Youngest Vixen's Boyfriend has a friend who owns the Boardgame Dark Souls. He asked if I would paint the minis for him. So here's the first batch. The main characters and the core troops. I have been spending Minivember catching up a bit on my Portable Fantasy Campaign project. I’ve been chipping away at it as a campaign for five armies since early 2017, and it builds on a 2014 initiative to put a travel fantasy game in a box that will fit under an airline seat, so that I can take it to a convention regardless of my mode of travel. Anyway, I decided to have a little fun and paint an unplanned stand of figures as a reward for finally getting the first couple of stands of orcs for the orcish army finished. All three figures here are from the Caesar Miniatures Fantasy Adventurers box set, originally issued around 2010. As a result of early imprinting by the Airfix company, I have always had a fondness for the 1/72 plastic figures, and I bought a bunch of the initial release when Caesar started making fantasy figures. Unfortunately, they have been rather intermittantly in production, and don’t seem to be currently available. Even finding a box floating in the Bay of Ease would be a small miracle at the moment. But, I do have a bunch.* As you can see by Sir Forescale shimmed up so that his feet are about level with the feet of the sorceress et al., these women are pretty small by Reaper standards. (This does make finishing 30 in a month a somewhat easier task, counterbalanced a little by the level of brush control needed to work at that level. For whatever reason, Caesar packed a lot more of these sorceresses in their boxes than the second, left-hand-staff, figure. (See PSR article linked above.) We have played around in various ways with the large spheroid on the top of her staff. My sons have painted it into a skull; I sliced one off and added a rustic broom using some two-part epoxy, etc. For this one, I tried going with a plant theme, so I halved the staff head, painted a flower on top, and leaves on the sides. The flower theme is then echoed in her bodice embroidery and the bodyguard’s shield. That all seemed like a good excuse to use a flowering tuft on the base. Back to painting orcs…

Our differences make us strong. With the Stonehaven Adventurers 2020 project, we are creating a variety of adventuring parties. Some will include variations of a single fantasy race, others will be a mix of different fantasy races. The parties will not all include the same number of miniatures becuase of the difference in the cost of production due to size, and not all of the parties will be included in the Core Set. Some are only available as add-ons. The miniatures will be made in the USA. They will be cast in 100% lead free pewter (or polyurethane resin in the case of the dragon) and some assembly will be required. They will be sculpted on the standard 28 mm scale. Slotted round bases will be included with miniatures that are pictured on round bases. And now we present the Core Set: Pictured from top to bottom, left to right: Grippli Warrior, Grippli Samurai, Kobold Archer, Half-Dragon Wizard, Pygmy Lizardfolk Rogue Cold Blood Clan! Though they come from disparate backgrounds, these heroes have been bound together by cruel circumstance. Finding themselves aboard a prison vessel bound for the quicksilver mines, they combined their strengths, made their escape, and discovered that they weren't so different after all. They are not above creating a few extra casualties in order to "find" a few more treasures! (Want another one? Add-on cost: $25) Pictured from top to bottom, left to right: Male Human Blademaster, Female Human Monk, Male Human Monk, Male Human Bard, Male Human Jester Lord Rhatagon's players travel from town to town, performing for the peasants and generally distracting from the privations of peasant life. Each has their own past that they are running from, but none moreso than Rhatagon himself, who travels with his minstrels seeking to rebuild the honor of his house. (Want another one? They are the pawns of greater powers and are seen as vermin by the "civilized" races. But just as men can surely be evil, goblins can surely be good. (Want another one? Add-on cost: $25) Pictured from left to right, top to bottom: Male Tengu Rogue, Male Dwarven Cleric, Male Halfling Trickster, Male Dwarven Guard, Male Tiefling Geomancer The Doublecreek Watch has had its hands full lately with escaped convicts, charlatans, and would-be heroes running around stirring up trouble! It's going to be one zany adventure, culminating in the wacky awakening of ancient horrors! (Want another one? Add-on cost: $25) In addition to the Core Set, we've got some other stuff that is only available as add-ons. This is that stuff! Pictured from top to bottom, left to right: Male Orc Fighter, Female Orc Cleric, Female Orc Archer, Male Orc Wizard, Male Orc Warrior The massive mountain Orcs have formed an uneasy alliance with the mountain queen. Orc warriors, once feared and killed on sight, are now commonplace among the caravan guards and mercenary companies that come down from the northern steppes. (Add-on cost: $37) The Mushroom Folk have lived under the dark trees for as long as time has been counted. Mercurial creatures, they can change their form to best suit the needs of the coming day. Although many will prefer to maintain a single form, others will change form each night: from simple form to warrior form, or from spore form to mage form. Each form has its strengths and drawbacks. The Mushroom Folk have interchangeable parts and can be assembled into thousands of different combinations. Add-on: Mushroom Folk Subset A (Add-on cost: $25) Add-on: Mushroom Folk Subset B (Add-on cost: $25) Add-on: Mushroom Folk Subset C (Add-on cost: $25) Add-on: Mushroom Folk Subset D (Add-on cost: $25) Mushroom folk unlocked by stretch goals will be added to the Mushroom Folk Set. The Reclining Dragon rests comfortably on your tabletop, awaiting delicious adventurers to walk into its jaws. Or you could barter with it, or whatever, he's pretty chill that way! This dragon is big! It measures 105mm across and will be cast in polyurethane resin. The wings come unattached. (Add-on cost: $25) As we hit these stretch goals, more miniatures will be added to the Core Set, Mushroom Set, and/or made available as add-ons! First up: When we reach $12,000, Cyragnome the gnomish swashbuckler will be added to the Core Set. He will also be available as a $4 add-on. Cyragnome is a fearless fighter with a flair for the dramatic. Many a bandit has had his knees bloodied by Cyragnome's flashing blade! When we reach $14,500 the Male Goblin Warrior will be unlocked and added to the Otker and the Mob adventuring party in the Core Set. He will also be available as a $4 add-on. Goblin warriors are fearless in battle. Often facing much larger foes, they often triumph through a combination of lucky crits and really bad attack rolls from lvl 1 adventurers! When we reach $17,000 the Female Goblin Ranger will be unlocked and added to the Otker and the Mob adventuring party in the Core Set. She will also be available as a $4 add-on. Ricochet the goblin ranger got her nickname by bouncing a bolt off a guard's shield and into another guard's exposed back. Once these goals are reached, we will introduce new ones! Wow! My latest project is my recently arrived Stonehaven Adventurers 2018. There's a nice amount of variety in this set, though I do miss the themes of their old projects. The more traditional adventurers first: The Human Ranger. Stonehaven Humans have really grown on me. The Hireling. I can see him being useful for all sorts of D&D games, or as a Mule for Frostgrave. The Half-Elf Cleric. I liked her pet. My surprise favorite of the Kickstarter, the Half-Elf Witch. Another caster in a very evocative pose, the Human Elemantalist. Another female miniature in a unique pose, the Human Thief. Last of the more "traditional" heroes, she's labelled "Human Sorceress" but is clearly a Lich in disguise. I figured the Owlfolk could use their own flock. They'll be seeing use as Aarakocra, I'm sure. The Child Owlkin Engineer. Looks like a Bubo. The Pygmy Rogue. The Owlkin Fighter. The wise old owl, possibly named Virgil.

