  5. Mine diorama I made based off of the adventure "A deep and creeping darkness" that is in the "Candlekeep Mysteries" anthology book for D&D 5e. I'm really happy how this turned out. Included are: Human Fighter Cassiatta - sku 77204 from bones 1 Dwarf fighter Fulumbar - sku 77011 from Bones 1 Sorcerer Magus Battleguard - sku ? from bones 3? - simple head swap from a human monk Meenlock's 3d printed Comments welcomed Thanks.
  6. I recently finished up this book nook. I was inspired by Black Magic Craft (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxOWFbYNTOo&fbclid=IwAR0KPsFmpNYhvNHcca_3uWtP4U3fLk1F8InSrhXuLQB94Fj0EPAc_wwDbHo). I made this for a good friend that I have played DND with who is moving and wanted a little going away present to give to him. Painted with mix of Reaper Paints and Vallejo paints. The terrain is 3D printed, stalagmites are from Thingiverse and the ruins are from Printable Scenery (https://www.printablescenery.com/) that I modified on Meshmixer. This was my first time working with poured resin and LED lighting, was a lot of fun and now I am definitely going to make one for myself.
  7. Here's a simple one for you. Painted the Great Worm as a Purple Worm to the surprise of no one. More Photos Below the Spoiler:
  8. Here's a fun and simple one for you this week! Owlbears are one of my favorite D&D creatures. They're just such a silly concept and I love them. Any scenario were I could use a bear, I swap out for one of these guys instead. However, despite owning several different owlbear models, I have avoided painting them for a long time out of fear of ruining them. Finally decided to give one a shot. Reaper Bones 4: Lowland Owlbear (77674) More Photos Below What kind of Owls should I use as inspiration next? What mini did you put off painting for too long?
  9. Hello all! I am a very novice beginner to miniature painting, and have only been doing it for about a year or so. I feel like my skills are leveling up pretty quickly, but still need some advice. My friend is trying to coax me into pen and paper RPGs like DnD and pathfinder, and we are currently doing a pathfinder session. To add flavor to the games and because I like to feel like I'm participating, I'm working on terrain and buildings. The first building that I'm nearing completion on is Tabletop World's Mansion. Because of the large size of the model (and the hope that I'll be getting more pieces, creating a city that will look like it all came from the same forest/quarry/paint shoppe) I went to various Hardware stores and bought actual high quality building/house paint. I'm a little concerned this was a bad move, since I know model paint is specifically made for small scales. The colors for the mansion were ripped from the Winchester Mystery House photos because I love the design and colors. So the main question I have is regarding sealing. I've heard krylon matte spray can leave a sticky residue, and I want to avoid that. I was wondering what sealing spray I should use since I went with actual house paints. Because the parts where the house fits together are extremely snug, my desire is to paint on a gloss coat for the connecting parts, so when the mansion is put together/pulled apart the gloss coat will protect the paint better from rubbing off. Or will it stick together because of the gloss coat? Looking for advice on that. Finally, the wood flooring I would like to look a little more aged. I'm kind of worried about adding grey or white with dry brushing but will probably end up doing that. The wood color was a brown paint I had mixed up at the hardware store, so I figured I would brush some burnt umber over it and then go with some kind of gray and then white for the aged look. This is almost finished, I'm very much a "good enough" worker and hobbyist, and so long as it looks decent on the table I'll be happy. I could certainly obsess over the tiny details for the next 10 years, but I like my sanity. Looking for some advice on the sealing/aging wood though! Thank you for reading my post. Sorry about the length.
  10. So, I recently purchased the "Nolzur's Marvelous Pigments Monsters Paint Set". Came with a bunch of Army Painter washes and paints and yadda yadda yadda... But it also came with this neat Owlbear mini, which is what I have to share with you guys today! First eyes I ever successfully painted. But in my defense, I'd only ever tried on minis with smallish eyes, which was NOT the brightest idea I'd ever had. The left eye turned out really good in my opinion, but the right one was a bit messy. I also need to do so me touch-up work on the base. I got a bit careless with the wash, and uh... Yeeeeah. Lastly and leastly, I didn't upload an outdoor picture as I usually do. That'll probably come later, provided I don't forget.
  11. Hi everyone, Does anyone know of a module or resource that has a pre made undersea city or palace? One of my group paying saltmarsh took up the sea elf Prince when his character drowned and then promised the support of his city. Now the party wants to visit the city and negotiate for those resources. I want them to have a good time and have at least the trappings of a city around them but I don't want to build and populate an entire city in a week or 2 for a 1 week adventure that could, potentially become a rerunning resource but might not. Does anyone know of a module or supplement for an Atlantis or similar city below the waves?
