  1. This is on old Grenadier mage from one of their boxed sets released 40 or so years ago. Table top, like most of my stuff. Gems/spell components in his hand
  2. This is an old Grenadier wood elf from their 'Fantasy Warriors' line. I rescued him from the melt table at Reapercon and finished him up last night. I tried to do some freehand tattooing on his arms; I'm not too sure what I think of how they came out. More practice needed, I think.
  3. I finished my first figure for the year a couple days ago. It's also my first painted dragon. Ever. I'm pretty psyched about getting the eyes to look good on my first try.
  4. Another old Mage Knight orc figure that I converted a while ago (WIP here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/60174-mage-knight-orcs-conversionrepaint/?hl=%2Bmage+%2Bknight+%2Borcs) and finally finished up painting during the paint binge last weekend. Nothing special, just a tabletop paint job; he'll get used along with his buddies in a Song of Blades and Heroes warband, as well as for D&D.
  5. I started this guy last year at Reapercon in the Convert a colossal skeleton class, and entered him into the open category at this year's Reapercon; he earned a bronze. WIP is located here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/62739-colossal-skeleton-conversion-for-reapercon-2016/
  6. Since we're down to a little more than a month to the big show, I figured I ought to start working on some of my stuff, right? I didn't enter anything in the painters category last year, and I'd like to change that this year. I've had this figure for a while now, and I figured a horror themed convention was the perfect excuse to try and paint him. I'm not using that base; it's just to hold the figure up for the picture. I've got a resin scenic base that I'll be mounting him on. As I said, I want to enter this figure in the painters category, so please push me hard on this guy. I like hearing that 'he looks good' or whatever, but if you think he doesn't, or I could do something better, please tell me. C&C is not only welcome, but greatly desired. If you google his name, GW's picture of him should be one of the first few results; that's the paint scheme I'm going with. (Well, mostly.) Black armor with gold/brass trim dark red cape
  7. Like the title says, I'm planning on converting the Bones Colossal Skeleton and entering it at Reapercon next year in the open category. Here's what I'm starting with: I'm planning on the using the cape as, well, a cape. I'm swapping out the hammer for the sword, and I'm going to be grafting that other piece onto his front, over his pelvis. I'm going to be adding a shield to his right arm; I haven't decided if I'm going to remove the dagger or not. Thoughts? I'm also undecided about possibly altering the pose of one or both arms. I'll be sculpting fur across his shoulders to hide the join with the cape, and I'm going to be armoring his torso. I haven't decided if I'm going to do anything to the legs or not. Here's the progress on some chain mail: Not too bad so far, IMO anyway. I'm not 100% sure about that tattered bit at the bottom, though. So, please let me know what you're thinking; any and all C&C will be welcome. I'd like to do the best I possibly can with this. The sculpting is going to be my biggest hurdle; I've never really done any.

  9. Yes, the challenge insanity has gotten me, too. Just not quite as bad....I think. It's also a slightly different variety. I have 50 of these guys: Don't ask me why, I have no idea; I think they've been multiplying in the dark foot locker they were stored in. Anyway, the challenge I have set for myself is this: I will convert 49 of them so that no two are the same. That's right, I'm going to (hopefully) create a small horde of individualized mono-pose plastic goblins. I am going to leave 1 unconverted, for two reasons: 1) I will have an original figure to compare my conversions against. 2) Once the whole group is done I can hide him in there someplace and see if anyone can find him. I suppose you're all gonna want me to paint 'em too, aren't you? Fine, I'll do that, too. The main point of this exercise is the conversion, though; once that's done painting may take a little (lot) longer. What's the time frame, you ask? There isn't one, but it's not going to be years long or anything, either. In fact, I've already started; see below. Let's call it the last day of September for converting and painting to be done. Also, just for kicks, I'm gonna give you all some power over me (just a little, don't get any crazy ideas). You all collectively have 2 vetoes that you may use if you think I'm slacking off and one goblin looks a little too much like another. Some rules about that: 1) The basic pose will be staying (mostly) the same for all of them, so that doesn't count 2) At least 4 people need to agree that a certain gobbo doesn't cut it; I don't want 22 different people all vetoing a different figure. 3) Vetoes only apply to conversions; the paint jobs will be fairly similar in order to help me get through them. So, the first 6 are done: Fur trimmed Hun style helmet, looted human helmet, this was supposed to be a fur cap, but it just looks like hair, so we'll call it hair. Eye patch, mohawk, pirate style do-rag. They all have different shields as well.
