I've had a project waiting in the wings for quite some time now, simply painting my box of goodwill picks. This project kept getting shuffled back in my queue so much that I'll now be painting picks from the 12th and 13th circuit. Though I have painted some of my picks a few still remain. Starting off I grabbed the three miniatures I was most excited to paint with the intention of only working on them one at a time. That didn't happen though as I soon found myself bouncing between two miniatures. Then before I knew it they were nearly finished.

An old friend from college is finally getting married so in addition to their more traditional wedding gift my wife and I decided to make them something as well. While my wife opted for a nice cross stitch wall hanger, I went my usual route of miniatures. As luck would have it I even pulled the perfect miniature from the last round of the Box of Goodwill. Since I first met him my friend has always been a fan of Fallout, way more than I ever got into it. As a fan he owns all the games, has some Fallout wall art throughout his house, and even owns a large bucket filled with bottle caps; like I said he's a fan. So as a bonus wedding present I decided to paint up Astro Girl as the Nuka Cola girl. This being a present I even attempted some simple eyes, a step I usually ignore. I think he'll get a kick out of it and who knows my handiwork may even get a spot on the mantelpiece right next to his bottle of Nuka Cola Quantum.

Here we go again . . . In the simplest terms, this is a basing version of the Box of Goodwill. Those of us who have a lot basing materials will be able to share our wealth with those new to basing. Others might have interesting bits and pieces that they use and want to add some to inspire others. Or you might have easy access to certain materials that others do not. Due to the nature of some of the materials in the box, at this time the box will only be making the rounds in the US. Please provide the following info in your replies to this thread: Where you live If you want to be a box starter or can contribute to seeding a box What's Going In: Any structural basing material: cork, plasticard, bark, branches, sand, etc Any decorative basing material: leaves, flock, static grass, tufts, etc Bits and Pieces: electronics, gears, beads, stones, etc Scenic elements Plinths Premade and stamped bases, try to not overwhelm the box with these No miniatures, that is what the regular BoGW is for Note: If you are sending natural materials that you collected yourself, please take necessary steps to get rid on any unwanted nasties. Some methods mentioned in the interest thread were a quick dip in some bleach water and then rinse and dry off and/or baking. Please make sure everything is properly packaged, sealed, and labeled. Basic Info: Into a medium flat rate box will go a bunch of basing material. Then the box will be sent off to those in the circuit. As a one to one exchange of materials might be difficult for those newer to basing, this will work more off an honor system in that you add what you can but take what you need. As we all know in basing, a little can go a long way. So in the box will be some small baggies that will allow you to take what you need without having to take it all. For example, if there is a large bag of flock or gravel, you would be able to take a little instead of having to take the whole bag. Once you have gotten what you need and added what you can, you will pack it up and send it on. More Details: The box starters will put together their box and start it on its way. We will PM the tracking info of the box to the first recipient and then each recipient after that will PM the tracking number to myself AND the person that they're shipping it to. Participants will post in the arrival/departure thread when they have received the package and again when they send it off to the next person. They can post pictures of what they took in the chatter thread but it is not mandatory. Participants are responsible for contacting the next person in line and getting their shipping information. The order of the circuit will be public knowledge, so feel free to exchange shipping info how/whenever you wish. If the next person does not provide their shipping information within a reasonable amount of time, they will be skipped. You will have 1 week from time of arrival to take a look and make your choices before sending it on its way. Shipping will be via a medium flat rate box. Tracking and insurance are included in the cost. In the event of it not arriving at it intended destination, the person that mailed the box will make the insurance claim and use the proceeds to purchase items to fill and ship a replacement box. Sign ups will end Midnight February 9th (Pacific Time). Once I know who is participating, I will figure out the order, and put up the Arrival/Departure thread. The order will be in the first post of both it and the Chatter thread. We will aim to get the boxes sent out to the first person by February 17th. If something comes up and you need to drop out for whatever reason or your place in line needs to be adjusted, let me know as soon as possible so I can make the necessary adjustments. I think that is it, if there is something I missed or you need more information ask in the Chatter thread or PM me.

