  3. Starting up another, now that Janan is done. Satheras, Male Warlock. He had a really bent staff. On the behind shot you can see I cut it off at the hand, wedged a bit out and re glued it into a straighter angle. I also cut him off his integral base, since it had no texture. Hoping to try to get a little better at OSL on him, with a green gem in the staff.
  4. Greetings y'all! I'm starting this thread to use as a painting blog, to help catalog my journey, and to use as a source of ongoing motivation. I have a LOT of stuff I've been putting off, that I want to get through for a homebrew campaign I'm working on, and some warbands for Frostgrave, as well. So, I'll take any extra motivation I can get Once I actually finish pieces, I'll make sure to post them in that part of the forum. To start things off, I have a dragon I've been working on for a couple of weeks, and just got to the point where it's "good enough for now," although definitely not finished. It's easily my favorite piece I've ever owned, so I put off doing any work on it until I was "good enough" to do the piece justice. That is, until I realized that would never happen , so I decided to: 1) Do the darned thing 2) Do some work on it every day 3) Push myself outside my comfort zone to try new things 4) Be patient and forgiving with myself 5) To not freak out when I try something that I don't like, and just go ahead and fix it There's still a good amount to do to it (I have a list with 15 bullet points on it, and growing!), but I'm happy enough looking at it, and want to take a break to focus on some other pieces. I took some progress shots (though perhaps not as many as I'd have liked). So please, join me as we journey through my learning experience: I fully assembled the mini before putting down any paint. Here's where the mini was after a couple days work, about 4-5 hrs. I used an airbrush to give it a zenithal undercoat with black and white, and then to lay in the base coats of the red and blue. I then painted the underbelly and the wing-fingers with a brush. Here, I'm trying to show the work I've done (still fairly subtle, at this point) on building up the vibrancy/transitions on the red skin/scales. I was fairly happy at this point, as I could start to see that I might actually be able to paint this to the standard I want. The next day, I did some work on the face, horns, and blocked in the body spikes. I generally liked the mouth and tongue, but felt it was a bit vibrant. I thought the blue on the horns was alright, but also wasn't completely sold on it. Here's where it was after another `30min of work. Since I felt the tongue was too much, I did something about it! I did a very light glaze with a grey, just to knock down the saturation a bit. Looks better. I added some more blue to the horns, and still wasn't quite happy with it. Picked out the teeth, which is nice, easy bit of definition. And that eye!!! It looked much better than I expected, although that's the last time it would be that well defined... Here it is after another couple days of progress, building up that red (it takes soooooo long on something this big!!!!), as well as more work on the mouth/face. I'd accidentally painted over the eye (which becomes a recurring theme in this tale ), so I blocked in some color, just to separate it from the face. I added a glaze of 'RMP's fair skin' to the tongue, and now I'm lovin' it. Also added some fleshy-ness to the gums on the upper jaw (though it's a little hard to tell), and that was definitely another good decision. Here I continued to build up the red, progress is slow but steady. Not pictured (which is unfortunate, because it was a good learning experience) is my attempt to redo the horn entirely, to a scheme that was a transition of bone to brown to black at the tip...I was really unhappy with it. I had the bone starting around the eye ridges in at attempt to add more contrast and draw the viewer's eye towards the face, but it just looked awful. So I spent a good while redoing the horn and fixing the whole face. I'm glad I made that mistake, as I think the face looks much better than it did before I started on the horn. Part of that