  1. Chronophia War Ogre. Part of my Shifting Sands Project. WIP: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/79372-shifting-sands-glitterwolf-paints-egyptian-undead/page/25/#comments ***************** Travelling through the Desert alone is a bad idea. Hiring a bodyguard is a good idea. Taking a mercenary Ogre as one? Depends, will you be able to feed him for this journey? Because....he WILL eat! ******************
  2. Design: Artisan Guild - Rakshakin Headhunter. Base: Archvillain Games. Part of my Shifting Sands Project: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/79372-shifting-sands-glitterwolf-paints-egyptian-undead/page/25/#comments *************** Wander deep into the Desert and you'll encounter more than you ever hoped for. Undead, Stygian Snakepeople, Nomads, Tomb Raiders and the proud Rakshakin, a fierce race of lionmen. Don't worry, it will be over quick... **************
  3. 3D printed design from Primeval Clash, printed on my Elegoo Mars. Flamefin and Handler ( Dimetrodon and Egyptian Guard) Part of my Shifting Sands Project. WIP here: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/79372-shifting-sands-glitterwolf-paints-egyptian-undead/page/20/#comments Posing on my Temple of Apophis Photobackdrop Board. ***************** Usually when an expedition searches for ancient sites they don't expect those sites to be still inhabited by the original owners. Even less so they expect to encounter a beast from beyond time that these people seem to use as guard dogs.
  4. 3D Design from GloomyKid Miniatures printed on my Elegoo Mars. Inix. Part of the Shifting Sands Project. WIP HERE: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/79372-shifting-sands-glitterwolf-paints-egyptian-undead/page/20/#comments ******************* There are many strange creatures wandering about in the Desert, some seek their shelter in abandoned ruins. Beware the traveller who might stumble on such a beast! ******************
  5. So for my Shifting Sands Project I would like a photobackdrop like I did for my Lost World. Sort of a little diorama/terrain piece on its own but also a nice backdrop. I'll present to you: The Temple of Apophis ( or Apep) the Forbidden God. Nobody in his right mind would worship the Suneater, or would they? Start and some shuffling around with pieces to get ideas. I already have some stuff in mind, still possible to change/add stuff. Printing the Artisan Guild Snake Statues that go with that altar as we speak. Need more of those braziers, and I will print up some Egyptian torches, maybe columns etc... Now! KNEEL before Apophis!!!
  6. Hello everyone, here are pictures of the biggest small dragon I ever painted. 03651 Storm Dragon Hatchling sculpted by Kevin Williams. This is the metal version of the model, it is mounted on a 74033, 40mm round base. The final highlight on the upper part of the wings is 09294 Alien Goo and 09408 Candlelight Yellow.
  7. This is a 3D printed miniature from Rocketpig Miniatures which I printed on the Elegoo Mars. Part of my Shifting Sands Project. WIP Here: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/79372-shifting-sands-glitterwolf-paints-egyptian-undead/ What did you say? You don't know the answer to my riddle? How unfortunate...!
  8. 3D file is from Rocketpig Miniatures, I printed it on the Elegoo Mars. It's now part of my Shifting Sands Project. WIP HERE: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/79372-shifting-sands-glitterwolf-paints-egyptian-undead/page/16/#comments
  9. Hello again. Here's another older paintjob of mine. This is the wyvern from the Bones 4 Core set. My players encountered a flock of Wyverns while traversing a desert valley. They were mounted on Giant Lizards and were chased by the wyverns. What ensued was an Indiana Jones-esque chase complete with daring leaps from mount to mount. All-in-all a good time. As such, I decided to paint this guy up to fit into an arid desert landscape. Had a lot of fun blending the sculpted base into the rest of the base. Also was really proud of the coloration I settled on for the Wyvern. I painted each scale individually, which was time consuming but worth it. I also tried some different glazing and layering techniques to add veining into the wings. Needless to say, I'm pretty proud of this one. Wish I had snagged up Blacksting during the Kickstarter as well though. Will have to get my hands on that one eventually.
  10. So! I'm back. I haven't finished any of my other WIPs lately but I figure one more won't hurt. I'm planning on doing a film noir style desert expedition whereupon our investigators find something not of this world. I'm really excited for this one(not that I'm not excited for all my projects) but I have some hurdles to cross. I want a wall between the white and grey bones, preferably crumbly looking. Not sure where to start with that. Figure out the best way to magnetize things. And the really big one: figure out how to actually paint in the style I'm trying to do. This will involve a lot of work and time. As well as some (maybe a lot of) practice minis. I'm currently in the mock up stage. I've got the minis I want and I'm trying to stage them how I think will look good as well as imagine the wall where I want it. First stages of mock up.
