  1. I know that Bones do not take spray primer without staying sticky but have read that the vallejo brush on primer works well. The question is that if you put the bush on primer first can you add a spray one primer after without the mini staying sticky? I know that the vallejo's can be airbrushed on but because i don't have a dedicated painting area its kind of a pain to drag out the airbrush to try out two tone priming.
  2. When I first saw this model in Bones 1 I knew I had to do a custom piece. So, several months later, here it is. Now a closeup: And finally a top-down view of the base: Hope you guys like it, it's been one of the most fun projects I've ever done and I'm really happy with the colour scheme and how the base looks. Any comments and criticism welcome as always :)
  3. Long time I did not post a little painted guy :) That’s the left over figure from the diorama, so I finally got him paint.
  4. I loved painting these guys. Originally I wanted to paint them like the characters from the game by ChainsawAwesome, but my children objected to one of the colors, so one of them is clearly a previously-unknown unlockable. ;-) One of the really awesome features of these sculpts is the parchment on the back of the shields. I'm still debating if I trust my freehand ability enough to write something on it... like "POINT OTHER SIDE AT ENEMY" or "PILLAGE, THEN BURN" ;-)
  5. This was a rush job for an upcoming game, totally missed the mold lines...but he’s good enough. 2nd pic was still WIP
  6. Not really sure where to put this question but this seems as good as any place. Is reaper done making metal minis? I own well over 100 legendary and warlord mini's as all as most of the old dragons all in pewter and much prefer pewter to the bones line. I'm mostly interested in the beautiful new dragons that reapers been turning out, and will be with the next bones 4
  7. Hey there, adventurer! I'm just a friendly little treasure chest. Why don't you slowly reach in and grab a few coins...BLAGHABLAGHABLAH!!!
  8. Some orcs that I had started a while ago as practice but set aside but are now ready for some WAAARRRGH! I still really like these designs of orcs with the exception of trying to paint the eyes on them, half the time I cant tell where the eyes should go. I think of the four the Berserk is my favorite. C&C always welcome. Bones used 77429: Orc Grunt 77059: Orc Berserker (Two Handed Sword) 77051: Orc Stalker (Two Weapons) 77045: Orc Hunter (Spear)
  9. 77140: Townsfolk: Village Rioter sculpted by Bobby Jackson I've been working on a big army project, so I painted this to take a break and refresh my brain. I've been working on an OSL speed painting technique to use in my painting classes, and I think it's working pretty well. This is roughly 4-5 hours work, so a ways to go yet before its really 'speed painting'.
  10. Hey all! My DDS 2 came in the mail today, and I pulled out the tower to look at it. Boy does that stuff feel weird to an guy who has pretty much only done metal, with some resin here and there! So, what kind of Glue does one use to assemble the tower???? I read Wren's post that super glue was best, but this material makes me wonder... Is this most people's experience? Also, do most folks base the whole this as a piece, or leave them separate? Thanks in advance! 8) George
  11. Been working a lot and had limited time so just knocking out easy minis, an animated statue and some giant spiders
  12. Had this guy sitting around from when I got him as and extra from last years Halloween sale. I wanted to try a new, for me technique using a filter to try and simulate a patina on the bronze areas because no one give skeletons brand new weapons C&C always welcome
  13. Here is the battle mage from Bones 3. He was a lot of fun to paint and I love the pony so much! I want a whole herd of ponies! I painted him up very flamboyantly with bright colors and gave him a pattern on his robe. I also tried doing a worn leather look for his hat. He is so cute! I give you Randalf the Red and his pony Pumpkin.
  14. Haven’t posted anything in a while, so may as well break the silence with a WIP. I cleaned up Mashaaf, glued it together and stuck it on a CD base. Didn’t take pics until after the brown liner coat. Then base coated all but the base. The claws and leg things and tail thing got maroon red. The belly got nmm gold shadow. The upper abdomen got a sample purple color and I extended that to the bottom of the tentacles. The face and upper tentacles got entrail pink. The back and body got nightsky blue and the rocks on its back got walnut brown. Finally I used holly berry for the “eye spots” This is where it’s at right now: Probably will need another coat of each but I’ll try to get the base and rocks on the back dry brushed first since that may mess up some other areas.

    Foo on You

I got the coloring from pictures of tattoos. apparently many also have green spots. I Aint doin green spots. He was fun to paint, I may get a second one for a diorama,.
  16. I finally got photos uploaded to the blog. Here's the link to them so I don't have a super picture heavy post. ETA: Most of the minis are from the Bones 3 KS. Minivember 2017 Here's a sneak peek:
  17. Felltyde

    Coral Golem

Still have a few details to pick out, but 95% done. Not as easy as I thought it would be...I actually reprimered it half way through and started over
  18. A tribe of Ogres from Reaper Miniatures. I was originally just going to get the Matriarch, having previously traded away the other Ogres from the Kickstarter core set, thinking I had enough from my former Ogre Kingdoms army for Warhammer. Seeing them all together in person changed my mind! Sadly, my not-so-local shop was out of the Smasher. I'll have to add him in later! The Matriarch. I'm tempted to get another and convert her to look more like a fighter. I was tempted to slice down the Goblin servant's ears and paint him as a baby Ogre on a leash. The Chieftain. I love his door-shield! The Clubber (not to be confused with the Ogre Raver) The Guard.
  19. I found one more wolf in my "hoard of unpainted things". He must have been in the Halloween goodies or the Christmas stocking. Oh well, I wanted a white wolf for my pack and now I have one! I would take more poses of wolves (hint, hint, Reaper!)
  20. Felltyde

    Lich

Big bad guy for current campaign
  21. Okay, I promise I'll finish one of these threads one day. But in the meantime I've started painting the Bones Sphinx. I've already painted up the wings, I've just got a few little things to do. I do want to thank @Pochi for the inspiration for the wings. Photos:

  23. I needed some minis for an upcoming arctic adventure, so I knocked these out. Disappointed with my effort, sloppy and boring. Good enough for the game table, but I doubt I’ll be diving into this sorta thing again anytime soon
  24. I decided to paint a bunch of things to fill up any torture chambers I would need to create in my builds. The table with the implements is not from Reaper and is in metal. I do not remember who it is from. :) The Bones painted up a bunch quicker though! :)
  25. GodOfCheese

    Bad Kitty

It's as if the creature is saying "This is my watering hole! Go find your own" I really wasn't sure how to do the wings, which was why there's so much contrast between the wing webs and the wing fingers, but I do like how he came out. Feedback appreciated, especially any advice on the wings!
