  1. After declaration of completion in your WIP thread, you have 2 hours to submit your official entry photos in this thread (this is to allow time for setting up of photo taking area). Up to 5 pictures per entry may be submitted. This thread will be open for submission of completed entries until midnight CST on August 1st 2018. Questions? Ask them here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/75387-maal-drakar-7-day-goblin-contest-launch-date For the index of WIP and Show-off threads, go here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/75793-maal-drakar-7-day-challenge-index-of-threads/ Best of luck! Huzzah! --OneBoot :D
  2. OneBoot and I will be kicking off this latest 7-day challenge on August 1st, 2017 and it will run for a full year until August 1st, 2018. This is to give participants time to arrange for a 7-day block of time to work on the piece, as it will likely need every minute! This will be the first 7-Day challenge to have a contest component for best completed entry, which will have a prize. My understanding is that Reaper will provide a gift certificate ($50 was the amount discussed) for the ultimate winner. (As I am running the contest, I am of course not eligible for the prize) Any additional information updates will be posted here. As with all 7-Day Goblin Challenges, this will adhere to the Goblin Challenge Rules here: Note that extra terrain work/basing outside of what is included with the piece is not judged as part of the finished process, so it will not count towards making your finished piece the prettiest. Only the finished work of the basic model (all of what is included at retail) is considered, so budget your time and efforts appropriately. Make sure you read the official challenge rules and stick by them so that you don't wind up accidentally disqualified. For this one, filling gaps and cleaning mold lines will count towards the finished piece. (Other normal challenges they don't since they don't compete with each other for prizes, that is just for this particular contest)
  3. This thread will serve as an index of all the Work in Progress and Show-off threads created by participants in this glorious madness. Don't post your entries here! Please make your own threads, then make a post here with links to them. Thread for Official Entries is here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/76081-maal-drakar-7-day-challenge-official-entries-no-chatter/ The Challenge will begin on August 1st 2017, and will be open for submission of completed entries until midnight CST on August 1st 2018. For further information, please see this thread. Please familiarize yourself with the Official Rules BEFORE you start your Challenge! We don't want to have to disqualify anyone's hard work! Official Rules: Link to FAQ: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69639-7-day-goblin-challenge-official-rules/ Now, forth, and fear no dragon! Arise! Arise, Painters of Ma'al Drakar! Paints shall be shaken! Brushes shall be splintered! A glorious day... A Seven day... Ere the deadline rises!!!
  4. We all knew this day would come eventually. The day where OneBoot tosses the very few marbles she has left into the ocean and throws herself in after them. The blank 4th spot in my lovely Goblin Challenge signature badge has been glaring at me for several months now, and my personal circumstances have now aligned to allow me to attempt this, my final Challenge. For those of you unfamiliar with Goblin Painting Challenges, started by our very own @buglips*the*goblin, here is a link to his Kaladrax thread that started it all: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/51269-kaladrax-in-seven-days-buglips-is-crazy-wip/& The short version of the rules is that I will be painting up Dragons Don't Share - 2014 edition in 7 days, using no brushes larger than a size 0. Here's the long version of the rules: You are all invited to join me in my descent into further madness! But only if you bring chocolate and gummy worms. On a personal note, out of all 4 Goblin Challenges, this is actually the one I've been the most nervous about all along (yes, even more so than Ma'al Drakar). Those adventurers are likely to prove to be 5 lovely little time sinks for me, and I'll have to concentrate very hard not to get caught up in all those beautiful details on them! But who knows, maybe it'll end up being the terrain that eats all my time and sanity; we get to find out together! My general plan is as follows: The first couple of days will focus on brown linering and basecoating ALL THE THINGS, while also putting on faces and eyes while my hands are still fairly steady. I will work primarily on the adventurers the first few days, but will take 'breaks' to work on the terrain and the dragon in between to let my eyes and hands relax a bit from the tiny work. My aim is to finish the adventurers by the end of Day 4, or at least get them to "good enough" status; fun fiddly detail bits can be added after this point if I have time, but even without those the figures could be declared done. My final day will likely be focused on finishing up the terrain, and possibly the dragon's wings. Not sure about that yet, but that's what I anticipate. Started: April 3rd 2018, 4:00pm PDT Finished: April 10th 2018, 8:17am PDT Show-off thread: Huzzah! --OneBoot :D
