  1. Hi all! These minis were close enough in theme I thought I'd post them together. First up: Demi-lich This simple but effective demilich was completed during a two hour speedpaint on Saturday and then touched up briefly on Sunday morning when I had better light. It isn't perfect (I'm sure I missed a bone or two), but I really like the end result quite a lot; a worthy addition to the collection. These guys are really an understated evil. I'm sure they are so lethal because unlike virtually everything else in D&D they dont telegraph how nasty they are. "Tiny floating skull, big deal" -ZAP! Speaking of tiny floating skulls: Flameskull swarm! I needed a flameskull for LMoP and I naturally went completely overboard. I realize that a swarm of flameskulls this size would be absolutely devastating to nearly any unprepared party. Perfect! FYI I had to scale the files down quite a bit (these are mounted on 15mm, 20mm and 30mm bases), but they are pretty sturdy. I realize going with a standard fire palate on them isn't "canon," but I wanted them to look hot & fiery, and I was already planning on painting the demilich above and I didn't want them to be too similar in style.
  2. It's nearly Halloween. What's spookier than the most infamous meat-grinder dungeon? Personally I think it's an awful module, but we had some fun running 30 kobolds through it ala Kobold Meat Grinder. But opinions aside, I do like the imagery of the classic crawl. So here's a few minis to help populate the dungeon. More Photos and Thoughts below the Spoiler That's all from this set. I felt very inspired by the look of this classic artwork so I figured I'd share it with you here: I'm not sure where it first appeared or who made it, but if you know feel free to share! What kind of art has inspired your mini painting? Feel free to share the inspiration and the results!
  3. The last few weeks have been very busy with very little time or inspiration to paint, as the general lack of posts lately will bear full witness to. As you might imagine, I was going for green magical flames. I struggled with this, and it did not turn out as I had envisioned it. This one I count as a bit of a failure, and I am not at all satisfied with how it turned out. Maybe I will repaint the whole thing at some point but for now I am rather sick of it. At leaast it does look much better IRL on the table than when magnified in photos. Somthing which is a small comfort. The white for "teeth" does not work at all in the pictures and I might just redo that part and leave the rest alone. Or not. The wierd thing is that the white "teeth" are not that bad IRL. But once seen, it cannot be unseen... What is this sorcery?! Gah! Even the captions are uninspired. I should probably just go to bed. 77352 Demi Lich Bones 2 Core set, 2013, from the Expansion set #1 Reaper Miniatures Sculpted by Julie Guthrie Made in Bonesium PVC 30mm base. available from reapermini.com
  4. A pair of Bones figures quickly painted as part of my annual Thanksgiving Paint Binge. Based with white primer and then a layer of one of the Citadel white contrast paints. Went over it with a watered down blue contrast paint, then drybrushed white. Picked out the face and bones with watered down black ink. I think they came out pretty well for almost no effort and they can be used in any game where you need a ghostly or summoned figure. I'm tempted to get more and do them in red as fire spirits.
  5. Managed to completely paint this happy little guy up in short order: Threw the base together last night to cure, but the actual painting time on this one was only a couple hours. I assumed that he’s meant to be floating on magical wisps of etherealness, but lack ethereal-colored paint. However, I have fire and lava colors, so I made it flames. C&C welcome, as always.
