  1. Hey I'm attempting something crazy for Gen con this year, and I need a little help. I am doing a diorama for the MHE painting competition, and the title for the piece is kind of an important part of it. Is it common or acceptable to have the title engraved to put on the base? If not, what is a good way to make the title known? This is something I've never done before so any advice (including general diorama advice would be appreciated. I wasn't planning on doing a WIP, just puting the picture up in Show off after Gen con assuming I get it done in time.
  2. Hi all, Since I don't have enough projects on the go already , and I've had this idea rolling around in my head since the kickstarter as rolling, I figured I'm start collecting bits and pieces for it. I find these guys look a bit more steampunky/post apocalyptic than Wild West and, other than the witch, want to have them on a yellow brick road of sorts with a ruined landscape surrounding them. I was thinking that a gutted car in the background and have been scrambling through the interwebs in search of something suitable. I'm hoping for something completely burnt out w
  3. So... not having enough WIPs on the go already, my box of Bones lovelies arrived and this happened. The plan is to paint him in blues/whites/greys and MAYBE have him breathing something cold onto an opponent of some sort. Digging through my Bones and the Reaper website for ideas so he might end up on a nice frozen landscape trying to fend off someone. Currently leaning towards a knight with their shield forward or a wizard of some sort. Once the Green Stuff cures, he'll get a thin coat of blue liner and then the real work will begin while I search fo
  4. Here is my finished "spirit of the forest" diorama. Including a bones bird familiar and metal squirrel familiar from 02756. (The axe was from a Frostgrave plastic sprue - cultists or soldiers?) wip is here Pics Oops - meant to put his in show off. How do I fix it? Mod help?
  5. This was started as a small-ish side project, but ended up being a big-ish project. With a lot of new things for me. The ghost is an old mini that I painted many years ago, and was quite happy with at the moment. And as I started up in this hoppy again, I thought I might build a base for it. I wanted it to look dark or low-light, so used a bit darker colors as I would normally have used, but I still wanted to use colors. I'm really happy with the result, I think it's the best piece of landscape I have made. And I learned a couple new things. A big thanks to all that comment
  6. EDGE OF OBLIVION After many miles climbing the mountains of his homeland, Torgar the Barbarian had finally caught up to the two thieves who had stolen his family heirloom, his grandmother's axe which had been used to cut the head off the great orc chieftain Yarvak. He had found their trail and followed it through the blizzard. He was raging after he had shown them hospitality and drinks, they had slipped a drug into his drink and stolen the artifact.... Now was the time for the reckoning! "VENGEANCE SHALL BE MINE!!!!" Roared Torgar, after taking the head off the first thief and showing
  7. This was my second diorama that I did for ReaperCon 2016. I started toying with ideas after the Mousling Award was announced and originally pictured a few Mouslings in a cave, totally oblivious to the spider on the ceiling. This changed when I was sorting through some burl wood and came across the piece that I used. I used wolf spiders as my inspiration as they like to make their home in holes and so rather than a cave, I had the Mouslings hunting the spider in a field. It just came together perfectly and I had a blast painting them. I am so addicted to Mouslings now. "The Hunt" MSP Open
  8. This was one of my diorama entries at ReaperCon 2016. The idea came to me while watching Once Upon a Time and seeing the "Troll" bridge. This bridge is a toll bridge in Storybrooke that someone renamed Troll Bridge. I was then looking at Dark Sword's Critter Kingdoms Anthropomorphic line and came across the Horned Toad Assassin and thus the Toad Bridge came to be. It was originally going to be a larger piece with a troop of three or four facing off against the toad but it would have taken up most of my carrying case. So it got shrunk down and became just the cat against the Toad. The name also
  9. This is what I painted for Teskeria for the 2016 Secret Sophie exchange. She said she liked dragons and the colors purple and pink. I started with the green dragon hatchling, I wanted one that looked like it was attempting to fly, and this one seemed to be sitting up and paying attention. I built up a little cork hill for Cassie to be standing on, demonstrating with her staff and her arms thrust wide. The base has little hillocks covered in static grass. The bushes and flowers are real dried miniature plants that I pulled out of my dollhouse supplies. Both figures are removable for play.