  5. So.... Back when I first joined the forums, I found a thread about a certain Goblin painting a limited edition Ral Partha figure that I happened to own, but had been sitting in a box for 15-20 years due to the 'I'm not good enough' syndrome.... Well I decided that I Was Good Enough and set to work, as chronicled by this so as at the time of being a noob arround here, I was very encouraged by the multiple responses that I got.... such as:
  6. Hi, friends! In continuing with our plan to catch up with painting the Dungeon Dwellers as a joint WIP together as they come out, can I interest you in some Baran Blacktree? Buglips and I will be painting him in our usual fashion, but if you haven't already, make sure that you check out Rhonda Bender's awesome PDF painting guide for him here: Dungeon Dwellers Y'all probably know by now how these go, but if not, check out our Thanis the Bonecaller thread where it all began and that'll give you links to all of the other joint WIP threads we've done.
  7. Hi friends! We have another project to share with you in our continuing series where Buglips and I paint the same figure using our own very different from each other approaches to miniature painting. If you're not familiar with this series, you can check out our previous topics: 03100: Thanis the Bonecaller 01614: Con Crud 2017 Convention Zombie 02818: Bugbear Warrior For this project, we decided to paint Scorpius Rex Dracus, which is an older figure in the back catalog of Reaper - just look at the number! 02017! He's one of the OG's of the Reaper catalog! Our usual method for picking a figure is generally that one of us already owns it and suggests it and then the other of us goes and orders it. However, for Scorpius Rex Dracus, we actually both already owned him because he's a really neat figure with a lot of personality. I know a lot of people are a bit intimidated by the thought of painting dragons, but I promise they're a lot of fun and this guy would actually be a great starter dragon, as he's on the smaller side. I didn't have a Sir Forscale, but here he is next to Queen Illeosa of Korvosa to give you an idea of his size. So you can see, he's a far less intimidating size than the dragons you see in Bones. (Spoiler alert, I'm going to assemble him a little later. ) But for now, here he is straight out of the blister: As we've done with our previous WIP posts, I will be tackling this guy with my method of painting for display and I'll do my best to take y'all through all of the steps that I go through from start to finish and share my thoughts with you as I go along. As always, please feel free to comment or ask questions - I'm always glad to help out in whatever way I can along the way. I'll try not to take too many blurry pictures....but no promises.
  8. Bryan's thread is fun, so I totally stole the idea. And anyway, as the Official Forum Mascot it seemed a good way for people to get to know me better. And see what cannot be unseen, learn what cannot be unlearned. I think somebody suggested this long ago, even. Anyway, have at it. (answers may be "based on a troo story")
  9. As the title says, help @buglips*the*goblin my friend was unpacking his hobby room stuff from a move and came across a sealed case of GW Foundation paint dated 2007. I thought I'd ask if there was anything you could suggest in helping restore them if they've separated or what not.
  10. Hello fine people (and other assorted things) of the Reaper forum! Continuing in our project of teaming up to show you two different methods to go about painting the same miniature, Buglips and I decided that we would do a WIP thread for Con Crud, Convention Zombie from the 2017 Reapercon swag bag! He's a great little figure, sculpted by Gene Van Horne, that we thought we could have some fun with. This will be our second shared WIP thread in this series of ours, in case you missed it, check out our first one where we painted Thanis the Bonecaller: As with that one, I will be covering my usual method of painting for display, and Buglips will be approaching the figure with his own usual "fast-but-decent method." As with the last one, Buglips' method will be much faster than mine will be and you'll get to see where our two styles diverge. We will be sharing our own issues, thoughts and methods with you in the hopes that someone will find such things useful. So on to the mini! Here's my Con Crud, fresh out of his blister: I prepped him in my usual way, with some diamond files to grind off the mold lines and bit of flash that you can see on his outstretched foot and hand. He has some notable mold lines through his hair and back and down the left (his left) side of his face. I'll show you throughout the process how I'll tackle those. So here he is after I primed him with Reaper's Brush-On Primer in white, thinned down with some water. As usual, I only did one thin coat so as not to obscure the details on him and I took a couple of additional shots from different angles so you can see some of the mold lines that I'll need to work on a little more down the road.
