  1. It started last year, when stonehaven offered a feathered dinosaur and a frog knight. I decided to make a diorama of one of my wife's fav jokes. Since it involved a library, it would be perfect for her to keep on her desk at work. the frog knight didn't work out, so I got a different frog from reaper. I got as far as priming, and starting a base-coat on the "chicken". In December, kicked the project into high gear. WIP The Joke
  2. Hi all, Crazy idea that has been floating around my noggin for months now is finally starting to come together. Never done anything like this before so we'll see where this leads. Cinder, with gaps filled with green stuff. Her legs are a little bent so I can't quite attach her to her base so I'll use the terrain and pin her where she needs to be. Cinder, 2 hatchlings, some quail eggs and tree bark (rocks) for some of the landscaping. Plan is to have to eggs sitting on a pile of treasure. Going to hit Michael's to see if I can find a suitable base for it otherwise I'll be using cutting something out of some MDF for the base. I had thought to make this "tiered" and have an adventurer climbing up in search of the treasure but I decided to reign myself in as it's my first diorama attempt. Thanks for looking.
  3. So things were a little rushed in getting this finished a week ago, and I never did have the time to do a proper show off... And as final assembly didn't happen until Thursday afternoon..... and the results.... Thanks for all the fun, comments and following along with this!!!!!! George Forgot to link the WiP.....
  4. As I have been working almost exclusively on my diorama project, I have not been posting 'Finished' pictures of the models here.. So now that I have finished the 4 PC types I have decided to post them here. I give you Xanathar the Beholder's 4 'Councillors'... Slan Thurbal: (Decided that I don't have time to change HIS left hand....) Slink Monkester: Ott Steeltoes: Shindia Darkeyes: Group Shot: An approximation of their positions in the diorama, with a Intellect Devourer added... Thanks for looking! And for all those cheering me on, a one time use Gaze Reflection Dweomer! George
  5. A little while ago I purchased Hasslefree's "Fairies Wear Boots" piece. The Gothic Punk like Fairy stomps on candy. Now I kept thinking that it would be fun to have her chasing little Imps and stomp those into the ground. So I got me some little familairs and stuff from Reaper. Then Malefacus ( Al) send me a wonderful Mushroom he sculpted. To top things off, Knarthex ( George) send me some stuff including a nice oval wooden plinth. Thinking about it all, I realised I now have the ingredients to start on this piece. The Idea is the Fairy chases Imps and Stomps a few into the ground. Maybe she swallowed a growth potion or something. Now she can finally have her revenge on those pesky Imps! The Mushroom watches the whole scene in horror. I will not use all these Imps/Demons, but I will take my pick which will suit the scene best. To complement the large Shroom, I will include some smaller resin mushrooms. Painting will follow later, but here are the ingredients:
  6. Okay prepare for lengthy thought..... (Before it dies of neglect and loneliness....) Whilst on the hangouts over this weekend, the old "dungeon romps" that we used to do in these threads was mentioned, I believe by Adept Legacy. As we batted the Idea around, we wondered if people would be interested in painting up their "Forum Personae" for use in a diorama. It would go something like this, (Maybe) People find a mini that they feel represents them self in their "forum personae" IE A Drow Elf for myself, the axe toting Barbarian with an INT dump stat for Ub3r, a Jedi Hamster for David B, etc (you folks get the idea!) and paint it up by ReaperCon 2017. (That would give us over a year.....) Someone (Some group?) that builds terrain, and lives close enough to Reaper HQ to be able to transport it there, could build some dungeon terrain of various sorts to place all of the minis on as our erratic, eclectic, eccentric adventuring party..... (Hopefully with a mushroom patch or two.... ) (Size to be determined by number of folks that 'sign up') Everyone brings (or mails for those that can't attend) their contribution to the thing, and it is set up there for us all to look and smile and remember things.... Then, everything gets donated to Reaper for display in their corporate HQ, as a THANK YOU! from all of us for hosting such a wonderful Insane Asylum forum for us all to play in..... Would anyone be interested in doing something like this????? And does Reaper have a place that they could display it? Maybe it could become a yearly thing, that new folks bring "Themselves" to add in, and if folks change their personae, they could change their mini too! I can only imagine some of the possibilities.... (Certain 'people' sneaking and peeking from air vents for example.....) George
