Weekly Bones 3 road to improvment

Hi, I have decided to attempt to improve my painting ability by painting my way through h the reaper 3 core set. I will attempt to update weekly and am welcome to tips and critiques as the goal is to improve what I can do as I go. this first batch includes 2 variations of lizard folk 77426 77154, a yeti 77436, a Giant Cobra 77321, and an elite Hobgoblin 77477. My first specific request for help is the use of unusual colors. I feel that I too often use mainly greys and browns, the lizard folk are a good example of one being a little more bland but realistic but the other allows for using colors I wouldn't be able to justify otherwise. I really struggle picking out colors for capes and armors as these end up looking either out of place or way to bland and boring. do you have any ways of choosing when to reach out with bright colors and when to be more reserved? I hope to use responses here to mold future paint jobs for next week. Thanks Guys CC welcome

  22. Greetings! I thought I'd start a WIP as an ongoing personal incentive to get the larger monsters in my Bones 3 collection painted up & finished - it's mostly all Dragons but I also have some of the other larger monsters that I may throw into the mix here & there. I'm kicking off with Diabolus & Stormwing & I'm using their names as the general inspiration for the colour schemes I'll be using. First off I glued the minis up & filled in any major gaps with green stuff: When dry, I painted the green stuff areas with primer followed by a coat of light grey to try & match the surrounding bonesium colour.
  23. Howdy, Deadlands Noir... More Noir por favor, Kev!

    77637: Obsidian Crypt

I finished up the Obsidian Crypt from Bones 3's Graveyard expansion. Used a fair amount of spray paint on this one, as I found that it didn't interact as badly with the harder Bonesium than it does with the regular stuff. I also used a bit of blue painter's tape to keep various areas protected, and wound up making use of a marbling spray to get the effect I wanted, and I'm pretty happy with it. It worked best on the floor rather than the walls, but I'm satisfied with it overall. I haven't glued any of the walls together, because it makes it easier to use as terrain or display. I also mounted some magnets in the floor, and glued some nails into the open areas in the walls so that the whole thing stays together better. It was my first real attempt at using magnets in miniatures, and I'm pretty excited about it.