  11. Not gonna lie, I'm really nervous about this one. I may be making a terrible mistake, but I am going to be attempting to paint this giant 5 headed dragon in 7 days with a size 0 brush while working my usual work schedule that tends to run around 56 hours. I will have a 3 day weekend to end it out, but I originally wanted to take a solid week off to do this, but my work situation may be changing in the next couple of months - nothing bad, mind you, but I might not have as much time off as I have in previous years and I'd rather not wait until the holidays to see how things shake out. Let's be real here, doing this particular challenge while working a 56 hour week is not just crazy, it's stupid. But it's what I have to work with and I am probably both crazy and stupid. I have the added complication that we are probably going to get a lot of throw off rain coming over from Harvey and my area does flood, so I may lose even more hours if I get stuck at the office or stuck in the grocery parking lot waiting for the water to go down. Or the power could go out and I will have to paint by candlelight. Everybody keep your fingers crossed for me that such things will not occur. So here's my version of the roolz. If you're new to the 7 day challenges, take my version only as an amusing thing to read and check out the Official rules here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69639-7-day-goblin-challenge-official-rules/ 1) Thou shalt not use any brush larger than a standard size 0. 0 shall be the number on the brush, and the number on the brush shall be 0. 1 shalt thou not use, neither use thou 2, excepting that thou ensures that it is actually 0/2 on the brush. 5 is right out. Once the size 0, being the correct number, be reached, then lobbest thy size 0 brush towards thy foe, who being made of Bones, shall be painted. 2) 7 full days (168 consecutive hours) from when the timer starts are all the time that is allowed in this challenge; whether that time is spent working, sleeping, painting or sobbing uncontrollably is up to the participant. The timer starts with the posting of a picture of all of the many pieces of Ma'al Drakar and the intended brush(es) to be used and a device bearing the participant's local time. The challenge will therefore end at the same time 7 days (168 consecutive hours) later or whenever the task is declared as completed prior to time running out, or whenever the participant should happen to pass out and/or expire. 3) All visible areas must be painted, and all paint must be applied with a regulation brush. Putting a blindfold on oneself in an attempt to bypass this rule will not work. 4) Boiling to correct warpage and scrubbing the model to remove casting residue are the only prep tasks allowed prior to the timer being started. Removing mold lines, greenstuffing or otherwise altering the original sculpt in any way beyond factory spec is prohibited and way not cool, man. 5) All pieces as included in the box set at retail must be painted. This means no pretending that you aesthetically prefer a 4 headed dragon and thus cut off one of the heads to avoid painting it. 6) Each participant must declare in their thread title that it is an attempt at completing a 7 day challenge so that the organizer can make note of the participant's valiant effort and the rest of the community can watch the fascinating downward spiral into insanity. 7) After declaration of completion, the participant will have 2 hours to submit their official entry photos in the Official Entries thread. Up to 5 pictures per entry may be submitted. Failure to submit photos within the given 2 hour period may result in a sudden onset of spontaneous human combustion. It is not appropriate to include pictures of oneself in the official entries thread, not only would that be strange, but everyone knows that cameras steal your soul. 8) Failure to complete the Goblin Challenge in the allotted time may result in the participant becoming a goblin themselves, although in rare cases, the participant may have the option of completing a labyrinth in 13 hours to avoid this penalty. The inclusion of a singing referee in too-tight pants in this additional penalty round is, unfortunately, no longer an option. The participant waves all responsibility of the challenge organizer should they fail and thus become a goblin, or should they lose their head or other various body parts, become trapped in an oubliette forever, or find themselves plagued by an eternal stench. I will be starting approximately 8 hours from now, or whenever I manage to get home from work. Oh and by the way, I haven't been able to get myself to paint very much for the past few months. Hell of a way to force oneself back into painting, isn't it?
