  1. This is the biggest "miniature" I've ever painted. I would not have even looked at it if someone hadn't asked me to paint it. It was a great challenge and a great learning experience. I love his slightly goofy "intoxicated" facial expression.
  2. Hi just wondering if all the previous bones miniatures will eventually be cast in the black bonesium or will they be kept in the original bonesium only?
  3. I painted a raptor. He was a speed paint to let out some steam.
  4. My take on the Giant Rhinoceros Beatle from KS4
  5. EvilJames

    Black warg

So this is an experiment in multiple ways. First, when I painted this guy up. I wanted to try and paint a black wolf for something different. I wasn't sure how to make the fur stand out, so this is the first time I've used reference photos. Also for the longest time I've been having trouble getting photos to turn out. They look fine on the phone but awful on my laptop when I try to edit them. Turns out, when you upload things to a potato, they look like potato. So I'm seeing if I can make it work with just my phone. Anyway here we go.
  6. I've never successfully done lava so I'm attempting it again. Hopefully this little guy will be lava-riffic. Started with a base coat of Clear Yellow, unthinned.
  7. This past week I painted Bufo, the Frogman (or maybe he's supposed to be a Toadman) figure from the Bones 4 Dreadmere Expansion. I decided I'd paint him like a frog, and since most all of my frog figures are already painted like colorful tree frogs and poison dart frogs, I thought I'd continue that pattern and paint Bufo like a Red Eyed Monkey Tree Frog. I love how full of character this figure is, and had been looking forward to painting him since the Kickstrater ran. Painted for tabletop use.
  8. Prex

    Demon from Bones 4

I take so long to pain a figure that I decided to try and challenge myself to fully complete a figure, including basing, to tabletop standard in a single day. This was the result. I will likely go back and darken the wing membranes a bit but overall I'm pretty happy with the overall effect. It was also my first try at a lava base.
  9. For a recent game I was able to finish these two pieces, Svetlana, Frost Giant Princess and Boerogg Blackrime, Frost Giant Jarl. I was going for a whiter skin on the giants. I tried it on Boerogg, but it did not work out like I wanted so I left Svetlana the way she was. If you want to see their in between stages, check out my blog.
  10. Trying to paint the new Bones 4 Roc with the coloring of the American Kestrel. You can see some of my printed off sample images/notes. I was mainly taking the photos so I can recall what colors I am blocking in sections, so if I get distracted (typically), I can go back an easily pick up the colors I need. As I was taking the picture, I thought I might try my first WIP, so here it goes...
  11. I had used a bunch of leftover paint for the Reaper bones version of Aviriel Tellerion (77070), and those colors where more in the "evil spectrum" so I switched her over to being a dark elf. Very happy with how her face turned out, sadly she is looking down so you cannot really see it on the table. It has been a while since I posted, I have had a slump in my desire to paint this spring and I tend to wait until I have a bunch to show off to get the light box out. Avirion here was painted in March.
  12. So this is the bones version of Thain Grimthorn the Dwarf Cleric (77213). I was stuck on painting him for a long time, I had started with a normal skin tone, but it just didn't click for me. Then I had the epiphany that since it was unlikely that someone would pick him as a PC was very low, so I should paint him as an evil dwarf instead. I am much happier with him now. Here I present Thain the evil dwarf:
  13. Since Callie is coming to a close, I have been preparing the Oxidation Beast. I have one in metal also, so I will paint both together. I had some 40mm hollow, round lipped bases that seem like a good fit. I used some styrene model train cobblestone for one, and sculpted dressed stone tiles for the other. I plan for one to use the 5th Edition Monster Manual color scheme (Bones) And the metal one to follow the Pathfinder Bestiary 1 color scheme. It has a red with black stipple color scheme.
  14. Next up, a thundering of Giants from Reaper Miniatures Bones 4. I went for 3 different skin tones this time.
  15. boldfont

    Djinn bones 4

Speed paint! I’m happy with it though. There’s a lot to paint from the Kickstarter.
  16. I love this model. Even with her slightly too-long sword hilt and bendy sword. I straightened it, but it has slowly bent again. This is a figure to represent a female paladin of Sarenrae for our Pathfinder Reign of Winter campaign: a redhead whose favorite color is green. That is why she is on a snow base. I wanted to spend a lot of time on her, and am very happy with the blending on the gray NMM. It took about 3 rounds of painting transitions then glazing over the lines to smooth everything out. I tried a little weathering to the leather scabbards and belt to make them look scratched from adventuring use. This was also the first time I tried giving a female figure makeup: blush, eye shadow, and lipstick. I'm not sure how good that came out, I'll let you all tell me. The sword blade was the least successful part. It just didn't want to cooperate, which is due in part to the softer details on the casting. I hope you like her as much as I do. C&C Welcome.
  17. Now that my Bones 4 order is here, my backwards brain decided it's finally time to paint the fire dragon I've had in my box of shame for a year and a half! I don't think I can claim that I'm "new to painting" anymore, but this is my first dragon and by far the biggest mini I've attempted thus far. In order to actually paint more things I like instead of saving them until I've practiced or become good enough to attempt them, I'm trying to adopt the mentality of trying at least one new technique with every mini I paint. Hopefully this will get me out of my comfort zone and into some new styles and skills. The focus of this guy is going to be blending, both wet and feathering. I'm still getting used to the process of documenting my WIPs, so if anybody has suggestions or requests (pics of my working palette, color recipes, what have you) please let me know. Lots of pics beyond the spoiler!
  18. This Bones figure was the demonstration model in my 2-hour "Good Fast Painting" class at ReaperCon 2017. I got her about 2/3 done in the class. She stood half-painted on my shelf for a year and a half. This past Sunday, I just needed to paint something, and this was it. An hour later, I was ready to call her done. As always, I spent a lot more time per square millimeter on the face & eyes. Enjoy! Derek
  19. Got to get a brighter light, but here are my bugbears.
  20. Hey all, been a while. Quick job from Bones 4. Added a saddle, threw on a Mantic Soul Reaver cavalry rider with a head swap from Puppetswar.
  21. My first post here! I thought the bones 4 ape men would make good soldiers for my growing demonic army. Still thinking of tweaking some of the smaller details and considering also painting the armored one as a barlgura. Tried to give some texture by dry brushing orange over a black base coat for fur. I also tried to dry brush around the eyes to create a deep red glowing effect. Shown with a human paladin for scale. C and c welcome but keep in mind I’m pretty new to this! The monster Manual art for reference:
  22. Mostly aimed at Frostgrave, Ghost Archipelago, and Rangers of Shadow Deep, here's some more completed miniatures from Reaper Bones 4. Clever girls. Ape Attack! "But no one ever asks, Howvern?" They're here to harass KoRn: I'm a big fan of the tongue-lashing sculpt. Dreadmere's Giant Leeches, painted up to be Purple Wormlings:
  23. This was one of the first add-ons from the Kickstarter that was a must for me. Monster Undead are always fun.
  24. I recently started a project to go through the Bones 1 KS models I have in order from a printout of the Rewards pictures. Here is the first project: Cassie, Gnome Wizard. There are some great examples of her out there. I knew I wanted a purple-haired gnome, and just went from there. The most aggravating part of this miniature was the cloak. I wasn't planning on spending so much time on these figures, but I tried a freehand Raindrop pattern, and it took a long time. Link to WIP Enjoy. C&C Welcome. -Darc
