  1. Hey all, just finished up my first Bones figure! Here he is, Mr Troll: Pretty rough paint job all things considered, could spend more time on it but I'm calling him done. Good enough to game with. I thought I'd also put up a few other bits and pieces I've completed over the years (it's a pretty rare occurrence). Here's a Warhammer Dwarf Lord: Felix does the best Dwarf sculpts IMHO, GW shouldn't have let him go. Actually, better that they did, he's doing great work with Avatars of War. Some old-school GW, Man O War Dwarf Nautiluses (Nautili?): These were the ones I had difficulty removing the mould lines from due to some slippage of the moulds in the casting process. Can't just phone up for a replacement these days, though. And finally some Militia from Urban War/Void: Really need to finish the bases on these guys, but I'm not sure what I want. Might give them some resin ones at some point (cause I'm a bit lazy like that). I actually painted these guys using only the colours that came in a Vallejo starter set, it was a fun little challenge, particularly getting the denim colour right. Well, that's it for now, comments and thrown pottery welcome as always.
  2. And here is another of my dwarven chieftain, Vigatharn, Alird (dwarven for "Gold Lord) of the Emerald Clan. Had to remove the weapons, since he doesn't use weapons, and his backpack.
  3. Here's is my first mini for the show off forum! wohoo! It's Thorgram, Dwarf Warlord, 14042, painted up as the chieftain of the Thumbbreaker Clan, Thorzin Thumbbreaker. I learned a lot on using blending on this guy and thinning paints. Hope you like him
  4. Cecilia, the Hefty Halfling is a D&D bard/fighter character I am currently playing. She once got the party into a fight with killer mushrooms when she tried to collect them for a stew. And when the battle was over, she still made her stew. This is a Bones figure, with minimal prep. I didn't use any primer, but I did glue her to a gaming base, and extended the base she came with into more rock and dirt using green stuff. I missed a mold line or two, but otherwise, she's not too bad. The surface was not as smooth as polished and primed metal, but for a tabletop mini, that's ok. My friend bought the Vampire Level Bones Kickstarter set, and I'm on deck to paint all the minis for our PCs, so I'm not putting in a lot of time on each one. This one took me 4 hours, including prep. I was lazy about planning a palette, and stole it from a Reaper Paint Crew paint job of another figure. Bonus points if you can identify which one! (The Paint Crew job is much better than mine, especially since this is speed paint.)
  5. Hello Gamers! I took all of the wonderful advice I received from you guys & gals from my previous post and tried to implement it into this Dwarven fighter. Please let me know what you think and how I can improve on my next mini. Thanks ahead of time. Take care.
  6. This is a dwarven battle squid that my adventure group can encounter on the (RPG) adventure game board; they are friendly and will help the group if they are paid enough gold...otherwise they just get drunk with my group at the overnight camp site.
  7. I just got back into painting mini's. I had to stop several years ago because school got in the way, and a few personal issues. But now, I have patience, a better hand and understanding, and I'm proud of my first mini especially after such a long absence. Here's my mini. He's for my DnD Eberron Campaign. His name is Skaven, the Dwarf Fighter. He's level two at the moment. But his favorite thing is riding his soldier ant Pete (whom I tamed on a natural roll of twenty with no modifiers), smoking his pipe, and dual welding his warhammer and hand axe. Have a look and tell me what you think.
  8. Kryn the Red, from the STonehaven Dwarves line. Here she is basecoated. I put down the red and green first, and was worried that she'd turn into Mrs. Claus, but the yellow really helps break it up. I'm planning on putting gold metallic on much of what is now yellow. I also plan to highlight the crap out of her clothes - taking the red and green all the way to white to really emphasize the bright colors.
  9. This is my (NPC) character that is used in the adventure games played by (The Seekers). Voltar will join the group when (1 or more) regular characters are unable to attend a gaming session. It has not happened too often; my group tends to be serious about & dedicated to the game saga.We play every other week (they have been on the saga for 5 months) and Voltar has only joined the group 4 times.
