  1. Hi there, I haven't been posting here for quite some time. But I have some finished minis I wanted to share with you. This is a a player character in my recently finished D&D Tyranny of Dragons campaign. A shield dwarf warlock, Fey Patron (Prince of Ice) with Pact of the Blade (or here: an magical ice axe, that's why it's white). I really liked painting this miniature, it has great facial details. I hope you like it. [edit] Here are the rest of the player characters of the campaign. I posted some of them some time ago in 2016 ^^
  2. Just a few figures from the latest wave of Wizkid's Dungeons & Dragons: Nolzur's Marvelous Miniatures line. I think the line has improved a lot. For whatever reason, my phone didn't want to focus on the thin Dragonborn faces. The only non-Dragonborn in the crew, a "Female Dwarf Barbarian". She seems a bit heavily armored for that role to me, but I was impressed with her design from the first render preview.
  3. My fellow 5e player who also plays a dwarf, asked if I would be willing to slap some paint on a dwarf for him after he saw my Ivar conversion. While the Dain mini is a little ornate, I think he'll paint up fairly quickly. Let's see if I can't get him done by Wednesday. First I washed him in warm soapy water, and gave him a good scrub with a toothbrush. Then I clipped off his base, and used my trusty Happy Seppuku base stamp to help him match my Ivar mini. After giving him a day to dry, I coated him in Brown Liner. And painted the eyes with Linen White, and Viper Green. Then did the skin with a 50/50 mix of warrior flesh and ruddy flesh, the beard and horns with auburn shadow, and the bedroll with muddy olive. More to come!
  4. One of the quick commissions I picked up at Con of the North 2 weeks ago. Only 2 hours on her, so nothing super special. Though it is the 2nd time I've painted her.
  5. Been playing this silly board game with my siblings called Quartz where you all play dwarven miners who mine for valuable gems. The day marker that comes with the game is just a lame little yellow piece of wood, so I set out to find something better to replace it. Ended up settling on the pack mule with plans to paint it gold. Then for no reason whatsoever it occurred to me that maybe it would be fun for each player to have their own little dwarf character that does absolutely nothing in the game itself. So I added pretty much every Dwarf that Reaper sells to my cart as well. My goal was to paint the pack mule with Vallejo liquid gold and all the dwarves with a bronze-like metal paint. Below is the result, and keep in mind I have never painted before... You may notice that two of these are not dwarves. Well I would counter that by telling you that one of them is an undead dwarf brought back to life by the sheer need to mine fancy gems, while the other is a tavern wench who's legs I MAY have chopped off to make her dwarf height. So for all intents and purposes, she is a dwarf. I used Vallejo Liquid Gold on the mule and MSP Dwarven Gold (mixed with varying amounts of MSP Dragon Black) on the dwarves. Also shaded them with MSP Sepia Wash then sealed them up with Vallejo Satin Varnish. Oh and fun fact, if you want to add heft to a 32mm round base a sacagawea coin fits perfectly inside and adds just the right amount of weight. Also threw on a 32mm washer.
  6. As I'm actually getting to play 5e, and it looks like I'll get to keep playing for a while, I figured I should go ahead and pick a mini to represent my dwarven wizard. Now, he isn't your typical wizard, even for a dwarf, as he goes around in a chain shirt and swings his warhammer. So the Dwarf Wizard minis, as fun as they are, are out. Going through my Bones collection, I came across this guy: Ivar, Dwarf ClericNot a perfect fit, especially the backpack, but not bad. Also going against him was the fact that his hammer was miscast on my copy.So... to work!I started by removing the backpack, and giving him a good scrub to make sure any mold remover was washed off. Then I had to find a new hammer. The Bones Weapon Sprues had one that worked. Just about the right size...Clipped off the old hammer, drilled out the hand...And while I was at it, I cut off all the decorative stuff off the backpack, and trimmed the base. Then using my Happy Seppuku courtyard stamp, I gave him a fancier base to stand on. It's hard to see, but the pin is already in his hand, and you can sort of see the hole drilled in the shaft of the hammer. And here it is all glued together!Hmm... the anvil in the middle of the backpack... just doesn't do it for me. So I ripped the backpack off, and went back to my bits box.In the end I cut the bedroll and lower bag completely away, and used some greenstuff and superglue to put it all back. The barrel is from one of the Games Workshop Brettonian Infantry kits... I think the bottle might be as well, but I'm not 100% on that. I'm still debating adding a length of rope to the backpack... but otherwise, the modding is done, and it's time to get painting!
  7. It's always a pleasure painting Reaper Dwarfs.
  8. While not really themed, all these minis were left over from my other projects. I think they'll all find a home in "Tesrora, the City That Can't Be Tamed", the fantasy ganglands campaign I'm working on for this year. Ametrine Earthlyte, Dwarf Alchemist. A recent Reaper 25th Anniversary miniature. A rude Dwarf Thug. I started on him to go with RPE's "Dwarf Veterans Warband" as a thug. Converted from the Avatars of War Berserkers, Mantic Dwarf Bear-thing riders, and an old Mordheim club. I realize I couldn't directly post most of the shots of the Orc Matron per forum rules, so linked to my FB shots instead. 9. Who doesn't love Halflings in Mittens? Wait, that's not the name of the set? Why not? Alright, it turns out they're actually "The Winter Adventurers" from a recent Midlam Miniatures Kickstarter. As always, Midlam delivers nice old-school designs with newer sculpting methods and details. I think quite highly of the company. The Halflings in Mittens: Wizards and their apprentices: The Dwarfette: A human scout. I tried to go with an Inuit look for her. Every party has that guy:
  10. Painted this guy up to act as our dwarven barbarian for some Adventurers League gaming at an upcoming con. Messing around with skin tones. I may go back and add some tattoos before I finish coating him with varnish (he's got one coat of gloss right now). Am not sure what to put on him, other than maybe the rune for anger.
