  1. Some of us that frequent the Google hang-outs (come check it out, it's quite fun) decided to try doing a 'mini of the month' based on discussion of this particular figure. We have continued doing this, but with Reaper figures since. This guy was the February mini. I'm not late getting him done, the other guys who already finished thiers are over achievers. Anyway, here he is, finally. Painted to at or maybe slightly above table top level. Please let me know what you think. And a couple close ups to prove I did his eyes.
  2. Someone else here had picked up a wooden log cabin kit from Hobby Lobby a while ago and posted it here. I picked one up myself the other day and started to work on it. This is the one I'm talking about. As you can see from the picture, it's not too terribly expensive. This is both good and bad. I'll get to that in a few minutes. This is the basic assembly; it took me about 20 minutes only because a few of the pieces needed to be trimmed a little bit for a good fit. Unfortunately, my kit was missing 2 pieces; there are supposed to be 2 'half logs' that go on the very bottom of the structure to start things off. I thought about going back and complaining, but for the price I paid, I figured it wasn't worth the gas I'd end up using to get there. Besides, this is only a minor challenge; improvise, adapt, and overcome! I'll hide the mistake when I get to the basing part. Since this is intended for use as a gaming piece, I deviated from the instructions and assembled the roof differently so that it would be detachable to put figures inside. I added some toothpicks for extra support/strength. And that's where I am right now.
  3. I finished this guy up on Friday; he's an old Ral Partha thief (if i remember correctly, he came in a 2 or 3 piece blister pack with some of his fellows; I'm pretty sure I've got them around here somewhere). My usual tabletop paintjob; I hope you like him. I'm still experimenting with my pictures; which version looks better?
  4. Welcome to the BoGW chatter thread for round 4! Did everyone like the way we did last round with coordinator 'a' shipping the box out, but having the circuit end with coordinator 'b'? Or would everyone rather go back to coordinator 'a' sending out a box and having it return to him/her at the end of the circuit? And here's the arrival/departure thread: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/68383-the-travels-of-sir-forscale-and-friends-box-of-goodwill-round-4-arrivaldeparture-thread-no-chatter/ Also, if there are any questions, check the first post here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/68158-box-of-goodwill-round-4-sign-up-thread-the-continuing-journey-of-sir-forescale-and-friends/ If that doesn't help, PM your box starter (the bold name at the top of the group that you are in), if they can't help you either, then contact Dilvish or myself. 5. I bought a couple of the new Wizkids figures from my FLGS a week or two ago. They had the whole range, but I wasn't too terribly interested in most of the humanoid figures. The monsters were another story; I got this killer kitty cat and the Griffon. Something about this figure really grabbed me; it jumped straight to the #1 spot on my painting queue. This was a very fast figure to paint; my usual tabletop standard took me about 2 hours. I hope you like it .
  6. I've been on a bit of a Sci-Fi kick recently, so I'm going to be converting and painting up the Bones version of the Nova Corp troops. The original head on this guy has a horrible mold line, so I swapped it with a GW Dark Eldar. Nothing wrong with her head, I just don't like having a bunch of clones, so I'll be giving her a bare head. With new head (from GW Wood Elves). These are the same figure. The one on the left has the head from the female trooper added. The one on the right is the original head; as you can see the detail is lousy, so it got cut off. The head/helmet with the lousy detail from the guy above is now hanging on her belt. These guys have some extra equipment added. One of the guys from above is going to become a sniper. And his rifle, courtesy of a GW Tau. That's all for now, but I have a few more conversions to do before painting starts.