  7. Right. This project has been kicking my butt, but I'ma gonna kick it back! The idea originally was to use Monique from the master series minis range and do something involving a bunch of critters attacking on her command. I gave up on that because I didn't feeling like that much sculpting. Then I remembered I also had Magnus. Hmmmn, I thought. I do love that Dire Straits song "Romeo and Juliet" I can just see the scene now... ...finds a convenient streetlight (check, I can make that), steps out of the shade (oooh, paint a backdrop doorway?) and says... well, you know how it goes. So, the downside is Magnus is a teeny bit smaller than Monique. Never fear, I said. I can just do some forced perspective, move him more to the foreground and up on a set of steps and put some vines/plants in front of Monique to make her look smaller. I'll also do some fun contrast with the colors and OSL on him to make him stand out more. That'll work. What this has done though, is made me work with a larger space than I wanted and do a heck of a lot of styrene scenery. sigh. Plus, his sword? Not very romantic to be holding a sword while courting. I can sculpt a little heart shaped box of chocolates though. Hmmmn. At any rate, enough talk. Pics! instead of the bouquet I'll probably just do a single rose and have the bouquet at her feet. You can see the size issue. Also, let me just say, it would have been so much easier for me to resculpt his face first. I spent about 2 hours trying to get the expression changed into the dopey almost-tangled smoulder and ended up carving off his eyebrows in the process. It'll pass, but I still need to fiddle with it. this was my first mock-up and sketch for the background. Behind him I'll paint a doorway and wall. I set the pillar of evil in place of Magnus since he's less fully painted. see my cute chocolate box? That was fun to make. The lantern I made out of styrene and spent the rest of the weekend getting the glue off my fingers. kindof the plan anyway. But I'm not liking the background at all. I knew it just wasn't right. so I re-planned as I painted. I'll add in a fence in the background with gravestone and some ruins. Much spookier. The only thing I'm not set on is the tree right now. I'll need to change the shape and move it back father and put something else in the foreground. But i'm using the same colors for her mini. I'm debating taking all the brushstrokes out and making it smooth versus my typical style which is to be much looser and more impressionistic. Right now it's all just sketched in with paint. I'll say on composition for pieces like this, I think about the flat space as having a fore, middle and background. Most paintings divide these up not completely evenly. I tend to put a "horizon" either significantly under or just a bit under the center of the space, leaving my fore and middle ground to share less than half the real estate. I think this balances nicely for the most part. Anyway, more soon. I'm going to try to make significant progress this weekend.
  8. Greetings! I finally finished my mini diorama featuring a classic Goblin Chieftain's Chariot (FTG13) citadel miniature from "the olden days". I had a lot of fun painting & creating this & I learned some new things along the way. If you would like to see how it was created, the WIP can be found here. Thanks for looking, comments & critiques are always welcome!
  9. Need somewhere to keep my dwarf army. Thought to build LED underground small garrison fort/outpost. Will have 4 floors Magnetized bottom floor for large models And will try to stuff as much detail as I can. Began with a wooden simple frame, and 2" PinkFoam. Was debating to build up all details and then paint it at once, or paint it in pieces and install them into the box as I go. Do to the nature of the LED lighting, and much uncertainties with LED lighting, I decided to craft it piece by piece instead of all at once. Also, I do not have a good way to cover very large, hard to get to, very detailed area with coats of paint very efficiently, thus will take slower path. Have some plans how to dress up the outside but want to leave that part for last.
  10. Hello guys. (First time here) Building small diorama with a Tiik and Mudcroaks. I also have Spikeshells and more Tiiks alongside big Kallaguk. Do not know how to arrange them yet, but progress so far. Enjoy.
