Every Infernal Army needs its footsoldiers. Today I have Legion Devils, or Merregon as they are known in 5E. There's a lot of variation in lore with these guys between editions, so it really opened up the door for interpreting them how I wished. So here's a handful of Legion Devils. Not the most impressive of paintjobs, but they work for filling out a horde. I am interested in revisiting them with my more recent TMM painting technique, so maybe I'll add to their ranks soon. More Photos Below Spoiler: I really like reinterpreting the creatures that exist in D&D lore. I have all of the models, and more that I want, and it's nice finding ways to utilize the ones I didn't have a use for. I also love seeing a group of cohesive minis coming together. What else does my infernal army need?

As a beginner painter, the concept of doing an army (or even just an army unit) feels both logical and like way too much work. Nevertheless, here it is, my first army unit! Read more about the process (and see a few more photos) over at Pocket-Sized Adventurers. Comments and thoughts are of course welcome! /Cpt Tweet

This is one of my armies that I use for Dragon Rampant. I call it my Mordor Army though it is not necessary accurate for Lord of the Rings. My rank and file troops Games workshop Uruk hai serving as my orcs. I have a lot more but I don’t you all wanted see all of them! Next of is a pair of Reaper bones mountain trolls fulfilling the role of the heavy hitters. And last but by no means least is a Reaper minis Murkillor the Wraithking who serves as the Whitchking of Angmar. If I get any more troops for this army I’ll be sure to post them here, and hopefully I’ll get a chance to post pictures of my other armies here soon! Thankyou for looking! Comments, constructive criticism are welcome!

This will be the Gallian forces build-up thread for the Valkyria Chronicles scenario I am creating here: Let’s Make … Gallia to Arms! A 20mm Valkyria Chronicles Scenario I haven't started that totally ill-prepared - as I normally do - so here we start with the Gallian Forces. Unlike the Imperial Forces, the Gallian forces have never been designed to fulfill a greater combat role other than defend their homeland. As the Principality of Gallia is a rather small country, its vehicles and units rely on weaker armor for the sake of speed and agility. Still they can bring a suprisingly heavy amount of firepower to bear, which allows them to strike fast and retreat as soon as possible. Like vikings. Just a bit nicer. For the scenario setting, the Gallian Forces will consist of 1x Light Tank 6x Scouts 6x Shocktroopers 3x Lancers (Anti-Tank) 1x Mortarer (Anti-Personnel) 2x Engineers (Repair and Refill) 2x Snipers Well then - let's go The Gallian light tank: Gallian light tanks are rather old combat vehicles. Having been in service for almost 20 years, its armor can easily be penetrated by most of the available anti-tank weaponry in the game. Still - with its 75mm gun, a co-axial machine gun and a mortar, this tank is a vital support unit for its accompanying infantry. It also can combat light and medium Imperial tanks, but is severely outclassed by heavier imperial models. Starting with nothing much than the game design book and a few unbuilt tank kits, this work can be considered my first real "scratch" build, though not everything is completely scratch. Messy, but not dirty! Having checked the main parts I needed, I cannibalized the tank kits I had arround, using parts of a Panzer 38(t) and a Panzer III as main elements for the chassis and wheels. The front body was created using styrene plastic. To stabilize the whole construction, some poxy putty was used and put on the inner side of the vehicle. There are still some gaps to fill and mishaps to be corrected. But we are making progress! Time to contine with the turret. As one can see, the turret equals that of a Panzer III from WWII, but its main gun is rather positioned to the right side as it was on the Hetzer and the Panzer II. Well then - let's cut it into place. Let it dry for a moment and then continue next time

After ~6 months of not being able to work on projects, I present my first finished project of 2018- an ancient skeleton horde! The goals of the project were to: (1) Start out with a bang in my goal to paint 52 minis this year (2) Add a good deal more skeletons for horde encounters in an upcoming tabletop RPG I am running (3) Get more practice with OSL in a setting that allowed me to try multiple techniques on similar models quickly (eyes) (4) Try my hand at verdigris, again trying multiple techniques to see what I like best (5) Try out doing weapons/armor chipping and weathering. Happy to say all 5 goals were met (just took a long time)! This was a tabletop-level project, so while they aren't perfect, they are "good enough". Please let me know what you think- I relish C&C as it is a critical step in making me a better painter. I also have a question: I need to seal these guys. I want to use a matte sealer for the skeletons themselves (you can see the gloss from where I used quickshade), but I don't want to dull the metals on the arms and armor. What matte brush on sealers does everyone prefer? Thanks for looking!