  10. I finished up this guy today. Even though I'm working on other stuff, I still find time to sneak in some undead every now and then. Please let me know what you think.
  11. David's post: "Ok, So I didn't want to be that guy that gives news and couldn't produce results. Those who know me I have been a fan of Frank Frazetta since I was about 9 years old looking at the Molly Hatchet record covers at K Mart. I wasn't sure who he was till I was older and by then I was hooked. So no longer in the shadows do I have to do my Death Dealer miniatures, I have the Frazetta contract signed and in hand. The contract as it stands right now is to do 7 Death Dealer miniatures fully licensed. I have the first 5 sculpted and the first production mold of Death Dealer #1 finished. We have had all of the original sculpts approved by Frank Jr and Lori Frazetta. We just need to get the remaining molds done and the packaging approved and they will be available. They will be for sale to begin with from The Frazetta Museum, both on the site and the actual museum as well as on our site and eventually those who are distributers. Here are photos of the first. and I will have more of the others as we have the molds done and working. We hope to have them ready to go by the end of April. they are 32mm, all of them will be multiple part pewter castings with a resin base."
  12. I converted and painted these guys up for Inarah's paint binge this weekend. I tried giving them each a different skin color; I also decided to gore 'em up a bit; they are in order from clean to 'CW, you are a sicko', so you can skip the last few if you want to. Please let me know what you think. Clean ghast---swapped his base for one from Secret Weapon From the looks of those bones, he hasn't eaten in a while. You may want to run... Drooling ghast---swapped his head with a GW zombie head. Bloody handed ghast---I added some clothing to this one Gore hound ghast---I re-positioned his right arm, added some guts, and put a dismembered arm in his left hand Spoilered for the squeamish. >sigh< and I missed few mold lines
  13. The Vampire Literature thread reminded me of this... Back when I was in the Navy and on deployment, we happened to be watching Underworld on the mess decks and it sparked the following poll (6 months at sea will make the weirdest stuff entertaining) If you had a choice, which would you rather be, a vampire or a werewolf, and why? (Those are your only options, not neither, both, or any other monster, just those 2; remember it was based on watching Underworld)
  14. I painted these guys up in about 7 hours over the course of 3 days in the Google hang outs that some members have been doing. I actually find it kind of motivating, being able to hang out with people from the forums, AND paint at the same time. They're all bones figures, and I decided not to boil them; the various (minor) bends/leaning position/etc actually serve to differentiate them a little bit. I also used slightly different color combinations on them to further the effect. I was also able to accomplish the 'glowing, evil, pit of hellfire' effect on their eyes (although the green doesn't show up as well as I would have liked) that all undead have. Please let me know what you think. Group shot:
  15. This is a 10 man squad of Black Legion Chaos Marines made by Games Workshop. I actually started painting them a few years ago, when I still played Warhammer 40k. I haven't played in a couple of editions now, but these guys were begging to get finished up. I chose to do so as part of Inarah's paint binge this weekend. My painting ability has increased since I started these guys; stripping them to completely start over was a consideration, but in the end I just chose to push on and finish them up, trying to fix things along the way. I'm fairly happy with how they turned out; I still have a fair number of these guys left to paint, so I'll have a chance to make the next ones look better. Please let me know what you think. DEATH TO THE FALSE EMPEROR!!!!! Apologies if the pictures aren't that great, I'm experimenting with my wife's new light box.
  16. This is an old Grenadier figure from way back in the dark ages before some of you were even born. I hadn't realized it before I started working on him, but the figure bears a striking resemblance to a very well known religious figure. I hadn't intended it, but I think that resemblance may have subconsciously influenced me in how I painted him. Anyhow, I hope you like him.
  17. Google 'bad squiddo games'. The owner has a very good collection of decently dressed/equipped (no chain mail bikinis here) female characters ranging from fantasy to sci-fi and most things in between. A fair amount of the figures she sells are available elsewhere (she has Reaper stuff), but there are also some sculpts that I've never seen anywhere else. Just thought it may be of interest to folks here.
  18. This is just an old ghast from Bones 1 that I have finally gotten around to. I used him as a paint scheme tester for his brothers from Bones 2, which I'll be converting and painting shortly. I like how he looks overall, but I kinda think his skin tone is a little off; I think he looks too 'alive'. What do you think? Blood and gore were done with a hair, superglue, Tamiya clear red, and Tamiya smoke. I'll go into the process in detail if anyone's interested. C&C welcome.