  11. Hey folks! Just wondering if anyone knows of any decals that can be used to put writing in open books at our 28mm scale.... Doesn't have to be designed specifically for it, it just needs to look like it! Thanks! George
  12. Hey there guys been away for a while due to illness but while convalescing I made this diorama Its the Tin man arriving at the Wizards lair for a heart. However my Wizard of Oz requires Tin man to prove he deserves his heart through combat! Hope you love the diorama and as always comments are wanted and appreciated!
  13. Alright, which one of you was crazy enough to do this!?!?!? http://kotaku.com/look-at-this-amazing-d-d-diorama-1784950148
  14. I want to give my girlfriend's parents a little gift this X-mas ( well a bit before that). So I decided to make a little vignette of the Nativity Set. I found this nice dome for 5 euros.. I had to skip the idea of the three Kings. But my girl explained to me that they visited later, so it wouldn't be a problem to just use the Nativity set itself, a sheperd and a few animals. Else it would get too crowded on the little wooden plate. The Donkey and Oxen are supposed to keep Baby Jesus warm with their breath. So that's why they stand so close. The Cow will be mutilated converted into an Oxen. Here is the set up. I might have to move them a little more forward to close the gap. **** But Herman December is a long time away! Why start now?**** *** Have you noticed how slow I paint?***
  15. When Peaches heard her man had been drinking Jack Daniels and which part of town he was, she took the Warpig and rode like the wind. Is she in time? If not, the Harley is not too blame. This is a Mean Machine... WIP http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/66545-street-violence-by-xherman1964/ DIORAMA http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69093-angel-city-diorama-by-xherman1964-tribute-to-lemmy/?p=1378316 I painted the Motörhead Warpig on it as a tribute. And of course the roads are dirty..so not too clean..
  16. Ladie nr 3 for the diorama. WIP. http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/66545-street-violence-by-xherman1964/ DIORAMA http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69093-angel-city-diorama-by-xherman1964-tribute-to-lemmy/?p=1378316 This one looks all innocent, but who knows what she is carrying in that little bag of hers? EDIT: Oh Reaperbryan...Reaper DOES make redheaded minis...see???

  18. Hi everyone, First of, if this is in the wrong section please feel free to move the topic to the right section, but my guess is this is the right spot. I received an email today from E2046 about the annual contest for figurines, dioramas and robots. I thought to post it here since a lot of real talent is roaming this forum and maybe some of you are interested in joining this competition. Contest http://www.e2046.com/contest/2016/ Rules and regulations http://www.e2046.com/contest/2016/rule/&lang_id=1 I wish everyone who decides to join a lot of fun creating something awesome and good luck!!
  19. This is a diorama I made in 2002. The quality of the painting is not as good as I can do now, but I am still happy with it. The ladies are from Rackham and the beholder is from Ral Partha. The floor and wall were made with hirsts arts blocks.