Guyscanwefocusplease posted a topic in Works in Progress: Painting
Hi everyone! So looking back at 2017, I am absolutely ashamed to see that I had only completed 5 (five! Only five!) Miniatures this year. Granted, I didn't have access to my painting stuff until April, and had five major life events happen this year both good and bad. The minis I did complete I am very happy with, and I did really push myself to get better and learn some new techniques. I also started about 30 miniatures that have not been finished, so I did more painting than it seems. When looking at my paint desk it has become apparent that I have far, far too many unfinished projects- including a few from more than four years ago. Therefore I have 3 goals for 2018: 1) paint 52 miniatures within the calendar year. Any stand alone miniature counts. 2) of these 52, complete at least one CAV force to bring to reapercon 2018. 3) complete two unfinished miniatures before starting a new miniature. In that vein, I have started my resolution a little early: These are 20 skeletons from wargames factory I assembled and primed this summer, but never finished as I had airbrush problems. Tonight in about 2 hours I blocked them in woodstain brown and began dry brushing with terrah khaki- a nice bone color by the way! My intention is the shade and highlight them, then arm them. I want to use these guys as an excuse to try verdigris... I am very excited to see how it turns out. If i get these guys done I'll already be more than a third of the way to 52 miniatures. Wish me luck and expect more update soon!- 16 replies

Here's a group of 20mm Bunderwehr soldiers which I did for a skirmish game. They are from Revell of Germany and Elhiem miniatures. Special emphasis was laid on their Flecktarn camo as it is a very distinctive pattern and is absolutely horrible to paint in such a small scale. But I think it came out pretty decent. Enjoy!

Hey all! Just wondering who out there is a Veteran, What branch of service you are / were in, how long, etc, etc... This way we can find out who we all are, maybe have some fun telling war / sea stories! I was Army, 4 years Active as a 19K, Mi Abrahms crewman. OSUT at Ft Knox, KY. 2 Years in Gelnhaussen Germany, 2 Years at Ft Hood, TX. (Active 1984-1988) 16 Years CT National Guard. Artillery, Combat Engineer, 72Y Battalion Supply (S4). (Began 1988, Retired in 2003.) Was wondering if maybe we could get a sculptor at Reaper to do some sort of Vignette, with one rep of each branch in it, and ask Reaper to donate the profit to something like "Wounded Warrior" or another Vet charity. Maybe if enough of us ask nicely, they might think about it! Maybe they could do some sort of annual edition like / with Sophie as well? How many of you would like to see Sophie 'dressed' in your branch's uniform? I know I'd paint mine up! Might be something totally different to paint.... Chime in and let BS! 8) George EDIT: we are at 2 pages in a few hours! Glad to see the response! You folks ever notice that we speak our own language? Branch doesn't matter except for the tech terms either.... Who was sent out to get the attitude adjustment wrench? EDIT 2 All you non US Vets chime in too! Even though you aren't American, you are still one of US!

Most of these were painted in 2017, I believe, though I don't have track of it exactly. I organize my WIP pics in folders by date, but I gave up keeping 'count' so to speak as it interferes with actually painting and modeling! (If you want to see a particular unit you can probably just search this forum, I believe I've done individual Show Off threads for all these guys). Anyway so here's my current pride and joy :D all my boyz in their glory etc. Hope you enjoy!

