  1. Here is the work in progress for the Spring Exchange 2018 I did for @Leopardpixie And here is the Show off completed version of it. http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/81910-last-stand-spring-exchange-2018-picture-heavy/
  2. This is the piece I did for @Leopardpixie. This was a labor of love as I did the water effect in that magnitude for the first time. Hope you enjoy it. C&C welcome. HERE IS THE WORK IN PROGRESS FOR IT http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/81911-spring-exchange-2018-last-stand/
  3. Ok , time to put that things in the show off section. Did not really know what to do with naming so I though that would be funny name haha, now up to you to decide which is what :D here last pic, did not find something suitable enough to add some exterior background so I just keep it simple here. Wip thread here : http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/81615-reaper-diorama-77254775507739977454/ Big thanks for the advice and feedback during the wip , special thanks to @Heisler , his advice helped me narrow down the scene to a state I could manage to move forward and progress on this. Each project is a learning experience :D ..one thing I won't do again is actually to start fight on 2 fronts, doing the scene while also doing the figure paint is a bit time consuming and make harder to focus. Since it's a reaper Diorama , I will add it to the yearly contest as well :D..

AoW - Vignette Orc VS Barbarian

Finally , closing that project..was fun and learn quite a bit doing it.
  5. Been working on this project for some time now, and hoping to get it done for a local competition in september. Still a lot to do, but I'm mostly happy with what I have made so far.. I bought a bits-box with loads of Wahammer bits, and decided to try and sculpt a bigger tyranid out those bits, as a maine character for the scene. I find the sculpting as fun as the painting..and well, the Warhammer stuff seems rather expensive. I know nothing of the Warhammer 40K world, so it also been fun reading and researching for stuff. This will be a scene in the Wahmmaer 40K world. Three tau XV25's and one drone (not pictured) are behind enemy lines, and attack some sort of Tyranid base.. First two pictures a finished minis, A Tau XV25 (its a battle-suit with a 'tau-person' inside), and a small tyranid. Next is the big tyranid, grey stuff is from the bits box, light-brown is Fimo sculpting clay and green is green-stuff. It is mostly done, but need a bit of grinding a maybe a few more details. The tail is going to end into next picture, where the tau is in big trouble (or is he?). The tau is painted, but the tail is just sculpted and a few strokes of priming. The part where the tail is shot to pieces is made of small pieces of fishing line, white-glue and sculpting paste. I glued the fishing line more or less randomly in place with super-glue-gel, super glue to hold the two pieces of tail in place. Covered everything with water thinned white-glue. put on some blobs af sculpting paste and covered everything in water-thinned white glue again. Last pictures is the base, mostly just primed. The tau's are attacking from the left side of the first picture, and the small tyranid will be lurking in the cave. Feel free to suggest, critiq and comment on anything, thanks for looking.

    Sleeping Beauty

I have been kicking around an idea of combining #50188 Sleeping Beauty and #03600 Praying Paladin in a mini diorama.. I have even gotten so far as to open their blisters and prime the paladin.. Then, tonight, I had an Idea! See, last year when my kids and I were playing Frostgrave, I backed a kickstarter for some resin scenery . As per usual, however, by the time the scenery arrived, they had lost interest in Frostgrave. Combined with some iffy casts, I had put the box off to the side under my desk and forgotten about it.. until tonight, that is.. What we now see here was billed as a watchtower hill, but looks like a potential mausoleum.. Add a saddled horse, maybe a couple of other party members, and "Bob's your uncle!" I'm going to need to invest in some green stuff to clean up the cast for the 'table' top where the pillars connect as they're way off at the moment.. Alternatively, I have a 'ruined palace' that might work as well.. The second won't need as much cleanup or modification to work, also leaving the watchtower for a dragon or something to perch on at some point as well.. decisions, decisions..

    GaryCon 10 Exclusive Diorama

I'm really happy with this one. 3D render by John Popson, cast by Effincool Miniatures. This will be available next weekend at GaryCon in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. I get to personally hand it to Luke Gygax, and it will go into the charity auction, which all the proceeds go to the Wounded Warrior Project. I got it as close to the poster and shirt art as I could. Thanks for looking! If you're going to Gary Con this year, introduce yourself if you find me.

