I've had a bit of a hiatus lately for the best possible reason (the stars have aligned and I've actually been able to spend time playing some games with friends...imagine that!). Anyway, this guy is from Next Level Miniatures' last Kickstarter. He was quick and fun to paint up. Tough to get good angles of in the photos, though. Comments welcome!

These are the minis I painted for Fealron for Secret Sophie. He said he was wanting some monsters that would live in a cavern or ice cavern. So, I imagined Ankheg (77230) as the mother and the channel grub (77226) as the larva. I painted the channel grub in blues and purples with yucky pink suckers. I used a little water effect on the slime trail it was sitting on. (Like a giant yucky slug!) I just painted the base for gaming like it was shiny ice. I used a gloss varnish because I wanted the grub to look slimy and icky! I wanted to use the same color scheme for the mother but I wanted her to look like she had a hard shell. I wanted it to look slightly iridescent like a big bug. I used shades of purple and blue and mixed in some bronze metallic. It doesn't show well in the pictures. I painted her base to match the grub's. The last guy is Kegg, Bugbear Hunter (77233). I wanted him to be usable in or out of a cavern. I gave him a badger fur pattern. I wanted him to appear to live in a colder climate so his loincloth is made from the pelt of a snow leopard. I tried my hand at "rusting" his shield and axe. I ended up really liking him and if I didn't have so many minis in queue, I would have to make a tribe of bugbears! I love the bugbears anyway! I hope these 3 cause a lot of trouble for some adventurers!

I've barely made a dent in my Bones 2. This makes 20 out of the lot complete when I add the mummies and ghouls I finished earlier this year. At the very least I'll have painting projects for the next year or three! I worked on this batch over the course of 4 Pathfinder sessions. :) It's fun to paint while roleplaying!

Hi all, I decided to progress a bit with my pile of Bones II. As per my habit, I went with a theme -Death from Under- and painted up a couple of burrowing minis. The Burrowing Horror and the Ankheg... I shamelessly "inspired" the colour scheme of the Burrowing horror from another pretty one I saw painted on this forum. (Unfortunately I Forgot who... But he/she did a much better job than me) For the Ankheg, I didn't really know which colour to go for, so I went with all the colours on my paint tray at the time... (Thankfully I had lots of browns on it...) But who knew Ankhegs could wear fuschia??? The backs

Another burrowing beastie, this time an Ankheg (Reaper Bones 77230, not in the online store yet). It's a bit of an uninspiring paint-job, though the mini itself is OK.

Trying to keep with the idea of themed topics, here's my latest finished beasts with too many darn legs, including that bane of Muscle-Wizards everywhere, the dread Roper. I had to dig out and resculpt a bit of the eye on that one, so I hope it came out alright.

Here's a couple of ankhegs I painted quickly for a D&D game this weekend. I spent maybe an hour and half in total to get both painted for the game, not counting cleaning and priming. The light brown/khaki came out more pink and washed out in these photos, but you get the idea. I picked green because of the ankhegs in the Baldur's Gate game. I might paint the Bones version I'm getting with Bones Kickstarter 2 a different color. And here is my wife's character for the game. Hard to find an armor wearing female with mace that doesn't also have a shield. I don't know why they removed shields from clerics in D&D 4th edition and D&D Next: I interupted painting twenty-some LotR elven spearmen to get these two ready for the game. When I finish the elves, I might at least post the conversions I did for a couple of the heroes.