  10. So I ordered a couple of bags of 1" slotted tiles from frp this weekend and I went a bit nuts and Now I have a wip thread just for this order.... So posting in order of interest to me. Or something like that, it's late and I'm pissed my tengu necromancer didn't get to cast animate dead on that troll he just killed. Nice cheap mini. freebooter lillith So after last week we had 2 pc deaths in my game and one of the new players (I have a weak spot to make sure they get attached to their characters) rolled a ratfolk alchemist who wear's full plate and I stumbled apon this in the sale rack.... Had to get it. So this is my first ever resin mini... I must say I don't like the way it behaves it's easy to clean/carve but it's brittle, also takes a Lot more prep work than reaper's bones or worst metal mini's. Game is tomorrow so I suspect I will base it and toss it on the table and paint it later. scibor miniature rat warrior [/url] And we come to the pilot... I have been eying some of these busts for a WHILE now and I noticed they keep putting them on 40-70% sells so I figured now is the time to press myself in the corner and learn something new. I'm really excited to get started on him but a bit worried too. At this point I had to do a LOT of clean up, it came covered in resin bubbles that I had to scrape off with the back of my eXcato and other minor things. scibor mini dwarf pilot lenoardo
  11. Hi guys. I recently got back into making mini's. My first one is making a Dwarf Fighter for my DnD RP Sessions. The problem I'm having is, I don't know where to start. I have a basic idea on what I want, but I just, can't push forward with it. Do you guys have any suggestions on how I should approach this and where I can start? I'll even take suggestions on what to do. I'm just to frustrated to think. Any help or tips you guys give me is much appreciated. Thank you. P.S. Here are a couple of photo's of what my mini looks like.
  12. A friend gave me this figure...it looked so different from the standard dwarf figures. I painted it for my private collection. He told me it was some foreign company but had no information data on it. It was fun to paint and had great figure details.
  13. I saw this set in my hobby shop and thought that it was a great looking set...bought it...painted it...and this vignette is the final results. For myself, I paint figures that I like and that I figure I would enjoy painting...so I have no real topic or title type of figures in my collection.
  14. Well here is my entry for the Wamp forum Avatars of War contest. I am reasonably happy with the result. There are some truely amazing entries over there so if you haven't yet, go and check it out. Still playing with doing different things with mettalics. Trying to give them some color in the darkest recesses. My camera skills still suck, but I'm working on it. LoL. One other note, I am also working on trying to do actual color schemes using the colorwheel. I think it went pretty well. I think the pink flower on the back of the totem is one of my favorite parts.
  15. So I mentioned in my WIP thread for my mohawk dwarf that I was working on dwarven chieftains for the other main clans in the world my husband has created for D&D. I figured while I was taking pictures of the mohawk dwarf (Chieftain of the Erdunir Clan Emerald) that I should make a WIP thread for the rest of them too. First up, chief of the MagmaFist Clan, (14561) King Axehelm of Kragmarr. He's a mountain dwarf. Chief of the duergar SteelSilk clan, (14324) Herryk Aesir. Chief of the Thumbbreaker Clan, also mountain dwarves, (14042) Thorgram. Chief of the deep dwarf Dulvine Clan, (02472) Thain Grimthorn, with weapon modifications. Chief of the hill dwarf Longfang Clan, (02229) Brag Ironballs (te-he!). Last, but not least, the chieftain of the derro dwarves (whose clan name I can't remember..), from MegaMiniatures. That's a lot of dwarves...
  16. With all these great looking miniatures being posted, I thought I'd show off the other end of the spectrum with my latest beginner level dwarf :) I got some feedback on my last mini that I neglected the metallics, so I tried to do a little better this time. C&C welcome!
  17. Ok, I'm calling this guy done. This is my second mini in 20 years, it's not the greatest but I like him. (It doesn't look too bad a few feet away :) Here is the WIP: http://www.reapermini.com/forum/index.php?/topic/47472-scibor-dwarf-ulfar-wip/ Thanks for fixing the photo, Badocter! Comments and critique/tips welcome.