  12. I recently (not really recently...) backed the new Blood Rage Digital kickstarter. I've had my eyes on the game for some time but didn't want to buy it without the plastic tokens, so when the kickstarter came along I jumped on board. While waiting for the extras I'm planning to buy the core game and get it painted. With one of the pieces being the Fire Giant I want to enhance the base with some fire effects (lava or the like). But I needed something to practice on. Balor became that something. Or the base at first. Then I just had to finish it. I had higher hopes when I started but I don't have the patience for lager miniatures, so I ended up cutting as many corners as I could. All and all it did end up better than I thought it would.
  13. My first show off thread! Not because I am prouder of these than anything else, more that these were close to hand when I considered taking photos and keeping more of a visual record of my mini painting adventures. OH's dad and partner got me these, amongst other, Otherworld Miniatures for Christmas and I thought these were really fun sculpts! I did these in one evening (and maybe another half hour the next day), and I'm happy with their table-top level quality. I used aquarium plant on the bases and I'm thinking I may go back and paint over that as it is quite bold- but for now I consider these done! Unfortunately I can't foresee these swamp-dwellers making an appearance in my City dwelling d&d campaign, but you never know!
  14. Hello everyone. As I recently finished an orc squad, I’m now focusing on a goblin one. I’d like to share my progress with you. These will be used for tabletop gaming, in DnD campaigns I recently started DMing. They’re all reaper minis. On these pictures I had just removed the mold lines, glued the separate parts and put the priming on : - 03850: Armored Goblin Spearmen (2) (the smallest one) - 03462: Goblin Warriors (4) - 03777: Cave Goblin Archers (2) - 03838: Sakarat, Goblin Wizard There are a few other ones for which I didn’t take pictures at the beginning. I didn’t want to make them green, so I was going for a yellowish orange for their skin... But as I was wandering through all the paints at my local GW, I stumbled on that “Squig Orange” and decided that was the one. So now they’re almost red : And here are the others that I didn’t think about photographing at the beginning : - 2 copies of 07003: Dungeon Dwellers: Bloodbite Goblins (2) - 14095: Neek, Reven Sergeant These last two already got some spare paint from other minis painting.
  15. Every DM needs wolves. These were bare metal used on the gaming table for far too long! I've been wanting to paint these for a long time, but was intimidated by the fur. I finally decided to take the plunge. I did some research on the web for images for inspiration, as well as the forums. Here's what I came up with. C&C Welcome. First, the individuals. Here was the inspiration photo from google images for a varied color gray wolf. This is what I came up with for him. Coincidentally, it ended up very similar to Anne's picture on the Reaper Web Store. Next, I wanted a run-of-the-mill gray wolf. Here is an inspiration photo. And the model. And, as these are all for our Reign of Winter Adventure Path, I wanted a white wolf! Here was the inspiration. I was surprised to find so much cream and not so much white, so I tried to replicate it on the model. I also tried blue eyes, but they didn't pop quite well enough. And I threw on some snow and cork "rocks." I wasn't entirely happy with it overall, but it is acceptable. Finally, here are some group shots. Overall, I had fun painting these, and knocked all three out in about a week. That's SUPER fast for me.
  16. Have had to rush some minis for our ongoing Dnd campaign, Hoard of the Dragon Queen. Am not the DM but paint the minis. All Reaper Bones that started with Army Painter ink washes in one colour over the whole thing. Then using Vallejo paints as base layers and finishing off with another ink wash to tie things together. The Drakes are "young fire dragons" with the wings cut off. With more time I would have sorted out the two stumps where each wing was. The Lizardman is standing in for a troglodyte and the Lilies are standing in for Violet Fungi. The cultists are just the Mythos / Cthulu cultists. There is a roper as well. Can really recommend lining Bones with ink as a liner which I know a lot of others recommend. The whole lot took 3 hours so it is a quick way of getting things onto the table.
  17. I finally finished by Giant Rats Dozen from Bones I. I tried to give them fur texture. The texture from the cast was too light for drybrushing, so it's essentially free hand. The gray rats have some red and green glazed into the shadows to give them a little diseased feel. I spent WAY too much time painting these... Mold lines on the actual rat (as opposed to the base) were too tricky to try to get rid of, especially in light of the subject matter. They’re rats. A lot of them. C&C Welcome.