was adding in a new level of bright highlights. Here's the mini in some soft lighting, and although the picture is kinda blurry, it better shows the transitions throughout the red. I think this was also the point where I started working on shading the red, by applying a light blue-black glaze to the shaded areas, which really helped add some contrast to the piece. I had an accident that almost gave me a heart attack, where the figure seemingly jumped off the desk Luckily, I caught it before it hit the ground, and it sustained no major damage. It did separate where the dragon attaches on to the base, and although that was a little frustrating, it ended up being a happy little accident, as it made it MUCH MUCH easier to work on the base. I started by putting down some paints and pigments, until it was at a place I thought was ok. Also, the rock spire that it's curled around was originally about 6 inches taller, which I cut off to better see all of the dragon. So, I started work on sculpting a new top. I started by building up thin layers of cardboard with superglue, to level it off (it had quite a slant to it). Then I mixed up some greenstuff, and tried to match the overall flow and texture of of the rocks. Although not a perfect match, it's close enough to not be distracting. Mission accomplished!! The pillars were a part of the mini. And here's the beast in its current state. I painted the newly sculpted top to match what I'd already done, and left the pillars with a super quick drybrushing. I touched up the eye to look acceptable (it's on my 'to do' list), added some grass tufts to the base, and was happy to leave it be like this, for a time. The final pic is another attempt to 'more accurately' show the value transitions with the red, though the colors seem a tad washed out. Thanks for taking a look at my work, and for reading my ramblings! C&C is welcome As I said, I have a to do list for the dragon, but I'm not afraid to add more to it!!! I'll strive to make a post in here a few times a week, and eventually you'll get to see a completed dragon! EDIT: I forgot to mention that once the dragon broke away from the base (super cleanly, luckily), I took the opportunity to redo the underbelly on the whole model, darkening it up some. And along the neck, I experimented with wet blending for the first time! I've been apprehensive to try it before, but decided this was a good spot to experiment, as it's a large enough area, but felt less...consequential, I guess, if I messed it up. And I'm pretty pleased with the result! Next up: Frostgrave warbands for me and my brother!
  5. Brought some painting models for vacation. Finished the Hell Hound last night, didn’t WIP it. Had Yephima on my shelf of shame for a long time. If it ends up 1/100 as good as the studio version I’ll be happy. Plan on light blue skin and silvery hair, like the Bestiaries suggest. Other than that, not sure... Here she is primed with Brown Liner. That’s gonna take some work to get the skin tones brighter.
  6. Gonna start another WIP. This figure is bent, her hair is weird, and her features are MICROSCOPIC! So, I’m gonna kind of rush her. Trimmed, washed, primed in brown liner. No attempt to straighten her bend. The sword forms an S shape. Face was Terran Khaki, Faded Khaki, Amber Gold, then Splintered Bone mixed in. Then I did a half-assed lining and shading with a dilute mix of Dragon Black/Ruddy Flesh. Eyes were then done with Splintered Bone/Dragon White, and a Dragon Black/trace Ruddy Flesh dot. Had some nearly dry ?Red on the palette I slapped on her lower lip, then glinted it with the lightest mixed skin tone. The hair seems like it’s supposed to be actively blown by wind. It was painted Dragon Black, Cloudy Grey, and Cloudy Grey/Dragon White. I then Re shaded and altered things with black again. Honestly, her head could be Kitsune or Cosplay Cat ears, or a crown. But there is hair texture, so I painted it like black hair. Planning for blue dragon head since I’m due to paint another 1/5 of my Kobolds, and blue is in line. Plan on a red/orange cloak for contrast with the dragon. Earth Brown leggings. Woodstain Brown boot leather, belt, gauntlets.
  7. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/yetlblack/corvus-corax-miniatures-sons-of-yetl-black Story Corvus Corax Miniatures is a small hobby project created in 2013. Since then, four projects have successfully funded on Kickstarter and all have been fully delivered on time without any delays. The feedback from the backers have only been positive! The goal of this project is to raise funds for the production a total of four (4) miniatures for the Sons of Yetl Black. The miniatures will be cast in high quality, non-toxic resin. The scale of the miniatures is 35mm (measuring to the eyes in a standing, straight pose, although some characters may be slightly larger because they are supposed to be large characters). 8. Hello everyone, I’ve been asking myself if this is the right place, but as this project has been the one that kept me busy for most of my recent time and is very dear to me, I would like to present it to you. The whole idea to this was born during the time when I nearly stopped painting miniatures and doing wargaming. I had some pretty bad experiences with some guys and communities in Germany and my overall motivation to do some painting and building stuff was down to almost none. I even stopped writing which normally is my preferred method of relaxing. In short: A midlife miniature crisis. Read some more about the background over here: Gallia to Arms - original blog entry During that time a friend of mine bought the miniature kit of the Edelweiß tank that became available just then and later also purchased the kit of the Shamrock tank. That was the moment I decided to also make a small miniature project within the world of Valkyria Chronicles which I had known and liked since I first came to know the original game (or rather … its soundtrack). I had a lot of 20mm figures left and some 1/72 scale tanks, which I figured to be perfect for my plan to recreate the equipment and figures of the game in small scale. They don’t need much space, are easily convertible and they don’t cost as much as 28mm figures and vehicles. As some of my friends continued to do wargaming on WWII and I had so much stuff left, I soon decided to create a small force of Gallian troops for WWII skirmish games. Unfortunately it turned out that the game rules they were using rendered the Valkyria Chronicles scenario almost useless (due to balancing issues). So I continued creating models just for fun, using the whole anime scenario to set up the amusing story of a guy doing weird stuff. It somehow got out of hand … My little builds caught the attention of some guys organizing an annual local tabletop event called “Do or Dice” – and they asked me if I’d like to present some of my miniatures. I thought – wow – what an honor – but … it’s a tabletop event, not a miniature showcase event. So … hm. What to do? Right! Create an own scenario. Luckily I had acquired some left-over scale train terrain from my late uncle – and there were two grass mats measuring 100cm x 70cm. Perfect for a small skirmish game. Reason enough for me to tackle that challenge. Fortunately I’ve like 8 month or so left. Well then – Let’s Make … Gallia to Arms! Creating a scenario set in the Valkyria Chronicles universe requires certain elements. As I plan to use this thread as the main thread and create threads for the single elements of the game – Gallian Forces, Imperial Forces and Terrain – consider this as some kind of register for the different threads. I will frequently update the different sections, so stay tuned. What do we need? Gallian Forces Gallian Army WIP Thread Imperial Forces Terrain Terrain WIP Game rules and scenario setup Game supplies Well then Let’s make this: Into this: Or at least something that looks like it …
  9. Hi Guys, Just thought i'd share this project with you. i've been working on it for a few weeks now. I run a weekly gaming session using a home brew system that we've been working on for about 20 years, but this post isn't about that - though if you're curious please send me a message i'd love to chat about it. First as is the tradition - the completed board in all it's glory. On the surface, it's nothing unusual, however hidden inside each tile is a small rare earth Magnet. I'm also placing magnets on the bottom of the miniature bases. This gives the miniature a very nice pull towards the board and keeps everything in it's proper square. I'm also going to produce walls, columns and doors each with magnets in to allow me to customize the terrain. I chose a typical dungeon style flooring as it's easier to get a good grid pattern going. Though given that there's magnets in the board, i could easily design tiles to sit on top of the board with other terrain types. I'm trying to think of a way to get an outdoor setting and still keep the grid going. and now to the construction. I began with a thing piece of panel wood only about 6mm thick as the base for the board and placed little rubber stoppers on the bottom for feet (i didn't think