  12. For those of you unfamiliar with Goblin Painting Challenges, started by our very own @buglips*the*goblin, here is a link to the Kaladrax thread that started it all: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/51269-kaladrax-in-seven-days-buglips-is-crazy-wip . For this Challenge, I will be painting up Ma'al Drakar in 7 days, using no brushes larger than a size 0. The rules are posted below: I will be starting my Challenge at 1:00 PM Pacific Daylight Time on August 2nd 2017 (link here). EDIT: If you want to skip all of the talky stuff, here's the link to my completion picture. EDIT: And here's the link to the final entry pictures. Let the insanity begin!!! Huzzah! --OneBoot :D
  13. So to go along with the Goblin Leader that is the hangout mini of the month for April, I decided to do a companion Xvart... He is a Gobbo from the Ben Seins sculpts, but I thought his head looked a little bare, so after cutting off the broccoli, I decided to sculpt a 'Stahlhelm' on his head.... first layer of putty.... Should I sculpt Jackboots too??? Thoughts and comments welcome!
  14. Sooooo.... I did this little thing last week... no big deal, just painted DDS2 in 7 days with nothing larger than a size 0 brush. WIP is here if you missed it: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/72422-guindyloo-vs-dds2-in-7-days/ I pulled it out of the pantry to take a few extra pictures......so it's a lot of pictures. And because it's me, the pictures are terrible. I try, I really do, but I'm just extremely incompetent when it comes to taking pictures. First of all, group shots: Then here are some natural daylight shots that I took between my patio door and curtains. It's frustratingly hard to get true to colour pictures of any kind of green-ish blue and for some reason, I can only get the left side of the dragon's face to show properly in regular daylight. I don't know why I can't get the right side of the face to show properly. Treasure piles, which were one of the last things that I painted and shockingly, my hands stayed pretty steady for it. And finally some unfortunately terrible pictures of the adventurers: C&C always very, very welcome!
  15. I assume you're all already familiar with the Goblin Challenges, especially since there are 2 other contenders taking on their own challenges right now! Time off from work for me always means it's paint slopping time... I don't know what I'm going to do when I run out of challenges to do. In case you've forgotten the roolz: 1) Thou shalt not use any brush larger than a standard size 0. 0 shall be the number on the brush, and the number on the brush shall be 0. 1 shalt thou not use, neither use thou 2, excepting that thou ensures that it is actually 0/2 on the brush. 3) Boiling and scrubbing the model to remove casting residue are the only prep tasks allowed prior to the timer being started. Removing mold lines, greenstuffing or otherwise altering the original sculpt in any way beyond factory spec is prohibited. 4) The timer starts with the posting of a picture of DDS2 and my intended brush(es) to be used and a device bearing my local time. The challenge will therefore end at the same time 7 days (168 consecutive hours) later or whenever I complete the task prior to time running out. This is going to hurt a lot and I'm not absolutely certain that I'm going to be able to finish in time since I am not in any way, shape or form a speed painter, despite my past challenge victories. I've got the full 7 days at my disposal though and a giant case of energy drinks so I'm going to give it my best and try very hard not to get caught up in spending a billion hours on the adventurers like I would normally do. I'll be starting somewhere around 12-ish hours from now... so I should probably go and unbox DDS2 now.
