  6. For a while I had been pondering what figure to use for the White Gorilla creature from the Frostgrave rules. Then one day, while looking for something else, I spotted the Ape Demon figure from the Bones II Lesser Demons set, and I thought, "Why not?" Maybe the White Gorillas of Frostgrave are the descendants of some bizarre experiment of a misguided wizard long ago who thought it would be a good idea to cross a bat with a gorilla. (Maybe so he could quickly run errands for him through the crowded city. That's why he has the one big ear; (so he can hear his master call him home), and the big hands so he can carry all the grocery shopping!) Over the centuries the wings have become flightless, but they still make the creature look fearsome. :) I really like how he turned out. And I think he fills the role of descendant of bizarre wizard's experiment just as well as he did as his intended use as a demon! :) Step by step painting article on my blog: http://allbonesabout.blogspot.com/2016/09/ape-demon-bones-ii-figure.html

Mashaaf, Great Old One (Bones) (77375)

A few months ago I began working on the Mashaaf, Great Old One, add-on figure from Bones II, and had gotten as far as washing it, assembling it, and spraying it with a base coat. It had then sat gathering dust, waiting for me to find inspiration to complete it. Then, with the successful competition of my Kalladrax figure a couple weeks ago, I felt emboldened to bite the bullet and finish this figure up as well. When purchasing this figure I had some vague idea of using it for my Pulp mash-up Space1889/John Carter of Mars games, so I pictured in some sort of tan, brown, reddish type of color scheme. However, I didn't want to limit it to just Mars, so I wanted to tone the base colors down so they might just as well blend in with any desert setting. I'm happy with how it turned out, and look forward to getting it into a game. :) Full step-by-step painting article on my blog: Painting Mashaaf
  8. This week I finished up the Derro Mage from the Bones 2, Expansion 1, Derro Set. I plan to use him as a Soothsayer type wizard for Frostgrave. I'm really pleased with how this fellow turned out. I'm particularly proud of the big eye on his chest. I think he and the Apprentice I posted earlier make a pretty good "odd couple" Soothsayer pair.
  9. I recently posted over on the Conversions sub-forum about how I converted the Olivia, Female Cleric, figure into a Sigilist wizard for a new Frostgrave warband I am working on: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69559-olivia-cleric-bones-jolie-scribe-to-sigilist-apprentice-conversion/ A Sigilist derives their magical power from words and languages, so I wanted her to be very "word" oriented. Besides her two books and inkwell, I wanted to paint her cloak to look like it had magical words floating all over it that appeared to floating to the surface and then receding back down again. I asked on the Works in Progress sub-forum for some help on how to achieve this and got some great advice: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69652-advice-wanted-on-word-covered-wizard-robes/ I put that advice to use, and am pleased with the results:

    Goblin Command (77349) (Bones)

This week I finished up the Goblin Command pair from the Bones 2 Kickstarter, Expansion 1. Nothing fancy, just quick paint jobs to get them tabletop ready.

    Mi-Sher (Bones)(77217)

I painted up Mi-Sher this week. She is supposed to be wielding two swords, but I had borrowed her second sword a while back to use with my Chronomancer Apprentice, Sascha Dubois; and the figure had been sitting around my painting table off-handedly until I realized recently that with just one sword she would make a good Thug for Frostgrave. So, I found a suitable replacement hand from my bits box of hard plastic figure parts, and after prepping the figure, I super-glued the hand in place. I did a standard table-top job on her, and used a 10mm figure, painted up and mounted like a fallen and broken statue, to decorate the base. I'm generally happy with how the figure came out. The pose may be a little awkward without the second sword, but I like to think it looks like she is signaling to a compatriot as she runs along, or perhaps preparing to climb a ruin. As always, C & C welcome.
  12. This week I finished up two of the Bones 2 Kickstarter dwarf cleric figures: Barden Barrelstrap from the Dragons Don't Share set, and Thain Grimthorn from the Original Core set. I paired them up as being ideal to fill the roles of a Thaumaturge wizard and his Apprentice for my Frostgrave collection. And, since I wanted them to be dressed similarly, I figured I would paint them both at the same time. I had the idea that they would be followers of the twin gods of metal: Argent and Aur. So, I decided to paint them in yellow and white as the symbolic colors of their gods. Nothing fancy, just tabletop paint jobs. As always, C & C welcome.

