  1. Finishing up some minis, including a small coterie of spider centaurs and their demon mistress. These are two of Gene Van Horne's "Arachnid Archers". I had a lot of fun painting them. Front views are linked offsite because of nudity. Front views: http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u439/PingoPaints/Miniatures/Female%20Driders%201_zpspjgm3vbn.jpg http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u439/PingoPaints/Miniatures/Female%20Driders%202_zpsxvv1dozb.jpg http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u439/PingoPaints/Miniatures/Female%20Driders%203_zpsgye2xhwm.jpg I am especially pleased at how the red one came out. In person she looks translucent like a pomegranate seed: Companion pieces: 77180: Shaerileth, Spider Demoness and 77181: Arachnid Warrior WIP thread here.
  2. Here is the Drider from the Monsters set. I stuck to the suggested color scheme as well as I could. I got a little lazy toward the end. You can see I forgot to do any shading on the bowstring. The original hand and small crossbow were lost, but my friend had a nice replacement that I managed to cluge in there, though the wrist is at a fairly extreme, but not totally unbelievable, angle. I hope you enjoy.
  3. The thread about the Drider and centaur I Frankensteined up from some Reaper and Citadel parts reminded me of this little gem I put together this summer as part of a coterie of Drow. I was originally inspired by the Reaper Bones Conversions thread Chaoswolf started, which had some cool examples of substituting Bones torsos on the Bones Dark Elf Arachnid Warriors. Since Bones are so easy to cut and carve up and glue together, I thought I'd give it a try. So this is the spider body from Reaper #77182, Arachnid Archer, and the upper half of #77057, Juliette, Female Sorceress. I carved her carefully to leave a peg for the spider body, and I've carved out little sockets on the spider body for the bags and flasks around her waist. This is a dry fitting, where you can see the way the two pieces more or less fit together under the waist: Here she is glued. I used epoxy (I know, I know, but I like its space-filling qualities). I left it thin on the back of her torso and added another layer once it had dried, let it get to the gloopy sticky phase, and carved some striations in it with a bamboo skewer to match the hairiness of the spider body. Here she is primed with Reaper Brown Liner, ready to paint:
  4. More Stuff I did on Summer Vacation. PingosHusband gave me a set of Citadel "Sisters of the Thorn", female wood elves riding what are supposed to be deer, I think (although they have solid hooves and their antlers attach weirdly). Anyhow, they look pretty cool. The set also could make up some hunky shirtless male riders in creepy antlered masks, and I ended up making one of those along with four of the females. And then there were parts left over. Sooo ... I had enough to make one more full male torso and one female torso lacking hair (and three male torsos that need hair and right arms, but that's a project for another day ...). Well, what can you do with a torso? Obviously, make centaurs (horse or spider) out of them. I lugged out my bin o' Bones and found 77264: Female Centaur sculpted by Sandra Garrity (There's a male centaur too, but interestingly the female "horse" part is larger and more robust than the male.) and 77182: Arachnid Archer sculpted by Gene van Horne. I ruthlessly sliced off the human torso from the centaur and used a pin because I'm not sure how well epoxy adheres to Bones. I carved the waist of the spider body a little to fit the elf torso, but I didn't take pictures of that. This is the figure fitted in but not yet glued. There wasn't any hair for this torso, so her face is only a hollow mask glued to the neck at a tiny contact point at the back of the chin, fragile and just a little creepy. I mixed up some epoxy and drizzled little comma-shapes onto parchment paper, let them dry, and peeled them off. Then I mixed more epoxy and blobbed it into the back of the elf's skull and added dried epoxy commas until it looked more or less like hair. Here are the two of them done:
  5. This was a diorama entry in the Crystal Brush competition at Adepticon last month. (The Adepticon 2018 picture thread is here, new images still being added.) Does anyone recognize the spider-centaur queen figure at the top? Someone asked me what mini it was and I couldn’t answer.
  6. This was the ultimate fate of the character I mentioned in two earlier posts. Raven Switchsword. The waists of the two miniatures lined up very neatly. The torch is Nienna's original sword shaved down (it is the Bones version so very easy to do). The flames are painted tracing paper.
  7. I recently finished a set of several spider centaurs and a big spider demoness as part of my conga line of year-end finishing projects. These are two male "arachnid warrors" with some sort of eldritch swords. I had a lot of fun painting them. WIP thread here. Companion pieces: 77180: Shaerileth, Spider Demoness and 77182: Arachnid Archer
  8. A few things about this figure: She is part of my year-end conga line of finishing up half-done minis. I did not glue her abdomen together or to her body. It is in two parts like a little clamshell box and for some reason this tickles me. I picture her as like a very weird gift box for something small and valuable. Frontal pictures are linked off-site due to forum nudity policy. In order to avoid distracting shadows I photographed her on a sheet of plexiglass in front of grey cards ... and then I was enchanted by the shadow and reflection patterns anyway and ended up playing with them. Spiders have such beautiful shadows! Like so: Anyhow, I've cropped most of the shadow and reflection play out, but it's there in most of the original photos. Front view linked for nudity: http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u439/PingoPaints/Miniatures/Shaerelith%201_zpslv9cxz3w.jpg Show Off posts of her minions: 77181 Arachnid Warriors and 77182: Arachnid Archers WIP thread here.