  16. It's time for yet another bonechilling show-off, as I torture your eyeballs with the fresh horrors that have crawled off my worktable. You ready? Hold on to your butts! First, a Reaper Anhurian: And a Reaper Barrow Rat: And a Reaper Jalinrix (linked for nudity): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v249/themizmenace/jalinrix_zps52rnh1mw.jpg A Ral Partha Female Fighter: A Ral Partha TSR Frost Giant: Some Ral Partha TSR Dretches: Some Ral Partha TSR Hamatula: A Ral Partha TSR Marid: Two Ral Partha Crucible... hellhounds or something. I just call 'em Mucnhy and Crunchy: A Reaper Stone Lurker: A Reaper Skeleton (who REALLY loves his job): And this little thing:
  17. Recently (Monday evening) I completed my first 7 day Goblin Challenge, following the guidelines put forth by our resident Goblin Buglips here. I'd booked a week off (Tuesday to Tuesday, for silly work reasons) and figured I'd try doing Khanjira before even considering the soonTM to come 5 Heads in 7 Days. So, with a fist full of Size 0 brushes in hand, I set off. Little did I know that fate would throw just about every delay causing event in the book at me, I managed to complete it with 28 minutes to spare (and was only half an hour late for D&D). You can read all about it over in the WIP. Khanjira is too big for my normal photo setup so I had to improvise.... He was actually pretty fun to paint, and I'll definitely consider doing another challenge at some point.
  18. It's time! (Well, not right now, but a little bit later it will be....you know). I'm starting a week of stay-cation tonight (our on-call schedule is Tuesday to Tuesday. is it a pain for vacations, yes, but it avoids all the Monday holiday switching stuff....) and as my only real plan was to not be at work I thought it was time I got in on the, umm, fun? that is the 7 day Goblin Challenge. My opponent for the week will be Khanjira, the supposed World Breaker (honestly, I dropped him and he barely even cracked the world, hardly a scratch). Here is a candid shot of him relaxing in the hot tub yesterday....doesn't look so tough to me.... Official start time will be sometime this evening, when we get back from the office Christmas tree lighting and fireworks. (That's right, I'm kicking off my 7 day challenge with fireworks!! )
  19. That's right, an unknown with maybe 3 painted minis to his name is going to attempt the blasphemy of following in the footsteps of buglips*the*goblin and OneBoot! As a refresher, here's a link to the original challenge: http://forum.reaperm...ps-is-crazy-wip I will be following the same rules buglips followed in his challenge (plus some Christmas bagpipes the whole way because how is that not distracting?): 1) Only using a standard Size 0 brush since that was all he had. 2) I will work on Kaladrax for 168 consecutive hours (7 days) 3) The only prep time I've done is to wash and boil Kally 4) This post's timestamp marks my beginning and the time I should hit next week for my ending All paints will be from the Reaper Kickstarter collections as that's all I have! Hopefully I won't crash and burn or disappoint! Should be entertaining for you though watching me squirm and realize that badness I've signed up for. Should have finished putting sealer on my shoji screens instead this week... Here goes a week nothing!
  20. May you survive the yearly birthday attack and squash the rumour that I may or may not have started that if one of your limbs is cut off, you can count the rings inside to see how old you are!