  11. I have been putting together some eastern/desert flavoured monsters (posted separately) and also a band of rangers for the latest mission in Rangers of Shadow Deep, set in the desert. The camels are Reaper Bones. There is a special NPC, Arisien the Royal Cartographer, and I used a Dreadmere figure for him. I have a Privateer Press model of Belit who I painted as a fish out of water Northern barbarian. Then there are two foot soldiers and a Knight. These are plastic kitbashes and a figure from Diehard miniatures. I need to finish off some other minis to round out the team, all Reaper.
  12. I got this one printed by Flying Goat Creations. Thx @ratsmitglied It's part of my Shifting Sands Project WIP here: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/79372-shifting-sands-glitterwolf-paints-egyptian-undead/page/14/#comments I had lots of fun painting her. Hope you like her.
  13. I painted the Reaper Rhino Beetle for my Shifting Sands Project. Used several Metallics on it. WIP HERE: https://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/79372-shifting-sands-glitterwolf-paints-egyptian-undead/page/12/&tab=comments#comment-1944089 Pics with basic background and fancy Desert background.
  14. Private Chapman has been in stasis for 1,538 days and awake for two. Private Chapman is wondering where she is, when she is and what her mission is. Private Chapman is also pondering why she hasn't been issued desert pattern armour. Private Chapman has just spotted something up ahead. Private Chapman's life expectancy is four minutes. (Again, sorry about the photos which were taken on my phone.)
  15. Among my first minis finished in 2019 are the Crew from/for Frostgrave: Ghost Archipelago. I did two themed builds, plus a generic sailor who was left over. The Warriors of the Steppes. They were done with a Cossack theme, and they all use official FG Crew bodies/arms, with heads from Warhammer kits (Chaos Marauder Horsemen, Empire Archers, maybe another) The Warriors of the Desert. They were built entirely from the FG Crew sprue. The lone generic Crewman Crunch.
  16. Greetings! I envisaged the prarie tick queen as a monstrous bloodsucker so I gave her a red bloated body. The markings on the body are meant to be blood vessels inside her but I think I made them too dark. Thanks for looking!!
  17. This was an impulse buy for me 'cause I don't play Pathfinder, but the Reaper range has a lot of really cool mini's. From what I understand, the Scribbler is an incarnation or possessed by an ancient evil God, so I gave him some "psycho" eyes (ie Iris only touching the lower part of the eyeball). Tried to make a desert base, but put far too much grass on it. Thanks for looking.
  18. Hi all! Just recently finished painting my first Ral Partha figure: a heavy-armored warrior and a pretty dragon! Getting the pieces to fit together was a bit of a hassle (maybe it was a bad mould?), but after I got that sorted out I decided to go to with a classic blue dragon look. Look at those chompers!!! Used MSP Dragon Blue (29815) for the scales and wings, Sparkling Blue (09104) for the plate scales on the spine, and a mix of the Blonde Triad for the belly scales, horns, and wings. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with this one. Certainly earned a display place on my desk.
  19. I always found deserts to be fascinating habitats. A cursory look will leave you with the impression that it is hell on earth: sandstorms, unbearable heat during the day and freezing at nighttime. Yet, the desert is not only home to thousands of plant and animal species, it also has a simple beauty to it, dominated by the shapes the wind forms. They are thus a worthy subject for the modeler and can provide an atmospheric backdrop for our games. The exploits of the Crusaders come to mind as well as the cultures inhabiting Northern Africa, for instance the ancient Numidians. I made a number of arid terrain pieces, but this time I will show you two desert lakes or oases that are slowly drying out. Using a similar technique I also built a partially dry river bed, with only a small stream of water remaining. I will provide you with short step-by-step instructions how to make a cracked lake or river bed, but if you want to know more you can also check out a longer tutorial on my blog (given this is not a full tutorial here I put it in the show off section). The build is pretty straight forward: 1. First we use XPS or foam board to define the lake bed. 2. We apply the crackle paste. 3. We cover everything with filler or modelling paste 4. We embed the magnets/steel tacks. 5. We add sand and animal tracks. 6. We apply a basecoat and drybrush. 7. We add some brushes and a water effect. 8. We make the barren tree and add it as a final touch. A more detailed how-to can be found on DaggerAndBrush: https://daggerandbrush.wordpress.com/2018/01/19/mirage-making-a-dry-desert-lake-or-oasis/
  20. So I've completed my CAV:SO Christmas Exchange piece and thought I'd post it here. I'm using my "speed painting" technique thats cut down my paint time for desert jobs at the moment. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out and pleased with my new photo set up.
