  1. I've started working in earnest on my diorama entry for ReaperCon... Nothing like waiting till the last minute... First I figured out placement, then carved out the wall. And now I'm working on actually painting it up. I have no idea if I'm going to be able to pull off the OSL effect or not.
  2. Not all was peace and quiet in the forest. Lately a group of little demons had infested the place. These Imps, Hordlings or whatever they were called, harassed the little animals, the fairies and they damaged the trees and the mushrooms. Even the Grand Mushroom watched in horror how they terrorized the Forest, but he could do nothing. One day the Imps captured one of the fairies and beat her up. She could barely escape and she fled crying. Almost leaving the forest, she came by a small dirt road, and she noticed a cart coming. Quickly she hid between t
  3. Here is Maria Roseblade from the Reaper Master Series. Hope you'll like it. WIP is here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/62239-30007-maria-roseblade-pirate-queen-54mm-xherman1964
  4. OK, so this is one of those "good enough!" moments and I am calling this done! This, actually being the stage for many of my firsts.. My first diorama for starters, my first attempt at making a wire-tree, the first time I used an airbrush and my first (albeit failed) entry to a competition. And it is the moment to call it quits, declare it finished and present to you for much desired C&C. Unfortunately my photography is still very much lacking :( Oh and the reason I couldn't make it to the competition
  5. Hi, I painted "Eric, the Paladin initiate" as a random mini from Bones 2. I like his contemplative look and pose... So I decided to make a little vignette/diorama by adding one of the graveyard statue from Bones3. I call it "Time to Reflect". The base is an Orange juice cap, and the tree is from Woodland Scenic. C&C Welcome
  6. I'm going to start a diorama soon to go inside a snow globe. I want to put snow on the base but seeing as I've never done any sort of basing at all I'm not sure where to begin. The base will be the rubber stopper that is the plug to the bottom of the globe so I'm not sure if that will effect anything or not. I've seen something at Michael's/Joann's called "snowtex" and was wondering if that might work or how well it would work? Any advice as to how to go about this?
  7. Well then - here we are. After I don't know how many hours (maybe 60?) and a few to dry - here's what I made in this WIP thread. ->Let's make a present! Hanseatic League Sea Traffic Control Center<- It came out pretty nicely - only thing I am a bit unhappy with is the glowing effect I tried to do. My first one. I guess I've got to work on that. Anyway. Here we go: (Sign can be literally translated as 'issued')
  8. And here we are - after 48 hours of building time and another 20 or so hours of drying, our beach diorama is finally done. Check here for the WIP Thread ->Let's Make a Present! Combat divers on the beach<-
  9. When my first present - please check here ->Let's present a ... present! Owl Mage<- was received pretty well by our female colleage, my boss asked me to do more. This time the task was to make a present for another colleague who left us. As he was in the military and also is a passionate diver, I thought of something military. What would be a better fit than German combat divers (Kampfschwimmer)? Luckily I found a bunch of German frogmen miniatures and ordered them immediately. When I told my boss what I had in mind, she asked me to include the following elements:
  10. And here we are - after 36 hours of building time and another 18 hours of drying, the owl mage is finally done. Check here for the WIP Thread ->Let's Make a Present! Owl Mage<-
  11. Here we go again. If you don’t want to know what led to the whole “Let’s make a present”-stuff, feel free to scroll down to the first picture. I have to admit: I am not world’s best painter. To be honest – I am far away from that. I cannot remember color theory, keep forgetting important steps or read a tutorial just to throw it away ‘cause I cannot imagine how I should turn the advices into actual results. Life is hard … Anyway – it seems that persons in my proximity have caught attention of what I am trying to do and figure that it is actually *good* and from tim
  12. Hey I'm attempting something crazy for Gen con this year, and I need a little help. I am doing a diorama for the MHE painting competition, and the title for the piece is kind of an important part of it. Is it common or acceptable to have the title engraved to put on the base? If not, what is a good way to make the title known? This is something I've never done before so any advice (including general diorama advice would be appreciated. I wasn't planning on doing a WIP, just puting the picture up in Show off after Gen con assuming I get it done in time.
