  1. Rayguns and Rocketships Painting pulp figures isn't really my thing, but this might be a nice resource if you do.
  2. Once again, the pen ink calls, inviting one and all to participate. That's right, it's Inktober time, and the prompts are flying thick and furious. Lessee; I've got seven prompt lists handy, and if anyone's got more, feel free to post 'em. ... I got two of these from Twitter, the rest from either googling or following links. The general rule from the Official Prompt List is 'pen and ink, one drawing a day', but I am certainly not holding anybody to that if they don't feel like they can do it. I also bravely ignore the 'pen and ink' rule, but I don't necessarily suggest my slapdash 'pick something from a list and go after it with whatever media amuses me' method, either...
  3. New books be Dave Taylor, one of which features Aaron Lovejoy, Matt Dipietro, and Elizabeth Beckley of Miniature Monthly and others. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1560579763/the-art-of-volumes-1-3?ref=user_menu If you would like to just get two of the three books, the best way to do so is to pledge for one of the books, then increase your pledge total to include the Add-on price for the second book below. We will be using BackerKit as our pledge manager and that's where you'll have the opportunity to make those specific choices. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments or by messaging me here on Kickstarter. THE ART OF… For more than 30 years I have spent a great deal of time talking with hundreds of artists who paint miniatures – for fun, for a living, for relaxation – and I am always intrigued to learn more about their philosophies, approaches, and processes. Some of these artists have spent decades refining their technical skills, while others bring their “traditional” art training to the miniatures world. Some draw inspiration from the most unusual of places, while others find it in popular culture turned on its head. THE ART OF… series of books will highlight fantastic miniatures artists from around the world, bringing their thoughts and passions to stand alongside their magnificent and inspirational work. We’ll be featuring both individuals and groups in this series, as we explore innovative approaches, studied refinements, and even tangential influences. These books will be both a celebration of the artist and their art, as well as an opportunity for them to present their thoughts on particular topics and let the world know why they approach their art the way they do. These will not be “How To” books, but rather complements to their existing outlets work that the artists are already doing. This is just the beginning of THE ART OF… series. With so many wonderful miniatures artists, there is so much potential to explore. Volume 1 – THE ART OF... Miniature Monthly Miniature Monthly is a collective of three professional painters from the US – Aaron Lovejoy, Elizabeth Beckley, and Matt DiPietro – who have a Patreon (Miniature Monthly) producing painting tutorial videos. All three are (or have been) studio painters for a number of different companies and they each bring something different to the table. This book will be a high-quality, softback artbook of 128 pages. Aaron will cover: • Creating a team/collective – looking at The Painters’ Guild and Miniature Monthly • Striking a balance between Speed and High-end painting • Freehand – Adding depth and texture Elizabeth will cover: • Smooth Skin – featuring work on the Kingdom Death minis • Chibi Art – how painting chibis differs from “standard” miniatures Matt will cover: • Ancient methods with infinite possibilities. • The Art of miniatures, – Finding your voice and engaging with the audience. https://www.patreon.com/miniaturemonthly https://www.facebook.com/miniaturemonthly https://www.instagram.com/artoflovejoy/ https://www.instagram.com/miniature_mistress/ https://www.instagram.com/mattdipietroart/ Volume 2 – THE ART OF... Christof Keil Christof Keil (aka k03rnl) is an artist from Germany who has made a name for himself with his incredible kitbashes and conversions and his work to turn 2D artwork into 3D pieces. Christof’s day job as a blacksmith working on enormous metal sculptures has given him a precise eye for balance and motion. This book will be a high-quality, softback artbook of 96 pages. • Kitbashing – a focus on anatomy, balance, silhouette • The Black Phalanx – a kitbashed project • Sculpting – creating reliefs and busts • Painting Black – an exercise in mimicking the masters • Black Templars – recreating the John Blanche art of 3rd Edition https://www.instagram.com/k03rnl/ https://www.instagram.com/black.phallanx.sculpts/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfsw4HOpTJ2MWvSbiBCT7-g Volume 3 – THE ART OF... Ana Polanšćak Ana is a professional miniatures painter from Croatia who is widely regarded for her world-building miniatures art. Her converted and sculpted miniatures blend seamlessly with her terrain work to create dark corners of worlds that beg to be explored – at your peril. This book will be a high-quality, softback artbook of 96 pages. • World Building – a focus on selecting a starting point and key developments. Working on your own worlds and collaborating with others • Gardens of Hecate – a world created by Ana • AoS28 – Hosting the LEGEN and the Sunhold campaigns • Sculpting – What it’s like to turn concepts into physical sculpts for the miniatures market, and the reliquary/artifact creations https://www.instagram.com/gardensofhecate/ http://gardensofhecate.blogspot.com https://gardensofhecate.com

  5. So there's a thing called Inktober/Drawlloween that @Pingo reminded me about, where you draw/paint/sketch/art a thing every day during October. There's the "official" list of daily prompts... and this other one that Pingo found that I think is cooler. So who else is up for the challenge?