  7. In the cold wastes of the North, the followers of the gods of Chaos gather in their thousands. Hordes of barbaric marauders and armor-clad warriors pour forth from the bleak wastelands to wage war against the soft-bellied wastrels who inhabit the rich lands of the south. Daemonic legions advance with them, proof that the Northmen truly are the favored of the gods. ---taken from the Hordes of Chaos army book by Games Workshop. I've always really liked the aesthetic of GW's old Realm of Chaos range of figures ever since I first found some for sale in an old, off the beaten path (and sadly out of business now) hobby shop way back in my youth. I've been collecting them off and on through the years. (I wish I'd bought more of them when I was younger, they're all OOP and hard to come by now.) I've painted a few of them here and there, but now the time has come for me to start painting them in earnest as a cohesive ( relatively speaking; this is Chaos we're talking about here ) group. I might possibly game with them, which would be nice, but rule of cool is going to outweigh any possible gaming considerations in the assembly/painting of this army. I've got a pretty large collection of old school GW/Marauder/Citadel chaos figures (pics below), but I'm also going to be using figures by other manufacturers (including Reaper) that I think look cool and fit the feel of the army. This is going to be a fairly long running project; I've got A LOT of dudes to paint. I hope you see something that sparks your interest and decide to follow along. I have a few units that I've already finished and posted previously; a unit of Chaos Knights of Khorne: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/59177-gw-chaos-knights-of-khorne/?hl=%2Bkhorne+%2Bknights A unit of Chaos warriors of Nurgle: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/59534-gw-chaos-warriors-of-nurgle/?hl=%2Bnurgle+%2Bwarriors And a few single figures: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/65997-chronopia-elven-axeman/ http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/66394-77065-norgol-irongrave-knight/ And here's (some of) what I'm working with: I also have at least that many Beastmen that I haven't found/unburied yet, and some daemons as well. If you noticed some of the newer plastic Chaos Warriors at the top of some of the pictures don't expect to see very many of them in here; I don't like 'em. The detail is beautiful on them, but they're a little too static and mono-pose for my liking. The older stuff has more character in my opinion.
  8. I think this is an old Citadel barbarian figure that I finished last night. He was actually a 'paint catcher' ( an old/broken figure I keep around to test paint ideas on ) for a while that I decided to actually finish off. He's a little rough, I did him in a couple hours to get myself back into painting after a few weeks of nothing. I hope you like him, he'll be serving as a thug in one of my Frostgrave warbands. I'm also not positive on the manufacturer; please let me know if I'm wrong and I'll correct the post.
  9. This is an old Grenadier models lion-man that I finished the other day. Tabletop as usual. I hope you like him.
  10. This is a Heroclix figure (Lex Corp Security if you're interested) that i got out of a Box of Goodwill. She was a quick and easy repaint, I liked the colors they used, so I just fixed them up so they weren't slopped all over each other. I figure she'll work well in modern, zombie, and possibly near future/ sci-fi games as a secret agent or something like that. I tried to paint her sunglasses to look as though they were reflecting the sky; does it work or does it look lousy? Be honest, please.
  11. So, a bunch of us have decided that we're going to work on the same figure every month on the Google Hangouts. The first one (that spawned the idea) is the old Chainmail Orc Druid. In the future, most of the figures chosen will probably be Reaper. I used part of my day off yesterday to find, and get caught up with, everyone else that's doing this. I decided to go with the stereotypical orcs=green paint scheme. I had 2 excellent reasons for this: 1) The green paint already happened to be out and open, 2) There's this skirmish game called 'Mordheim' where you control a warband that's looting a ruined city. In this game, there is the option to play an orc and goblin warband. I already have half of a warband painted; this guy will be joining the gang once he's done. Of course, I'll use him for other stuff, too. This is what I got done yesterday: reprimed, and basecoat for the skin and teeth.
  12. I finished up Tara the silent, a very cool figure sculpted by Sandra Garrity ( I love her work!) last night. I was super happy with her and quite stoked that I managed to do a very good job on her eyes.... .....until I saw the pictures. They look wonky. I'd swear on a stack of bibles that they looked perfect to me under the best magnification I have. I literally cannot see any way to make them better/fix them, but I hate how they look in the pictures. I know that the camera is everyone's worst enemy (I've said it myself more than once), but I'm almost embarrassed to post these... Please let me know honestly what you think. ...and I just noticed that stray bit of paint on her collar. I'll go fix that now.
  13. This is an old grenadier figure from the 'Fantasy Warriors' range/game. I'm not entirely certain what he's called; he's not in Mirilton's catalogue, so I guess his mold didn't survive. At any rate, I found him again recently and decided to give him some paint. Tabletop work as usual; I hope you like him.
  14. This is an old ChainMail Berserker that I got out of the melt bin at Reapercon. His weapon was broken, so I replaced it with a GW axe from my bits box. I almost painted him up with orange hair like a GW trollslayer, but I've actually got a few of those figures around, so I figured I'd save that paint scheme for them. I gave him a bunch of tribal style tattoos and followed the advice I got on my last tattoos and tried to blend them into the skin a little more. I think it looks better. Now, I just need to actually develop some artistic ability and my tattoos might actually start to look good.
  15. Nothing too special here; just an old Grenadier rune stone/trail marker thing. I haven't based it yet as I'm not sure if i'm going to use it in a diorama or just as random scenery. i think it took about 2 hours altogether to paint.
  16. This is a Heresy miniatures zombie that I got out of a Box of Goodwill. She's supposed to be a modern zombie, but I think she looks simple enough that I could use her in fantasy, too.
