I started painting my ringmaster Sophie last night and put a little more work in tonight. Still working on base coating. I thought I did a really great job with the eyes... then I took a look at my photo. I think the right eye (her left) needs to get redone. Colors used so far: Carnival Purple, Big Top Red, Palamino Gold, Noir Black, Caucasian Flesh

Hello everyone, here are pictures of a special NPC I painted last night. Originally an Aquatic Elf, I converted her to make her a Drow abjurator accompanied by her black fox. I slightly converted 03631, Quoralei from the original model sculpted by Derek Schubert for the Dark Heaven Legends line. I replaced the sea shell she was holding by a spellbook and added a wand in her left hand. The 60048, Fox familiar was sculpted by Julie Guthrie, it's originally the familiar of Feiya the Iconic Witch from the Pathfinder line.

This statuesque demon prince has been on my to paint list for a while. Had fun using non-black blacks on him, skin base is Coal Black (Reaper 9693), highlighted with Coal Black mixed with neutral greys and also Mint Green for the highest highlights. The base cobblestones are Black indigo (Reaper 9603), with Lava Orange (Reaper 9218) as mortar. Also decided to try out the NMM Gold triad, so all the gold is NMM. Reaper 3086 Nephal the Demon Prince in metal.

Here is the Tiefling Sorcerer I just started working on for my next D&D campaign. My lovely wife is a writer and helped me with the backstory. Take a gander at the backstory and let me know what you think if you'd like... Otherwise, just take a look at the figure and follow along. I've been going back and forth with whether or not I should cut his horns off to fit the backstory or not.

Another one of the half-painted minis on my painting station shelf, now done: Looks like she found a shining stone. Not sure if the OSL worked all that well on this mini. So a gnome is basically a hobbit with boots? 03823: Day of the Dead Duchess sculpted by Derek Schubert . I bought this figure a couple of years ago when it first came out but I had a hard time getting a vision of what it should look like. Then someone asked me to paint it for them, so I went searching for inspiration. Turns out, there are a lot of people who dress like this for the festival and there are lots of photos, so here's my interpretation. C&C welcome.

89012: Lem, Iconic Bard sculpted by Derek Schubert. This guy was supposed to be a speed paint, but I got too interested in putting diamond patterns on his clothes.

Haven't had a ton of time to paint this summer but I've managed to get a few things done. I've also been working on my basing. I plan on going back and adding some OSL to Damien but saving that for another day. The Familiar is from GW, cira 1994 and was a fun little guy to paint. C&C welcome and encouraged.

These are a couple of modern undead, Reaper's 03383: Vampire Spawn sculpted by Derek Schubert. I didn't make a WIP thread for them. Question, comments, and critiques are welcome as always.

The second mini from the Layer Up! Learn to Paint Kit, Ingrid the Gnome Thief: A fun little mini. She taught me that I love to overdo shadows. This is very evident on her cape, though glazing did help a little bit. On the bright side, the sculpt has some big, expressive eyes, and I think both came out halfway decent for a change. This one has a fun base, as well. Lots of details to pick out, and the instructions have a neat combo for painting mossy patches that I’ll have to steal for future use. Feedback is appreciated!

Hello all, so here's a mini I've had literally for years and years, probably around the time she was actually released, but didn't get around to painting her up until finishing her a few nights ago. I worked on her at the same time I did another half-orc, which I still have pending. Anyhow, this is Rozmina, the half-orc pirate #3242, sculpted by Derek Schubert. I fell in love with this figure the moment I saw it, but such as life is, never got around to painting her. Too much love, not enough time. She didn't take too long to paint, the longest thing was trying to figure out her actual color scheme. Didn't know what color two do the three pieces of clothing she has on. Once I got that figured out she moved along pretty quickly. She has big, expressive eyes, and I was getting really close to wanting to put the white reflective dot in there, but chickened out at the last moment. I tried to actually do the "whites" of her eyes as a orangy yellow, but I kind of think it made the eyes get lost a bit in her green colored skin. Anyhow, reasonably happy with how she came out, let me know what you think! Thanks! EDIT: so after looking at the eyes and not being so satisfied with them, I worked on them again a little last night and I still can't seem to get a super good picture of them, but here is a bit of an improvement hopefully: I added a little white dot to each eye (the one on the right hand side turned out better than the left) and tried to create a bit more lining around that eye, and a little less around the other eye. Don't know if that makes a difference or not? Once again, it's always being unsatisfied with one's own work....

03398 Liriel Silverlocks Female Elf Bard by Derek Schubert

In a bid to try to improve my photography of my minis, I recently ordered in the Tablewar Macromat set after seeing it on some youtube video. The backgrounds in this set are made out of thin, (neoprene?) rubber-backed mouse mat material of the same type used for tabletop gaming mats. And it all comes in a nifty bag, and disassembles for easy transport and storage. The set arrived yesterday, so now to try it out on some freshly painted minis. Here is the Bones Derro Leader with each background: Warm backdrop Cool backdrop White-to-blue backdrop All taken with my not all that great Panalux compact camera and a white-fluorescent lamp in front. Um. I dont think I did, but I might have moved the light a bit between shots, leading to different angles. Gotta be more careful in future. I think the backgrounds worked very well, much less of the materials texture is to be seen in the pictures compared to the previous background I used (the seascape gaming board-cloth from Dreadfleet!) I think I prefer the cool backgrounds overall effect, at least for this mini. Although the gradient background seems to yield the clearest picture and most true colours. I will need to play around with different exposure times and lighting angles / distance with each background to get the best out of every option. Ah! The white-blue gradient background takes me right back to the 90s Mike McVey era GW miniature pictures! Not necessarily a bad thing. Which do you prefer? I will go with these for now: The Derro was a randomly picked mini to paint. And yet another attempt at greyscale+glazing. Definitely needed shadows & highlights, could definitely do better. I put a bunch of time into this one but I'm not super thrilled with how it came out. That's OK, I have a whole vampire box to play with.