  9. I've gone back and forth about starting this thread since I started painting these last April. Shaerileth and the female spider-centaur are topless, so I need to link pictures owing to nudity. But heck, I guess talking about how I'm painting them can help people so I'm giving it a go anyway. The male spider-centaurs, faces, and backs will be shown. Any front female torsos will be linked to, as per Reaper's forum policy. So anyhow, these are Bones plastic, so fairly lightweight. I primed them all with Reaper's "Brown Liner", the acrylic paint that sticks to Bones no matter what, thinned down somewhat. http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u439/PingoPaints/Miniatures/2015/Driders/0418-007-Lolth_zpsmptc3gnm.jpg http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u439/PingoPaints/Miniatures/2015/Driders/0418-010-driders_zpsoicoszxa.jpg
  10. After finishing Gendrick, I needed to get cracking hard on my "Companions of the Hall" diorama. This is going to be the 5 Companions [Drizzt, Cattibrie, Bruenor, Wulfgar, Regis, and Guenhwyver (Drizzt's panther)] vs the Spider Queen (Lloth) and one of her Giant Spider riding henchmen. It's inspired by the D&D Forgotten Realms setting, specifically books by R.A. Salvatore. I know some people don't like this setting, but my brother is a huge fan and I'm a pretty big fan of Salvatore's work as well. The scene I have in mind will be the Companions battling the Spider Queen and her servant, I'll be using a very large piece of wood and bark that I got from Thrym and his WoldStand store, very cool (link to his blog and how he did prepared the wood display piece with many pictures to show size). I need to get this done before December 21st when he arrives at my house, so I'll be trying to work on it most days of the week between now and then. I've got most of them cleaned up and primed (or brown-liner slathered in the case of the Spider Queen). First off the cast: GOOD GUYS - YAY GO TEAM GO!! Drizzt - Dark Elf Ranger: DSM 7421 (Male Dark Elf Warrior) Wulfgar - Massive Human Barbarian: DSM 7429 (Barbarian with Warhammer) Cattibrie - Human Female Fighter/Archer: DSM 7431 (Female Ranger w/ Bow) Bruenor - Dwarf King and Fighter: Reaper (Gerrin Goblinkicker SKU#03541) - I've already chopped off one of his helm horns (as Bruenor has) and filed off the spike on his shield (which will get a foaming mug on it in its place) Guenhwyver - Massive Black Panther: Reaper (Tiger SKU# 3668) Regis - Halfling Thief: Otherworld OWM-DAD12 (Halfling Thief, Demi-Human, Dungeons Adventurers) - This one will be arriving in a couple of days, it was on back-order for almost two months. EVIL GUYS - BOO! HSSS!! Drow Giant Spider Rider - RAFM RAF4546 (Vanir Spider Lancer) Lloth the Spider Queen, Goddess - Reaper (77180: Shaerileth, Spider Demoness) - NSFW she's nude on top so I won't be showing pics of her unless I mod her to cover her top, will make that determination later. That's it for tonight everyone, will be updating fast and furious as I go through this project. Comments, Advice, and Critiques are welcomed and appreciated!
  11. HI ! This is m'y last miniature for fun ... Visible here (WARNING ... Boobs ^^ ) : https://octopusworkshop.wordpress.com/2015/05/19/reaper-shaerileth-spider-demoness/
  12. this was one of my summer exchange miniatures this year. Even though some of the pictures came out slightly blurrier than I would have liked the overall effect is one i really liked. The drider is metal, the queen and the well are bones. The base is marble. Part I'm most proud of: getting the drider into a submissive bow. I don't know that I could have done it with the bones material. Oh and the piece above the queens head is a bit of Sumatran Amber. Enjoy the view. Comments and critiques always welcome!
  13. It felt like painting something out of my childhood with this (I'll confess to being really into the whole Drow thing for a while for the very, very obvious reason): This was my second Bones piece (I painted one of the IMEF guys for my brother, as he thinks it's cool I'm painting and is supporting my whimsy and wanted some space marines as he's a huge Mass Effect fan; still have another to do). It really seems to paint differently than the metal, but maybe I'm just imagining it. I'm following the general guidelines I see for them, but anyway. Could NOT find one of these painted to give me ideas, and I kind of had a hard time telling where her top ended, neckline-wise. So did some ballparking there. Turned out purpler than I'd've liked, maybe--I want to work on mixing a grayer shade for the base coast before I do any more dark elves (I have the male arachnid, the queen, some others. Yay)--but I was kind of happy wth my highlights. Still working to brighter brighter brighter them. But I had a lot of fun. And it totally creeps my wife out. So there's that. As always, advice for improving, her or especially in general, is totally appreciated.
  14. So, I'm really bored tonight and was looking at the KS rewards and the name Spider Centaurs kept catching my attention. I can't get the image of centaurs (regular, horse-human ones) dressed up in red and blue and swinging around their forest on spider webs after being bitten by magical spiders. I propose that henceforth these model be referenced (at least unofficially) as Arachnitaurs. That is all.
  15. I really need to make the Scorpion Man into a female archer (preferably an elf/drow, but I can add the ears if I need to.) I ordered the torso from the Isiri Arachnid Archer figure (14517) but it looks seriously tiny in comparison to the scorpion body. does anybody have any other suggestions? I looked through the Reaper site and I couldn't find anything that seemed right. I'm totally willing to hack a mini in half if I need to - Can anyone suggest something that would be the right scale? It doesn't have to be Reaper, but I don't know a lot of other brands.
