Finished this figure over the weekend. Painted to a moderately high tabletop standard*, trying for an interesting color scheme that is new to me. * Except for the eyes, which are very weak.

My neighbor is DMing a new pathfinder campaign soon, so I have taken it upon myself to make minis for the party. Our first game is tentatively on Tuesday, so it may be a short-lived WIP. The characters are: Dirk, the flaxen-haired and violet-eyed elf fighter. He's not too bright, but that doesn't bother him, he's just here to fight bad guys. A seventh son from the elven kingdom, he will be dressed in rich reds and gold. A'con, a fighter with anger issues. She comes from the forest kingdom, and will be dressed in bright gold and deep emerald green. Ani, the ego-driven bard and A'con's sister. She's convinced that she can do anything better than anyone else. Her favorite color is orange, so I think she will be dressed in a bright orange vest. Cathal, the dwarf cleric. I honestly don't know much about this character. So I'm just going to wing it. Varian, the spell thief. He is laying low after stealing from the wrong wizard. I am going with a red/purple/blue color scheme for him. We also possible have a sixth character, a half-halfling half-giant. He's been described as having the appearance and proportions of a halfling, but the size of a human. I am honestly completely at a loss for what to do. Any suggestions? I am looking through my many minis from the first two bones kickstarters, but nothing has jumped out at me yet.

I decided to start painting up minis for my various PCs -An unidentified Grenadier Halfling fighter (chain & shield) as Lvl 7 Rogue, Magnus Perrywhimple (soon to be con only) -Mystic Theurge as Lvl 1 Monk/ Lvl 1 Rogue Stede Blackthumb (Acolyte of Candlekeep), on an acquisition mission to atone for learning and copying ritual magic without permission -Juliette, as Lvl 1 Half Drow Sorceress, Grz'zilda (the Ghastly Gourmet) who was rescued from Hillsfar and while hiding her heritage is now adventuring. I've done a few passes at a few things. But not full base coats yet. Photos later.

As the title says, I just started painting miniatures during spring break, having no prior artistic background. I'd read a few tutorials, bought some minis from my FLGS, some brushes and paints from the local corporate megamart, and got to work quickly. I didn't want to make a massive investment going into a new hobby, so I used cheap Apple Barrel paints and bargain brushes, which I understand is A Bad©. Anyways, without further ado, here is 5 weeks worth of progress! The Kingmaker campaign I am running has some new players and here is the first of many miniatures I'll be painting for my players. I had a good time with this one! Bob is a fantastic sculptor. (But you all knew that already.) The character is an oracle of Sarenrae, albeit a bookish one, so I played down the left hand's arcane spellcasting from the concept art and redid him in Sarenite colors. Okay, fun stuff out of the way. I think every choice I made resulted in making the overall painting harder. The right hand is holding something glowing with OSL. I decided that thing was going to be glowing yellow instead of a nice even Sol spectrum. (And yellow light on a blue scarf! Oy!) I decided the robe was going to be white. I also decided that this OSL-heavy scene would happen during the day! I don't know what I was thinking. Oh, and I stopped counting at about two dozen attempts at the face. I'm not sure how many I ended up with in total--three dozen? Four? But that sure didn't go the way I was hoping it would. Poor guy's wearing cake makeup. Anyway, I view all of these things as experiments and I think he turned out fine for tabletop, which is great, but if you have any particular advice--especially on color choice--I'd love to hear it.