Welcome to the BoGW chatter thread for round 4! Did everyone like the way we did last round with coordinator 'a' shipping the box out, but having the circuit end with coordinator 'b'? Or would everyone rather go back to coordinator 'a' sending out a box and having it return to him/her at the end of the circuit? And here's the arrival/departure thread: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/68383-the-travels-of-sir-forscale-and-friends-box-of-goodwill-round-4-arrivaldeparture-thread-no-chatter/ Also, if there are any questions, check the first post here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/68158-box-of-goodwill-round-4-sign-up-thread-the-continuing-journey-of-sir-forescale-and-friends/ If that doesn't help, PM your box starter (the bold name at the top of the group that you are in), if they can't help you either, then contact Dilvish or myself. Welcome to the spring edition of the Box of Goodwill! You may have heard about the fabled 'Box of Goodwill'. Maybe you were involved last time, maybe you're new and would like to see what it's all about. Well, you're in the right place!! Read on: This is the official, soon to be patented sign up thread for round 4. As before, please provide the following info in your replies to this thread: Where you live If you'd be willing to ship internationally (more expensive) If you want to be a box starter (depending on the amount of interest) There has been a minor rules clarification made. There is also a slight change. Even if you were involved in one or both of the previous versions, please make sure you read them carefully. Basically, put some stuff you don't want/will never get to/think other people will find cool into a box and send it to someone else. That recipient will take out whatever interests them, replace a like amount of stuff and ship it to the next person in line. And so on. The last person will send it back to a different coordinator ( the person who originally sent out one of the boxes ). What's allowed: 1)Any miniature 1a) this means any material, any genre, any manufacturer, any subject matter. If you put lead in, please label it somehow (separate baggy or whatever) 2)Anything mini related 2a) bases, basing material (please package this very securely, and label it), terrain, scenic bits, whatever. 3) Free stuff--leftover bits, drawings, etc. Please label these items as 'free' or 'giveaway'. If you want some of this stuff, take it, you don't have to match it. 3a)Please limit the amount of non-miniatures related items to whatever will fit into a standard sized Ziploc sandwich bag if it is bulky. Drawings/sketches take up next to no space at all and don't need to be stuffed into said baggy. 3a-1)Use common sense. Also, if you have some hand-crafted, custom-built shark skin and mithril dice bags or whatever that you're certain everyone will love, PM your coordinator and the folks in your circuit and see what everyone things of the idea. Majority rules. 4) Keep it reasonable; try not to put in anything larger than 54mm. That's gonna eat up a lot of space, and create a lot of 'what's it worth' questions. What's NOT allowed: 1)Paint/liquid 2)Perishable items 3)Exceptionally bulky, non miniature related items. Donate that 7th extra copy of the Player's Handbook to someone that you game with. How it works: A coordinator will put together a box of stuff and send it out to 8-10 people in his/her circuit. When you receive the box, take out whatever you like and replace it with a like amount of stuff. The value of what you replace should be equal to or slightly exceed whatever you take. We're gonna use the honor system here, so it's going to be somewhat subjective. Trades should be on a one-for-one basis, unless you're taking something big, in which case it's one-for-two. For example: If you see 4 orcs that you want, take them and replace them with 4 other roughly man-sized figures. If there's a larger figure (54mm ) that you want, take it, and replace it with either 1 similarly sized figure, or 2 man sized figures. Once you're finished, pack it up and send it to the next person in line. Here are some other specifics: 1)The coordinator will put together a box and start it on it's way. Each coordinator will pm me with the tracking info of the box as it sets out to the first recipient. After this, each recipient will pm the tracking number to their coordinator (the person who started the box) AND the person that they're shipping it to. 2)Participants will publicly announce when they have received the package (pictures would be cool, but aren't mandatory), and again when they send it off to the next person. For example: I received the box o' goodwill from Chaoswolf. When ready to ship, 'I'm sending the box to Pingo'. 2a)Participants will also be responsible for contacting the next person and getting their shipping information. The people involved in any given circuit will be public knowledge, so feel free to exchange shipping info how/whenever you wish. 3)Each participant will have 1 week from the arrival of the box to make their swaps and then send the box on to the next person. 4) For participants in the USA, shipping will be via flat rate boxes. Tracking and insurance are included in the cost. In the event of loss, the person mailing the box will make the insurance claim and use the proceeds to purchase items to fill and ship a replacement box. 5) I'm anticipating roughly 3-4 months for each box to make a complete circuit (8-10 people x 1week per person + travel time). Once all boxes have completed the circuit (returned to the coordinator), we'll open up a new sign up thread and start the process over again if there's interest. Coordinators will need to pm me so I know that all circuits are complete. 6) This will be open to everyone. We have had several people express willingness to run/participate in a circuit for the newer members; I feel that this somewhat offsets any concerns about anyone's 'reliability'. Perhaps I'm a little naive, but the feeling I'm getting from both public posts and pm's is that everyone really seems to want this to work. Newer members are defined as anyone who hasn't been active on the boards for a year,or without at least one completed exchange. 7) Sign ups will end Midnight April 17th (east coast time). There will be a little wiggle room allowed here to allow for different time zones and whatnot. Once I get up the following morning, it's closed. I'll figure out how many people are involved, how many groups there are, who's going to coordinate and post that information in the first post of the chatter thread. 8) Individual coordinators are able to exercise a bit of leeway within their circuit. They will be setting up the initial package, so they can just stuff a box, or do a quick survey of everyone in their circuit to determine preferences. If they want to suggest everyone slap a color on Sir Forscale (or his designated representative), that's up to them. I'm thinking that the coordinators can run things pretty smoothly. If there's a question or concern, hit them up. Coordinators: if you're not sure how to proceed, hit me up and we'll work it out. 9) if something comes up and you need to drop out for whatever reason (life happens), please contact your coordinator as soon as possible so that he/she can make the necessary adjustments. 10)The group paint figure is not mandatory, just a little something extra for those who are so inclined. Also, coordinators please note: we're changing up the way the boxes will end up; you won't be getting your group paint figure back, you'll be getting someone else's. 11) Have fun! Ok, I'm pretty sure I've covered everything. If I missed something, or it's unclear, please bring it up in the chatter thread, or PM me. Don't add it here. Suggestions for a different 'group paint' figure and/or title can go in the chatter thread, too. ETA---I don't want to make any assumptions here. Even if you were in the other rounds, please indicate if you'd like to do round 4. Thanks

