  1. Finished this girl up today. My first stab at NMM using the NMM Gold triad - it didn't come out quite like I imagined, but then, it was a LOT of surface area to attempt it on .. Regardless, she was a lot of fun to paint up and even with the botched NMM, she's still a beauty. Also, the camera (the wife's Canon Powershot) made these pictures look sort of greenish - I don't know why.. I don't get this look with the phone camera.. /shrug :) Also, her claws are done in Antique Gold because I thought she should be a flashy lady. Because she's fighting for her life (or will be once I finish the evil adventuring party), I added fresh scorch marks for the holes in her wings. This was accomplished by blobbing on a bit of Pure Black and rubbing it around with my finger while it was still wet. Finger Painting a dragon.. who knew? I found what looks like a scar across her eye, but decided that since she's in the fight of her life right now, she might as well have a fresh wound. Coated the scar line with Gory Red. Then I dabbed a blob of Clotted Red at the bottom of the cut-line and blew it around to mimic the effects of moving her head while the fresh blood was flowing. (also thanks to @Pingo for the suggestion to use @Guindyloo's tutorial for eyes - I love how they came out ) Critique, comments and suggestions welcome as always.. WIP Here.
  2. Hi, here are thje photos of my "Dragons don't share", realized in december 2016. Hope you like it.
  3. Since one of my September goals is to at least start the terrain for Dragons Don't Share, I figured I should get cracking.. I opened the box a couple of weeks ago and after a couple of unsuccessful sessions with boiling / cooling, I resigned myself to basing of some sort. I picked up a slab of hobby plywood at the local hardware store and then proceeded to burn my dremel out trying to use it like a jigsaw. Since we were in between paydays, any further expenses had to wait. So, in the interim, I glued the top of the tower together and green-stuffed the spaces.. This morning, I picked up a jigsaw and cut up some pieces.. (you can see the burned wood where I was ruining my dremel) As a test, I have glued the smallest piece to the wood - I abortively used Contact Cement, which didn't stop the warpage even after it dried. A Bunch of superglue later, I was ready for a base layer. Stormy Grey, followed by a wash of RedStone, followed by a wash of Stormy Grey (to cut the redness somewhat) and a thin wash of Misty Grey. After all that, I remembered that I had picked up Stone Wash on a whim a while back (after doing Narthrax's rocks maybe?), so after this mess dries and I get done with the kids for the evening, I'll see what that does to it .. There's a lot of stone here and this is going to take me a good long while to do :)
  4. I painted up Aquarius and Virgo as statues for my Dragons Don't Share Ruins. My WIP is here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/71651-dragons-dont-share-2/ I am still working on the overall but I was happy with how my "statues" turned out so wanted to share them in a Show Off! I can't get over how cute these two little minis are. I had no idea they were so cute. I will be buying more to paint as "normal" but I think they make excellent statues as well! Pictures of Virgo in first reply.
  5. Hello All, So, it has been a few days since i saw light of the forums, but catching up slowly on what i missed :) Thought i would share my ideas and progress on possibly one of the most stunning miniatures i own! Dragon's Don't Share... I love it by the way :) From the moment it arrived! This is a present for my dad, he is 50 next year and we play dungeons and dragons so this will be perfect for him! So, my idea is to have the rock that the dragon stands on with marble effect (I know it is from the tower but hear me out) the chances are, my dad will want the dragon separate on display more than the tower :) So this allows him to do so, it also will give fantastic contrast to the rest of tower ;) So far I have primed, base coated, 3 steps on my marble effect, and i have started to wash two sections of the tower. Note, i brush primed this bad boy as it was raining and cold outside! It took TIME! :D If anyone has any thoughts/ideas on how i might improve my marble effect i would appreciate it :) Note it it doesn't look all that neat on the floor, which will be charred earth around the dragon :) this will be done when i have finished with the milky washes and pigment :) Anyway, here are some progress pics on it, hope you all like and please please give me feedback on this one, good or bad i want to improve and get better so please comment away :) <3 Elli x
  6. Colors are a little off from my lighting, he's more red than orange and not as shiny in person. My light box isn't quite big enough to fit him.
  7. I started painting up DDS2 while I decide on what I want to do with Khanjira. I'm trying to decide which color I want to go with on the wings in the last picture, I like them both.
  8. Well, I not only finished my dragon, I got her entered into the ReaperCon painting contest, and earned a bronze. I then went and got her professionally photographed cause I knew I'd never be able to do her justice. She's currently displayed, along with the medal, in the place of honor on my mantle above the fireplace. "Good night, Nathavarr. Good work. I'll most likely dump you in simple green in the morning." I am thinking about repainting the treasure on her base in bronze...
  9. So I recently completed 77381: Dragons Don't Share as a goblin challenge. You can see the process I went through over in my WIP thread (http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/72361-dragons-dont-share-challenge/). You can see the results here. First up, the Dragon! It's hard to get good pictures of him; the paint I used for his scales is actually fairly high gloss. He isn't quite as monochrome as he looks here, but he is pretty monochrome. You can't see it well here, but he has a bit of a tendency to lean forward. I may need to come up with a more elaborate mounting method to prevent that. You can also see the hoard he's refusing to share under the scenery which makes his base. That makes a nice segue into scenery (which will be next post).