  21. Welcome, welcome, one and all, to the very first Purple Cat Challenge! Most of you are probably familiar by now with the 7 day Goblin Challenge; the one where you can only use brushes Size 0 or smaller, and being kinda crazy is a common prerequisite. If you haven't heard of this madness before, here's the official rules, and here's where the insanity all began. Now, after completing two of them, I've become rather fond of these challenges, and how they've stretched me to my limits and beyond as a painter. Something I've definitely noticed, though, is that while the Goblin Challenges are Legendary Feats (not exaggerating), they may never be feasible for responsible folks with jobs and families and what-not. So, this fact, plus buglips' attempt to paint Cthulhu in 2 days, plus my realization that there are other cool BIG minis that need painting, all crashed into each other and resulted in...a mess. But! What came out of that mess was the idea of the Purple Cat Challenge. This will consist of smaller BIG minis that will still be challenging to complete in 5 days, but are both more affordable and hopefully more approachable to those not able to devote a solid week to tiny brushes and sanity loss. Mashaaf will be the first, and I can confirm that Cthulhu will be the second. I have a good idea of the other models I'd like to include, but would like to paint them up first to determine whether they are good candidates or not. I don't have as much painting experience as buglips, so my initial assessment of whether a model would be a good challenge may be off, and I'd hate for someone to try one only to have it be ridiculously easy or impossibly difficult. :) SO! Without further ado, here are Da Roolz*: 1. You may use no brushes larger than Size 0. As Size 0 can vary by company and brand, the average bristle dimensions are 10mm long by 1mm wide. When selecting brushes, try to be as close to this guideline as possible. 2. You have 5 full days to complete from your posted start time (including a picture with a time stamp from a phone or computer screen is helpful to establish this) to complete the model. 3. All visible areas must be painted, and all paint must be applied with a regulation brush. 4. No drilling, filing, mold line removal or other prepwork is permitted before start time. The only preparation allowed is to dry fit your pieces to make sure the model is complete, and do any boiling and reshaping necessary to correct warpage and return the model to "factory spec". You may also clean the pieces with soap and water. 5. All pieces as included in the box set at retail must be painted. This would include, for example, the 5 adventurer figures included with Dragons Don't Share 2. 6. You must declare in your thread title that you are doing a 5-day challenge (ex: Mashaaf in 5 Days; Cthulhu in 5 Days). This way your thread gets noticed as a challenge so I can watch the fun and make arrangements for the prize** if you succeed. 7. Eligible models for the challenge are: Mashaaf, Cthulhu. More will be added as eligibility is determined. *Essentially, the Purple Cat Challenge roolz are exactly the same as the Goblin Challenge roolz, save for the models that are allowed (currently only Mashaaf and Cthulhu), and that the participant will have FIVE days instead of seven. **NOTE: Any (non-monetary, unaffiliated with Reaper) completion prizes will be contingent on availability and finances. I will at the very least mail you a pretty certificate. Let's get this party started! EDIT: If you'd like to skip to the end, here is the completion picture: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/71342-introducing-the-purple-cat-challenge-mashaaf-in-5-days-wip/?p=1458351 Huzzah! --OneBoot :D
  22. If you or someone you know might be crazy, please check out the Official Goblin Challenge thread: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69639-7-day-goblin-challenge-official-rules It's doctor recommended and tastes great! Four day weekend means it's paint slopping time! In case you've forgotten the roolz and are too lazy to go to the link above, I'll repeat my version of them because I know clicking things is hard. 1) Thou shalt not use any brush larger than a standard size 0. 0 shall be the number on the brush, and the number on the brush shall be 0. 1 shalt thou not use, neither use thou 2, excepting that thou ensures that it is actually 0/2 on the brush. 3) Boiling and scrubbing the model to remove casting residue are the only prep tasks allowed prior to the timer being started. Removing mold lines, greenstuffing or otherwise altering the original sculpt in any way beyond factory spec is prohibited. 4) The timer starts with the posting of a picture of Khanjira and my intended brush(es) to be used and a device bearing my local time. The challenge will therefore end at the same time 7 days (168 consecutive hours) later or whenever I complete the task prior to time running out. Well, because I'm so awesome at life, I have done zero of the allowed prep work. My desk is a mess, with most of my paint bottles spread out all over it instead of in their racks, I've not even completely taken Khanjira out of the packaging, much less dry-fit or scrubbed or boiled him. Oh and I'm at work right now and will be for the next 8 or so hours. This is just one of those times where you know you've got nothin' to lose, but, you know, yolo. So if I've done none of that, then what have I done to prepare myself, you ask? Well, I have thought a lot about the paint scheme. Here are some inspiration pictures: Welcome to the show.