Decided to start playing with the Vampire box Chaoswolf won for me at the auction, and pulled out this fine lady. Mostly just messing around at this point, my blending is terrible and her face is almost embarrassing... But oh well, she's for fun and practice. Definitely have to bring up the highlights a lot more on her armour, she's even darker in person than in the picture once the big bright light is turned off.

This is a mini that I painted up for my sibling for our D&D campaign. Sibling picked all the colors and I did the rest. I plan on doing some freehand on his shield but sibling has yet to decide what to put on it. I finally got my light box up and running, I'm still tweaking with angles and stuff to set things on so things like the front of this one aren't so dark. C&C welcome and appreciated.

The Gray Maiden from Reaper's Pathfinder line. I've had this semipainted for a couple of years now, and I've finally decided to try and finish it. It was a rather quick job. I wish I had more precision to paint the straps on her arm and leg.

This Salim Ghandafar from Reaper's Pathfinder Miniatures rage. I painted him up to represent my character in an ongoing DnD5 game, Yusuf Al-Amin. He's a cleric of Sûne, hence the reds and yellows. I'm very happy with how he turned out but I did screw up the varnashing process and ended up with some frosting which I had to try and fix. I also noticed in the closeup that he has some white spots that I haven't taken care off.

The Little People January Bones Beauty Pageant inspired me to try to paint some of my halflings and gnomes. This one, 77167: Ingrid, Female Gnome, is now done. I tried to do some OSL to make it look like the stone was really glowing, including between her fingers. I painted the base with lights and shadows. I didn't add anything to her except paint.

03698: Tengu Rogue by Derek Schubert This miniatures was done for the miniature Summer Exchange 2015 for Marineal. I tried a new masking technique with this one and used yellow (instense yellow) to back the bands. Colors in, now time for shading The base are two wood disks of different size bought from Hobby Lobby. I then glued them together and used a hole saw to crave out the spot for the MDF base. Greenstuff and sand. Made the large plant and log by hand.

Tengu Rogue: 03698 by Derek Schubert Work-In-Progress for the Tengu Rogue Completed for the 2015 Summer Exchange for Marineal. She requested bright colors. I pushed myself to go bright. Enjoy!

Mildly embarrassed to post this on the heels of Derek's fantastic painting of his own sculpt, haha. But here's my take on his amazing mini. Derek Schubert's Tengu Rogue. I straight up LOVE this mini. I was very happy with how mine turned out, to be honest. I was worried about trying to get something going with his plumage, but my initial impulse to use Nightmare Black worked out pretty well, I think. I mixed some gray in with it to highlight the beak, and I thought it worked out pretty well for me. Tried to keep the highlighting on the plumage simple. And I was hellbent to go with white for his top. But, yeah. Pretty happy with him. This was my first time painting on Rust-Oleum camouflage primer (the tan version), and I was pretty stoked about how it took the paint. Only problem, really, was that it doesn't hide my mistakes as well lol. Thanks for looking!

This is my ReaperCon 2015 entry into the Diorama category. I called it "Faithful Stand" and the idea came about when I first saw the praying paladin. It evoked in me an image of him praying to his god or goddess and something bad sneaking up behind him. I then saw the Reaper Artist Con's Ogres and knew that they were what was needed to put this diorama from my mind into reality. The Grey Maiden was the prefect figure for my idea of a statue of the paladin's goddess. Having got caught up in a pretty big funk for a while, I didn't start this project until about 10 days before ReaperCon was to happen. After much work and many hours, I was able to complete it at the deadline the morning I had to leave for the Con. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed working on it! The alcove had long fallen down around her ankles, but she still stood. He took it to be divine intervention and continued to pray to her, he knew that he was the first to do so in this ruined area in well over a century... ​As the paladin prayed to his goddess, Tog and Gog grinned evilly at each other and came out of hiding in the hills and forest to smash the skull and enjoy a nice meal. They rushed forward, froth and drool flying out of their mouths and eagerness in their long strides. Their clubs wound up and... Thank you for looking, C&C are welcomed and greatly appreciated! P.S. I might still (at some point) apply the feedback I received from Michael Proctor (one of the judges) to fix this piece up more, but I'm still undecided at this point so that's why I'm posting pics now.

Back for the January Bones Beauty Contest I painted up a half dozen or so Bones halflings and gnomes (and enough more metal halflings to make a baker's dozen, but they will get shown later). This is Lem, Iconic Bard. I painted his facial expression after a particular mischievous and charming nephew of mine. I played a flute like his in school; the reflections on the flute are all painted on.

Little while back painted Derek Schubert's Koya Mvashti, from the Pathfinder line. I really love this sculpt. It turned into a real festival of colors. I tried playing around with bright and kind of went from there. Had a lot of fun with her. Likely will base her at a later date; apologies for the white tab. Thanks for looking!
