  1. A lovely sculpt from Bombshell, Mi-Sher is billed as a Mongolian princess. I had a lot of fun with her dress. This post seems as good as any for a pair of Chinese Pirates I got years ago from Eureka. They both have a pudao or glaive. They were among my first forays into freehand back in the day--the one with the hat has a silver loong dragon on his back, and the hatless one, a crane.
  2. From the depths of SPACE, they came! A menace unlike any the Solar System had yet seen! Their weapons--inexorable! Their strange mental powers--UNCANNY! Bombshell's Counterblast line has a faction called the Edofleini. Can't prove anything, but I feel strongly that the designer had read David Wiesner's "June 29, 1999" at a formative age. The Edo are giant-brained cephalopods with zap guns and psionic powers, and if that doesn't tickle your fancy, perhaps a Space Squid has used an Emotive Transductor to suck all the JOY and WONDER from your heart? (They can do that, you know!) I couldn'
  3. A curvier, svelter version of the Creature from the Black Lagoon, Bombshell's Gillie is a natural stand-in for a gender-flipped Abe Sapien. A good partner for the Heckfella I painted a while ago. She's been mostly done for a few weeks; just took the photos today. Flash photography: No flash: Now I just have to figure out how to kitbash a Johann Kraus...maybe Reaper's Deep Sea Diver plus half a pill capsule with a wisp of cotton wool inside?
  4. Wish I'd taken more in-progress pics here, but when the muse strikes... Anyway, I got my hands on some figures from Bombshell's Counterblast, specifically the Edofleini faction. Could be described as BRAIN SQUIDS FROM SPAAAAAAACE!! (I assume you read that with the reverb turned up.) Decided to use the color scheme from this lovely shot of a coconut octopus: These were the paints used for the bodies; AP Toxic Mist plus some turquoisish Reaper sample paint was used for the suckers, and AP Greedy Gold for the jewelry and weaponry. Also used AP Kraken Skin for the leader's mini-cape. S
  5. There was a sale, so I got a sweet robot lady from Bombshell! I painted her gold and silver, "Metropolis"-style. Then I remembered I had some shiny gold chainmail rings, and parlayed those into haloes. BUT IT WASN'T ENOUGH. I used to live in a house whose former occupant was a watchmaker, and he left behind a bunch of stuff neither his heirs (if any) or the landlord cared for, so I am rich in watch parts. While I was digging through the collection for suitable embellishments for Wyrmgear, I came across a bunch of watch hands, and those would be perfect for mechanical feathers. (Side n
  6. And I *THINK* this should be the last of the SPACEFUTURE posts for a while (at least until I get the insect faction done). Reaper's Frank Russo, Mercenary Hero (50044) is a great sculpt, with a Superman jaw and muscles and a well-stocked utility belt. I think he was meant to be a gritty, grimdark superhero/villain/antihero after the line of Punisher or Crossbones or Reaper (dude comes with an extra head with a skull mask). He's a good Special Operative, but I wanted to put some color on there, dammit! The result is more "The Incredibles" or Spaceman Spiff than "secret agent." (Here's
  7. Just a quick speed paint to boost my painted numbers. These where painted back in March. The are all pumped up to pound some adventures. I do find it funny the similar stance for being created by 3 different manufacturers. Castle Creations BP-15 Earth Elemental: Bomshell Miniatures 60028 Roknak, Earth Elemental: Frostgrave FGV306 Stone Construct:
  8. Jetpacks! The dieselpunk / pulp accessory every high-flying hero needs! The beautifully retro twin-turbine jetpacks from Bombshell are gorgeous and also come in a pack of five for less than the cost of one of their regular Babes or Counterblast crew. That's the sort of savings I can get behind! And now those same savings are getting behind my aeronautically-inclined pulp miniatures, where the posture permits. First up is 50107, Afterburn. I made him a pulp-era Iron Man type, but of course repulsor technology was not as developed back in the '30s as it was in the 21st century. Solution: J
  9. Hey, all! This year, I'm taking part in as many parts of ReaperCon's MSPOpen that I can while still narrowly holding on to my sanity. The first of these is a small diorama, (my first ever,) for Bombshell Miniatures. Since this is my first, I've decided to go with a relatively simple story: While venturing along an escarpment, a heavy-armored priestess is waylaid by a spinning, blade wielding half-orc. I began by cutting some foam to build up the earth behind the cliff face, and then used some plaster molds to cast the face and the large rock buried in the ground. Next, I covered ev
  10. Couldn't resist a Bombshell sale, and I've had my eye on Gillie here for a while. Now, I'd already gotten into a Hellboy figure (http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/85925-heckfella-wwwoz-lion-80058-and-rafm-hells-harbinger-raf03897/), so the next part was probably inevitable. This fishy gal is going to be a distaff counterpart to Abe Sapien. (Langdon Everett Colleen?) Recent posts by @Glitterwolf (loongs and ki-rin) are changing my mind on techniques, so while it is well-established that I love shiny metallic fish-people, I put on some matte layers first. And then drybrus
  11. So, a very long time ago, somewhere around the turn of the millennia, when I started buying minis (not counting that dragon I bought in the early 90s...which I should get around to painting one of these days....) I came across a miniature that would change the course of history! Well, my history anyway, because if I hadn't seen it I likely wouldn't be posting about all these other minis I bought because if it, not to mention all the butterfly bunny effects that that one change would have made to the timeline....but I digress. One that faithful day I spotted the legendary (and apparently back