  10. Sculptor: Bob Ridolfi I fished this cute girl out of the Box o' Goodwill from the Reaper forums, so it's only right that she make her way back to another forum member as an exchange mini for Secret Sophie 2016. Tricksay wanted to receive "open to anything"; I love when people pick that, because I can just paint whatever I feel like. Thanks to Bonwirn for giving me a bunch of Hirst Arts blocks to make the diorama out of. After I took these pictures I realized: OMG, you can't even see the rear half that I spent so much time on. Despite the chance of ruining the mini, I carefully drilled
  11. An overview of my efforts in 2016. Thanks to you all liking, commenting and chatting I've become more productive. Also I feel like I'm improving. Thank you all for your input and silliness. 12. Not all was peace and quiet in the forest. Lately a group of little demons had infested the place. These Imps, Hordlings or whatever they were called, harassed the little animals, the fairies and they damaged the trees and the mushrooms. Even the Grand Mushroom watched in horror how they terrorized the Forest, but he could do nothing. One day the Imps captured one of the fairies and beat her up. She could barely escape and she fled crying. Almost leaving the forest, she came by a small dirt road, and she noticed a cart coming. Quickly she hid between t
  13. This was done for a fun competition where you were supposed to recreate an album cover with miniatures. I chose the Army of Darkness Official Soundtrack. It uses the same art as the Movie. :) All I can post here is a WIP, pic. The rest, as well as the final result can be found in the links below, due to nudity.: WIP / photobox images: http://i.imgur.com/nnpwbFv.jpg http://i.imgur.com/9du3P58.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ntIrUGC.jpg Final result. There was no way to fit all nine minis, along with the scenery in my photobox, so the colours / paint suffered a bit in this one, b
  14. Wizards of the Coast's Dungeons & Dragons Fire Giant Stalking the Steps This 25mm scale Fire Giant isn't humongous by today's miniature line standards but he has a lot of character. The sculptors, Chaz Elliot and then apprentice, Jason Wiebe, put a lot of great detail into this fellow. I personally love the knowing grin on his face. However, partly because of the scale and the sculpted position of the giant, I felt he wasn't set up right. So he was reposed a smidge. When I first looked him over at the work table, I held him on a slab of slate and tried to visualize him on a game
  15. It started last year, when stonehaven offered a feathered dinosaur and a frog knight. I decided to make a diorama of one of my wife's fav jokes. Since it involved a library, it would be perfect for her to keep on her desk at work. the frog knight didn't work out, so I got a different frog from reaper. I got as far as priming, and starting a base-coat on the "chicken". In December, kicked the project into high gear. WIP The Joke
  16. Hi all, Crazy idea that has been floating around my noggin for months now is finally starting to come together. Never done anything like this before so we'll see where this leads. Cinder, with gaps filled with green stuff. Her legs are a little bent so I can't quite attach her to her base so I'll use the terrain and pin her where she needs to be. Cinder, 2 hatchlings, some quail eggs and tree bark (rocks) for some of the landscaping. Plan is to have to eggs sitting on a pile of treasure. Going to hit Michael's to see if I can find a suitable base for it otherwise I
  17. So things were a little rushed in getting this finished a week ago, and I never did have the time to do a proper show off... And as final assembly didn't happen until Thursday afternoon..... and the results.... Thanks for all the fun, comments and following along with this!!!!!! George Forgot to link the WiP.....
  18. As I have been working almost exclusively on my diorama project, I have not been posting 'Finished' pictures of the models here.. So now that I have finished the 4 PC types I have decided to post them here. I give you Xanathar the Beholder's 4 'Councillors'... Slan Thurbal: (Decided that I don't have time to change HIS left hand....) Slink Monkester: Ott Steeltoes: Shindia Darkeyes: Group Shot: An approximation of their positions in the diorama, with a Intellect Devourer added... Thanks for looking! And for all those cheering me on,
  19. A little while ago I purchased Hasslefree's "Fairies Wear Boots" piece. The Gothic Punk like Fairy stomps on candy. Now I kept thinking that it would be fun to have her chasing little Imps and stomp those into the ground. So I got me some little familairs and stuff from Reaper. Then Malefacus ( Al) send me a wonderful Mushroom he sculpted. To top things off, Knarthex ( George) send me some stuff including a nice oval wooden plinth. Thinking about it all, I realised I now have the ingredients to start on this piece. The Idea
  20. Okay prepare for lengthy thought..... (Before it dies of neglect and loneliness....) Whilst on the hangouts over this weekend, the old "dungeon romps" that we used to do in these threads was mentioned, I believe by Adept Legacy. As we batted the Idea around, we wondered if people would be interested in painting up their "Forum Personae" for use in a diorama. It would go something like this, (Maybe) People find a mini that they feel represents them self in their "forum personae" IE A Drow Elf for myself, the axe toting Barbarian with an INT dump stat for Ub3r, a Jedi Hamste
  21. Right. This project has been kicking my butt, but I'ma gonna kick it back! The idea originally was to use Monique from the master series minis range and do something involving a bunch of critters attacking on her command. I gave up on that because I didn't feeling like that much sculpting. Then I remembered I also had Magnus. Hmmmn, I thought. I do love that Dire Straits song "Romeo and Juliet" I can just see the scene now... ...finds a convenient streetlight (check, I can make that), steps out of the shade (oooh, paint a backdrop doorway?) and says... well, you know how it
  22. Greetings! I finally finished my mini diorama featuring a classic Goblin Chieftain's Chariot (FTG13) citadel miniature from "the olden days". I had a lot of fun painting & creating this & I learned some new things along the way. If you would like to see how it was created, the WIP can be found here. Thanks for looking, comments & critiques are always welcome!
  23. Need somewhere to keep my dwarf army. Thought to build LED underground small garrison fort/outpost. Will have 4 floors Magnetized bottom floor for large models And will try to stuff as much detail as I can. Began with a wooden simple frame, and 2" PinkFoam. Was debating to build up all details and then paint it at once, or paint it in pieces and install them into the box as I go. Do to the nature of the LED lighting, and much uncertainties with LED lighting, I decided to craft it piece by piece instead of all at once. Also, I do not have a good way to cover very large, har
  24. Hello guys. (First time here) Building small diorama with a Tiik and Mudcroaks. I also have Spikeshells and more Tiiks alongside big Kallaguk. Do not know how to arrange them yet, but progress so far. Enjoy.
  25. Hey folks! Just wondering if anyone knows of any decals that can be used to put writing in open books at our 28mm scale.... Doesn't have to be designed specifically for it, it just needs to look like it! Thanks! George