  18. Thought I would try doing a WIP for this Scibor Monstrous Miniatures dwarf I'm painting. (I really like their dwarves) I started with the face using the MSP tanned skin triad going dark to light. I tried adding some white for the final highlights on his face and noticed he was starting to sparkle. My guess is pearl white is not a good white to use. I painted over the sparkly bits since this dwarf isnt going to be an angsty teen vampire and called it quits on the face, I'll finish that at the end. Next I base coated his gambeson in Terran khaki, intending to shade and highlight with khaki shadow and khaki highlight. Then I got a great idea to just use a wash to get in all the folds. I'm not too happy with the way the wash turned out. That's it for the first session. Next time I'm going to see if I can fix the gambeson, finish base coating, do a little lining, then try to make him look pretty. Suggestions welcomed! .
  19. Ok finally finished this miniatrue, he's painted quickly aiming for tabletop standard only. In the end I did paint a bit more detail than I had originally intended but he hasn't had the level of attention most of the character models I've done recently have recieved. He was rebased onto a Back-2-Base-ix 25mm Celtic Ruins base as part of an early experiement in finding out how hard that would be (easy it turns out).
  20. Some of you may have been following my WIP thread over in that section, but here is the finished product. I got a new camera for Xmas and have been experimenting with the photography and adjustments I need to make switching from taking shots with my iPhone 4 as I've done in the past. The cardiac ICU has been crazy for the past month, so this miniature has been quite the ongoing project; much more so than I usually put into a figure. I used MonkeySloth's 'ice base' technique for creating an icy riverbed with adjacent rock-scapes; I then added snow for scenic character. I hope you enjoy.

    Santa Dwarf

Santa Dwarf comes to give all the good dwarves their favorite holiday gift! Wait what? Reaper made a "real" Santa Dwarf? That one seems unlikely to be as popular as this fellow come Christmas morning. C&C appreciated. This is the first Stonehaven Dwarf that I've painted, he was lots of fun. I tried to rely less on washing and drybrushing on this guy, and I think his shirt in particular is a big improvement over my previous minis. He's shinier than I'd like, but I'll have to wait until spring before I can hit him with Dullcote. (I used GW Hardcoat, then watered down Reaper Matte Sealant). Also my first usage of a resin base (this one came with the dwarves), and I made the mistake of painting the base then gluing him on - then I had to repaint part of the base which didn't come out quite right. I tried to cover up my mistake with dark brown and call it "shadows."
  22. I am quite the amatuer when it comes to painting minis. However, I find it a lot of relaxing fun. My D&D group is only halfway (?) through the original full DragonLance modules, so we need a lot of minis for all of the characters! The problem I run in to is finding a mini that best suits the character. Case in point was finding a female dwarven monk for my new character Ulfa. I couldn't find anyone without big weapons! I came across "03363: Dannin Deepaxe, Female Dwarf" and decided to try my hand at modification. I removed the axe and shield and tried to reform the hands. Not the best photographer, but here are the results:
  23. Well, first time someone came to me to ask me to paint something for them. I've found it on the Paizo website but not sure if it was manufactured by Reaper or not. Was a fun piece to paint although I was going for a brassy look on the rifle and think I missed. It turned out ok just a little different than I was aiming for. Sorry about the lack of background, I finished him up this morning and had to run out the door to deliver him to the client (we were running in a game together today) And, as always, please don't hesitate to critique my work...
  24. So I was really excited after the Kickstarter ended .. so I picked up the only Bones mini I could find! Please be kind I haven't even been painting for a year yet .. so i am still learning. Please excuse his unfinished base too. :) I have to say I am even MORE excited to get all the Kickstarter figures now. Okie! I worked on finishing the base today and snapped a couple of different images. :) Front Back I think my biggest challenge is still highlighting. I welcome notes :)
  25. These Reaper dwarves are old school, circa 1995, sculpted by Bob Olley. Enjoy! More photos in my gallery: http://www.mamageekminis.com/gallery.html?index=55&gal=11
