  1. Hi, Here is my take on the Terran Naginata in Bones from CAV SO I'm finding myself struggling in getting a somewhat realistic army paint job (homogeneous with few colours) while keeping the model interesting to look at with contrast... I still haven't figured out a good recipe. But here is what I came up with.
  2. Finished the first of my CAV Bones Kickstarter. This is a tabletop quality piece but I thought I'd share. The Red is the Rach Red that was in the kickstarter with a Secret Weapon soft body black wash. I used RMSHD Dirty Grey and Army Painter White for the freehand and turrent launcher. RMS Troll Shadow was used for the treads and wheels with soft body black and P3 Pig Iron for the gun barrel and metal details on the wheels. Its not super detailed but will look good for gaming use and is easily touched up if needed. Pics...
  3. This is the very first CAV mech I did. It's from the Kickstarter ACE rewards. The models that I just received with the rest of the fulfillment have keyed joints everywhere, but these original ones have a lot of motion in them, which Is kind of cool if you ask me.
  4. Here are two CAV Dictators I finished painting up, in honor of the CAV Kickstarter fulfillment completing (...never mind I've had these since the early Ace level shipping....) I figured a pair of Dictators would be a good starting point since that's what the quick start rules calls for, and the Dictator is easily one of my favorite CAV models. I have a real hard time photographing orange/red like this. For some reason, my camera tends to blow the color out too much. Oh well, you'll have to believe me the shadows/lining are a bit more pronounced in person.
  5. Not really pleased with my CAV guys, can't get them to look like I have in my head =/ But, done for now, and at least they have colour on them :( The Heavy Bolter guy is done, with my first attempt at freehanding a luna wolf symbol on his shoulder. Hopefully I'll get better. At least it sorta looks ...doglike. Right? And the big grey guy's the dreadnought, which I also tried to do the symbol on, bit easier maybe because his shoulder's flat. I am probably going to go back and add weathering when I'm all done, but I haven't figured out that part yet.
  6. I was wondering if there was any traction on the COG team in development? Haven't really heard anything since the update a while back asking folks to send in their email if they were interested.
  7. I finally got around to uploading pictures of my CAV mechs from the KS Ace reward. https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/albums/72157660788240801/with/22756452085/ While I have been painting WW2 and Napoleonic miniatures for almost 20 years, this was my first time painting mechs and I really didn't know where to start. I looked around for other CAV mechs online, as well as Battletech sites, to get inspiration. The other thing I decided to do was make use of the white base color and do them in brighter colors. I'll likely do more camo type schemes when I get the rest of the bones f
  8. Finally getting around to posting this one. It's the last of the four CAV I agreed to paint before I opened it up to anything else I wanted to paint on video. Then again, very low views on these, so I might paint something else next. Who knows. Went with a brown camo scheme on this, so gave it a desert base. Didn't turn out too bad, and it's now up in the display cabinet. And here's the video, should you care to see:
  9. Well, I have been promising myself that I would paint my CAV so I could play with the big stompy robots. However, every time I did a color scheme someone griped about how they were not "appropriate" colors. I like subdued khaki and greens and blacks, and i am no good a camo. (to my mind the concept of camo for a CAV is silly anyway the thing is 45 feet tall and weighs tons, its going to be noticed. I also got a bunch of airbrush colors called ghost tints that i really wanted to play with. The combination proved to be irresistible. I present to you the Jellybean Mercenary team! Ready t
  10. Has anyone got recommendations for terrain of a suitable scale for CAV robots, with a particular focus on buildings? I am told the scale is 10mm, which I am told is about 1/180, or model railroad N scale. There are a lot of readymade and kit model railroad buildings out there, although most of them seem to be smaller and more rural or historical. Are they worth the price? Hydrocal is like plaster, isn't it? So a hydrocal building would be pretty heavy. Styrene, however, sounds a bit fragile. But I don't know; it's not my area of expertise. I have some vision of playing the
  11. I finished off my Nicki Minaj color-themed Specter CAV. This was the third figure I've painted from the CAV Kickstarter. The first video I put up asked my subscribers for input on what color scheme to use. Nobody picked anything, so you can see the result in the second video. I'll not post the first video since it's just me using brown liner over the Bones figure. Now for pictures! And sadly, I forgot to make this part of the video and the initial set of photos, but I did put in one little funny joke on the base. Because it's all about the base, right? Oh, wait. Wrong pop singer.