    Sunrise diorama

After a long nights work at the Lucky Sunrise Inn, Eric the Bard stepped out of the back-stage door, he had rather heavy bag of gold hanging in his belt, it had been a good night. The streets were empty, and he began the walk home, but as he turned the first corner he saw the most beautifull sunrise over the roof tops. He just had to take his hat off and admire the sight... Two old minis, probaly Ral Partha. The base is scratch build, mainly from sculpting clay, a bit of wire and green stuff and short piece of plastic tube. The skull and the 'Lucky'-sign (the shield) is from the bits box. I tried to work with a bit of NMM, but I'm too satisfied with it. Mostly the handle on the bards sword is a bit off. But in overall I'm happy with it, and it was a lot of fun to paint, I'm just a sucker of OSL so hope the effect is visible. Any kind critiq is more than welcome, thanks for looking.
  10. I put together this little diorama for Vegascat for the Secret Sophie this year. He had expressed an interest in fantasy or steampunk and I wanted to give him something that would work for either. The concept is a whos hunting who in a dark hall or around a building corner. I left the figures attached with wax instead of gluing them down incase Vegascat wanted to use them in a campaign I am afraid that recently my skills have fallen off some and it has been a really busy year. I did find a few spots in the pictures that needed touchup and got them before I sent them out but its still rougher than I would really like (sorry bout that I am beginning to think I really need glasses) . I did think that the overall scene came out really well and in particular, the use of a hemming pin as the silver arrow added a really nice highlight and effect. the actual walls are from some old mage knight dungeon tiles that I picked up years ago. I literally have hundreds of them and this was an opportunity to use a few up. Anyway, here are the pictures, Enjoy!

    Stop Thief: Mousling Diorama

This was my second diorama for ReaperCon 2017 and was the one picked for judging. The idea for it actually began at last year's ReaperCon and was originally going to be the wizard catching the barbarian mousling breaking in. Over the year it evolved into a large scene than originally planned and I swapped out the barbarian for the two thieves/rogues. It ended up getting a gold medal and Mousling Honorable Mention. Any feedback would be appreciated. Here is the WIP thread: Stop Thief! Thank you to everyone who gave me feedback while creating this diorama.
  12. Hello! I've recently started working on a diorama, and a friend of mine urged me to post here. The only thing that is missing from the pictures below is the kelp that will be behind the kraken (on the little pads on the back side of the base). It is some floppy aquarium kelp that I"m currently trying to figure out how to get it to stand up straight. Tips, tricks, C&C are all welcomed. Here is the pre-primed coral wall in varying states of sand coverage. The coral is planned to be very brightly colored. Primed base: You can see the kelp pads in the pic above. Base with Kraken for staging verification: Here is the almost finished diver, who goes in the slot in front of the Kraken. This drab, dirty human looking down at his feet while the kraken looms above is one of my favorite parts, tbh. Cheers! Valk
  13. This is something I have been working on for about a year, thanks to procrastination and being side tracked by other projects, but I finally decided to get it finished up. It was a lot of fun to work on and I'm pleased with the finished result and the little story it tells.
  14. This was one of my dioramas for the 2017 ReaperCon. I got the idea when Bombshell announced their Maelee and bot combo pack for the month of February last year, I think. I just happened to be playing Fallout 4 at the time and got the idea of doing a wasteland bot shop with Maelee as the owner and a bunch of bots around doing things. This was not my diorama that ended up being judged for the medal but it did received the silver Maelee Award for Diorama/Large Scale. Here is the WIP thread: The Bot Shop A big thank you to everyone who gave me feedback in the WIP thread and a huge shout out to @SisterMaryNapalm for recommending I add the android which ended up solving my "is this telling a story?" issue.

