  1. This was another ina large collection of oldies that my high school friends gave me. Trying to make the scales look like garnets or rubies. Please critique!
  2. Malifaux: Ten Thunders Shadow Emissary painted as a blue dragon
  3. The time has come. The stars are right. The planets align. GenCon is nearly upon us. And so the great Iymrith rises upon the Mountain peak. As Eldritch Lingtning ignites the cloudy skies and strikes the very Mountain Peak around her! She prepares for her journey to the great Gladiator Pits in a distant place known only as Indy. Where bands of skilled and Mighty warriors shall fight for her amusement, in the faint hopes to win her favor. She hopes not to be dissappointed, yet again. ----- Whew. This took me so very far out of my comfort zone! A real Trophy Style Base, LED Lighting Effects, Using Pine Bark Chips, Scraping off most of the Yellow Clear "Paint" I put on the Bolts, ect. BUT, she is done! And She Looks FREAKING AMAZING! Now to just put the finishing touches on the last couple prizes, and I'm done with this project! Anywho, Let me know what you think of her. Please tell me You like her and think I did a good job and that I did not just waste about a month on this for nothing. GF
  4. Pretty late in the mini to start a WIP but I could use some thoughts and suggestions, in particular in the area of contrast. I am looking to bring up the contrast on the scales but I don't want to shift to an orange or pink. The skin shows a decent contrast but to my eye it's more orange than red at this point. I love the different shading going on for each scale type but I want more from the upper body scales without going into orange and yellow. My challenge to myself this year is to gel my reds to be red. It's not an easy color to work with and a lot of these paints are either transparent or chalk when thinned. It has been a long road to get this far but I want a richer color. Thoughts would be welcomed along with critique. Pictures were snapped off my work bench but I will shoot for better ones this weekend. In the meantime... the photos are raw and taken without flash to try and show the pieces in the most natural light The body. Trying for three textures plus the crest. The heavy armored back scales are under layered with corpreal shadow to make them stand out, then shaded from a dark purple red to blood red. The body scales are undershaded with brick red and shaded up to a highlight of Phoenix red. The body skin on the arms starts at Gore red and shaded up to a lantern yellow. Problem is with the body. I would like more highlight but whatever I try changes the tone to either orange or pink. The head: still a work in progress. Needing to clean up the horns and again highlight without going to the orange or pink Upper side of wing. Looking pretty good although a set of missed mold lines is making me repaint the horns Wing underside. Subdued and darker as this part is solidly cast in shadow and the horns are in the process of being repainted... again So thanks again for anyone who would like to help out.
  5. So I'm currently in the stages of prepping Marthrangul for a contest. I'm also painting the Frost Giant Queen as a backup entry. So once I get started of love all the C&C I can get. I have a little less than a month to do him in.
  6. Learning from my previous forays into blending with wings, I decided to try for something more challenging. In doing this, I learned that sometimes the parts of bigger minis don't fit together as well as one hopes, which in this case resulted in some improvisation, especially around the foot/base socket and the wings. But I am enjoying how he came out. He was wondrously bumpy. :-)
  7. I had finished the dragon in December last year, but I still had the base to work on. Finally finished this brand new looking clockwork dragon painted with metallic paints and my favorite blue, Nightmare Black this weekend. I still have another, thinking of doing a rusty/tarnished version sometime.
  8. This one was painted up in a bit of a hurry for a D&D game. I'm pleased with the overall effect (especially the wing colouring), but I'd like to have taken a bit more time to make the scales pop. The wings were airbrushed to get the smooth blending; the rest was done with a hairy stick. Mostly Peacock Green, Brilliant Green and Viper Green, I think. With some yellow mixed in for highlights and a darker olive shade for the darker bits. The broken tower was made with a sheet of cork - i cut a load of blocks and made the edges a bit ragged, then did a lot of drybrushing and washing. The trailing vines came from a bag of lichen which got some brown wash to make it look slightly less pleasant.
  9. After 6 months of painting 4-10 hours a week on this monster, I am finally finished with Reaper Bones Ma'al Drakar 77580. WIP Here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/78573-citrine-tries-to-tackle-maaldrakar-77580/&tab=comments#comment-1668344
  10. Good evening folks, So here is one I just finished up, a really old school Partha Piece, don't recall her original name, but she's some kind of sorceress or Dragon Lady. Sculpted by Tom Meier, this one didn't have a year on the bottom, but I think this was probably sculpted originally 1977-1979 or so. I did the base as just one flat blue color, that as I look at it, I'm regretting. I might go back and do a little something with it. I didn't want to do a natural, grass and dirt base, because I didn't want to hide any of the dragon, who is not too large.

