  1. This is my October Trio for Reaper Challenge League. Khanag the Slayer. As far as scale goes, he could be an ogre or half-giant. Mine was part of the Kickstarter. So it came in pieces. I did the base first. Stone Grey Triad, washes with Nuln Oil, Agrax Earthshade, Biel-Tan Green. The iron shackles are Dragon Black with a few layers mixed with Ashen Blue. Then I did the inside of the cloak. Dragon Black with added Ashen Blue for layers. Then the boots. Russet Brown, added Tanned Leather, washed with Agrax Earthshade, reapplied first mix, then added more Tanned Leather for highlights. Steel NMM next. Blue liner, then Nightmare Black, then mixed Nightmare Black, Tropical Blue, Cloudy Grey. Brighter layers with added Cloudy Grey. Then started adding Dragon white. Final highlight was almost pure Dragon White with a little of the blue mix. Working on the main armor next. “Red Lacquer” with gold trim.
  2. Finished this up for a large group on Reaper’s Discord. I haven’t really posted much in the show off, as I snap these pics prior to clear coating them. And I don’t then dig out the photo lights and backdrop. Anyway, I wanted more earthy tones for his clothes with a full clay-red type of accent. So it’s the Terran Khaki triad for the robes, and Redstone Triad for the accents and hat. I don’t have the Redstone Highlight, so I just mixed HD Dwarf Flesh into Redstone to get some sort of highlight. Looks like I forgot his beard jewelry. I’ll go back and fix that.
  3. Starting on November. Turvyn, Ghostwalkers, 30095. This is my duo for the month. I’m thinking dark: grey, brown. The accents will be the stole and sword and gems with a ghostly blue/aqua. And very pale skin. Like someone who’s always out at night, and picked up a ghost touch sword and armor.
  4. Recently finished this Pathfinder Goblin from Bones I for my trio for September. Now I’m working on my duo. The ghost dwarf king. I primed him in white brush on primer. Then 2-3 coats of Spectral Glow. It’s such a great color.
  5. I already finished terrain for Q2. I had started the Strumpet. Categories I’m working on: Large Group: Townsfolk Strumpet Large Figure: Cave Spider Theme April Showers: Deep Dweller with an acrylic resin on part of the base to look wet. Pop Up: 3 townsfolk Pop Up: Gothic Ritual: Torture equipment with blood spatter. Seasonal: Petey for Deep Dish Pizza Day Heavy Mod: Tree of Despair victim: want to reposition head, ropes, spread legs, gouge out middle and sculpt intestines to look like his torturers eviscerated him.
  6. Here is the first work of the June figs. It’s some impish helper from Bones I Familiar pack. Done with basecoats.
  7. So, I have had a good experience with RCL this year. I came into it late in January, and have already cleared 31 minis. That is almost twice my usual yearly production. Then I thought I knocked it out of the park last year with 50. If I continue this pace I hope to finish 100+ minis this year. My motivation is to plow through Bones I Kickstarter minis. Because I have all my B3/4/5 minis waiting, and just added my pledged Bones 6 stuff to the list! Not including my Quarterlies, here is my planning list for May. Points listed to the left. May 10 Trio Galladon 7 Duo Anval Half Orc Fighter. 5 New Release Old Kobold 4 Theme Scales/Claws - owlbear? 4 Limited Palette - purple, brown, blue-Mummy 3 Monster - Kobold Metal 3 PC - Almaran 1 Freebie-? Ral Partha Kobold
  8. I tried to copy @Wren perfect color scheme for the female efreeti. Worked on her for about a week. Pleased with the outcome. C&C welcome.
  9. Here’s the first new project of 2022. I looked through the forums and saw a few versions of this based on the Redstone Triad. I will try that. I put a few pieces of cobblestone sheet styrene on the base, then flocked with sand. I hope it will look like fragments of an old road when I’m done.
  10. Time for the next in line for Bones I. Aina, Female Valkyrie. I will paint the metal version concurrently. I already pinned the weapon hand on the metal version, and pinned the arm for the shield. I’ll apply the shield later. The Bones version still has a ton of detail, so I suspect these will take a while. Planning Red/Gold for metal version (her shield is a little Romanesque), and Blue/White for the Bones version.
  11. Taking a hiatus on the Mocking Beast. Trying to gain some victory in numbers on my Bonesium Horde. I have completed the beetle swarms, spider swarms, and skeletons without WIP. I’m going to do the goblins now. I plan two batches: one yellow/ochre, and the other tangerine. Some nice “non-Greenskins.” Several of these required boiling. Some are still leaning. The spears are straighter. One of these was the beneficiary of a weapon swap. I had given Danar, Male Assassin 77030 his shield for a spiked shield. In return, we have a dual wielding goblin!
  12. Next in line: 77049, Bones Arthrand Nightblade, Elf Ranger. I tried priming with a 1:1 mix of Blue Liner:White Brush On Primer. There were a few mold lines and casting valleys that showed up. I put a layer of Brush On Sealer on them. We’ll see how that worked.
  13. This one is next in line. He needs a better base. This is a standard Reaper 1 inch base. And a sheet of embossed styrene cobblestone, for model railroading. I superglued it on, trimmed around it with an X-Acto, then sanded it down to 800 grit. Any gap left is going to get the Brush On Sealer treatment to deal with the seam. After this I just superglued the Mocking Beast on. No pin.
