Blah, can't win lately. Please see the main post here for rules, questions and general chatter, while using this thread to keep a list of links to your show-offs or show-off related comments in a single post: A reminder to please adhere to miniatures posting guidelines as usual. http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/72577-resolutionary-painting-challenge-2017-chatterquestions/ All the information you need should be here. Due to the revised format, there will be more than one bonus challenge available for this month. Including a "Hard mode" which Is some combination that may or may not have a source behind it. Your challenge is: 9! Bonus Challenge: The First! Oh Rats - July 22nd Is attributed as Ratcatcher's Day due to the legend of the Pied Piper of Hamelin. There's too much folklore to get into here - so let's see a ROUS or two! Bonus Challenge: The Second! Richard Nixon made proclamation 4071 as National Clown week. The challenge is to make a character that's not sculpted as a clown, to have the garish appearance of one. (I would say the style of Killer Klowns from outer space works here too) Hard Mode Challenge! Let's combine two of our favorite things, difficult colors and transparent cloth! Paint a mini of your choice using either Red or Yellow transparent cloth. (or is the term Translucent? I don't remember, I'm not done with my first pot of coffee yet.) Good luck

Sir Forscale of House Procrastius, knight the fourth, shielding himself with a for scale, armed with a ruler for scale. I've never actually used greenstuff before (and yes I know he's on his base, the sealer wasn't completely dry at this point, so base-less pics after) From bottom of his foot to top of the ruler is actually the height of the sword tip (maybe off by a fraction of a mm)

These are a set of graveyard decor I purchased a couple decades ago; I pulled 'em out and had a go at speed painting the whole lot, it probably took about 10 hours all together. I was doing fairly well the first night, then I started to get all fiddly with them. You can still get these from Scotia Grendel; their website says that they are resin. These are not, they are some kind of plaster. I did NOT buy them from Scotia Grendel; my best guess is that these are some kind of knock-off. The finger prints you might see on some of the pieces are not mine; they are part of the cast. Anyway, they're not great, but they'll look fine on the table top. 'Come along, then,' the aged and stooped groundskeeper says. 'It won't do to have any of you get lost in here, especially with the night approaching.' 'Here we come across the resting place of Darius Vamdrin, the duke's third son, slain 9 winters ago by orc raiders' 'The next site we come to is the burial place of the husband and wife adventuring team of Borgrim Swiftsteel and Amri Eshalka. They were a part of the band that aided our fair city in throwing off the yoke of the dreaded overlord.' 'Stay together, now. We're getting to the older part of the cemetary.' 'This lonely stone marks the resting place of Crothian Silvereye, whose murder was the cause of the riots that eventually brought the dread overlord to power.' 'Finally, over here we have...oh dear. Ah...step this way, if you please.' 'What's that, dear child?' 'Of course that grave hasn't been dug out of, this must be the work of grave robbers'. The old man glances around, into the deepening gloom, 'Ah...how many were with the group when we started out?'

Some guys with Halberds. Five minutes to midnite. Clicking "Post Topic" now...but will get this tagged better on a later edit. (Below...) Black Legionaries with Red Tunics These were speed paints started about 5 hours to go before the August deadline. I keep doing that. But, I guess at least I am getting to explore some fast techniques. The halberd tips have some old Ral Partha bronze on them. The red is a mix of two Reaper reds: 29802 Brilliant Red + _____________. (I can't find the second red...stay tuned.) Then both got a light overwash with some darker colors. The base of the mini got slathered in a sort of Ruddy Brown that was a custom color from RCon 2014, I mixed in a few drops of Jade Green that didn't budge the color much. Then it got a light overwash with some darker colors. The rest of the mini got fake acid-washed with a mix of Black Ink: 9208, Blue Liner: 9066, and Brown Liner: 9064. At varying degrees of density. Those are the darker colors mentioned above.

New rthread for a new month. I'm still determined to clear my painting queue this year and doing these WIP and getting C&C from everyone really motivates me to keep pushing through. So on to the fun. I was stuck for a few days deciding what to start with so I grabbed a few bones from my collection to get my gears going. First up is Goldar. I had started this guy a while ago in metal but lost motivation after his axe snapped and I had a difficult time keeping it reattached. But I've always been fond of the figure and thought it had a lot of character. I did take some WIP pics but they were super blurry since I'm still taking photos with my iPhone, so here is where he stands now. The next figure is from bones 2 heroes and villains option i think, the female spartan. Started with the reds this time since I tend to have issues blending it the way I like consistently. I think I'll be painting the armor silver with some antique gold highlights and I'm not sure about the stone yet. Maybe an earth tone? As always C&C welcomed and appreciated.

For August the Format will be a question a day including weekends. Rules as they have evolved 1. Every day, or so (unless I am out or ill or something) I will post a question. 2. You each have a 24 hours span to answer that question before the next question is posted. 3. After I post the next question, you can answer one or two previous questions. 4. Only the Questioner may post questions, but you may (and are encouraged to) submit questions to be posted via a PM. 5. You do not have to answer every question, their is no penalty for skipping one. Either simply wait for the next question or post that you decline to answer (why would be nice). 6. Questions will run each day as I have plenty of material. ______________________________________________ 7. "New" for August: In the spirit of summer re-runs some questions will be labeled RVQ for ReVisited Question. These will sometimes a be new take on previous question topics. and not necessarily questions repeated verbatim. 8, On all RVQ questions there are three implied bonus questions: what did you answer previously, has that answer changed and can you find a link to the relevant post in the old and now locked question thread. 9. There will be some questions this month that use pictures. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions in the July thread. Question 1 is a follow-on from July 30 and also an RVQ.