    Hoardlings (Bones) (77335)

This week I completed the Hordlings set from the Bones II, Expansion I. I needed something quick and simple to do because I was traveling over Spring Break, so knew my painting time would be limited. Since there were three of these figures in the set, I decided to base up two of them for Frostgrave, to represent Minor Demons; and the third I based regularly for other Fantasy games. I just did quick tabletop paint jobs. I've been painting a bunch of dark and drab stuff lately, so it was nice to use some vibrant colors for a change! As always, C & C welcome.
  14. This week I finished up the Canine figure from the "Bones 2" KS Original Figures set. He is part of the Animal Companion set in Reaper's online store. I chose to paint it up like a Wild Dog, one of the Creatures encountered in Frostgrave. Nothing fancy, just a tabletop paint job. C and C welcome.

    Black Bear (77216) (Bones)

This week I painted the Bear figure from the Bones II Original Figures set. He is part of the Animal Companions set in the Reaper store. I chose to paint it up like a Black Bear and base it for Frostgrave. Nothing fancy; just a quick paint for game use. C & C welcome.

    Snow Leopard (77216) (Bones)

This week I painted up the big cat figure that came with the Bones II KS original set of figures. He belongs to the Animal Companions pack in the online store. I chose to paint him as a Snow Leopard to use in my Frostgrave games. I just did a quickie tabletop paint job on it, but am pleased with the results. As always, C & C welcome.
  17. This week I finished up the last of the Town Guard from the Bones II, Expansion 2, "Town Guard" set, by painting the Spearman figure. There's been a number of these posted here of late, so I thought I'd add mine to the forum as well. :) His spear was all bent out of shape, and I tried the usual Bones boiling water straightening method to get it right again, but just wasn't able to get it perfectly straight. While I don't mind a little "wonkiness" in a wizards staff, I felt the spear really needed to be straight. So, I replaced the Bones spear shaft with one made from a round toothpick. It was no problem slicing off the original shaft, drilling through the hand, and drilling a small indent in the bottom of the spear head, and then gluing it all back together again with Gorilla Superglue. I then did a simple tabletop paint-job on him, added an old Space Marine transfer to the shield, and based him for use with Frostgrave. As always, C & C welcome.

    Anhurian Crossbowman (77357) (Bones)

This week I completed the Town Guard (Anhurian) Crossbowman from the Bones II, Expansion 2 "Town Guard" set. I did a nice simple tabletop paint job on him, and it's probably no surprise that I based him up to use in Frostgrave. As always C & C welcome.

    Bones Anhurians

The last 2 weeks I've rushed (after work) through a set of bones Anhurians - my samples from Bones 2, and 1 pack of each of swordsmen, spearmen, bowmen, and crossbowmen. I needed fantasy soldiers eventually. First off a class photo. More photos of each to come - I just have to crop them and get them off my phone. I tried a variety of skin tones, but there wasn't much distinguishing 3 of them. I was originally planning some freehand on the shields, but decided not to after testing out my plans. I may revisit that at a later date. WIP kinda

    Bones Wall of Ice 77312

I'm pretty happy with my Wall of Ice. The WIP is here. I tried doing the highlighting 2 different ways - I described it in the WIP - but I don't remember which is which anymore. I used a variety of inks - I'll have to get back about which ones exactly, I don't remember any more - to try and create some variety in the thickness of the ice, but it didn't work out so well. Edging was done with Reaper Ghost White. There's some happy accidents in there too where the brush slipped. If anyone's wondering, yes this is still see-through.

  24. This was a quick paint inspired by a few threads. The detail is in the WIP, which starts here. This was totally fun, though I realized I have no bronze paint, so I mixed up an oiled bronze from black, a dark brown and copper.. and a bit of antique gold. It looked OK by my inexpert eye.

    77205: Alistrilee [Bones 2]

Ok, here is a figure I started at RCon. I wanted to get a palette cleansing figure done before I got back to my other WIPs. I didn't realize she was a Bone 2 figure till I got back. So I guess Alistrilee will be my first Bones 2 I paint up. Odd how I'm thinking of doing a figure with all that gold NMM as palette cleansing. Here is where I'm starting from:
