Viggoth the Remorseless, Red Box Games

I've been hitting a slump in my painting that's been keeping me from these forums for quite a while. I'm trying to regain my rythm and getting some pieces done. This is one of them: This is Viggoth the Remorseless, from Red Box Games. He's abit smaller than I would like to but still a great sculpt. Somehow I messed up the varnishing and I just can't for the life of me get some of the glossy spots matt, no matter how much I spray them will dull coat (I've only sprayed him once or twice, I don't want to ruin the whole figure).
  2. Classic bucket head warrior. This guy was fun to paint.
  3. I painted this fierce looking dwarf over the last couple of afternoons. I didn't do anything with the base as I like my pre-slotta vintage minis to remain "au natural". He is an oldie from the mists of time by Citadel Miniatures under their "Chronicle Miniatures" range. Thanks for looking!
  4. This is 77299 Female Antipaladin that I received from fanguad for the Spring Exchange. My "instructions" for my partner were to paint something that would fit either "Something wicked this way comes" or "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good." Fanguad did great on both counts. She is definitely up to no good with her giant axe. He threw in a couple other sinister figures that are most certainly wicked! (89010: Damiel, Iconic Alchemist & 77123: Zalash, Dark Elf Assassin) She is beautifully highlighted and shaded and I am going to look at her when I next paint skin as hers is gorgeous! I love her face! We also happen to have the same color hair! Ha! Thank you, fanguad! I love her so much! My pictures do not do her justice. Fanguad, if you took better pictures, please add them on here!

    Ral Partha Dwarves with axes

Hi again, still working on more Ral Partha dwarves, and here are my last two additions, two dwarves with axes, but one kind of a barbarian feel, decked out in furs and a bit of scale mail, and the other one more of a rank and file dwarf, kind of skinny and in a coat of chainmail. I'm enjoying painting these dwarves actually, as it keeps torturing me with different armors and keeps me working on the NMM. The barbarian dwarf was kind of interesting in that I could get the white of his eyes on the left eye in, but couldn't reach it for a pupil, as he's got these big, shaggy eyebrows. Made it a bit challenging, but I don't think it's very noticeable, especially at these angles and the other eye was very easy to do and reach.

    The Blood Secrator

Presenting the Blood Secrator from Games Workshops Age of Sigmar box set. I'm not sure what a Blood Secrator does, but it involves wearing a vest made of skulls and hitting people with a nifty-looking (but undoubtedly highly impractical) quadruple headed axe. Had this guy on 'The Shelf of Shame' for awhile, it's a very nice mini (very 3 dimensional if that makes any sense) but when you have shaky hands the prospect of painting all the bits tucked behind all the other bits is pretty nerve-wrecking! Despite that I think he ended up looking pretty good. As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.

    Secret Sophie for Fealron

These are the minis I painted for Fealron for Secret Sophie. He said he was wanting some monsters that would live in a cavern or ice cavern. So, I imagined Ankheg (77230) as the mother and the channel grub (77226) as the larva. I painted the channel grub in blues and purples with yucky pink suckers. I used a little water effect on the slime trail it was sitting on. (Like a giant yucky slug!) I just painted the base for gaming like it was shiny ice. I used a gloss varnish because I wanted the grub to look slimy and icky! I wanted to use the same color scheme for the mother but I wanted her to look like she had a hard shell. I wanted it to look slightly iridescent like a big bug. I used shades of purple and blue and mixed in some bronze metallic. It doesn't show well in the pictures. I painted her base to match the grub's. The last guy is Kegg, Bugbear Hunter (77233). I wanted him to be usable in or out of a cavern. I gave him a badger fur pattern. I wanted him to appear to live in a colder climate so his loincloth is made from the pelt of a snow leopard. I tried my hand at "rusting" his shield and axe. I ended up really liking him and if I didn't have so many minis in queue, I would have to make a tribe of bugbears! I love the bugbears anyway! I hope these 3 cause a lot of trouble for some adventurers!

    77065: Norgol, Irongrave Knight

I painted this guy quickly in about 3 hours tonight. He's apparently going to be a super intimidating D&D character with a heart of gold. Second pic's a bit blurry - sorry!

I call this guy Meat because that's the only word he knows how to say.

    03700 Tyrea Bronzelocks NSFW

She's a pretty awesome mini. I'm a big fan of the standing at rest figures. Or standing proud weapon not raised minis. You know what I mean? https://www.instagram.com/p/BA9-5xzKrP7/

He must have found that sword. Resourceful!

    Gutrot Spume

Presenting Gutrot Spume, a Chaos Champion slowly mutating into some sort of tentacled thing. He's also my first finished mini of the year, and his WIP can be found here. Just had a massive amount of fun painting him up, and I think I did a fairly good job too. Any comments and criticisms are, as always, warming received.

    77065, Norgol, Irongrave Knight

Hey, look! I actually painted something by Reaper! I filled in the holes on his axe with some green stuff; I thought it looked kinda silly in it's original state. Tabletop paint, as usual for me. I'm still trying to work on my reds. I hope you like him.
  14. As part of Inarah's old of the year paint binge, I finished off this guy. He's a dwarf warrior made by Grenadier for their old Fantasy Warriors mass combat game. It was intended to be competition for GW's WHFB, but it never quite took off. It's still available (along with a lot of other cool old Grenadier sculpts) from Mirliton miniatures. Table top paint. Let me know what you think.

    Gourls Paints Goldar 77047

Hey all! It's been a bit since I've been able to paint up anything. I started back to school and between that, the requisite homework accompanying it, and working (as well as trying to make time to see people and sleep somewhere in there) my painting has fallen by the wayside. I've had a little more freetime that I didn't spend doing other things here lately though, and one of the beneficiaries of that was Goldar here. I (like I'm sure others) envisioned him as a D&D goliath. I considered trying to freehand some tattoos on him, but I was too scared to try it and just left him as-is. Maybe one day I'll make an attempt. Sorry for the less-than-stellar photos here. Did them with my phone under a kitchen light (not the light I paint by -- but close).

    77299: Female Antipaladin

My local game shop had this hanging on the wall and I really liked the base. Putting it together was a bit rough. It came in four pieces: axe arm, body, base, and shield arm (which included a good chunk of her torso). The shield arm didn't fit into her body correctly, so I had to fill a pretty good-size gap with green stuff. Her right breast also had a bit of a crater in it that I didn't notice until the base coat was on, so I had to use a little more green stuff there. Still, a fun project for a $3 model!
  17. Hi folks! It's been a while since I last posted (or painted for that matter). But last weekend, I finished my modified version of Azarphan. Pictures from this miniature aren't found often here or in other boards. I think this is because only few people like his strange helmet (see here). I'm using the mini for a PC playing a cleric of Tempus (god of war) in my D&D 5E game, and wanted him to imiate the colors of his good (as seen here). I swapped the head for one from the Spartan Heads from Scibor Miniatures, in case you wonder. C&C welcome :)

    Big Minotaur

So there's this minotaur, y'see. He's about 50mm tall from toe to brow, 93mm overall without the base. I'm not sure of the figure's origins, but I suspect it's a Games Workshop piece from the chaos arrows on the belt. It came without a base, and the feet were angled out-of-line with eachother, so I constructed one of some thin craft plywood squares and glued sand on top of that. I've been trying to color it as a black Angus bull, but it's really hard to express contour shading on a deep glossy black. Any recommendations?
  19. My version of Dain Deepaxe. I painted this as a replacement for my brother's DnD5 character. He had his own old version of Dain but since he (and the mini) moved he won't be able to show up on this years whole weekend game session. So I finished my own version so we can place it in the middle of all the baddies and send him pictures his adventures. Despite that I found the miniature quite hard to paint I'm overall quite happy with the result. I really like how the beard turned out and the finish of the backpack.

    Lord Ulthrak, Hasslefree Miniatures

Lord Ulthrak from Hasslefree Miniatures. Suprisingly easy to paint with quite nice results.

    Dwarf Berserker Lord / Slayer

Back with my second mini! This guy is the dwarf berserker lord / slayer from the Avatars of War line. It was only after I'd primed him that I realized what poor quality the casting seemed compared to my previous mini, I filled in where I could with GS, but unfortunately nearly half of his face was missing... But rather than try and sculpt him a new left eye and cheek, I took the lazy way out and made it a feature. I tried a lot of new things on this mini, blood, snow, aged bronze/brass, and was my first time painting so much skin and hair. I'm not totally happy with how he came out, overall he seems too brown, and the wash I applied to his skin made the recesses between the muscles a bit too blocky, but maybe I'm just picking faults after spending too many of my evenings for the past week with him. Good enough for the table at least. Funnily my favorite part of the whole model now he's done is how the ork's head he's standing on came out. As always advice is welcomed, as I'm still new at this.
  22. Another victory against my unpainted pile, this is Belegast the Bloodthirsty (the new version). I'd like to thank uber_n3rd, Jasonator and Guindyloo for the feedback I recieved in the wip thread.

Rollo the Fellhanded, Red Box Games

This is Rollo the Fellhanded from Red Box Games. I notice now that the pictures contain quite alot of white dots, that's because I did a poor job with the spray on matt varnish. It usually looks much better but on this figure I failed to get a even spray :/ Also the face got abit to much so I had to sort of fix it. It wasn't a master piece before but I do think it looked abit better. But varnishing mistakes aside I'm fairly happy with how he turned out.

Red Box Games Helsvakt Axe Warrior

I finished another from my WIP shelf - a barbarian from Red Box Games, using the RMS Fair Skin Triad and the flesh wash. I don't really use the wash as a wash, more of a glaze over the basecoat of Fair Skin Shadow, then I blend in another layer of Fair Skin shadow before layering up from there. Hope my fellow fans of Tre's work enjoy it! Also, stuck with the yellow background for now but I hope its less distracting on this miniature since it's tones are different.

    A Bloodreaver

AKA a Chaos Marauder, (everything needs a new name apparently):- Was figuring out the colour scheme for the Chaos half of my Age of Sigmar set, ended up so pleased with the final result I thought he deserved showing-off! (IMO I think I did a really good job on his muscles) Will have to paint more bare-chested dudes in future. Any comments and criticisms are, as always, most appreciated.