This was done for a fun competition where you were supposed to recreate an album cover with miniatures. I chose the Army of Darkness Official Soundtrack. It uses the same art as the Movie. :) All I can post here is a WIP, pic. The rest, as well as the final result can be found in the links below, due to nudity.: WIP / photobox images: http://i.imgur.com/nnpwbFv.jpg http://i.imgur.com/9du3P58.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ntIrUGC.jpg Final result. There was no way to fit all nine minis, along with the scenery in my photobox, so the colours / paint suffered a bit in this one, but all in all I am happy with the result.: http://i.imgur.com/WPU1HEI.jpg

I am going to start a larger competition entry, and thought I'd make this WIP thread to help me keep a red line on the project. The task is to recreate a cover of a book or album. Nothing to post yet, except the cover which will be my inspiration for the entry. I have had it in my mind for a while, and this comp gave me an excuse to begin. Bits have been ordered, and work will commence once they arrive. :) Maybe a little sooner. ^^ As there are some things I can do right away.

So I'm trying to finally get my undead army built and hopefully primed. I've got in the realm of 200 miniatures to assemble, and it's my first time really dealing with multi-part minis since up until now 99.5% of my collection has been Bones. Some of them I've already assembled over the last week, some of them I partially assembled about a month or so ago, but most of them are still on their sprues. It's going to be a real experience for me. I'm already running into issues with storage for the assembled ones. The plastic doesn't seem to take well to being thrown in a box. Some of the minis have suffered damage that way. Anyone have any advice on how to store and transport them in a relately cheap manner? *sigh* My phone camera didn't auto-orient the pictures, so they're all upside down...

So I started working on painting my undead army for Kings of War. It's going to take me a LONG time to get everything done at the pace I'm going. This is figure #1 of at least 150, probably closer to 200. The first mini I decided to start with is one of my hero units, Lady Ilona. She's a Mantic sculpt, cast in their resin plastic or whatever they call their "non-resin," non-polystyrene, castable plastic. I got her primed the other day, and laid down some basic colors to sort of get the ball rolling last night. I realized after I'd started painting that I'd apparently not really prepped her and I missed a rather prominent mold line in her torso, her arm, and her feet. They're going to just stay there, because I've got a second copy of her that I can do up later if I feel like being neurotic over it. As it is, I'm aiming for "better than a prepaint" quality, and I think I'm at least meeting that even if I don't get all the seam lines. After all, I've got a ton of these things to do and I can't be spending too much time fussing over a single one. First was her skirt and cape. The cape is straight Khorne Red from GW, while the skirt is a 3:2 mix of Reaper Imperial Purple and Fresh Blood. Next up, I decided to try my hand at doing the eyes, followed by coloring in the skin a bit and blocking in her hair. As is usual for me, the eyes look like crap. She's got kind of a lazy eye/cross-eyed thing going on and one is obviously bigger than the other. Eye whites are Reaper Maggot White, irises are Ultramarine Highlight. Flesh tone is Vampiric Shadow, which doesn't really show up well beside the primer gray, while the hair is Walnut Brown. And, to finish up, I blocked in most of the rest. While I'm pretty sure her dress is supposed to be a one piece deal, I decided to do the upper half in a different color. In this case it's P3 Coal Black, which is more of a very dark turquoise color. The sword blade is just a coating of Brown Liner in preparation for metallic silver of some sort. The shoes and belt got a coating of Vallejo Leather Brown, while the buckle was done in Vallejo Silver. Her arms got themselves a coat of Reaper Rainy Gray in preparation for some metallic or another, probably a silver but possibly a gold or brass. Maybe I'll try my new Scorched Metal on it, since it's getting delivered today.

Hello again, I've got nothing fancy here unfortunately but my speedily painted Battlelore armies. I had presented the demon lord previously (here) of the same game and these 30 figures had been sitting on my shelf for far too long, effectively eliminating my will and motivation to paint by, well, "not being painted"... So, after much meditation and deliberation (and buying a new pair of Winsor & Newton Series 7's) I finally got round to finishing them. And here is to whole lot: They will thus join their comrades in battle: But alas, my quest is not over since 30 more infantry and bowmen of the Chaos forces await my attention.. I shall return to report their likewise ascension to heavens shortly. Thanks for looking and as always your invaluable C&C will be much appreciated.
