  1. Here is the CAV Lion II anti-grav tank from the upcoming kickstarter. This resin master turned out great; the final will be in the grey Bones used by CAV! Scheme is from the 5th Dornheim Brigade, "Marienburg Dragoons." Their tanks are painted a dark grey while the CAVs wear the light blue and black.
  2. Here's a Ritterlich Cataphract attack CAV painted in the 5th Dornheim Brigade's scheme. The Cataphract is available for sale and this is one of the grey bones miniatures from the first kickstarter!
  3. Here is a group of tanks and such I painted for a customer..I think it turned out well.. the color would not have been my choice, but its what makes the customers happy...lol
  4. Getting started on my Cavcon models. Fielding a Templar army from scratch in 2017 is a bit of work. Thanks to @Vil-hatarn and @Watchman for helping me find them. :-] J--
  5. I'm confused by what SA: TAG does in CAV. In the SO rules on page 124-125 it is never clear what a TAG does - at least not to me. In the errata, it says that, "...the attacker may "paint" and fire guided missiles at a designated target during the same combat action." In the SO rules page 113 it says that Guided Missile require either a Target Lock or a TAG in order to fire. In the SO rules page 115 it says that rockets with the'semi-guided' upgrade (page 136) can take advantage of TAG. Here are my questions: Does the TAG confer a Target Lock?
  6. I'm trying parse this paragraph from the rules packet. I think I understand it but as a noob I could use some confirmation. Aircraft, infantry, and vehicle models are not eligible for use during this tournament. We're only allowed to bring CAVs. Bonus points [not allowed] Normally, a force group gets 20% of its threat value pool in points to spend on specializations from Battlefield: upgrades, support assets, support strikes. We don't get any of these points. specialization assets and packages [not allowed] Normally,
  7. I can't find which faction uses the Hedgehog transport in the list of faction vehicles I downloaded from the Talon Games site. Can someone explain to me who can use it? Thanks! J--
  8. I searched the forum and tried to find an answer to my question(s) before posting but could not. I'm not sure what the accepted policy is on quoting the rules in the forums so if I've broken a rule please forgive me. In the CAV:SO book page 57 bullet point 3 under Field Notes says that a Target Lock is required before a Guided Missile is fired or it will auto-miss - [paraphrased] The CAV: Errata says to replace the third paragraph (by which I think they mean bullet point) with a paragraph that includes this line: "The target-lock action can be used by a mode
  9. I only see 54 models available for CAV on the Reaper Minis CAV page. A casual search of the internet shows most second hand sources offering the same set of miniatures. I'd really like to paint a Grand Order of the Temple force but there don't seem to be enough minis available to make one. Am I missing something? Is there a source for the other models? Perhaps for the older metal models..? Thanks! J--
  10. I also painted this guy a while ago. just now getting pictures up of some of what I've been working on. It's legs aren't actually glued on, just tight fitting enough to stay on their own so I just left them like that for now.
  11. I'd like to start off with a big "THANK YOU!" to CAVBOSS for all the goodies to give away and the slick, color advertising booklets for CAV. They made it really easy to show people where to go for more information, see the model pricing (everyone marveled at how affordable it was to make an army!), and get a copy of the quick-start rules. On top of that, it was great to be able to say that a force construction program, status markers, data cards, errata, etc. were all available for free from the game's main site. This is a huge plus, in my opinion. Many thanks to Troy (squatwarl
  12. One little trick I picked up quite some time ago was to make a nail polish water bath. One can swirl together different colors, then apply it to a model to get interesting affects. I'd tried it on a couple of sprues of Bones material, but never was inspired to actually use the technique. This last weekend, I was shopping with the family and wandered into Hot Topic, where they had several interesting nail polishes. And so, I bought three different bottles, but I'll be using only one of them here, a red and black mottled polish in clear. Let's start with the basics. A completely unwashed, u
  13. Could someone clarify a few items related to mortars? While described as "active-homing", I can't find anything that states mortars require a target lock or TAG like guided missiles do. Is a target lock required? I think the answer is yes. Does TAG work with mortars, similar to guided missiles? If a target lock isn't required like guided missiles, do mortars use only a target point roll? A strike point roll would seem out of place for an IF attack without an AoE. Thanks!