  10. Sooooo.... I did this little thing last week... no big deal, just painted DDS2 in 7 days with nothing larger than a size 0 brush. WIP is here if you missed it: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/72422-guindyloo-vs-dds2-in-7-days/ I pulled it out of the pantry to take a few extra pictures......so it's a lot of pictures. And because it's me, the pictures are terrible. I try, I really do, but I'm just extremely incompetent when it comes to taking pictures. First of all, group shots: Then here are some natural daylight shots that I took between my patio door and curtains. It's frustratingly hard to get true to colour pictures of any kind of green-ish blue and for some reason, I can only get the left side of the dragon's face to show properly in regular daylight. I don't know why I can't get the right side of the face to show properly. Treasure piles, which were one of the last things that I painted and shockingly, my hands stayed pretty steady for it. And finally some unfortunately terrible pictures of the adventurers: C&C always very, very welcome!
  11. ...will be starting this weekend. But first, I had to do a little cleanup. Here's a before/after of mildly tidying up my workspace. I was tempted to post this in Show Off (cleaning is a project!), but that was just a little too cute. Either way, I'll be diving into an ill-advised project soon enough. Probably starting Friday evening. Edit: This challenge was done under Goblin Challenge Roolz, described here: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/69639-7-day-goblin-challenge-official-rules/?p=1396173 Final result is up at http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/72501-77381-dragons-dont-share/
  12. This is the year to finish (or at least make major progress on) the epic Dragons Don't Share bones II model. To start with, the washing... and the boiling... And finally, the base elements are ready for cleaning: More details can be found here and here. More to come in the weeks ahead.
  13. Hi all, I painted a while back the ruins and the dragon Nathavarr from "Dragons don't share 2" but never posted it as I wanted to have the whole set painted, including all the heroes, before doing so. So far, I still haven't touched the heroes yet... But while playing "pretend" with the kids, we started making a little scenery using DDS2 and a lots of dwarves I had around (some Reapers and old GW), all this while listening to "Diggy Diggy Hole". We had a great time and I thought the result was fun enough to take pictures and post. The whole model is coated with a thick layer of clear coat to withstand playtime with the kids, but this gave a weird blue hue to the stonework... The hardest part was to move the whole thing into my light box without having all minis fall over (most of them still did)... and manage to fit the model on the backdrop (the whole DDS2 scenery and the dragon wingspan is huge). So here it is: And Nathavarr by him (or her)self:
  14. I recently picked up the Dragons Don't Share boxed set, and was really taken with the terrain pieces. So I decided to undertake a hefty terrain project. The Bones pieces and slate were glued to a cork sheet, which was then glued to the back of a metal pizza pie plate. The ground was covered with small tallus pebbled, and then with a sand mix. Many different grades of static grass, flock, tufts, wildflowers, climbing ivy and moss covering were used to finish off the base and rubble. Hope you like it. 15. This is not my work but since it involves the tower that comes with Dragons Don't Share I thought folks might be interested. There is some seriously nice work going on here and Kevin does a nice job stepping through his process. http://mageknightkevin.blogspot.com/2015/11/ruined-tower-large-terrain-project-step.html
  16. Hi all, I finished up my Dragons Don't Share diorama that I've been working on for about three weeks. It's on display at a local game shop, so apologies for the pictures not being super high quality. You can see the in-progress pics over at my WIP thread at: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.php?/topic/60821-77381-dragons-dont-share-2014-wip-blackgray-and-red-dragon/ The heroes' color choices were done to match the five factions playing a role in the current D&D public play storylines.
  17. This is going to be a long WIP, but I might as well get it started... My dragon for this is going to be green. I whipped up a photoshop color job of what I'm planning My ruins will be more jungle themed, I think.
  18. Greetings, all. It's been a while, I know - but I have embarked on my largest project to date, a combination terrain piece and diorama, which is sure to delight and amaze - all based around the Dragons Don't Share pack from Reaper Bones II: Assembled from: 1 sheet 1" thick Insulation Foam (started 20"x20") 1 23" diameter 3/4" thick plywood disk (nice and solid and should make it a lot more durable) 1 Dragons Don't Share set from Reaper 1/2 small tub of pre-mixed Plaster (may use some more to add some rocky patches and small cliff faces to the build) My plan for the rest of this project are as follows: Maybe use some model Railroad molds to add some rocky features to the diorama Seal the Plaster and Wood with a generous helping of brown craft paint (its only purpose is to separate the various materials from the spray primer I use, so that it doesn't stink up the place for months) Apply a layer of glue and sand to blend the contours together Spray prime Black (maybe? I haven't decided between Black, White, or Zenithal painting for the initial primer layer) Paint as normal, probably finishing in a few months' time. I'll keep you all posted as this project moves along!
