  1. A few nights ago I managed to get a game of CAV in with MiniAddict and is son at Texas Toy Solider in Carrollton, TX. Because of the three player nature we were faced with, his son and I were a team with each of us taking 3k points and MiniAddict taking 6.2k or so points! We set up long ways on the table and the only modification due to the terrain type we had was to play "true line of sight." Our terrain wasn't leveled well as it was more 40k/Fantasy terrain so this seemed to work. Forces were all "mercenary forces" by the rules due to composition/unit types" Templar Mercenari
  2. CAV Unit Brief SyRaM Starhawk VI To kick off my first tactical unit run down, I’m going to focus on the Terran Starhawk VI. Each faction has a heavy CAV that I rate as the premium combatant of the force that combines the best speed to armor to firepower to threat value in a package that is truly a superiority CAV. The Starhawk VI is the Terran’s superiority attack CAV in all regards! Lets take a closer look at this unit. Nuts and Bolts I always start off by looking at a unit’s speed and armor. I feel that it gives a good picture as to what the
  3. Sharing the love, spreading the word - got my CAV II KS today! So. Many. Robots. Much stomp. Many gauss. Amaze.
  4. 1) Will these 12 new paints (73400-73411) be available for normal retail sale at some point? 2) They claim to be HD paints, but they have white caps. What's up with that? 3) Is there any chance of being able to purchase black caps for Reaper paint bottles? I could find only white caps in the store.
  5. Are there still plans for a new Journal of Recognition or a similar manual? I would love to see something like this as part of the next Kickstarter.
  6. Well here it is part the 66th Legion of the UTF ready for deployment Stored away in a purpose build wooden box with steel paper bottom (all Cavs have magnetic sheet on bases) Been fun sharing the progress of the army and has been a good incentive to keep it going. If your interested heres the thread as I did each batch with some close ups of each type of Cav regards '66'
  7. I won this figure at Adepticon last weekend, by playing the daily events. I don't usually use orange as a primary color (I'm trying it out for Adon CAVs) so this was a bit experimental. Hopefully it turned out well. Most of the paints are Reaper MSP, others noted. Colors used: Body - Game Color beasty brown (base), Citadel earthshade (wash), MSP fire orange (drybrush), MSP sun yellow (highlight) Scales - MSP forest green (base), MSP muddy olive (drybrush), Game Color camouflage green Cockpit - MSP black wash (
  8. This general line of questioning came up around our table when we started firing overcharged PBGs at one another and, inevitably, started rolling some "burnouts," that is, overheats (1 on 1D6) and weapon failures (snakeyes). As previously discussed in a different thread, we know that if I go "out of ammo" when firing a Salvo, then the entire weapon system is shut down, e.g. if my Chancellor fires all 4 MACs and runs out of ammo, then all four MACs are disabled. I infer, then, that if I fire those four MACs individually (we call this a "volley"), then if I run out of ammo for one, then
  9. With just under a week until the cargo ship carrying the Kickstarter II minis arrives in San Pedro (and just over a week until they hopefully arrive in Dallas), I figured it was time to release this:
  10. Re-purposing this post to give SS updates. Name Has PM'd Info Wip Photo Posted (Due 12/1/2017) Shipped / Delivered @emmagine Yes Yes Yes / Yes @CAVBOSS Yes Yes Yes / No @Weird-O Yes Yes Yes / No @Ma
  11. Reading the thread below gave me the idea to organize a friendly 'KitBash' competition. Something like... everyone chooses a CAV and converts it in some meaningful way. Competition runs for a calendar month. We post a before and after image and then @CAVBOSS picks the winner(s). Just something fun to do really... Any interest...? Now that the CAV Secret Santa is winding down I'd be happy to manage the little bit of 'admin' the contest would require. J--
  12. Wishing everyone a safe and successful 2018!
  13. So, signed up for the CAV Secret Santa exchange over in the CAV subforums, and needed to put up WIP pictures etc. But why do pictures when you can do video, eh?! If you're in on the CAV Secret Santa, you can click the spoilers below to see the pictures and video as well, but you'll, uh, be spoiling it for you if you're the one on my list. And you could be. But maybe you aren't.