  11. Cute little dwarf from Bones 3. I painted her up to look like my priest in World of Warcraft. She is adorable! I still need to practice black hair but I like how she turned out and she is for kicking elf on the table so she's good to go. I practiced doing some plaid on her top. She also has a little bottle strapped to her waist. Is it a healing potion? Poison? Or just wine? Who will try it and find out?
  12. It took longer than I expected to get these guys done, but I'm happy with how they came out. They're part of the Warhammer Battle for Skull Pass set that I bought in 2007. The base is a bit uneven as when I glued down the back of a blister pack for the stonework it split open and I covered it in with gravel. In the future I'm going to have to use something else as it really didn't register as "stone" to my eye, but the cannon covers most of it at least. The powder barrel is a small Reaper bones barrel I've had for awhile, the cannon balls are 25mm airsoft ammo and the coffee pot is from an old Marx toy factory dollhouse set. Vastly overscale until one thinks about the thirst of the average dwarf! I had the idea of adding some thing for each dwarf, ammo for the hauler, gun powder for the engineer, and coffee for the swabber with the mug. The aforementioned gap filling. Base of craft paint Pavement with Stormy Gray and Rainy Gray drybrushed over it. The crew in Maxwell House colors. The swabber looks to be well on his way to caffinated bliss!
  13. I got my brother a set of Reaper's core paints for Christmas -- he's just getting into painting. Since I ordered them in November, I wound up with FOUR of the silver anniversary Dain Deepaxe, and offered to help him break in his paints by painting this one up. This one came damaged -- missing half of one horn and with a crack down the center of the mini. You can see it on his right shoulder. I decided to paint this one because the damage made it more interesting: clearly, he's been in desperate combat against some dread beast whose terrible claws clove straight through his horn and cracked his armor before he finally laid it low. I've also decided not to ask for a replacement. Even after giving one to my brother, I've got two unpainted ones left. That'll be plenty, thanks. His left arm is also different from stock -- I messed up the pin placement and it just would not fit normally, so I had to use green stuff to give him a bit more bicep than he'd usually have on that side. Let that be a lesson, people: get your pins centered!
  14. It's been a while since I've posted anything here. I have some making up to do. Forgive me. Dub Bullock. A most unpleasant painting experience. Mine was badly cast so I had to fix up a few spots. This is not something I'm good at. Greenstuff is my enemy. Thorvald, Dwarf Hero was an experiment in blue armour. I'm not sure if I'll do that again. Baeldrinahr, Rogue Fighter. I've painted this one before with a similar scheme.
  15. This is an old Grenadier dwarf from their 'Fantasy Warriors' range/game. I initially wanted his eyes facing up towards his axe, but after goofing them up about 342,539 times, I decided to go with what I had. Tabletop painting for Morihalda Challenge.
  16. Painted this dwarf last night and was pretty happy with how he turned out. I free-handed some patterns on his cloak that turned out OK, but I was mostly proud of how the color scheme ended up looking. If I had to do it over, I would make the boots a different color, as well as use a lighter pink with the plaid. Critiques and advice always welcome, thanks!
  17. This figure was meant for the fall beauty contest, but I was way slow and finished just a week or so ago.
  18. I've been collecting minis for almost 30 years and finally getting around to doing what I've been wanting to do which is actually paint them. Started a couple months ago with a few Dark Sword Critter Kingdom minis and an old Grenadier dragon. And now this, which is my first Reaper mini and an attempt at NMM. C&C welcome.
  19. Started doing NMM again after almost half a year painting my Skaven AoS army. What do you all think? Thanks in advance for any advice or criticisms.
  20. I'm starting to get lost here, so I figured I'd make an index of stuff I've posted. Many of these are loaded with enough pics and text that they're almost mini-tutorials. Questions and comments are always welcome. If you don't get a reply within a couple days, find me on Facebook, or add me on Battle.net (Xumenicus#1118). 21. After painting the dragon for the Paint Your Dragon Contest, I needed a "palette cleanser" before starting on the Jedi children minis for my grandkids' Christmas ornaments. They are even tinier than the dwarf so it was good for me to practice on a little mini again. Her eyes, especially her right one gave me fits. Other than that eye, I am pretty happy with her and she is just for play anyway. I tried to really push my highlights on her. I think I am usually too conservative. This time, I may have overdone it but I like her and she was for practice so she'll stay this way most likely. I did a wash on her hair but it really knocked the highlights down so I re=highlighted. Also, I realize once I saw the photos, she has a tiny bit of flock stuck to the front of her. I have tweezed that off but did not retake the photos as it didn't make that big of difference. Any C&C is appreciated.
  22. So, I'm getting close to finishing up this Project. Also, my olde thread for this was from before the Great PhotoBucket Fiasco. So I'm redoing this thread using my new Imgur account! Salle Goblin Sorceress! Kildrick the Dwarven Cleric! Gonna post the rest in the next post so I don't hit Image Max Limits. GF
  23. Yet another Wolsung mini, this time it's the Dwarf Gardener, he's fully equipped to deal with any young'uns that stray on to his lawn. Had a lot of fun painting this one, he's just so unusual! As always, any comments or criticisms are warmly received.
