  1. Another quick tabletop paint job completed over the weekend. I think this guy is from KSIV, @TGP told me he is a dwarven hero. I used some basic techniques: basecoat, drybrush, and various washes.
  2. Finished the Gibbet for the Hut and Baba Yaga...Thanks for looking.
  3. Fairly quick mini... Needed something fun to give myself a bit of a mental break over the weekend. Probably 3 hours total - yes, I'm slow!
  4. Hello all, I'm stuck at home the next couple of months like the rest of the world and thought I'd finally try again after my only failed attempt at painting minis thirty-five years ago. I got one of the Reaper Core Essentials kits and did my first one today. Honestly I just can't believe it came out at all. When I was a kid I didn't have anyone to give me advice like the awesome Reaper booklet did (washes, base coating, etc.) and I seriously have to say thanks for putting out such a well designed tutorial. I just bought the Layer kit and I look forward to learning from all the expert artists here.
  5. My take on Baba Yaga's Hut. Or as my daughter calls it, the bird house. I had her pick out the color scheme.... just so happens it seems to be a common/popular one. Thanks for looking.
  6. Last new show off from me for a while. I finished him a while back. His WIP is here. https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/87019-darcstaar-vs-bones-1-ep-4-kieran-tallowmire-wizard/&tab=comments#comment-1844494 I initially wanted to paint orange. That got me thinking of a sunset color scale. It came out OK, but the process was harder than I thought it would be. Also, I’m trying to go through old Bones faster, but this was taking too long! A shot of his Fireball scroll. I went with burnt out candles to avoid needing to worry about OSL. I tried to pattern the feather as an owl feather. Hope you like it! C&C welcome.
  7. I decided to paint the entire bunch of snake cultist minis from Bones 4 as the most deadly snakes of the world. The paint jobs were fine for tabletop play, but I felt like I could have done a better job. Thus, I added more paint and touched them up. I'm much happier with how these turned out. I'm still in the process of painting the other snakes, but here are the two archers, one a black mamba and the other a boomslang. I LOVE THESE MODELS. Painting the scales was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, there are still mold lines in these minis, mainly because I don't feel like my hands are quite strong enough yet to accurately remove them, given how they run across the scales. I think I'll tackle the sorcerer casters next. One is a coral snake, the other is a banded sea krait. Painted with Reaper paints, though I also used a .005 micron to help with the lining and shadows. - TPS Minis
  8. Decided to boost my painted minis numbers in January by speed painting some translucent fire spell effects. Bones 77080 and 77081
  9. I was inspired by limey72 work doing NMM Gold on the enlarged Dwarf over in Works in Progress. I wanted to do a brass like robot or construct, so I pulled out this Golem. I also wanted to try some AK weather effect acrylic pencils I have had for a time. I think it ended with too much brown and ended up wood looking. But it has grown on me, so I will finish up his base and call it done. Hope you like it.
  10. My exchange partner this time around was @Corporea. She was one of those troublesome ones that are fine with anything. This of course means that I am free to do anything, so what I did was use her as an excuse to test out airbrushing my Vallejo Air Metallics. Because of that this mini is a little more metallic than I might have otherwise done. The aluminum didn't want to airbrush, or hand brush for that matter, so I may have a bad bottle. Other than that they all worked as expected. I.e. you can create a TMM effect by combining these paints with a regular paint for the shadows. I also tried my hand at a mosaic tile base. The area I started with isn't as good as the rest of the base, but seeing as I am already late I didn't go back and take even more time to repaint that area. Overall I thought it turned out pretty well, though I don't believe I'll be doing it on cork again. While I thought the imperfections in the surface could work as missing tiles, in practice they just ended up being in inconvenient places. But unfortunately I had to stick a mini on it. Full frontal metal shiny. And rotating around for those that want to look. I also attempted to create the look of texture by applying leather colors in a series of parallel lines. I kind of liked it but at the same time I'm not sure that it comes across as any particular type of texture. And that's it for my 2019 exchange. Next year I might even try to be on time.