    TARDIS Christmas Diorama

Christmas diorama for my mom. I forgot to take better photos before I glued the dome on but here it is.
  16. So I finished my D20 Rainbow Dragon Challenge as given by @Cyradis, @Sirithiliel and @Pezler the Polychromatic. Challenge is here for those who want to join. http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/76666-the-seers-and-a-wizard-present-a-random-rainbow-dragon-challenge/ My WIP http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/76689-glitterwolf-has-accepted-the-d20-rainbow-dragon-quest/ And finally my Dragon! I choose Ebonwrath and made him a Fairy Dragon with Butterfly wings. He just landed near a wild river to smell the flowers..
  17. Having a hard time getting started back up on my keeper's sanctum diorama... I think I need to purposely take a break from it and work on some other stuff to get my creative juices flowing again. I have this idea in my head for a 75mm diorama featuring black sun miniatures' "Barbarian and the Lost Princess" (Conan) vs SC75's "Brock the Wanderer" I'm thinking in this piece that it will have Conan carrying the princess through a dungeon type setting and then Brock standing there in front of a doorway. I'm going to really pull from artwork that I admire in regards to barbarians such as Frazetta and Patrick J. Jones. Right now I'm cleaning off the flash and mold lines, as soon as I do that, I'll wash everything and start to assemble as much as I can without causing issues during painting. Mood and color scheme inspiration pic from Patrick J. Jones -

    "Wrong Turn"

Here are pictures of my ReaperCon 2017 Diorama entry, "Wrong Turn":
  19. I bought the Golden crackle paste medium instead of going out to buy the GW crackle paint... but so far no crackles in my test swatches. I'm hoping some people here have tried Golden before and have any tips. Do I need a base coat? Glue on the bottom? Thicker layers? Does it need the full 3 days to dry & cure even for small terrain pieces? I'm hoping to be able to just use what I already have, but I might be able to buy some Agrellan earth this weekend if the Golden doesn't work. Or if there are any good crackle paints for a dry desert texture I could find at Joann's or Michael's or Blick. Thanks! :)

    TARDIS Christmas Diorama

So as some of you may know I'm making a diorama! This will be slow going for a while as I get the materials and then it should be full steam ahead. I've started by procuring another copy of the "telephone box" since I don't really like the first one I did a few years ago. It's not awful but not up to my standard for a Christmas present.
  21. I've started working in earnest on my diorama entry for ReaperCon... Nothing like waiting till the last minute... First I figured out placement, then carved out the wall. And now I'm working on actually painting it up. I have no idea if I'm going to be able to pull off the OSL effect or not.
  22. OK, so this is one of those "good enough!" moments and I am calling this done! This, actually being the stage for many of my firsts.. My first diorama for starters, my first attempt at making a wire-tree, the first time I used an airbrush and my first (albeit failed) entry to a competition. And it is the moment to call it quits, declare it finished and present to you for much desired C&C. Unfortunately my photography is still very much lacking :( Oh and the reason I couldn't make it to the competition is that I have to go on a business trip abroad on the very day that it will be held.. Oh well, there is always next year I guess.. Thanks for looking.

    Time to reflect (vignette)

Hi, I painted "Eric, the Paladin initiate" as a random mini from Bones 2. I like his contemplative look and pose... So I decided to make a little vignette/diorama by adding one of the graveyard statue from Bones3. I call it "Time to Reflect". The base is an Orange juice cap, and the tree is from Woodland Scenic. C&C Welcome
  24. This is one of my planned dioramas for ReaperCon. It is going to be a post apocalyptic 'bot shop featuring Bombshell Miniatures's Maelee and an assortment of robots. Right now the structure is built and partially painted with some weathering started. Still need to put a sign together but other than that, all construction is completed. What color do you suggest for the bricks/stone? The walls are a faint blue which is hard to see in the photos and will have rust effects like the roof. These are most of the 'bots as well as the workbench. The Maelee I am using is in my travel paint kit so I did not get her out for the photo. Do you like the two toned 'bot or should I go with a solid color? Any other suggestions would be welcome!

    Snow effects

I'm going to start a diorama soon to go inside a snow globe. I want to put snow on the base but seeing as I've never done any sort of basing at all I'm not sure where to begin. The base will be the rubber stopper that is the plug to the bottom of the globe so I'm not sure if that will effect anything or not. I've seen something at Michael's/Joann's called "snowtex" and was wondering if that might work or how well it would work? Any advice as to how to go about this?