  8. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/originalmagicart/foglio-portfolio?ref=discovery_category_newest Story Hello, and welcome to the Foglio Portfolio! Kaja and Phil Foglio have illustrated 117 cards for Magic: The Gathering, with their first image included in Magic's very first expansion, Arabian Nights. Here are all of the cards they've illustrated for the game. After being away from the game for many years, the Foglios are back to offer officially licensed Playmats and Prints of their most famous and popular Magic artwork. The Foglio Portfolio offers you a once in a lifetime opportunity to bring your favorite Foglio art to your gaming table. Each Playmat has the following features: Premium Stitched Edge - A brand new offering from UltraPro, each mat will have high quality stitching around every edge, ensuring that your Playmat will last a very long time. Limited Edition - We will never be reprinting any of these Playmats with a stitched edge, ever again. This is your only opportunity, ever, to get this artwork on a stitched playmat. (Playmats are printed in units of 50, so we'll print to demand, but no more than the closest unit of 50.) Signed by the Artist - Phil and Kaja will be hand signing each and every playmat. Minimal Logos - We've worked with UltraPro and Wizards of the Coast to minimize the impact of their logos as much as we possibly can. If you don't see your favorite piece of Foglio art in the options above, don't fret! Additional Playmats will be unlocked through Stretch Goals. If we meet all of our initial Stretch Goals, Backers will be able to vote for additional designs. The design with the most votes will be added to the project.
  9. I could have sworn I had started a thread already. Ah, well. Here's a drawing I did related to a vampire game, with an enlarged detail to show pencil work. It's 5 inches by 8 (12.7 x 20.3 cm). The detail is about 1.75 x 2 inches (4.4 x 5 cm).
  10. Any interest in a new round of trading cards? What is an artist trading card (ATC)? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artist_trading_cards Artist trading cards (ATCs) are miniature pieces of art that are traded around the world. Artists create, trade and collect art at organized "swap" events, either in person or online. The only official rule for ATCs is the size: 2.5" x 3.5". Most swaps are open to any media, materials or techniques as long as the card fits into a standard trading card sleeve. http://www.tinteddy.com/introduction-to-atcs-what-are-artist-trading-cards/ If I can get 6 or more people I will set up a round of 1-1 trades for forum members. Post here or PM me if you'd like to participate. I am thinking of an Oct 1 start date and Dec 1 due (in the mail) date.
  11. Hi, this is project of my friend, she is a talented artist. I`ll be glad for your help to make this project to life. Kickstarter
  12. NICHOLAS, DUKE OF NOMADS SYMBOLISM: Craftiness, ambition, facial tattoos When reversed, do NOT give money to panhandlers today. When upright, today is a good day to look for treasure in the usual locations, particularly Hot Topic and your favorite hobby shop, but NOT used bookstores; to a Nomad, a book is something you use to level a table with one short leg. QUOTE: "I have something in which you may be interested..." PIFFLE, FOOL OF DRAGONLORDS SYMBOLISM: Humor, fun, sheltered idiocy When reversed, do NOT get into arguments online, and stay away from the comments sections. When upright, it's a good day to do something fun, but as always, avoid teh stoopidz unless you have a higher level of protection than most of us, who are bogged down with consequences. QUOTE: "I say, I say, I say!"
  13. I backed their first one, and it delivered well and quickly, with very nice quality. Good for in-game props, or game room decor!!!!

  15. And now, for something completely different. Yes, yes. I know. Not miniatures. But! Shiny! Art! With.. with .. with stuff. *Sage nod* The book part usually gets shipped with efficiency; medals and patches and things seem to depend on the efficiency of the crafter making them, but communication is good and things generally show up. I haven't grabbed hardbacks; I've been happy with the soft covers.
