  2. Please see the main post here for rules, questions and general chatter, while using this thread to keep a list of links to your show-offs or show-off related comments in a single post: A reminder to please adhere to miniatures posting guidelines as usual. http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/72577-resolutionary-painting-challenge-2017-chatterquestions/ All the information you need should be here. Due to the revised format, there will be more than one bonus challenge available for this month. Including a "Hard mode" which Is some combination that may or may not have a source behind it. March and April 2017 Your challenge is: 9! Bonus Challenge: The First! Given that (at least in the Northern Hemisphere) spring starts in this time frame - Modify (if necesseary) and Paint a figure (doesn't matter what) in a jumping/springing pose Bonus Challenge: The Second! April 22nd is National Jelly bean day. Paint a mini in tribute to your favorite flavor jellybean (bonus* points if you choose tutti fruttti) *The game is made up and the points don't matter. Hard Mode Challenge! "Disrupted" Light source (from any direction but above.) Paint any mini you choose in any scheme you choose, but the lighting must come from the sides or below, as if it was filtering through some other opaque object to disrupt the lighting. Ex: The character is standing close to a chainlink fence, so it casts a 'shadow grid' on them, or perhaps through an old window with thick beams so the there's a large + shaped shadow being cast on them. Again please refer questions to the main thread. Not like there's ANY chance for something on April 1st...
  3. Please see the main post here for rules, questions and general chatter, while using this thread to keep a list of links to your show-offs or show-off related comments in a single post: A reminder to please adhere to miniatures posting guidelines as usual. http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/66365-resolutionary-painting-challenge-2016-chatterquestions/ All the information you need should be here. Your challenge is: 4 - IF you did a fools guild miniatures, the challenge becomes 3 for this month as stated in March Bonus Challenge: Backwards: In honor of how absurdly stupid and backwards the weather has been lately - paint a miniature using your offhand only. You can still use your main hand to hold it and such, but all application of paint to miniature must be done with your non-dominant hand. Extra Bonus Challenge: The first modern olympics since ancient times were held in Athens, Greece, 1896. Bonus Challenge 2 is: Make all figures for the month into a diorama honoring the competition, ceremony or competition (winter or summer olympiad, your call)
  4. I finished him! I think! So, the biggest mistake I made last year with my reapercon entries was never getting any critique before I turned them in. Now, this guy has a pretty optimistic base I'm not done with yet, but I think he is done himself. I want to know what you think. I want to hear the petty nit-picking things you think about him! I love this sculpt, and I want it to be something that Romain is proud to see done on his amazing sculpt. So, lay it on me! Let me hear what you think, and that way I can get better! Thanks for being the best guys! Ps, there are a ton more pictures of the wip and stuff on my blog if you're interested in that kind of thing. ETA Scale pictures!
  5. I have to say these survivors turned out great! C&C Welcome! I hope you enjoy them as much as I am! Sampson Silas Ann Baldric Nelly Clovis
  6. So, really late, these are actually for April's challenge. Nothing special, just some boxes and barrels. As a side note, these items are a nice quick paint job; pretty good for busting out of a painting rut, though.
  7. Soo...title says most of it, speedpaint at reapercon, 2 brushes, 12 colors, pallet the size of a business card, and, being my first speed paint, my brain going "AAAAAAAHHHHHH!" the whole time. All in all, not bad. Picture was taken at reapercon so...yeah not the prettiest.
  8. Ok so this guy was sitting around on my shelf of shame since before my 6ish year hiatus...so a majority of the painting was already there...the big thing was the skin/hair and base that I had to do...I like to think you can see the difference in the techniques used to reflect the time frames. I plan to get more pictures when My reapercon stuff arrives and I get my lightbox up again.
  9. Please see page 1 here for rules and guidelines/questions. This is also the chatter thread here: The first post as linked will contain the updated totals soon and the plan is to start getting the graphics sent to all who have completed the months so far. http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/58628-resolutionary-painting-challenge-chatterinfo-thread/ Also, please only create a single index post for your links. This means to modify your existing post when you get a new figure finished instead of posting a new one. This month's challenge is: 5. Yes I'm aware with reapercon there's less time to paint, but that's part of the challenge! Spring-like is encouraged but by no means part of the challenge. On a side note, if you decide to paint up the TMNT and April, that would be epic, but I'm not sure there's ninja turtles minis out there... We have 1 bonus challenge for this month. The deadline Is planned for May 5th Midnight, RST. (Reaper Standard Time)...because I'll be in Texas and won't be closing the thread yet. Allons-y!
  10. I'm including a show-off for Skadi as well. She was quite a challenge for me. I think I repainted her 5 times. But, I love the final incarnation of her, and I think that she turned out alright. You'll notice that her left leg has brown around the bottom where the boot and the leg meet, in real life you can see that that's a fur lining to her boots. It didn't translate to pictures well.. C&C welcome and appreciated. Hope y'all enjoy her!
  11. Alright y'all. I'm done. Except for a few touchups (I see now that I forgot to paint the piece between the orb and the gem on her staff...) Hope y'all like it! More pics on my blog.
  12. I am dying!!!! SO close to Reapercon! So much to do!!! These guys are done. Barring some minor touchups and attaching them to the diorama, that is. These are the minis for my Reapercon diorama, so C&C is welcomed and desired. I didn't realize I never took pictures to do a show-off on the first cleric, so you just get a shot of him attached to the diorama. I have a ton more pictures (and laments ;) on my blog.. go check it out!) Please let me know what y'all think! And I will see some of y'all in a week's time at the Meet & Greet and then at the rest of the festivities!!!!
  13. Here's my first 3 figures for the April edition of the Resolutionary painting challenge. Pictures even taken with natural lighting! (I'm not sure if that'll help or hurt...) First up, a ghostly spirit I was painting as an experiment on how to paint this type of figure. In my wip thread, it was suggested that I go over the edges in pure white; I've done that and I think it looks a little better than it did. Next is a 'living elemental'; I thought it kinda looked like it could be a stone/earth elemental part way through the summoning process, so that's how I painted it. Finally, there have been several Nothics converted and posted on the forums; here's the 'official' version from the D&D miniatures line. Well the figure anyway, the paint is all me for better or worse. Except the eye, I liked it the way it was, so I preserved it. Thank you for looking, all C&C are very welcome.
  14. So, we took a road trip to Dallas, and stopped at the Reaper store (duh). While we were there, my little man found the Sandy chibi mini! I was so excited! ( I have no idea if they normally hide them or whatever, but I imagined we found buried treasure and I was excited.) So, here she/he/it is!! She was a fun to kind of goof off and paint in the midst of the Reapercon oh-my-god-nothing-is-done-yet frenzy. :) C&C always welcome, enjoY!
  15. So, this is my entry for the "You're such a character" Challenge. I went for split lighting.. I haven't done much with lighting techniques, so this was interesting. Not the best thing I've ever painted, but I was going for a minimalist approach to his clothes/surroundings so I could focus on the lighting. Anyways, here he is! Please hit me with your C&C. I'm up for tips and tricks on this particular technique!