  19. Welcome to the spring edition of the Box of Goodwill! You may have heard about the fabled 'Box of Goodwill'. Maybe you were involved last time, maybe you're new and would like to see what it's all about. Well, you're in the right place!! Read on: This is the official, soon to be patented sign up thread for round 4. As before, please provide the following info in your replies to this thread: Where you live If you'd be willing to ship internationally (more expensive) If you want to be a box starter (depending on the amount of interest) There has been a minor rules clarification made. There is also a slight change. Even if you were involved in one or both of the previous versions, please make sure you read them carefully. Basically, put some stuff you don't want/will never get to/think other people will find cool into a box and send it to someone else. That recipient will take out whatever interests them, replace a like amount of stuff and ship it to the next person in line. And so on. The last person will send it back to a different coordinator ( the person who originally sent out one of the boxes ). What's allowed: 1)Any miniature 1a) this means any material, any genre, any manufacturer, any subject matter. If you put lead in, please label it somehow (separate baggy or whatever) 2)Anything mini related 2a) bases, basing material (please package this very securely, and label it), terrain, scenic bits, whatever. 3) Free stuff--leftover bits, drawings, etc. Please label these items as 'free' or 'giveaway'. If you want some of this stuff, take it, you don't have to match it. 3a)Please limit the amount of non-miniatures related items to whatever will fit into a standard sized Ziploc sandwich bag if it is bulky. Drawings/sketches take up next to no space at all and don't need to be stuffed into said baggy. 3a-1)Use common sense. Also, if you have some hand-crafted, custom-built shark skin and mithril dice bags or whatever that you're certain everyone will love, PM your coordinator and the folks in your circuit and see what everyone things of the idea. Majority rules. 4) Keep it reasonable; try not to put in anything larger than 54mm. That's gonna eat up a lot of space, and create a lot of 'what's it worth' questions. What's NOT allowed: 1)Paint/liquid 2)Perishable items 3)Exceptionally bulky, non miniature related items. Donate that 7th extra copy of the Player's Handbook to someone that you game with. How it works: A coordinator will put together a box of stuff and send it out to 8-10 people in his/her circuit. When you receive the box, take out whatever you like and replace it with a like amount of stuff. The value of what you replace should be equal to or slightly exceed whatever you take. We're gonna use the honor system here, so it's going to be somewhat subjective. Trades should be on a one-for-one basis, unless you're taking something big, in which case it's one-for-two. For example: If you see 4 orcs that you want, take them and replace them with 4 other roughly man-sized figures. If there's a larger figure (54mm ) that you want, take it, and replace it with either 1 similarly sized figure, or 2 man sized figures. Once you're finished, pack it up and send it to the next person in line. Here are some other specifics: 1)The coordinator will put together a box and start it on it's way. Each coordinator will pm me with the tracking info of the box as it sets out to the first recipient. After this, each recipient will pm the tracking number to their coordinator (the person who started the box) AND the person that they're shipping it to. 2)Participants will publicly announce when they have received the package (pictures would be cool, but aren't mandatory), and again when they send it off to the next person. For example: I received the box o' goodwill from Chaoswolf. When ready to ship, 'I'm sending the box to Pingo'. 2a)Participants will also be responsible for contacting the next person and getting their shipping information. The people involved in any given circuit will be public knowledge, so feel free to exchange shipping info how/whenever you wish. 3)Each participant will have 1 week from the arrival of the box to make their swaps and then send the box on to the next person. 4) For participants in the USA, shipping will be via flat rate boxes. Tracking and insurance are included in the cost. In the event of loss, the person mailing the box will make the insurance claim and use the proceeds to purchase items to fill and ship a replacement box. 5) I'm anticipating roughly 3-4 months for each box to make a complete circuit (8-10 people x 1week per person + travel time). Once all boxes have completed the circuit (returned to the coordinator), we'll open up a new sign up thread and start the process over again if there's interest. Coordinators will need to pm me so I know that all circuits are complete. 6) This will be open to everyone. We have had several people express willingness to run/participate in a circuit for the newer members; I feel that this somewhat offsets any concerns about anyone's 'reliability'. Perhaps I'm a little naive, but the feeling I'm getting from both public posts and pm's is that everyone really seems to want this to work. Newer members are defined as anyone who hasn't been active on the boards for a year,or without at least one completed exchange. 7) Sign ups will end Midnight April 17th (east coast time). There will be a little wiggle room allowed here to allow for different time zones and whatnot. Once I get up the following morning, it's closed. I'll figure out how many people are involved, how many groups there are, who's going to coordinate and post that information in the first post of the chatter thread. 