to take a picture of that as it's not very exciting.) This board is going to to be the base for the board. On top of them I placed 3d printed tiles. There's only about eight different designs of tile, but with placement and paint they come up looking very distinct. It took about four hours for my little Anycubic Filament Printer to print the tiles (and I had alot of help from some friends and the local 3d printer store) Each tile is 4x4 squares with each square bring 30mm. Each Tile took about 5 hours to print. On the underside of the tile is small circular holes about 10mm wide and 2mm deep just big enough for the magnet - though with the print tolerances of the printer i did have to use my dremel to widen the gap so that the magnet could fit comfortably. In the end, i applied superglue to make sure that the magnet wasn't going anywhere. I also had to mark the magnets to make sure that they were all facing the same way. (I'm also thinking about adding a few magnets of the opposite polarity into the base of a Beholder Miniature to see if i can get it float, but that might be just a pipe dream) Once the tiles were finished it was simply a matter of spraying the board black as a printer and placing a thick coat of grey paint. I simply used the Acrylic paint from the local art store rather than my Citadel paints. This simply acted as the base coat and then i simply built it up in layers with dry brushing lighter shades on to the board to give it depth. Once this was done I simply mixed in some blue with my paint added a bunch of water to water it down and made a thin wash to bring out the details. I'd need to come back in and add in some of the features, such as the trap door and drains. I also sprinkled some Skulls, broken weapons and shields for good measure onto the board. Once the painting was done, I used a thick mud agent, I can't remember the brand from my local gaming store and then covered the whole thing in flock and sand to give it a grimy, slimy feel. Unfortunately, my poor AnyCubic didn't survive the process (May it rest in peace) So this gave me the opportunity to buy a Resin Printer - A Creality LD002S. The Goblin Wolf Riders were my first print. Actually really impressed with how they came out. Other than the clean up, It wasn't too difficult. I used a water soluble Resin to make things easier to keep neat. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy the whole process was - It was much much easier than dealing with Filament printers. Once the board was finished, I then cheated and had the board framed at my local picture framing store (the only thing i didn't do myself.) Once I got the board back, I thought it looked a little plain So i decided to glam it up - Also was a good excuse to stop printing Mini's on my 3d Printer So i thought i'd print a Celtic pattern around the edges. I knew that i wouldn't be able to print them in one solid peice (Resin printers only downside is a small print bed) So i decided to make little tiles. I designed these tiles myself, grabbing the celtic design online and then simply just adding them into 3d builder and setting a thickness to them. A quick coat of gold Spray paint and they came up looking real shiny.. Too shiny.. I added a wash over the gold to attempt to dull them, the pictures don't really do it much justice, but on the board it breaks up the gold really nicely. By this stage i was feeling pretty clever with myself, so i thought i'd added another feature, Gemstones in the frame. this proved easier than I thought, I quickly found an STL file for the gemstone and then it was simply a matter of giving them a coat of Citadel's technical range - Waystone Green, Soulstone Blue & Spiritstone Red. The finished photo really doesn't do justice to the how the gemstones came out. and there you have it. About 6 weeks to complete (most of this time was waiting for my anycubic 3d printer to finish printing the tiles) Let me know what you think! I can provide the STL Files for the tiles if anyone out there is interesting in having a go at making one for themselves We're shutdown right now because of the Corona Virus, so no RPG for us for a while, but i can't wait to get back into it with our shiny new board. Cheers, Chris

We have designed more than 60 magical effects, traps, tokens and condition rings to customize your work of art. Every player is different, and now, providing an army, hero, or dungeon with a unique look is possible. Creativity is limitless! This new market is allowing us to create and offer highly detailed effects for people to print right after they purchase one of our packs. And we are eager to see what people do with them. We are confident that any hobby enthusiast will find many uses for these effects, just like we did. We’d like to thank you all for taking a little time to see what we have created and sharing your thoughts. A new series of 3D printable effects for your Wargame Miniatures and Dungeon sets! Highlights: Marvelous designs and outstanding