    A first post -

I've lurked for about a year - finally got up the courage to post. I've returned to painting after a break of many years. This is a recent figure I'm proud of (my photography skills however....) - hope you enjoy
  12. I painted this figure as a white 2 years ago, it took about 6 weeks of painting individual scales. When I was done I thought it would probably look just as good if I drybrushed it. I got the second one from a mini exchange or goodwill box, Dry brushing the body this time took 3 days. For the wings I was inspired by a bearded dragon. The nest was added per MiniSpawns request. It was a stretch goal freebie from Oathsworn's Sensible Shoes line. I have 2 bronze hatchlings as well, on TMM like the mother and one NNM.

    77379: Dracolisk

I took the dragon challenge last year and chose this figure. Midway into the painting my vision changed entirely. I still used the 3 chosen colors, but in a different way. Very happy with how it came out. Found the perfect base in my Bag of Crap, too. Sorry, camera lighting is not good. He is not so muddy looking in person.
  14. 77329: Silver Dragon identifying as a green dragon.
  15. My DM (and boyfriend) wanted this guy to be a white dragon...I obliged. Biggest project I’ve worked on so far and the only “white” project I’ve worked on so far. Love how he came out. I might base him at some point, but I was happy enough to bring him outside in the real snow for a photo shoot to start. I dont know when or why we will we will face this dragon... but either way- I’m frightened...
  16. Hi all! Just recently finished painting my first Ral Partha figure: a heavy-armored warrior and a pretty dragon! Getting the pieces to fit together was a bit of a hassle (maybe it was a bad mould?), but after I got that sorted out I decided to go to with a classic blue dragon look. Look at those chompers!!! Used MSP Dragon Blue (29815) for the scales and wings, Sparkling Blue (09104) for the plate scales on the spine, and a mix of the Blonde Triad for the belly scales, horns, and wings. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with this one. Certainly earned a display place on my desk.
  17. The second figure I painted this week, got quite a lot done. This is one of the Silver and Steel figures from the boxed sets based on Larry Elmore art. Once again, figuring out colors was a pain, especially it took forever for me to figure out what color I was going to paint the little dragon, and in the end, he just turns out to be green. Pale skin, dark hair, hopefully it was a good combination!
  18. With my bride away on a work trip this week, I decided to try to squeeze in a kinda big project... and after dithering about what it should be, I settled on painting one of my many Bones dragons. Blightfang was actually a main antagonist in a D&D campaign I ran a while back... so that's the one I decided to paint! Tonight was spent scrubbing him down, after he'd spent the day soaking in soapy water. I partly glued him together, and then got painting with Green Liner. I'm only partly assembling him, so that I can more easily access the harder to reach spots. Also the back legs don't fit well into the base he came with, so I'm thinking that I might need to make my own out of cork... And this was supposed to be a quick project... we'll see how I do.
  19. Finished the fire dragon, painted using a red and gold theme. Used lots of metallic paints mixed in with matte paint, especially on its torso. Hope I got the right effect. Tell me what you guys think, would appreciate it. P.S.: I'm a bad photographer so don't mind the shadows and the bad lighting in the pics... If need be i'll take another batch of photos.
  20. Just finished this little guy this week. Already had another dragon I decided to paint red so wnt with blue for this one. Tell me what you think.
  21. More small stuff from when I was ill. I decided to continue my Mostly Monochrome style challenge, but this guy is tiny. He has green and red eyes, but otherwise is an exercise in Violet. I didn't write those paints down sadly, but I think Icy Violet was one, and perhaps something like Violet Shadow...? And I used blue washes. It was fun trying to force the contrast on this one with limited colors. Anyway, tada!
  22. The Dragon Hatchling sculpts are cute, but the Bones casts are terrible. Due to this I didn't try to clean them up well and just put them on new bases. Either way it is two more models off the bench and painted to an acceptable toy box level...and so what if I painted the geen one red and the black one green! btw I touched up the splotchy black base rims after I took this picture. Comments encouraged, Mike