  13. So... not having enough WIPs on the go already, my box of Bones lovelies arrived and this happened. The plan is to paint him in blues/whites/greys and MAYBE have him breathing something cold onto an opponent of some sort. Digging through my Bones and the Reaper website for ideas so he might end up on a nice frozen landscape trying to fend off someone. Currently leaning towards a knight with their shield forward or a wizard of some sort. Once the Green Stuff cures, he'll get a thin coat of blue liner and then the real work will begin while I search fo
  14. Hi all, Since I don't have enough projects on the go already , and I've had this idea rolling around in my head since the kickstarter as rolling, I figured I'm start collecting bits and pieces for it. I find these guys look a bit more steampunky/post apocalyptic than Wild West and, other than the witch, want to have them on a yellow brick road of sorts with a ruined landscape surrounding them. I was thinking that a gutted car in the background and have been scrambling through the interwebs in search of something suitable. I'm hoping for something completely burnt out w
  15. Here is my finished "spirit of the forest" diorama. Including a bones bird familiar and metal squirrel familiar from 02756. (The axe was from a Frostgrave plastic sprue - cultists or soldiers?) wip is here Pics Oops - meant to put his in show off. How do I fix it? Mod help?
  16. This was started as a small-ish side project, but ended up being a big-ish project. With a lot of new things for me. The ghost is an old mini that I painted many years ago, and was quite happy with at the moment. And as I started up in this hoppy again, I thought I might build a base for it. I wanted it to look dark or low-light, so used a bit darker colors as I would normally have used, but I still wanted to use colors. I'm really happy with the result, I think it's the best piece of landscape I have made. And I learned a couple new things. A big thanks to all that comment
  17. EDGE OF OBLIVION After many miles climbing the mountains of his homeland, Torgar the Barbarian had finally caught up to the two thieves who had stolen his family heirloom, his grandmother's axe which had been used to cut the head off the great orc chieftain Yarvak. He had found their trail and followed it through the blizzard. He was raging after he had shown them hospitality and drinks, they had slipped a drug into his drink and stolen the artifact.... Now was the time for the reckoning! "VENGEANCE SHALL BE MINE!!!!" Roared Torgar, after taking the head off the first thief and showing
  18. This was my second diorama that I did for ReaperCon 2016. I started toying with ideas after the Mousling Award was announced and originally pictured a few Mouslings in a cave, totally oblivious to the spider on the ceiling. This changed when I was sorting through some burl wood and came across the piece that I used. I used wolf spiders as my inspiration as they like to make their home in holes and so rather than a cave, I had the Mouslings hunting the spider in a field. It just came together perfectly and I had a blast painting them. I am so addicted to Mouslings now. "The Hunt" MSP Open
  19. This was one of my diorama entries at ReaperCon 2016. The idea came to me while watching Once Upon a Time and seeing the "Troll" bridge. This bridge is a toll bridge in Storybrooke that someone renamed Troll Bridge. I was then looking at Dark Sword's Critter Kingdoms Anthropomorphic line and came across the Horned Toad Assassin and thus the Toad Bridge came to be. It was originally going to be a larger piece with a troop of three or four facing off against the toad but it would have taken up most of my carrying case. So it got shrunk down and became just the cat against the Toad. The name also
  20. This is what I painted for Teskeria for the 2016 Secret Sophie exchange. She said she liked dragons and the colors purple and pink. I started with the green dragon hatchling, I wanted one that looked like it was attempting to fly, and this one seemed to be sitting up and paying attention. I built up a little cork hill for Cassie to be standing on, demonstrating with her staff and her arms thrust wide. The base has little hillocks covered in static grass. The bushes and flowers are real dried miniature plants that I pulled out of my dollhouse supplies. Both figures are removable for play.
  21. Hey, another WIP I'll start then most likely ignore for months. I finished Platypod, or so I thought. Then I took pictures and decided, nope. Needs more blending and highlights. See Frumitty and Shoamita to follow I've had quite a few questions about how I created the river on my spring exchange's base. I'll do my best to take their base from start to finish including all my mistakes (cause I'll make them) and how I fixed them. Pictures of the base concept to follow Comments, questions, suggestions always welcome.
  22. When Peaches heard her man had been drinking Jack Daniels and which part of town he was, she took the Warpig and rode like the wind. Is she in time? If not, the Harley is not too blame. This is a Mean Machine... WIP http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/66545-street-violence-by-xherman1964/ DIORAMA http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69093-angel-city-diorama-by-xherman1964-tribute-to-lemmy/?p=1378316 I painted the Motörhead Warpig on it as a tribute. And of course the roads are dirty.
  23. An overview of my efforts in 2016. Thanks to you all liking, commenting and chatting I've become more productive. Also I feel like I'm improving. Thank you all for your input and silliness. 25. This was done for a fun competition where you were supposed to recreate an album cover with miniatures. I chose the Army of Darkness Official Soundtrack. It uses the same art as the Movie. :) All I can post here is a WIP, pic. The rest, as well as the final result can be found in the links below, due to nudity.: WIP / photobox images: http://i.imgur.com/nnpwbFv.jpg http://i.imgur.com/9du3P58.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ntIrUGC.jpg Final result. There was no way to fit all nine minis, along with the scenery in my photobox, so the colours / paint suffered a bit in this one, b