  18. If you're playing through or plan on playing through OotA, this post might contain spoilers, so return now. And no, this hag isn't in the book, it's my own thing, so the title is not a spoiler in itself. I was always fascinated by that archetype of European witches and hags, and the idea of devils and hags making deals with characters that ultimately lead to their downfalls sounds tempting. I do have an idea about what the PCs might want from a coven of hags, and I'm really happy to bring my favorite monsters into play, but I have no idea what the hags might want from the PCs in return. Anyway, in OotA there are a bunch of NPCs the PCs meet pretty much in the beginning, when they're all in Drow captivity. My group, being the do-gooders they are, rescued all of them and still have some of them around one year later. One of those NPCs is Prince Derendil, a quaggoth who claims to be an enchanted prince and only talks in old elvish. He has grown quite close to our half-elf wizard, due to her being the only person he could initially talk to. She, being very sure of herself and her magic potential, has the set goal to save him and turn him back into his beautiful elven form before the quaggoth instincts take over and make him into a monster. The book itself explain his condition just as some random mage giving a normal quaggoth an elven personality, and resolves it by him going increasingly mad, especially once the party is back above ground and in the sun. I do find this a bit anti climactic, especially since "turning Derendil back" is pretty much on top of their quest list for a year at this point. My plan is to have them find out that hags are responsible for the spell and they have to go to them for aid. So the hags have a pretty big bargaining chip in their claws, but what do they want for it? One idea I had was making them do a relatively small task in exchange for turning Derendil back into his "original form" (that being a normal quaggoth). This would for sure be very cruel. The opposite would be to tell the group that he is no Elven prince, and if they still want to go through hell to give some quaggoth an Elven body, even though he won't be able to drown them in treasure or make the wizard his princess. Either way, the hags have the opportunity to get something they really want out of this. Something truely, obviously evil like "bring me that child" would not work with my group, and from my understanding hags aren't that on the nose. Any ideas on how to tempt a party into evil stuff would be greatly appreciated.
  19. Painted this guy up to act as our dwarven barbarian for some Adventurers League gaming at an upcoming con. Messing around with skin tones. I may go back and add some tattoos before I finish coating him with varnish (he's got one coat of gloss right now). Am not sure what to put on him, other than maybe the rune for anger.
  20. The Deck of Many is a series of 5e reference cards for Monsters, NPCs, Conditions and Weapons. The Deck of Many is a tool used to assist Game Masters in their role-playing campaigns, freeing them from traditional reference books and allowing them to only bring the references they need. Each card features original artwork and easy to reference information. Should we be successful, all funds raised from this campaign will go towards producing the 4 decks and other campaign rewards. Starting price: $16 for your choice of 1 deck including shipping to U.S & CAN http://kck.st/2iXieoF
  21. Reconstructed and redesigned in response to your input, Stronghold on the Borderlands has been reimagined as a MASSIVE digital, infinite fort design for 3dprinting. This Design will offer more than SIX TIMES the digital content for the SAME PRICE as our initial launch! Original resin options will also remain with many NEW add-on options.
  22. So I know this will probably date me, but does anyone else remember coloring your dice numbers with crayons? I even seem to remember getting a white crayon in the original blue and cyan (or whatever the color is) DnD boxes:) Those were fun times:) I may even have those dice around somewhere in the garage:) A LOT of dice (I like collecting dice haha)
  23. I painted this guy up for a coworker who wanted to use him in his DND game. He heard through the corporate grapevine I was the "mini guy" and wanted me to assemble this figure plus two adventurers that were from the same promotion. The problem he was running into was that WOTC cheaped out on the production and the figures were pretty terrible. The sculpts were okay but the resin was flexible and full of air bubbles. He had snapped an arm trying to wiggle it off the sprue and came looking for "professional" help. Even my nice sprue cutters didn't help as the foot of one of the other figures exploded after I snipped it off. I came to the conclusion if I gave the figures back to him he might try to paint them and come to dislike the whole hobby so I painted up Strahd (but not the adventurers, he's on his own there). Putting Strahd together was, predictably, a total pain in the broccoli. The back leg of the nightmare snapped while I was trying to get it into the holes on the pre-made base. I had to pin on the fly with mixed results. All in all, it was kind of an unpleasant experience. I think it's the first time I ever hate painted a miniature. I gave the figure to the guy and then he left the company to start a consulting business so I can't get proper photos. I was really pleased with the OSL I was able to do which is why I'm posting it here. The cloak and shield were painted using Wappel's methods with Reaper's clear paints. Looking at the top down pictures I could have done a better job with the OSL on the cloak coming from the tail. Oh well!
  24. So, in this thread I'm documenting my progress at Painting and Modifying a bunch of Minis for the D&D Actual Play Podcast The Misadventures of Max's Minions to represent all of the PCs in it, Past, Present and Future! Several of these are Reaper minis this time around. The Podcast can be found here if you are interested... http://maxsminions.com/ The PCs and their Mini-Minions so far... Sting the Pixie Rogue Dog the Beastmaster Ranger(And his Badly made "Kord Hat".) Salle the Goblin Sorceress? Kildrick the Dwaren Cleric of "The First Church of Kildrick the Navel-less" Stasi Xen the Human Fighter Dana Toren the Eladrin Warlord Most of these are in the earliest stage of work in progress. I thought I might as well chronicle this progress somewhere, so I decided on here. Hopefully, I can get a bit of help and support as I endeavor to complete this project. I already know I need a lot of Luck for this. I'm not gonna ask for anyone to give any of your luck for this. Just asking for a bit of Support and maybe a bit of advice. GF