  20. DAMNED DESOLATION She stood before the undead, calm as a frozen winter lake... the zombies and skeleton advanced, their hungry eyes boring into her own, yet she stood still, her Staff of the Twin Suns raised and a prayer upon her lips... The lead zombie took one more step upon the magical rune and suddenly it and its companions were blown back, the earth erupted and the small canal of sewage rose in response to the divine power that was unleashed by Velicia Torynn, cleric. She shoved them all back against the wall to end their undeath once and for all... She couldn't stop now, she had others to help and other Damned to Desolate... -------------------------------------------- Here we go, I loved the cleric figure so much that I decided to go ahead and build a diorama around her as the star of it. The premise came into my head that she uses Divine Magical Runes of protection and destruction to desolate the undead. Figures: Lady Faelwen Nightsinger (her own show-off for more pics of her is here) Adepticon 2015 Exclusive Sculpted by Patrick Keith of Bombshell Miniatures Zombies are Reaper Bones Zombies Skeleton is Reaper Bones Skeleton Rat is Reaper Rat that I got from the boneyard, so I can't link it now. Crate and Barrel are resin pieces from Oathsworn Miniatures WIP for the figure (and the vignette) C&C are welcomed and greatly appreciated! Thanks for looking
  21. Hi all, the title sounds like the beginning of a bad joke, but I don't have a punchline for it... This diorama was inspired by an old model kit of a Citroën 11cv that I received as a kid and only recovered recently. I never built it and completely forgot about it until I cleaned my parents' attic while visiting them. I finally built it, and it dawned on me: The scale of the car (1/43) would fit well with some of Reaper's Chronoscope bones models! It would look awesome in a Diorama! So who would be a good model from my Bones collection to go along this old Citroën? A Nun of course! So Sister Maria (80028) it is! Now I had to explain why she had a gun in her hand... Well because of Zombie Apocalypse of course! So I added a pair of Mantic's zombies in the mix. Though, I didn't want her to be alone to face zombies. So I added the Bones Ninja (80032) in there because... well... Ninjas are like bacon: They make everything better. So there it is: The Nun and the Ninja were traveling on a countryside road when they saw a pair of Zs roaming in the field nearby. They stopped there and decided to clear them out. But since bullets are a precious commodity in these times, the Nun would be distracting them allowing her stealth partner to chop them off from the back. Some details: C&C welcome. And suggestions to name this piece are greatly encouraged. Thanks
  22. So, I had a copy of this guy sitting on my desk with a few bits painted. I decided to make a little diorama using him and some other models. The barbarian's part of a statue that will be the centerpiece of the diorama, with some townsfolk going about their business and some bored guards. It's late now, so I'll post some sketches and painted minis in the morning.
  23. Diorama entries only. Six images per entry. No chatter or questions, please. Use the Rules and Questions thread.
  24. RAGE AGAINST MA'SHEEN Torgils knew he had to hurry, his rage fueling his mighty thews as he raced down the steps into the evil wizard's sanctum... he encountered a large iron bound door and without hesitation he laid into it with his axe, the door fell before him like wheat before a scythe... Standing before an ancient altar of evil was his nemesis, the vile wizard Severus and upon the altar was a beautiful young princess... He raced into the room as Severus spoke the incantation to bring forth the Elder God...Ma'sheen... time seemed to slow as Torgils raised his axe on high and rushed forward to do battle... For this piece, I wanted to create a scene that would evoke the essence of Conan and give a sense of action and danger. Some of you followed along with my WIP of it and saw the evolution, gave me valuable feedback (thank you!) and finally I completed it in time to enter it into the Las Vegas Open, a local convention with a painting competition. I entered the "journeyman level" as I'd never won any contests before and was awarded a Gold Pin for the piece. Which, from what I understand, is a lot like Reaper's medals for individual works. Figures: Torgils "the black wolf" from Catacombes Le Regne Sombre, sculpted by Fancagne Didier. Severus from Enigma - ENM3038 Altar of Evil w/ Victim - Reaper SKU 02580 (didn't use the candles) Arms from Eldritch Demon - Reaper SKU 77113 Tentacles from Reaper's Creature Components - SKU 03334 Scratch built shelf and desk Special thanks to Thrym for doing the banner/title for me to be placed on the front of the piece. C&C are welcomed and appreciated, thanks for looking!
  25. Okay, prototype number one completed. Time for another. THE SINKING KEEP So after reviewing the previous thread other ideas I decided I really want to make the keep. I found the six-inch cork round and roughed in the water and then cut away the cork where I had drawn water in the picture. Then after finding an appropriately sized tube to create the tower, I transferred the shape of the tower sticking out of the water using a stencil I made from the drawing. Then i outlined the cut tube on to the cork and cut away the inside edge to seat the tower piece. After tweaking the cut and the fit it in the cut space I added to a small bit of elevated ground to either side. Here's what I have so far... The cork elevations are just super glued at the moment. But once I shape the slopes of them I will seal the cork with glue. Stay tuned.