  12. Not everyone can afford a Dictator, or even a Centipede. On particularly broke worlds, it's all you can do to scavenge up a few of the tougher civilian vehicles, mount a gun on them, maybe a few panels of plasteel you "borrowed" from the building site, and hope for the best. I threw together the following vehicles to represent such ragtag units. Be warned: fragile!
  13. Here are the first of 2 sets of Power Armored Infantry for my Malvernis force. These are also a simple tabletop job though I couldn't resist adding the unit marking on them and making one base have a medic. These guys painted up really quickly and are surprisingly detailed for their size.
  14. Go a bunch of minis painted up yesterday so I thought I'd share them. Here is my Malvernis Butcher for CAV SO. This is an all metal figure not BONES. It's a simple tabletop job as I plan to rule the galaxy with these.

    Data Cards

So here is the idea: I believe it was Girot(¿) who post some download link for Data card for the Terrain and Rach CAV's. I have the two downloads but am hoping we will keep up this trend. I was also want to shoot the idea over to REAPER to make their down (smaller) data cards that would fit into a Playing card sheet protector (picture below). Girot's(¿) do and that is what I like about them. Dont get me wrong, I really like the cards with the picture of the CAV but in the end the conveniences of having the CAV taken off and it reduced down to "baseball card" size would be awesome.
  16. WIP thread here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/56226-01407-dana-murphy/ Dana Murphy is my first attempt at a larger scale miniature. She was a lot of fun, but also a lot of work. I really wanted to get her done for ReaperCon, so I had to rush a bit at the end. I made quite a few mistakes, but I also learned a lot about painting at a larger scale. I hope to paint up at least one at this scale before next year's ReaperCon. Convenient, since I bought two candidates at the con itself. Dana, including pedestal Closer-ups of Dana
  17. Here we have Dana Murphy, which I plan to enter in the Year of the Giants contest and hopefully Spaceship Superstar if I can get her done in time. The face is basecoated + wash, the eyes are done, and I put down the yellow base coat of her jumpsuit. I will be giving her a yellow and black color scheme.
  18. I actually got 2 finished this weekend! This is the Specter from my growing Malverins force. So far, I can field one of each specialty...
  19. I managed to further my malvernis force. They now comprise the majority of my finished CAV models. Here is the Assassin finished. I just forgot to add the facing lines on the base. Here's the pics...
  20. Here is my finished Rach Dictator. A simple tabletop job as all of my CAV's will be since I plan on them getting playtime. As always, Comments and Criticisms welcome.
  21. Here is the start of my Malvernis force. I really like how this came out. I still need to figure out a name for this force though. As always, Comments & Criticisms are welcome!
  22. So this is the first CAV miniature I've finished in, uh, well, like fourteen or fifteen years! I noticed it's "no longer used in CAV and being rescaled" so I can only hope my spur of the moment purchase over at Reaper wasn't in vain! At any rate, it's sporting the scheme I'm going to use for the unit I've decided to try and paint for, the 25th Legion. While I'm going to work at having a decal done for the unit, the hand painted Terran insignia will have to do for now. I liked the idea of going with a U.S. military desert tan, but tossing in the sci-fi element with the teal/turquoise. Turr
  23. I'm going to try to have completed Dingo pictures tonight if I can, but the Starhawk needs some more highlighting and basing. Tsuiseki has some more work ahead of it... ignore the battletech tanks in the background! :) Scheme is my "custom" scheme for the 25th Legion, the Steel Magpies
  24. So, I've been thinking about painting some of my CAV in a camouflage pattern. I've got an airbrush (though haven't tried using it yet), and was thinking I'd find a digicamo stencil in about the right pixel range. Then I saw the CAV art work in the book and had a thought. Turns out that someone makes a hex camo stencil set (Anarchy Models, they did a KS a while back and are still around and selling online). However, I wasn't quite sure how big their hexes were and how well they'd translate to CAV's scale (They look a bit too big). Does anyone have experience with these stencils?
  25. These are two kitbashes I assembled years ago that have been languishing in the Limbo of my parents' house until the day I live close enough to retrieve all of my hobby stuff. I visited briefly last week and had a chance to grab a few quick pictures to share. The first is a substitute for the RMI Bishop, which (apologies to James Burrell) has some of the ugliest arms in the CAV range. I filled in the leg-spaces on a Spider body and mounted it on Sabertooth legs. Then I removed the side missile packs and replaced them with a pair of the Warden's GGC turret. The second is intended as a
