I got my caverns terrain, and... Wow! Cave Cliff Pack, Natural Bridge, stairway to violence, stone banks pack, and webbed lair adventure pack. Apparently a tote is still coming? And I already got texture patches. Things are currently getting scrubbed.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dwarvenforge/caverns-deep-by-dwarven-forge-handcrafted-game-ter/description If anybody here loves cavern terrain and missed DF's first cavern KS KS2, this spring/summer around June DF will have KS6. The theme of KS6 will be Return to the Caverns and should be great fun for those who took part in KS2 or those who are new to DF.DF had this to say and showed the below teaser picsWe're doing for Caverns what Dungeon of Doom did for Dungeons. A whole new batch of fun pieces to enhance your existing collection, but also completely stand-alone.Some of the key features: New Core Shapes (diagonal wall, convex curves, 1" pieces, etc)PassagesElevation (with stuff that's impossible on graph paper...)Negative Space pieces (and new Terrain Trays)Flashy Pieces (Magnets & LEDs)Large pieces (4x4 and larger)

So here are some painted dwarven forge castle props. Was tired of all the base grey stuff. The cauldrons are for poring hot oil on attackers, the steps are for putting on the ladders so minis can stand on them and the square bits are covers for battlements.

Coming after KS4 is delivering.

This guy came from the 3rd Dwarven Forge Kickstarter project. He got painted up in the space of 2 hours or less. Fun little mini to paint, just enough detail to be fun but not enough to get tedious.

I pledged for five sets plus quite a few add ons. All unpainted. I plan to paint the stone pieces the same as my KS1 pieces so I gain modularity. I will be starting with these since I will get the most use out of them early and because my Tudor paints aren't here yet (hopefully this week!). Here is a picture of the stone pieces I am setting out to paint. This has some ruins, and two bridges in the mix too.

After painting the Cavern tiles, I am feeling ambitious (and avoiding work) so I am going to try and paint these tiles too. I bought these two sets from eBay a while back and one came painted (albeit pooryl), the other unpainted. I think I will leave the painted ones as is and attempt to finish the unpainted today. It is a race before my gaming group shows up to play board games in four hours.

I saw someone do this mod some time ago, and I really liked the idea; their's looked great and it seemed simple enough, so in a pique of ambition I took my hobby knife to carve a little "T" intersection out of one of my still-unpainted narrow cavern pieces. Well, that was easy but then I was stuck with a cavern piece that had been pretty butchered and looked silly. Ambition waned and confusion and consternation set in. I wasn't really sure what to do to actually make the carved out bit look at all natural. Cut to today (about two moths later) and I've got the green stuff out for only the second time ever, the last time being a year ago, and I've got hill giant gaps nicely filled with room to spare. I thought, as I did last time I played with GS, "Let's pretend I'm a sculpter! What should I sculpt?" I thought to do a shield or helmet, but then remembered... rocks. "I can surely sculpt a rock!" I remembered this piece, pulled it out, and started slopping the GS on it. It wasn't to hard to continue the stone floor pattern and make it look at least somewhat natural (if not nearly so nice as Stefan Pokorny's sculpting). It's not beautiful, but I think once I have it painted, it will blend in pretty well and look like a natural piece. I assume I have to prime GS before painting it? I think I'll prime and then do brown liner over the GS, then just do the standard pokorny paints cavern color scheme. It's not much at all, but it gives me hope that I can do more mods... I've seen some great stuff to make the caverns come alive, and I'd like to try some more.

So having finally gotten most of my Dwarven Forge and Dungeonstone Dungeons tiles (including the dungeony stuff from the second Kickstarter for Dwarven Forge), I've started in on my Caverns stuff. Like some others, I've split the stuff into two groups - a set of tiles for the Underdark, and a set for more surfacey-type caves. The first part I'm working on is the Underdark stuff. I'm liberally borrowing from Undel's excellent work, but with my own twists on the subject matter. So here are the results so far - these are just proof-of-concept tiles, done primarily to figure out what I was going to do, and how they would/should look - Before doing drybrushing (round 1) ... and after. Now it's time to start calling out details, and such. (I made a set of step-by-step panels for other environs - I'm including them in the spoilers, but be warned, they are Very Large).