  14. I only saw one thread about crackle paste when I searched these forums. So, I’m going to share how it’s going for me. I started with washed and dried 1” and 2” Reaper Bases. I put this garbage on a 2 inch base first. Don’t buy it. I got it at Hobby Lobby at the time because they were out of Folk Art. To be clear, this is Crackle Medium. It is meant to be painted on a primed or rough surface I guess, and painted thin. I put it on kind of thick. It didn’t crackle at all! So, I got a tub of this stuff on Amazon. The directions state “put over a thin layer of PVA glue.” Pfft, who has time for that extra step? Here is the result on a washed but otherwise un prepped set of bases. 1 inch 2 inch. Lousy! So, the surface needs something for crackle paste to work right. This is a 1” base with a thin layer of PVA glue. This is a 1” base with just hitting it with 220 grit sandpaper and washing it again. I also used the 2” base with dried crackle medium on it. Not pictured. This is a 2” base covered in black brush on primer. Here is the result on the 2” base over dried crackle medium. It was hard to get the stuff into a uniform layer, as the medium created a very hydrophobic surface, so the paste slides around too easy.
  15. Since the Eye Beasts are making good progress, getting the next model ready. A suitable Player Character model. Turanil, Male Elf Paladin. The plan is white and red. I’m hoping the peacock comes across as a Phoenix.
  16. I started this to be the BBEG for Dragon's Demand. I really enjoyed painting it. This is my first full dragon miniature painted. I spent a lot of time on it, and I'm pleased with the outcome. I hope you like it. This was my first time using Birch seed pod debris as leaves, and I think they look good. Here is the link to the WIP: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/92764-darcstaar-vs-bones-i-ep-11-shadow-dragon/&tab=comments#comment-1965291 C&C welcome.
  17. Here is my pewter version of the Eyebeast. This is my project going model-by-model down the Bones I Kickstarter rewards images through all my models, and logging them as WIP. And bringing along any pewter versions I have for the ride. WIP Here: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/95874-darcstaar-vs-bones-i-ep-13-eye-beast/ These guys are very rewarding and great practice for eyes. I coated the eyes and mouth with brush on gloss varnish to give it that live, wet, salivating look. Enjoy. C/C Welcome.
  18. Here is my BONES version of the Eye Beast. This is my project going model-by-model down the Bones I Kickstarter rewards images through all my models, and logging them as WIP. And bringing along any pewter versions I have for the ride. 19. This is my most ambitious attempt to date. A mini-campaign I’m running some people through calls for many kobolds of varying colors and classes. I had 12 Kobolds from Bones I, the 4 pack in metal that those were based off of (03064), the metal Leader and Sorcerer (03024), the 12 awesome new kobolds from Bones 4, and a 7 pack (I may have gotten a freebie, I thought I bought a six pack) of kobolds from the Ral Partha TSR Official D&D 2nd Edition line, stamped 1989. That’s a whopping 37 figures. I want to paint tribes from all 5 chromatic factions, and want to have as few duplicate poses per faction possible. The Ral Partha kobolds have a more simian or canine face compared to the more reptilian face of the Reaper models, but I’m still going to fold those into each faction. The Adventure calls out a Cleric (Red) a Ranger, (Green) and a Sorcerer (Green). Those are the only ones with specific art, and I have models representative of each present without need for modification. Also, I am not planning to add to the bases at all. And I want to finish all of this in about a month (unlikely)! Wish me luck!
  20. Here was my entry for the 16th quarterly Reaper Facebook Contest. I was honored to receive an honorable mention. There were dozens of fantastic entries. I wanted to try a white dragon coloration. I have Deathsleet in my queue, so this is a test run. His scales are Dragon White. The ventral surfaces are more of a bone color with Creamy Ivory and Linen White, with Sepia Wash. His dagger is a green NMM. His eyes are gem-like, not lizard pupils. The skirt completes the “triangle of interest” green color. I rebased him on a Micro Arts 30mm Sewer base. I had a lot of fun with this one. I wanted to keep him as a rogue, so I chose a dagger and loot bag from his hand choices. I also painted his armor as leather with some gold NMM. Enjoy.
  21. Another addition from WIP completion. WIP Link here. https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/91014-darcstaar-vs-bones-i-ep-7-kagunk/&tab=comments#comment-1931906 I was going for an Ice Ogre vibe here. Being that he is likely surrounded by frost-resistant and fire-vulnerable enemies, I wanted his shield to be a fire weapon. This has always been a favorite model of mine from BONES I. I hope you like it as much as I do.
  22. This is one of the warband of Orcs from Bones I. I though all of these had a lot of character. I painted them up as light grey-green based on some of the Dungeon Dwellers paint sets. The wood grain inside the shield is freehand. Here is the WIP for the whole group. https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/93235-darcstaar-vs-bones-i-ep-12-orcpocalypse/ If I had it to do over again I’d change the fur colors, because they blend in with the chainmail. Here are the group shots. Enjoy.
  23. Here is the big boss of the Bones I Orc Warband. With all of these Orcs they are shadowed with a purple color. I added some green freckles/sun spots for a little interest. For his shield trophies, I included some skin tones and hair colors that could represent elf, dwarf, human, goblin and undead. The wood planks and boards on the shield are freehand. Kavorgh got a little extra love with the bloodstain on the axe. WIP here: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/93235-darcstaar-vs-bones-i-ep-12-orcpocalypse/ And the group shot. Enjoy.
  24. Here is another of the Orc Warband from Bones I. He had a very bent sword, so I swapped it with one from the Bones III weapon sprue. WIP Here. https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/93235-darcstaar-vs-bones-i-ep-12-orcpocalypse/ And the group shot. Enjoy.
  25. Here is another of the Orc Warband from Bones I. WIP Here. https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/93235-darcstaar-vs-bones-i-ep-12-orcpocalypse/ And the group shot. Enjoy.