special effects quality Beautiful sculpting based on actual dynamic simulations. Ideal for wargames such as D&D, Warhammer, Pathfinder, LOTR or any kind of diorama. Unbelievable price relative to the quality. A limited collection for limitless printing. ***Included in the Arcane Edition Bundle*** Visual representation is our main goal on this Kickstarter. Spells like "Create food and water" can now be 3D printed and represented on your tabletop games. Fire balls, dancing lights and way more to come! King's Fest, Bull's Strenght, Celerity, Eletrified Area, Dancing Lights or Slippery Floor are some of the tokens we painted! FDM or resin, both will look amazing on your dungeon. Traps are part of the arsenal of D&D masters and dungeons. We give them a personal touch using FX and lights. Perfect to decorate and display on deadly dungeons and battlefields! We have created an easy and visual way to represent your buffs, magics ,props and equipment without modifying your miniatures. You can add buffs like Bull's strength, magic shields and more. We added 4 anchors to the bases and a lot of generic spells and buffs that work with tons of games. All of them already tested in filament and resin printers. We'll provide a wide range of different inner diameter, and more different types in the Stretch goals! Painted samples of a Spellbase with Bubble Shield, Bull's Streght and a combination of a few spells We wanted to represent debuff and condition so you can place it on your miniature easily. Not only a card/token close to the mini, which creates confusion sometimes. With that in mind, we have created a collection of rings: bleeding, confusion, sleeping and poisioned. We love minis, for that reason we have created miniatures for our campaing, to show a few examples of the use of our spells. (Human wizard included in the initial bundle) They are going to be the big stretch goal of our campaign! If you like our designs, stay tunned to our social media! Our elder wizard and two of our Stretch goals Characters! It's hard to decide which effect or prop we want for your wizard!. So we have designed a wide variety of props and spells ready to be used on your collection of minis and BattleFx Fantasy minis. Hobbypalooza studio made an amazing paintjob with our Wizard! We've prepared them to be easy to magnetize. It's the best way to visualize how your characters evolve or change their equipment. We have designed our miniature hands, spells and props with 2x1 mm magnets holes. Most of our FX are perfect for tons of games, not only dungeon crawlers. The collection we present is more focused on wargames. Painted samples. Fire Arrow (FDM - Ender 3), Fire Ball (FDM - Ender 3) and Gunpowder Weapon FX (Resin - Elegoo Mars) Firewalls, perfect for the deadliest wizard or to populate your battlefield. Dangerous terrain with vines or spider webs! We did a collection of magic walls, with 1 and 2 tile size. All 3D printed in FDM and painted by us! A bit of color make them pup! Wizard with hat, Fire Ring, Square 20 and 25mm Spellbase Permanent Storm Spell ( two parts) and Big Tornado Spell Key Spellbase, Frozen Ring , Fire Arrow Model 2 Doctor Strange's Shield ( two types) and Doctor Strange's Hands Saw Trap and Spellbase Scroll The Project is organized into 7 sets grouped from smaller sets to bigger sets. All of them have the Arcane edition bundle included. Limited set are marked as such, with special rewards (CustomFx) that you can check below. "Bullet shells and spells" pledge, include our first kickstarter (BattleFx), with all the stretch goals and custom FX, you can check the content here. We want to thank the community allowing them to create their own effects. People tell us what they have in mind and we make it real. That simple. Everybody has imagined a personal customization for its mini, dungeon or tabletop game. We would like to offer them the opportunity to create that dream or specific effect for a lower price than on request. These effects are divided into three categories: S, M and L. (small, medium and large, but not only means size, also complexity). "S" Size Samples "M" Size Samples "L" Size Samples The S category includes small effects of little complexity. The M category includes either a small and complex effect or a medium one of little complexity. And the L category includes large simple effects or small and medium effects of high complexity. Our effects are generic but totally adaptable. Still, if people have an idea, they can carry it out, we will design it for them. All Custom will be realeased for EVERYONE! So, If you think the 3D printing community need that idea, here is the perfect ocasion! We learned a lot of our previous Kickstarter, so now we have a more solid website and a bigger team. We want everything to be delivered perfectly. Check all the stages below: Please note that while we’ll do our best to meet these dates, they are an estimation. Read the Risks and Challenges section below for more information about this matter.