  17. This is on old Grenadier mage from one of their boxed sets released 40 or so years ago. Table top, like most of my stuff. Gems/spell components in his hand
  18. This is an old Grenadier wood elf from their 'Fantasy Warriors' line. I rescued him from the melt table at Reapercon and finished him up last night. I tried to do some freehand tattooing on his arms; I'm not too sure what I think of how they came out. More practice needed, I think.
  19. I finished my first figure for the year a couple days ago. It's also my first painted dragon. Ever. I'm pretty psyched about getting the eyes to look good on my first try.
  20. Another old Mage Knight orc figure that I converted a while ago (WIP here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/60174-mage-knight-orcs-conversionrepaint/?hl=%2Bmage+%2Bknight+%2Borcs) and finally finished up painting during the paint binge last weekend. Nothing special, just a tabletop paint job; he'll get used along with his buddies in a Song of Blades and Heroes warband, as well as for D&D.
  21. I started this guy last year at Reapercon in the Convert a colossal skeleton class, and entered him into the open category at this year's Reapercon; he earned a bronze. WIP is located here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/62739-colossal-skeleton-conversion-for-reapercon-2016/
  22. Since we're down to a little more than a month to the big show, I figured I ought to start working on some of my stuff, right? I didn't enter anything in the painters category last year, and I'd like to change that this year. I've had this figure for a while now, and I figured a horror themed convention was the perfect excuse to try and paint him. I'm not using that base; it's just to hold the figure up for the picture. I've got a resin scenic base that I'll be mounting him on. As I said, I want to enter this figure in the painters category, so please push me hard on this guy. I like hearing that 'he looks good' or whatever, but if you think he doesn't, or I could do something better, please tell me. C&C is not only welcome, but greatly desired. If you google his name, GW's picture of him should be one of the first few results; that's the paint scheme I'm going with. (Well, mostly.) Black armor with gold/brass trim dark red cape
  23. Like the title says, I'm planning on converting the Bones Colossal Skeleton and entering it at Reapercon next year in the open category. Here's what I'm starting with: I'm planning on the using the cape as, well, a cape. I'm swapping out the hammer for the sword, and I'm going to be grafting that other piece onto his front, over his pelvis. I'm going to be adding a shield to his right arm; I haven't decided if I'm going to remove the dagger or not. Thoughts? I'm also undecided about possibly altering the pose of one or both arms. I'll be sculpting fur across his shoulders to hide the join with the cape, and I'm going to be armoring his torso. I haven't decided if I'm going to do anything to the legs or not. Here's the progress on some chain mail: Not too bad so far, IMO anyway. I'm not 100% sure about that tattered bit at the bottom, though. So, please let me know what you're thinking; any and all C&C will be welcome. I'd like to do the best I possibly can with this. The sculpting is going to be my biggest hurdle; I've never really done any.

  25. Yes, the challenge insanity has gotten me, too. Just not quite as bad....I think. It's also a slightly different variety. I have 50 of these guys: Don't ask me why, I have no idea; I think they've been multiplying in the dark foot locker they were stored in. Anyway, the challenge I have set for myself is this: I will convert 49 of them so that no two are the same. That's right, I'm going to (hopefully) create a small horde of individualized mono-pose plastic goblins. I am going to leave 1 unconverted, for two reasons: 1) I will have an original figure to compare my conversions against. 2) Once the whole group is done I can hide him in there someplace and see if anyone can find him. I suppose you're all gonna want me to paint 'em too, aren't you? Fine, I'll do that, too. The main point of this exercise is the conversion, though; once that's done painting may take a little (lot) longer. What's the time frame, you ask? There isn't one, but it's not going to be years long or anything, either. In fact, I've already started; see below. Let's call it the last day of September for converting and painting to be done. Also, just for kicks, I'm gonna give you all some power over me (just a little, don't get any crazy ideas). You all collectively have 2 vetoes that you may use if you think I'm slacking off and one goblin looks a little too much like another. Some rules about that: 1) The basic pose will be staying (mostly) the same for all of them, so that doesn't count 2) At least 4 people need to agree that a certain gobbo doesn't cut it; I don't want 22 different people all vetoing a different figure. 3) Vetoes only apply to conversions; the paint jobs will be fairly similar in order to help me get through them. So, the first 6 are done: Fur trimmed Hun style helmet, looted human helmet, this was supposed to be a fur cap, but it just looks like hair, so we'll call it hair. Eye patch, mohawk, pirate style do-rag. They all have different shields as well.