Here is the round 3 chatter/photo thread. As before, I'll edit this post with the coordinators and groups. Round 2 is dead, long live round 3!! Arrival/departure thread is now up: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/64345-the-travels-of-sir-forscale-and-friends-box-of-goodwill-round-3-arrival-departure-thread-no-chatter/ And as promised, here are the coordinators and groups; if I missed anybody or otherwise goofed up somehow, let me know. That's because we're changing things up a little; instead of the last person in each group sending it back to the box starter (the name at the top), you'll be sending it to a different box starter (the name at the bottom). The box starter/coordinator (name at the top of each list) is the person in charge; that's who you need to get a hold of if there are any issues. You can also get a hold of Ub3rN3rd or myself since we're the ones in charge of this rodeo, but please try to work things out through your coordinator first; that's what they're there for. If there are any questions, they should be covered in the first post here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/63922-random-box-of-goodwill-round-3-signup-thread/ Just a reminder: The group paint figure is not mandatory, just a little something extra for those who are so inclined. So there was some discussion in the Randomness thread about basing materials and if there would be any interest in a basing version of the Box of Goodwill. Since basing is one of my favorite things and I have collected a lot of various basing materials, I volunteered myself to get this started. I think this would be good for both people new to basing but it could also benefit those that already have stuff. Those new to basing would be able to start building their supply of materials while those that have some already might be able to get material that may not be readily available where they live and it would provide an opportunity for them to unload stuff they may have too much of. For example, one of the things that I love to use in basing is pine bark but I do not have any trees near me but someone else might have trees in their backyard. On the other hand, I have collected a lot of cork in various thickness and I was given some plasticard for Christmas that I rarely use, both of those would be good for someone new to basing. Also people will use something on their bases that someone else may not have thought to use and so putting some in the box may spark someone's imagination. So who is interested? Any thoughts?

It's summer time; it's too hot to do anything outside, unless you like sunburns and heat stroke. You really need to look into something you can do inside. But what? How about painting some cool miniatures? 'But I don't have any cool miniatures!', you cry. You may have heard about the fabled 'Box of Goodwill'. Maybe you were involved last time, maybe you're new and would like to see what it's all about. Well, you're in the right place!! Read on: This is the official, soon to be patented sign up thread for round 3. 7) Sign ups will end Midnight August 31st (east coast time). Even if you were in the other rounds, please indicate if you'd like to do round 3. Thanks

HERE WE GO!!! The journey for Friar Stone has finally reached its conclusion, he has returned home with many tales to tell and many adventures to reminisce about. His final stop brought him to me to have his base done and I went with something simple, but elegant. A stone pave way with him situated on top of one of the display plinths I won at the ReaperCon auction and stained up a nice color. Figure: Friar Stone, The Traveling Monk Manufacturer: Reaper Miniatures SKU#: 03205 Sculptor: Tre Manor Material: Metal Participants: ub3r_n3rd Korimar Samurai Jack Hibou Generic Fighter Talae CashWiley Thank you to everyone who was involved in this project, he is AWESOME, such great painting and I was happy to base him up!

In the last Box o' Goodwill round, I had the opportunity to start a box. Since we had a number of Sir Forscales around already, we landed on Bobby Jackson's Hosilla for our group-paint project. My group members did all the work; I just added a little basing that hopefully isn't too obnoxious--I noticed in the photos the lighter color of the stuff I used didn't take the wash fully in a spot or two, especially along one edge. So it looks a bit bright. Sorry. I'll fix it later but decided to go ahead and post it since it since the painting's what's hot, here. It's some fine painting everyone did, too. Please to be enjoying the work of these folks, in mailing order: Fishnjeeps IzzyLobo Pingo Fanguad Arc724 Kadence Ironhammer I think these are the first pictures I've posted using the lightbox I made. Hopefully these do the group's fine painting at least a little bit of justice.
