind of a quick paint. I notice, however, the subtle shading I used looks much better in person. I need to set up my camera for pics again. Currently I am using my iPhone. At any rate. Here he is!

Man, there's a lot of details on these minis. Every time you think you are finished you see a buckle or something you missed. Some of the detail gets a bit muddy in the Bones material, but overall these have been fun to paint. Nice to not have to make color choices sometimes... Related note - how the heck does everyone pronounce Seltyiel? I love me some Pathfinder but the names sometimes... Damiel Seelah Ezren Seltyiel