  11. PAINTED THIS DRAGON FOR MY DM WANTED TO BREAK IT THOSE DANG WINGS JUST KICK MY BUTT . BUT THINK IT CAME OUT PRETTY GOOD
  12. I’m working on trying to get this big guy painted to tabletop standard by the time I have to use him at our next Pathfinder D&D session to represent the Roc King on Tilagos Island in the Demiplane of Last Resort, in the Age of Worms adventure path.
  13. Painted up these 8 unrelated barbarians as a clan for my Wrath of the Righteous campaign. Tried my hand at non-metallic metal again. This is the result. :)
  14. This is one I've had "in progress" for ages. I finally mustered the courage to tackle all the eyes and then had fun with drool!
  15. Just thought i would put these up to show off the new party making their way through saltmarsh. A party of six graduates from the civilized lands, roped into fulfilling a debt by their mentors. At least they are working together... they arent my finest work but for 6 hours of painting, they will do nicely for our little gaming group and the group enjoyed the surprise of coming to their second session to discover they all had custom painted minis! we have a Halfling fighter an elven thief with a fixation for daggers a halfling bard the blue dragonborn priest of Protos the black Dragonborn warlock (had to create the head. I couldnt find a dragonborn mini with an 8 strength...) and a Human ranger from the backstreets and slums hope you enjoy them, i dont know how long they will last....
  16. Here is my Callie. I painted her as a second WIP for my BONES 1 attempts. I really like the sculpt. I painted her as a half-orc or orc. She has some freckles, nice green gems, and some ivy freehand on the cloak. Here is a link to the WIP. https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/86283-darcstaar-vs-bones-1-ep-2-callie/ Enjoy. C&C Welcome.
  17. Another villager from me. :) This is a 03856 Townsfolk: Courtesan Got this one done at a painting day in about 3 hours of work, but interrupted by cups of tea. :)
  18. This is the wolf from the bones animal companions set (77216). Googled a bunch of wolf photos and then the wolfie painted up really quick. Might put some plants on the base later.
  19. A nasty-looking fellow that looks entirely interested in carving off bits of your anatomy. I'm reasonably happy with his face and I think the color scheme works fairly well. Pretty much intended as a tabletop figure, he was quite a bit of fun to paint.
  20. Finished this figure a couple of weeks ago, but never posted pics; While he's titled "rogue", I thought he came across better as a fighter, so I painted the armor metallic. Just tabletop standard, not intended for any sort of competition. Definitely needs more lining, especially on the belt.
  21. I really like the way this turned out
  22. I believe these were in the pack called "Sophie and friends", but I am not sure if they have specific names or product numbers. I am still very bad at painting eyes, and at the end I just let the wash go all in and leave them as is. Pretty happy with the rest of the painted result however. Cassiata is much easier to get the eye to show through though. Maybe because she was molded with a slight stiffer material and therefore more crisp molded detail? I ended with a kind of blood kniight colour scheme because I do not have reference to her intended design.
  23. WIP of the Cave Bear from Bones IV's Prehistoric Expansion. I did not get this expansion so I recently picked up the Stone Giants and the Cave Bear from a gift certificate to Reaper Miniatures. When I saw this I had ear-marked this to do the base in a similar method to Frulla Krung's base. To achieve that I added the bark next to the integrated base as well as a pumice piece and then using baking soda and super glue I added the snow and ice. For Frulla's base I used the BSI Thin Insta-Cure super glue and baking soda. That made the ice easier to form over the rocks. I will prolly add that after painting as well. The base is built from cork with a plastic card (fake credit card sent in the mail) in between the top and bottom. It provides a nice rigidity to the cork. This Cave Bear will get a paint job of grays with a tan crescent under his chin and a tan snout. I've downloaded a ton of pictures of different bears to see where the colors shift along the bear to get a better color along the bear's length and over its head. Enjoy and Stay tuned.
  24. Here is a recent Bones milk maid miniature, 03857. I worked on my glazing skills on this one. Being pretty new to glazing I like how the dress worked out. :) Quite pleased.
  25. I painted up another ogre matriarch. she is so fun! This is Daisy, aka the Blonde Bombshell!