  23. Laaaaaadies and Geeeeeeeeeentlemen!!! Welcome to the Epic 7-day Challenge Khanjira battle: OneBoot vs. Buglips! OneBoot issued the Challenge! Buglips accepted! They will be following the standard rules! (Rules reposted here for clarity) 1. You may use no brushes larger than Size 0. As Size 0 can vary by company and brand, the average bristle dimensions are 10mm long by 1mm wide. When selecting brushes, try to be as close to this guideline as possible. 2. You have 7 full days to complete from your posted start time (including a picture with a time stamp from a phone or computer screen is helpful to establish this) to complete the model. 3. 24. Okay! I now have the paints I will require, as well as the superglue and the brushes!! On Tuesday morning I will be starting my own Kaladrax Reborn challenge! The rules I shall be following are the standard. 1: No brushes will be used that are larger than a standard size 0. Also no airbrushing or finger painting is permitted!! 2: I will have seven days from my posted start time to finish the work. This will be established with a photo showing date and time on my computer screen. 3: All parts of the miniature will be fully painted. Again, all paint will be applied using a brush no larger than a size 0. 4: No prep work will be done to the miniature before the start time beyond washing, dry-fitting, and possibly boiling to correct warpage. 5: All items that come in the retail box must be painted. In this case it is all of Kaladrax and his base. I think that is the full rules for a Kaladrax challenge! My starting pic will also have images of the brushes I will use. Oh, one last thing.. My Kaladrax will NOT be painted as a Dracolich/Ravener.. I plan on making him a Wyrmwraith, as I have not seen anyone do him as one yet. :) Ok, pre-game chatter will be more than welcome!!
  25. If you're not familiar by now with the Goblin Challenge, then please go to Buglips' original thread where he first slayed Kaladrax: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/51269-kaladrax-in-seven-days-buglips-is-crazy-wip Then you're definitely going to want to see where OneBoot rose to the occasion and slayed the beast as well: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/68762-oneboot-is-crazy-too-kaladrax-in-7-days-wip/page-1 Well, as First Lady-thing and Buglips' other different favourite, I feel that it's my duty to take up the challenge as well - besides, I need to know for sure whether taking on Ma'aldrakar is actually feasible for me to try or not since I won't be able to take off a full week from work on short notice to tackle him right after the holidays. So the only way for me to do a goblin challenge is while working for at least part of it - I'm at work as I type this and have been since early this morning. I'll also be working about 10 hour days tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday. Fortunately, I have one shot, or one opportunity here with the 4th of July weekend giving me an already planned 4 day weekend where I was going to be painting anyway. The Roolz: 1) Thou shalt not use any brush larger than a standard size 0. 0 shall be the number on the brush, and the number on the brush shall be 0. 1 shalt thou not use, neither use thou 2, excepting that thou ensures that it is actually 0/2 on the brush. 3) Boiling and scrubbing the model to remove casting residue are the only prep tasks allowed prior to the timer being started. Removing mold lines, greenstuffing or otherwise altering the original sculpt in any way beyond factory spec is prohibited. 4) The timer starts with the posting of a picture of Kaladrax and my intended brush(es) to be used and a device bearing my local time. The challenge will therefore end at the same time 7 days (168 consecutive hours) later. I spent yesterday putting together my new paint racks, organizing and cleaning my desk so I have a fresh start to my working space and then doing a dry fit to make sure I had all of Kaladrax's parts, boiling the parts that bothered me (probably poorly) and giving him a good scrub down. Mmm, just like mom's spaghetti. I will begin this evening as soon as I'm home from work and ready to go - probably around 7pm CST. Note: I may or may not log onto the google hangout while working on Kaladrax. As fond of you people as I am, I may not be in a talking mood or may need to zone out listening to music instead of trying to pay attention to and/or participate in a conversation. Don't be too disappointed, I'll be doing audio only anyway. If you see me on the hangout and I don't respond, or I randomly mute myself or drop out entirely without warning, (so, you know, just like any other night...) please don't take offense. It's my understanding that this challenge is going to be particularly mentally grueling and frustrating at times, so I don't want to take that out on anyone else.