  12. Attached are photos of a slew of different miniatures and projects I've been working on in 2019. The Battleguard Golem is clearly a Warforged Paladin in my mind as was painted accordingly; he's mounted onto a Frontline Games base. The Jungle Titan is on the base of a Reaper Dragon I gave my son as a toy previously. The Galladoria Games entrances are both attached to Frontline Games Stones Dungeon tiles. The Terratiles are from a Kickstarter that started fulfilling last month; they were a ReaperCon vendor in 2017 and make good stuff! On the CAV Thunderbird
  13. More denizens of the post-nuclear hellscape, though they could also work well as SPACEFUTURE COMMUNISTS OF MARS ("Keep the Red Planet Red!"). Wasteland Maelee and Ivan the Mutant occupy opposite ends of the Nuclear Glow-Up spectrum. First, Ivan. Painted him ages ago, mostly in washes. This is another of that 3-pack of mutants from Pinnacle's "Hell on Earth" line. He has a bad case of Gnarly Arm, and those veins look like they might be infected. On the other (giant, mutated) hand, everyone likes a guy who can bicep-curl a tractor. Bombshell's own Wasteland Maelee, by contrast, is lookin
  14. Truly delightful sculpts by Bombshell that work well for a Weird West of gun-toting saloon gals and persnickety varmints. The sculpt listed as "Warfare Wombat" is clearly procyonid and in no way meant to represent a marsupial. Thus does copyright law make fools of us all (well, all except copyright lawyers, I suppose). While he might have been intended for a spacefuture setting, that uniform with the two rows of buttons looked like it could be retconned for a strange American Civil War. So I slapped together a half-assed kepi from greenstuff and painted him in Union blue. I didn't want to
  15. Robots of standard tabletop size: Reaper's ALF-24 (50138) and Marie, She-Bot (50246). These models are manufactured to work as humanoid assistants for general-purpose work, especially work that requires human interaction that humans don't particularly want to do. And here are a pair of smaller models: Bombshell's HLP-R and MIN-E bots. These two were created for small-quarters general purpose operations, and also for interactions with children. (Children will trust little buddies more than they will grown-up Authority Figures, was the idea.) Side note: I love that the HLP-R bot has the sam
  16. After making the base for Culk the rake, I made a bunch of others and painted some minis to put on them. This pirate from Patrick Kieth's second Bombshell Kickstarter looked like she would work well with it. Couldn't really tell where her eye was, from some angles it looked like one was sculpted and others like her hair was supposed to cover it all. It actually doesn't look too bad zoomed in right now. Not quite as good from this angle. Got to use some of my Breast Cancer Awareness pink for this mini, which is always a treat. This is also my first attempt at da
  17. Victoriana from Bombshell Miniatures, sculpted by Patrick Keith. This is the figure I entered into the Miniature Monthly Masters painting competition. I really like this sculpt, and in fact I bought two more of her to paint just last week! Some of her WIP photos are here: WIP
  18. Here's another fearless deep-sea explorer, Bombshell's Vivian Gale! I probably could have given her better eyes, but it'll do for now. Blue reindeer moss is great for undersea coral.
  19. Here's a quartet of medical staff I started last winter and finished just before Reapercon. The psychologist is metal, I got him off the melt table last year. He came with the "carpet" base The female in the pink lab coat is from Bombshell. I fear she does not approve of the crazy lab tech's methodology.
  20. This young lady has Strong Opinions and is prepared to express them in incisive and cutting fashion! Her patience for foolishness is...minimal. Got the eyes right purely by happy accident.
  21. This is a Dragyri Warrior ( I believe) from Dark Age, he was sent to me by @malefactus a while ago to contribute to my Lost World Project. WIP: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69308-lost-world-project-glitterwolf-paints-coldblooded-creatures-and-conquistadores/&page=117 In my Lost World he is Drakh a mutant turtle warrior. He has a pet Meso, a Raptor Hatchling from Bombshell Miniatures. Base is made with a Greenstuffworld Roller Pin and some tuft/flock. Here they are, the last pictures are with my Jungle Photobackdrop Board to show
  22. This is one of my planned dioramas for ReaperCon. It is going to be a post apocalyptic 'bot shop featuring Bombshell Miniatures's Maelee and an assortment of robots. Right now the structure is built and partially painted with some weathering started. Still need to put a sign together but other than that, all construction is completed. What color do you suggest for the bricks/stone? The walls are a faint blue which is hard to see in the photos and will have rust effects like the roof. These are most of the 'bots as well as the workbench. The Maelee I am using is
  23. I've had a chunk of antler sitting in my drawer of basing materials for years, waiting for the right figure to use it on. I recently acquired the Bombshell Miniature Morihalda bust, and inspiration stuck! The antler was cut at a weird angle but I was able to use a hacksaw and a miter box to square off the top. I have the dilemma of trying to figure out a) the right orientation of the bust to the base, and b) if I want to fare in the bust pedestal to the antler using green stuff. I plan on putting a couple of pins in her base, and then matching sockets in the antler. I figure I can blank o
  24. Finally getting around to posting my ReaperCon 2017 entries. This is the one that was selected for judging, and was awarded a silver (low silver). Received great, actionable feedback from @Kuro Cleanbrush. Comments and Critiques welcome.
  25. Yes I decided I need to begin my work so I can hopefully finish up an entry for Bombshell Miniatures, I decided to go with Qadire of the Sands. I gave her skin a base coat and painted up her eyes. Well I thought I had, until I looked at her eyes blown up. I think I need to reexamine her left eye.