8) Individual coordinators are able to exercise a bit of leeway within their circuit. They will be setting up the initial package, so they can just stuff a box, or do a quick survey of everyone in their circuit to determine preferences. If they want to suggest everyone slap a color on Sir Forscale (or his designated representative), that's up to them. I'm thinking that the coordinators can run things pretty smoothly. If there's a question or concern, hit them up. Coordinators: if you're not sure how to proceed, hit me up and we'll work it out. 9) if something comes up and you need to drop out for whatever reason (life happens), please contact your coordinator as soon as possible so that he/she can make the necessary adjustments. 10)The group paint figure is not mandatory, just a little something extra for those who are so inclined. Also, coordinators please note: we're changing up the way the boxes will end up; you won't be getting your group paint figure back, you'll be getting someone else's. 11) Have fun! Ok, I'm pretty sure I've covered everything. If I missed something, or it's unclear, please bring it up in the chatter thread, or PM me. Don't add it here. Suggestions for a different 'group paint' figure and/or title can go in the chatter thread, too. ETA---I don't want to make any assumptions here. Even if you were in the other rounds, please indicate if you'd like to do round 4. Thanks
  20. Here are a couple of Bones goblins I painted up yesterday. Just a quick tabletop paint job. I did a few minor conversions; detailed them here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/68042-chaos-wolfs-conversion-clinic-pic-heavy-open-topic/ Please let me know what you think.
  21. We're just about to the end of Sir Forscale's travels with the Box of Goodwill for round 3. I've got a few observations, and some questions for you. First off, I think that going forward, we definitely want to try to avoid having this overlap with the holiday season; this round took a heck of a long time to conclude, and I think that might be why. Second, there (seemed to me, at least) were quite a few communications break downs. I know that real life has a way of rearing it's ugly head at the worst possible times, but everyone please try to do your best to send the box on it's merry way within the one week time frame. If you can't, that's cool, life happens, but please drop a quick PM to your box coordinator so that everyone knows what's going on. Ok, questions: 1) Should we try and set this up to happen a finite number of times/year, or just keep it going the way we have been as a more or less constant turn around? (With the exception of avoiding the holiday season) 2) SGHawkins09 is running a basing BoGW (sign up for it, it sounds cool!). Should we slightly change the focus of the box to not have basing stuff, or leave it as is for folks who don't want to sign up for the basing version? (Reasoning for Q2: I don't want to be in competition with SGHawkins09, I think it's really cool of her to take the idea and run with it. Or am I just over-thinking this?) 3) How many boxes are too many? Should I hold off a bit (it's going to be a few more weeks anyway) before starting off round 4? Is it going to be a hassle ( and therefore not fun) to have to deal with possibly getting both boxes at the same time, or very near to each other? Or am I over thinking this one, too? 4) Ub3r_N3rd is stepping down as my helper with this ( round of applause, you were a big help, bud. Thank you). Would anyone like to volunteer to take over for him? It's not a lot of work, especially now as we've gotten most of the wrinkles ironed out. Basically, you'd be there to be a sounding board for any 'brilliant' ideas I come up with, and to help out with answering questions/concerns in the event that I'm out of town or otherwise can't get to them in a timely fashion. So, let me know what you think.
  22. I discovered yesterday that Simple Green works amazingly well to remove the oil/grease/mold release agent/whatever it is that is on resin miniatures/bases/parts. I dipped an old toothbrush in some undiluted SG, and scrubbed for maybe 30 secs, and the piece came out nice and clean, ready for primer/paint. I am doing an experiment to see if diluted (with water) SG will work as well. Results in a few days.
  23. This is a speed painted repaint of an old Mage knight figure; I think it was the 'feral bloodsucker'. It looked like a werebat to me, so that's what he became. I did the figure in perhaps an hour and a half (not including basing, lotta glue and different materials there). I just painted right over the original paint job (there wasn't really much there to begin with). I did this guy while I was waiting for some green stuff to dry on a different project. Please let me know what you think.
  24. This is a group of wraiths made by Grenadier figures many, many years ago. I know that the wraith on the round dirt base is Grenadier; his base says so. The rest I'm not certain about, but they look the same, so I'm making an assumption. If I'm wrong, please let me know and I'll correct this post. There isn't much to say about these guys, there's not really a whole lot there. I tried to make them more interesting by putting more effort into the bases, especially the 'floating' guy; I think that worked out very nicely. Tabletop paint; please let me know what you think.