  14. I was looking over my collection of fabulous CAV models yesterday, and I had a thought regarding force organization (though the trigger was in fact reading CAVBoss's update in which he specifically called the Dervish an "attack" role CAV, but that's kind of beside the point): I noticed after looking over my Ritterlich CAVs that I have a radically disproportionate number of recon and fire support CAVs, making it rather difficult to build a viable force within the force org rules. In fact, without a house rule, I have no variety in my core force - it's always rhino + cataphract + something e
  15. I have always loved the power and the stats of the Thunderbird CAV, but I have never liked the split cockpit design... It always looked like a weird mech/Troll without a head. So, a while back I decided to perform a little surgery on my giant hunk of metal T-Bird. **I stole the cockpit off of an old plastic space fighter mini I had in a parts box. It fit perfectly between the existing cockpit bumps on the CAV, and then added two anti personnel MGs to hide the old canopies. I also want the gun arms to stand little farther out from the CAV, so it would look less compact and squeezed in, and
  16. Some of you may remember the worksheet I created during the first Kickstarter. As someone new to CAV, I made it to help myself understand a little about force construction and to plan my purchases in the Pledge Manager. It helped me a lot and some others also seemed to benefit as well. I have been working on revising the sheet for CAV: Strike Operations II. I am not 100% confident that there aren't mistakes but I'm putting it out there for review. As always, error reporting is really helpful and constructive criticism is welcome. A few notes: The Colors on the model list are irr
  17. Hi everyone! It's been a while since I have posted something, but here we go! I have decided to take a break from my terrans and try something new. There were several new techniques I had been wanting to try, including camouflage, washes, and edging. I also wanted more practice with OSL and jeweling now that I had purchased some Matte medium. I had been going back and forth about how I wanted to paint my ritterlich force, when I came across this wonderfully painted starship fleet over at triple zero painting: https://triplezeropainting.com/category/spaceship-miniatures/brigade-mo
  18. Got mah dingos done just now so I can move them off the painting table finally lol They're gonna sit up on my shelf with my Starhawk and infantry for now.
  19. This is a Mercenary Force that Mastergunz and I collaborated to create called Crimson Thunder. I slightly modified a scheme I saw in In Combat: Painting Mecha by Mig Jimenez and friends and ran with it. This is the first product of that scheme, a Bones material Katana. I cut the arms at the "elbows" to pen them and fix an issue with the material (bent and wouldn't boil out.) A pin and a little superglue later and it's good as new!
  20. Hey all - I haven't been painting as much the last few weeks since school is back in session, and that means I've suddenly gotten very busy. But I did manage to put aside all the usual hassles a couple nights ago and paint up a few Rach fighters! The paint scheme is the same as my usual Rach force: the Khaki triad mainly, purple accents, and then a blood red cockpit. The big difference between my fighters and others you might see on any other CAV table is that mine are well above the ground. I wanted to give my fliers the bird's-eye view they deserve, so I mounted them on heavy washer
  21. Hi all, I did it! I finally finished painting my CAV Terran Force, which means that all of the CAVs I own (and got from the 1st Kickstarter) now have some paint on! Woohoo !!!! Well that will last only until I receive the goodies from the 2nd KS. Simba: Ronin: Katana: The complete force group shot: And finally, I couldn't resist to stage and take a pic of an epic GDI Vs NOD (eh... i meant Terran Vs Rach) face-off. I thought it would be a nice way to wrap up this painting adventure.
  22. Hi, The nice feedback on the previous post motivated me to get a few more Big Stompy Robots painted for my CAV Terran Force. Here are the Starhwak VI, Archer and a pair of Regent. Still using my quick army-tabletop-quality recipe to stay homogeneous with the rest of my models. Starhawk VI: Archer: Regent: And the incremental group shot of the Terran Force:
  23. Hi all, I found a bit more time to continue my quest of getting all my CAV Terran from the 1st Kickstarter painted. Here are the Talon, Nightshade and Tsuiseki painted to a speedpaint-tabletop-army standard. They may not be worthy of a Show-off, but posting here keeps me motivated in getting them done. Talon: Nightshade: Tsuiseki: And the incremental force group shot:
  24. I'm attempting to gather some squad composition questions into a single thread. From the rules: Attack squads consist of 4-6 CAV and/or Vehicles. SA: Bulky counts a model as two models when determining squad size Faction doctrines are available only if all models in a force are from the same faction During KS2, a few questions related to squad composition were answered by CAVBOSS: Q: <Reference to some force composition charts> A: ... A CAV/Vehicle squad must have 4-6 models which vary depending on what faction you are or if you choose to go non-faction (merc, pirate, corp security,
  25. About this model: The 1/60 Despot was designed and built by John Bear Ross, under license from Reaper, back around 2003 in a limited run. I don't remember the exact number but I want to say there were only 100 made. It is a combination of resin and metal parts and requires quite a bit of assembly before I can start painting. The tank treads look to be the most difficult part. Before anything more, I want to say that Mike Hardy (aka Black Lightning 2 back in the day) is awesome! I couldn't afford to buy one of these limited edition models when they were released, but several years ago Mike