Do yourself a favour and take a look at what's on offer even if you've not backed one of Stonehavens projects before. Lots of unique and fun concepts scattered throughout, Plus they've done things a bit differently and have everything already sculpted and shown. Love the cloaked mysterious strangers.

So, I have a whole bunch of Reaper heroes to show off. Is it against the rules if I don't look up the number on every one of them for posting? . And then there was one that was topless (with purple skin).

The earliest arrival of my Kickstarter bounty, we have an adventuring group of ladies in sensible shoes (and clothing), and some of their companions and rivals. They may see Frostgrave, they may see Faerun, they may just see a shelf, who knows? The party: The Half-Orc Cleric. I had suggested during the campaign she would also make a suitable Bounty Hunter holding up a wanted poster...I went that route. I regret not trying to draw Flynn Rider, but I never get his nose right. The Barbarian Queen: Tiefling Warlock: Witch or washerwoman Monk: Paladin: Noblewoman: Brigand. He must be after the shoes. The last of my recently finished works, a batch of mostly Halflings from Stonehaven's latest Kickstarter. Unfortunately, same with my recently completed Lizardguys, these had a case of fuzzy primer. I had taken several steps to fix it, but the further I got along the more obvious it became. Thankfully, the pictures seem to magnify the situation, and the roughness isn't quite as obvious in person. However, the rest of the batch is soaking in the strip for now. First, we have the titan of the group, the Old Growth Treant: A Berserker, Boar, and combination of both: A Barbarian, actually a refugee from Dragon Bait Miniatures, but he fit this group too well to leave out: The Halfling Thief, who has now had her hood issues readdressed after seeing how this album came out: A pious Paladin named Reed: A fiery-headed Archer who looks quite manic in this close-up, hrm: The Linksman, an athlete prepared for any encounter: A Stablemaster, because we always need some villagers: A Halfling Maiden and pet: Skelly, the Village Elder...and we they say Elder, they aren't messing around:

Hello gals and guys, it's been too long since I shared anything. I've become somewhat obsessed with the licensed Advanced Dungeons & Dragons miniatures produced by Grenadier Models from 1980-1982. These are usually referred to as the "Gold Line." I never had a true appreciation for these sculpts as a kid, but with 35 years in the hobby. I've finally started to come around. I'm thinking of collecting the entire line now! I'm amassing quite a little collection. I will post up more pictures as models are finished as long as there is any interest. I'm sure that these models are older than some of the regular users, and I don't want to bore anyone. Thanks for looking. Comments and questions are always welcome!