  14. Hi all, Been working on a CAV Dictator for the secret santa exchange, and wanted to use it to not only explore rach color schemes, but also to continue to develop my skills with edge highlighting and blending (canopy). I am really happy with how it came out, though I still need a lot of practice. Brush control is getting better but is still far from perfect! Obviously still needs a base; C&C welcome!
  15. So I've completed my CAV:SO Christmas Exchange piece and thought I'd post it here. I'm using my "speed painting" technique thats cut down my paint time for desert jobs at the moment. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out and pleased with my new photo set up.
  16. Hi all, I just finished a CAV dictator and went to put him on his standard hex base, when I realized his "bones" base is too large. I have already painted and sealed it and was wondering what the best way to remove the base was to minimize damage?
  17. Started working on a Terran Thunderbird, and I don't have pictures yet. But it's really not much more then primed at this point. I'm going to do a woodlands camo pattern I think, so I based the whole thing with a sandy tan color and did the dark lining on it. A friend of mine that Talespinner knows as "my pretend friend Rick" suggested that I start with the lightest color which makes sense. I used the brown liner to do the dark lining. Question is what to do next, should I paint most of it green and leave parts tan, and then paint the brown parts, and then finally bl
  18. Hi all, It has been a really busy year for me, between moving across the country, starting a new job, finding a place to live, getting married, major surgery for the missus, and evacuating/rebuilding after a major hurricane. Unfortunately, this has left little time for painting- and it’s been driving me nuts! After the wedding a few weeks back, we finally had some time to take a step back and breathe. The wife poked me and said “why don’t you start painting again?” The first thing I picked up was this squad of half-finished Ritterlich Republic cougars I ha
  19. So I have 4 Rach and 4 Terran models assembled and ready to be painted. But I'm wondering about color schemes. I see in the CAV:SO book that a lot of Rach are red with white stripes/accent so I think I may do that. But I'm not sure what to do with the terran's... is OD green/camo the most common or are there other color schemes that are used in the current lore? I mean I could paint them pretty much whatever I want... But I like to have them match the lore, but I'm also not sure I want to do camo (just got done painting a 101st Airborne list for Bolt Action), so if
  20. Some thoughts on The CavCon tournament. The Good: The tournament was well organized. The terrain looked great. Jon and Tim were available to answer questions and explain the reasons behind various decisions at any time. I've never had more one on one time to interact with a game developer ever. Jon went out of his way to walk me though several parts of the game that I didn't understand and he was open to feedback to improve the game for me (and hopefully others). The veteran players Todd Farnholtz, Ross Hines, and Brandon Baker were friendly, open, and available to ex
  21. Don't know who might follow this forum and not be a member of the Reaper/CAV Facebook group but there is a new CAV mini for sale at ReaperCon. It is called a Firedrake and is open to all factions. There are pictures and stats on the Facebook pages. J--
  22. Hi, I found a pack of these little buggers in the 1$ bin of my FLGS. They are 15mm "flames of war" minis (WWII type) and I though I could try to make use of them for my CAV infantry. I just modernized them a bit with some green-stuff goggles (which has the advantage of not making me paint eyes on 15mm minis and match the canopies of my Terran CAV) and did speed paint. Here is the result: They are a bit big for CAV, especially next to a transport vehicle, but they will do for the purpose of the game. Other pic for scale:
  23. After annoying Cavboss (sorry) I finally got signed up for the tournament. Looking forward to meeting some of you there. I have a pile of unpainted Grand Order of the Temple metal CAV piled on my desk that I've worked fairly hard to collect. I plan to play 100% painted. [crosses fingers] I've only played 3 games so far so forgive me when I get stuff wrong. J--
  24. Hey all! Here is a resin master of the new upcoming Cheetah attack CAV! I've painted it in the scheme of the 5th Dornheim Brigade, "Marienburg Dragoons." The forthcoming model will be in the CAV grey bones which also paint up pretty nice!