  17. Hey guys, I've been lurking and posting around these forums for nigh a while now and i thought i'd share a project that i've been working on for quite some time. It's a tabletop roleplaying Game that i've been working on for about 20 years now as a personal hobby. After much convincing, I've decided to create a 4th Edition and make it available to the world at large. The Quickstart guide is a free starter pack for the System, including how to make a character, equip them and conduct simple adventures. I'm looking at releasing a Kickstarter next year to release the full core system, but for now i'm just looking for feedback and interest. https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/282100/Tides-of-Prophecy-Quickstart-Guide Check it out, hey, it's free. I'd be very appreciative for any feedback, comments or constructive critique you could provide! Cheers, Christopher George
  18. Greetings, Children of the Reaper... - I always think it's cheeky when entities pop up on manufacturers forums for a leg up; I do hope you will give me a pass, as I have contributed to the great Reaper Edifice (in a minuscule way) with a few sculpts in the past (Reaper Ron was kind enough to relieve me of a few Dregs.. Ghoul/Zombie sorts). I'm just tinkering with a little range of my own , perhaps more whimsical fantasy figures.. Got a batch of greens finished (two gang/factions.. enough for an initial mould).. and am immersing myself in a bit of hitherto unexplored social media (only got on FBook this year!). Have just set up a FaceBook 'Artist' page (please do take a look if you like, no obligation, am not flogging anything just now): https://www.facebook.com/midblightminiatures/?modal=admin_todo_tour And attached a couple of pics for you to examine... All the Beast/ Hope you US Denizens had a great Thanksgiving , Paul M
  19. With my wife and I preparing to buy a house we've been clearing out a lot of our clutter to make packing and moving easier. We've also been working hard to bring in extra money too, and this project will hopefully do both. Today my wife signed up for a craft fair to help sell the wreaths she's been making for the upcoming holidays. From what she's heard from friends and other crafters this particular craft fair is really eclectic and pulls in quite a diverse crowd. As she told me about it that's when the idea seemed to hit us both, why not try to clear out all that terrain junk I've been hoarding? So instead of sitting down and painting or creating my latest joke piece I got started. First up was a couple of single tent encampments. I made one on a rounded base to better fit in a table of terrain and I made the second one squared to fit better on a grid system. Both pieces have their good and bad points but like usual I learn by doing; no amount of research or prep work make up for actual experience. Which is the main reason I made these single tent camps. Hopefully I've learned enough to make any subsequent larger camps better. Next up are a couple of joke pieces that were honestly going to get made anyway. That's right, they'll be 40k statues when I'm done with them, besides Buzz looks kinda like a space marine already. I had some glue left over so I also started making some sci-fi barrels and I know I'll be making a ton of those. The last piece of the night is going to be a simple 40k watchtower. At the moment it's really just in its infancy. The main features are finished barring creating a door and applying some details to the piece. Now before anyone gets too excited, I'm not selling any of these pieces online or anything like that. These are literally pieces that are made to be sold for less than five bucks or so and are really only being made to clear out my hobby hoardings.
  20. Cool factions in this game! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1849625770/chronicles-of-the-wayfarer-heroes
  21. Here's the bones Cave Troll! I painted some of the pustules red with white-heads on them...very gross and troll-ey. :)
  22. Here is my Knight Templar. This is the first model I painted after about 5 years of not painting any miniatures.
  23. Here is my Reaper Bones Ogre Guard, 77456. It took a long time to finish the skin. I had a hard time getting it right with dry brushing layer upon layer and several washes, but I like the way it turned out.
  24. Here is my Owlbear promo from Bones Black. It was a lot of fun to paint! As an aside, does anyone know if this can still be purchased through Reaper? I can't find it on the site anymore... :(
  25. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/simonminiatures/the-saga-of-belius-the-black/description Belius versus Angus and Branag Belius the Black is a giant with mysterious origins. We say about him that it is the reincarnation of a god, or even, the guardian of an ancient temple. In short, according to the babarian tribes of the North, it is a black legend related to Bregan Lorelei’s great-grandfather. Bélius is a 70 mm figurine sculpted by me, not counting my hours, in order to obtain the incarnation of the warrior of evil, chaos and destruction. The resin cast will be made by Mr Dès, former melter of Rackham , a pledge of high quality. This project , a range of dark fantasy figurines, is important because I can create from A to Z what i want while satisfying the fans of my work. Indeed, I have been sculpting figurines for more than 20 years : First, for Rackham for 9 years and then for various freelance brands such as Mierce Miniatures, Monolith with Conan, Mythic Battles and Claustrophobia which are successful on Kickstarter. The Kickstarter platform will allow me to finance the moulds for all the figurines, which are all my personal creations. Knowing that the fans of my work will be able to hold them in hand, paint them, or play with them in any kind of games is really a great pleasure for me. This first step is important because i imagine that these figurines are destined for a game in the future. Belius is accompanied by two brothers, Angus and Branag (35mm): They are barbarians from northern tribes. They are elite soldiers ready to do anything to protect their lands and the Elebore Forest from any intrusion in the name of their leader, the demigod Siegfried. NEXT SG to come:3480€ BAAL-Thus, 60mm of brutal force! Shipping informations: The shipping costs are the same for all pledges and for a number of unlimited miniatures. France:7 euros UE:8 euros Rest of the world:10 euros