  21. I bought the Golden crackle paste medium instead of going out to buy the GW crackle paint... but so far no crackles in my test swatches. I'm hoping some people here have tried Golden before and have any tips. Do I need a base coat? Glue on the bottom? Thicker layers? Does it need the full 3 days to dry & cure even for small terrain pieces? I'm hoping to be able to just use what I already have, but I might be able to buy some Agrellan earth this weekend if the Golden doesn't work. Or if there are any good crackle paints for a dry desert texture I could find at Joann's or Michael's or Blick. Thanks! :)
  22. This is the wise and brave street urchin, Parilli, the Shining Company's ertwhile guide in the city of Tephu in the Pathfinder Mummy's Mask Adventure Path. This is my second Bones mini, and I'm a convert. Speaking of conversion, Bones make weapon swaps and mods super easy. I removed his blade and drilled a hole through his hand, cut the studs off his armor, filed his fuzzy feet smooth, and based him with green stuff and sand. After sealing him, I added an actual twig as a camel stick/wooden sword he uses to emulate his hero, Zekir Safakin, the Sword of the Dawn, paladin of Sarenrae. I really enjoyed the simplicity of the sculpt and the limited palette, and had a good time with the stripes. His WIP is here. Please share any comments and/or constructive criticism.
  23. I picture this fellow camped out on the sea floor. Here it is with a little primer on it. I'm thinking about a pink/purple color scheme.
  24. A friend of mine know that I scratchbuilt gaming terrain & buildings in (10mm, 15mm & 28mm), so he gave me a blister pack of these (10mm) Warmaster figures. After some thoughts & concept drawing ideas...I came up with the idea of doing a dune encounter based loosely on the movie (Dune). I had the worm creatures in my parts box...so this is the finished product.
  25. About twenty years or so ago a game came out that I fell in love with, a game that touched my inner Ork and spoke to me in a nice simple language that I could easily understand. A game of Orks and vehicles, white knuckle speed and vicious combat, mutants and huge explosions all set in an arid desert wasteland. What's not to love, right!?!? That game is GORKAMORKA! Anyway, my son, who is younger than the game by a few months, recently watched a few videos of the game on the mwg youtube channel and decided "Hey Dad, we should play a Gorkamorka campaign." "We have no terrain or vehicles for the game anymore." I said calmly, trying to hide my interest and excitement thinking this would just make the subject go away because even though I love the game, this immediately raised a red flag of me building a ton of terrain and vehicles while everyone else just got to play in the end. "We would literally have to build everything we needed. So unless you are going to help with every single step along the way, its not happening." I figured that would be the end of it because he is not a big fan of the building process, just the playing process. There was a VERY brief moment of silence and then, "Okay....what would we have to do?" We sat down that night with the books, looked at game pics and desert pics on the web, watched some of the videos on youtube from the mwg guys and made a list of scenery that we would need to play the game. Flash forward about two weeks to two days ago when we find ourselves in one of the local home improvement stores and end up coming home with most of what we need as far as the main supplies go. Two 2' x 4' x 1/4" sheets of mdf and one 4' x 8' x 1" sheet of insulation foam. That night we laid out the rough ideas we had for the two cliff faces, this took quite a while actually as I kept going back and forth between depth of protrusion onto the board and playability. I wanted them to not take up too much room but still have enough space on top to maneuver small and medium vehicles while larger ones may only be able to go in a straight line. Each cliff also needed a single ramp for vehicle access. The following day we sketched out the bases for the rest of the larger terrain pieces. I had to remind him that we didn't want to waste the material so we needed to cram as much as we can onto each board. Today we were both off so we decided to spend it working on terrain. First thing we needed to do was to cut out all the bases. An extra piece of mdf from an old project was also turned into a dune. Next we laid out all the bases onto the foam and traced all the shapes, making sure we had enough space to get everything on took some rearranging but we managed it. By a very huge bit of dumb luck when I scored the sheet of foam and broke it in two, so we could get it in the van and home, I made one piece slightly larger than the other. While at the time I was a little bit upset at myself for not bringing a tape measure, this ended up working perfectly. I am not sure had it ended up in exactly half that we would have been able to get everything on the two sheets half sheets. We then cut out all the foam shapes and laid them out onto their respective bases to see what we ended up with. And the extra dune. The space shown is a 4' x 4' chunk of the game table, I think we did pretty good on not wasting the mdf. The bases without foam are not getting a full level, just a small ring around the edge and will represent the tar pits, mine and chem pool. The dunes were all attached to their bases with liquid nails, weighed down and left to dry for the night. That's where we are now, not too bad for one day really. We both had fun and he is already talking about getting a trukk and chopping it up to make it into a lower riding trukk to run over my grots...because I guess that is what I am playing again...probably, I like the little underdogs.