  16. This started out as a series of posts in the Randomness thread as I was noodling about with ideas. But things in Randomness get lost fast, and people seemed interested. So here is how I developed a pen and ink drawing from a preliminary sketch to (hopefully - not quite there yet) a finished drawing. I'm currently involved in a game set in the World of Darkness combined with Exalted. My PC is a (former) vampire with a certain amount of mental baggage. This drawing started as a tiny doodle in my sketchbook about The Beast Within, a major leitmotif in White Wolf's vampire games, as seen in the character's House of Memory (a sort of mental structuring invented in the real world in classical times to help people remember awesome amounts of stuff). The original sketch was about 4 by 8 cm. The text (if anyone is interested) is "... I could see what of my character was now imposed. Alien ways --" "You weren't frightened?" "They are only memories -- Diagnoses, if you will, of the actual thoughts. They cannot harm me."
  17. My name is Mike and I've lurked here for a while. I've done some comic art and concept work for small miniature companies and thought I would share a little bit of my work.
  18. “They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.†- Andy Warhol 2015 was a really big year of emotional recovery for me. It's taken several years, but I truly felt that change last year. So with that progress in mind, I decided I wanted more. I've dedicated 2016 to learning about my favorite thing in the whole wide world - ART! I've got a lot to learn and a lot of time to get back. I'm going to make it worth my while to make time for art. I'll be using this thread as a goal marker if you would like to learn with me. These are my 2016 Goals: PAINTING I would like to have a dragon and a snowglobe done this year. I want to have a ReaperCon entry as well. Progress will be posted on the normal part of the forums. - Mini Painting - Speedy Swashbucklin' Sea Scamps, Pokemon themed ReaperCon/Spring Exchange - Non Mini Painting - Drink Coasters, SCULPTING Sculpt something! Whether it's terrain or a Parading Penguin Present Party, I want to start! - Sculpting completed - Pokemon themed Spring Exchange, wolf lying down and campfire - Sculpting in progress - Learning to sculpt thread! DRAWING I have a sketchbook that I'd like to fill up by the end of the year by drawing in it for a few minutes every day. I'd like to get better at drawing - I want to learn the fundamentals and develop my own unique blend of animated and realistic styles. I'll post my favorite drawings of the month here. The rest can be seen on my Facebook albums, which are set to public. You can add or follow me if you would like. Longest consecutive streak: 245 Days (May 1-December 31) 316/365 = 86%!! 19. NSFW link: https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2016/jul/09/thousands-strip-naked-in-hull-for-spencer-tunick-photographs 3200 British volunteers took off their clothes and were painted four shades of blue and photographed in the streets of Hull as part of an art project by American photographer Spencer Tunick. Tunick specializes in large photographs of crowds of nude people. The blue color is symbolic of Hull's relationship to the river and the sea. I was amazed at the cheerful volunteerism exhibited -- the models are unpaid -- and the sheer variety of people participating. It seems to me an eye-opening sample of what regular people look like naked (well, partly, since in this project each person is painted monochrome).
  20. What would I put in it? Fantasy? Fantasy and sci fi? Fantasy, Sci-fi, and natural things like normal animals?
  21. My daughter (well actually stephdaughter) turned 18 recently. For a few years now, she likes to paint every now and then, She urged me to try it, hence the drawing of the vampire Queen. http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/60506-vampire-queen-drawing/ But I think minis are more my style. This is her work as promised. She made these between 14 and 16 years old.

  24. This is an interesting concept... http://www.thisiscolossal.com/2014/06/sheets-of-glass-cut-into-layered-ocean-waves-by-ben-young/ Figure Painting Magazine shared the link on Facebook. Thanks for the idea, Shane. Excerpt from article: My takeaway on this concept ... using sheets of plastic in a similar manner to make a water topped plinth. Tape the sheets together exposing the watery side and using a dremel or similar tool create a water-like rough edge, then using the opposite end attach them to a block or something. Pour resin around the bottom of the assembled sheets. Or just drill holes for bolts to make it steampunkish. With some colored plastic sheets mixed in you can add colors or dimensional shapes like a flat fish or some currents and swells. Example from site:
  25. Hello Reaper Peoples. I am looking for pictures of Sophie the Suculent.....errr Succubus and having a terrible time of it.
