  1. Salvete, Amici! Phew ... some time since I wrote that last time ... haha! Well then: Time to feel the might of the Roman Legion, the breast best army of ancient Europe! I planned to be abscent from painting for some time more, but it happened that I got a more or less good reason to start again. A friend of mine who I have known for quite some time now - he is one of the master minds behind some of the Gallia to Arms builds - I decided to make a little present for him. Anyway ... this guy is a great fan of the Roman legion and he even has an 28mm Roman army. He is creating his army a bit in the style of an Asterix Roman army, having bought some of the characters and using them in his force. But he still misses a force commander - and that is where I come into play. On the last Tactica wargaming event, I got a female Roman centurion from the Hot&Dangerous brand and I immediately thought what a great force commander she would make. Alea iacta est! I don't know what would be a better fit - his birthday or christmas - but I can decide that when I am as far as I want to be. But I will not only give the figure to him. Nah - I think this is a great opportunity for me to get back into painting. So I used my social skills to ask about some of his concepts and I think now I have got a good idea of what I have to do. And now it is time to MAKE A GREAT PRESENT AGAIN! Those are all the parts I have got. The lady can either use a mirror or her helmet to check her hair. Really now? I mean ... use one or the other? Nah. Not with me. She will use the mirror, but I will put the helmet in front of her and cut away her arm, so that all parts are on the base. And now for some basing! Valete!
  2. Thread title pretty much sums it up. This is Callus the Renegade from Black Orc’s Hundred Kingdoms, sculpted by Jason Wiebe: There is is a lot going on here, from chain, scale, and plate to all the spangly bits and Things on Belts. Tried to add some variety of color where possible. Not sure what actual colors were worn by Roman soldiers, but red is popular among cosplayers according to Google. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t purple at least. Turns out Dark Elf Skin is a pretty good approximation of actual gorilla flesh. It also seems that brown is not a popular color for actual gorilla fur, but whatever. I was unsure just what that thing in his left hand is, so I imagined it as some sort of monkey-headed scepter, and painted it up in Dragon Copper and Antique Gold. Mostly as an excuse to try out some GW verdigris. I probably miffed the placement, but it’s a neat effect. Very much a “nasty old penny” look. Did I mention this guy is big? Here he is alongside Miss Forscale the Strumpet: Comments and critiques appreciated!
  3. Was bored at work so I started doodling in Bones. I call this kitbash a Bathalian Maw. It's the Primarch with the arms from the Centurion and the mouth from an Erynth Grask. It's to the point of needing a bit of greenstuff to marry the face to the head better. Also might use a second Primarch to extend the torso and give it a second set of arms with the original Primarch arms below the current Centurion ones. If I do I'm likely to borg in part of the second Primarch's tail to lengthen the tail to balance the longer torso. Anyway, it's kept me amused for a half hour or so which was its main purpose. Also, I hate how hard it is to get good photos of unpainted Bones.
  4. I recently started painting miniatures again. These are the first three reaper bones miniatures I did. I hope you like what you see! Since I just picked up my old hobby any comments and critique is much appreciated! I am pretty pleased with the results after not having painted any miniatures for about 10 years
  5. I'd like to guess this one is a hero. She seems to have a pleasant demeanor. However, aren't centurions usually bad guys? Like in movies, and books, and bibles. Whatever, Hero.
  6. Haven't posted any WIP pictures of these, mostly because they were done just for my own fun. But they're finished, so figured I'd show them off a little. These are a Concussion (24518) and a Centurion (24570) behind two Dropzone Commander Juno A1 Infantry Fighting Vehicles. I thought they were tanks, but just did a full name search and I guess they're not. Eh, oh well. Enjoy!
  7. Okay, here's the Cygnaran Centurion for my tale of Warmahordes April entries. I swear, I'm going to have a Warjack every month. Again, with help from my two-year old, I apologize for the photos, and I will attempt for better ones the next chance I get. Front: Back: Shield:
