Here is an old frost giant I got in a collection my high school friends gave me. I’ve painted him up to look Viking-ish, as I think that was Gary Gygax’s original conception. The snow consistency is not right. I’d like it to be fluffy and smooth. Need practice...

I’ve been working on this guy for months, off and on. Finally pushed him through to completion last night. I hope you like him.

Almost done... Just the snow and some painting details... Really liked the model, and is 1 of the main reasons I backed bones 3...the posture was tough, I liked that a lot. One of my first serious attempt of NMM, very happy with it. Unfortunately Tha backside if the axe is better than the front.... A well... Hope u like. Edit: icicles are from train-model building sets. Translucent plastic, and I sprayed a bit of white on the base of the icicle.

Hello fellow miniature painters! This is my first attempt at painting a r̶e̶s̶i̶n̶ Bonesium miniature model. My local miniature hobby shop was holding a painters' meet-up and the subject was anything humanoid or figurine. I bought the Frost Giant King and got my paint scheme and inspiration from KingMob's painted Frost Giant King. I think I did an okay-ish job, although no where as good as KingMob or other experienced painters here. Also the sword and spear are bent. Gonna try to straighten it by softening in boiling water and quenching in ice water. I bought a couple more Reaper Minis and hope to complete them some time soon.

For your consideration, I offer you the Frost Giant King from the Bones 3 Kickstarter. He is the pair to the Frost Giant Queen and I am not disappointed in the sculpt. This miniature (bigature?) is packed with details and a metric-ton of space to paint and practice textures. The level of detail for Bones miniatures continues to impress me. The King and Queen were both primed with Krylon and sealed with Dull Cote and neither exhibits tackiness. The bits that stick out - like the butt of the spear - did rub off when I handled it during painting. I really had to work my way from the inside out to paint this big guy. The fur textures on the fur cape was an enjoyable ride. I look forward to seeing what others do with this team of Giants, and I'm eyeballing the release schedule for the Frost Giant Guards. I recommend purchasing the Royalty as soon as they are available. Gratitude for all who participated in the WiP thread. Your enthusiasm kept me going. #respect #gratitude I hope you enjoy. :)

The blue skinned one reminds me of something out of Head Lopper by Andrew MacLean. If you never heard of it, check it out.

Update on the Frost Giant King. Cheers to the recommendation on Bases to replace the GW base! I have a slew of baes now for my projects. Plus this base is so much better. I hope to add more embellishment like rocks to match the Queen after I get this chap sorted. So many smooth surfaces asking for textures. Leather texture after the inner cloak is done. The spear shaft wood.grain has to wait until the end as the butt of the spear continues to be worn off during painting. The sword will be a session work in-and-of itself. Enjoy!

Long time lurker, second time poster, first time upload. Here is the Frost Giant Queen from the Reaper Bones 3 Kickstarter for your consideration. I was unable to participate in the Bones 3 Kickstarter as I came upon these Bones figures late in the game. However, the participants who were able placed their unwanted miniatures up on eBay, so I took advantage of opportunity when presented. I focused on Color Theory and Texture on this piece as she provided a very large palette to paint upon. These Giants provided me practice in sketching too, which makes the entire line appealing to me. Side note: Gratitude to those who did place these minis up on eBay without jacking up the prices. I was able to purchase the both Frost Giant Royalty around cost of what Reaper will sell them at Retail. This certainly displays an ethos in the Reaper community that makes this community stand out among others. Further, having lurked for awhile: the community here is quite kind and helpful. This is a good community of miniature painters. I like the Bones miniature range. The detail on this miniature was very close to what I expect from the metal range, and I will purchase more of the Bones range in the future. I am looking forward to the resculpt of Vanya, the Fire Giant Princess, and her new size to match the Fire Giants in D&D. The attire of this miniature is akin to the Viking attire of old, and I found my SCA ventures to assist me in painting this Viking Apron and embellishments. The sculptor did an outstanding job and I look forward to more of their work. The FAQs were an asset that made my first foray into Bones an easier one. I had difficulty with flash lines until I picked up some diamond files, which handled them quite well without marring detail like my serrated files. The bent pieces were fixed with some boiling water and cold water quite easily. The pieces fit together like a glove, though I admit I still pinned them. (My OCD was tingling.) I did use Krylon as Primer, and the tackiness disappeared after the first coat of paint. She was sealed only with Krylon Dull Cote and exhibits no tackiness. She has been handled and there is no rubbing off of paint. I like how her base was round, though I am ignorant of what would be an appropriate Reaper base to place this inside of. (I currently have the King on a GW Dreadnought base, and I do not like it. If anyone reads this and has a recommendation, I surely would appreciate it.) This Bones line of miniatures has proven to me to be a Good Idea and one I will support. I am already purchasing more of the Bones 2 line for my D&D and Oldhammer alternatives, and I admit excitement at the new of Bones 4. Based on the quality of these miniatures: you will have an additional participant. Please keep up the outstanding quality and amazing work. I hope you enjoy my efforts. We are starting a pirate campaign this week. I whipped this mini up as a gift for the game master of the Boot Hill/Call of Cthulu mashup game that we just finished two weeks ago. I'm also building a to-scale pirate ship for this campaign. Stay tuned for that. Will post photos in a few days when it's complete. I hope you enjoy!

As I head into the final few figures left of my Bones 1 Kickstarter blog painting challenge, this past weekend I finished up Boerogg Blackrime, Frost Giant Jarl. (Though in the Kickstarter he was labeled as the Ice Giant King). Just 4 more figures to paint from my entire Bones 1 purchase. Okay so my attempt at coming back a little while ago kind of fell flat on its face, and my attempts to return to painting have gone terribly. However, I visited Drifter the other day and we stopped off in London on the way to his, and we dropped into a shop which carried Reaper Bones I was so pleased I bought a new dragon and a unicorn. Hadn't been intending to buy minis at all, just to browse, but nevermind. I decided to paint the dragon today, and he's the Fire Dragon... However, I decided to try and paint him up as a white dragon, coz he's little, and for some reason I just didn't fancy painting him as a red. I'll do a red another time =P However, in painting my whites, I ended up going more frosty, and he's got notes of silver and all sorts in him. Wow my photo game is off at the moment :S but yeah, there he be. You can see in the last photo the shimmer on his wings Paints used: Citadel -Fenrisian Grey -Ulthuan Grey -White Scar -Runefang Steel -Guilliman Blue -Screaming Skull -Drakenhof Nightshade -Gehenna's Gold -Dawnstone -Mechanicus Standard Grey -Steel Legion Drab -Agrax Earthshade Primed with black Army Painter Spray. He's been popped on a 7.5cm MDF oval and based with sand, tea, and Army Painter tufts. Narthrax is sitting on the bookshelf next to me being annoyed that I started a new dragon in the middle of painting him. Nethyrmaul is staring resentfully up from the bottom shelf, loathing me for my terrible efforts at finishing his goopiness.

I present my finished Frost Wyrm As this is my first somewhat larger mini, it took me a bit more time to get started and to make a choice of colors. There is still plenty of room for improvement, but all in all I am very pleased with the end result. Last night I deciced to make a stand alone base out of super sculpey to display the Frost Wyrm when it is not in its "still under construction habitat" of the ice cave. Any C&C is as always much appreciated

Hi all, first Show-Off post here! Been painting since the first Bones Kickstarter but wasn't satisfied with the results enough for sharing until recently but now I'm diving in. I had a lot of fun painting all the Bones golems together/in succession. It really gave me a chance to differentiate the appearances I wanted as they developed. I gave myself the liberty to experiment a bit and created more than one version of some. For the ice golem I wanted to preserve as much of the translucency as possible as he's already a nice glacial blue, so I kinda went to town on the basing instead. I like the stone golem but it always reminds me of Frankenstein's monster. The clay golem, aka, "Do you even uplift, bro?" - I know, geology jokes . . . I needed the second one to serve as a blood golem. I really like the flesh golem because he can also double as a larger zombie at the gaming table. Finally, the battleguard golem. Makes a great warforged character or iron golem. I wanted a tarnished look on this one because let's face it - iron makes for a really poor choice for golem materials in any fantasy setting with ice sorceress's (ice sorcerese?), weather altering druids, dank caverns, etc. Feel free to provide feedback too! In addition to learning the painting itself, I'm still understanding the nuances of photographing these little monsters I built a DIY light box and have a decent non-phone digital camera but it's still finicky. For example the flesh golem appears noticeably less vibrant red in person, while the brown clay golem is actually a bit more red-brown than this image. Despite having the same backdrop, as I know that subtly changes things. Anyway, enjoy!

This was one of my Secret Sophie gifts. I've decided to paint him up like a magma sub-species. They dwell within lava and volcanoes, and freely burrow and swim through the magma without harm to themselves he's far from finished, going to add some more black along the spine for sure

Recently I painted up some dragons and this critter. WIP thread here. This is about how big it is compared to Reaper's 02599 Frorigh: Frost Giant and 03135: B'thuhl, Bathalian Pirate:

So. I tried painting some minis without WIPs and found myself having a hard time keeping track of what and how much I had done. So I'm back, although these may be sporadic and really slow to update. We'll see. Anyhow, after painting a lot of tiny figures for the January Bones Beauty Pageant, I decided to move in the opposite direction and tackle some of the big figures from Bones I to clear out room for Bones II. So I am painting dragons. Five of them, if you count the Frost Wyrm. Each one gets its own thread, though, since I don't know how I'm going to progress through them. The Frost Wyrm is pretty cool and I've been looking forward to painting it. I see it as camouflaged in the rocky ice fields of the deep north, so I'm going to try that sort of a color scheme, whites and greys and blues and violets. For the time being I have painted it up, first with a base coat of Reaper's Brown Liner, then some white and a little blue mixed from Phthalo Blue and Titanium White. This is to help spot the pieces as well, since I have left some of it unglued for ease of painting. The other dragons I'm painting concurrently are Deathsleet, Ebonwrath, the Fire Dragon, and the Shadow Dragon.

This is Reaper's other frost giant, the one who isn't in Bones. My husband was running a giant-intensive campaign and I thought he would be fun. I painted him in a raking northern light, with pale ivory light on one side and deep blue shadows on the other, with an attempt to show the reflectiveness of sky and snow. His clothing is patched and impromptu, his weaponry a little battered. I painted the metals with metallic paint but also painted reflections and shadows on them. There's a WIP thread here. Some of the pictures are taken from a low angle because it seemed right for a giant. Also, Frorigh is hunched forward and a little difficult to see from straight on (indeed, he is a little front-heavy and needed some counterweight to keep him from toppling forward -- you can see at the front of the base edge where I used epoxy to tilt up the front of the base about 2 mm). ETA: I have submitted him to the Inspiration Gallery.

Here are some of the frost giants I've painted through the years. The first one is from Grenadier, painted in the 80's. I've had something of a love/hate relationship with this mini; the axe keeps falling off. I think I've got it secured now... Here is the Ral Partha AD&D version, painted sometime in the 90's: And the Reaper version, painted in a hurry for a D&D session. I never seem to plan out getting my models assembled and painted very far in advance of needing them... . I was going for a tundra camo look, basing it on one of the published adventures that had frost giants being ambush predators. Kinda ended up mono-chromatic. And a shot for comparison. The first two were about the right size for earlier editions, but the Reaper fig is closer to the correct size for more recent publications. I hope to add the female frost giant soon; she's in my queue.

This is Otherworld's frost giant, a companion piece to the somewhat larger Reaper's Frorigh: Frost Giant. I painted a whole batch of frost giants, WIP here. As with Frorigh, I was trying for a raking, low arctic light effect. The lights are pale yellow, the shadows deep blue and violet. The figure has some fun details. He had a number of ovoid knobs on his tunic which I decided to paint up like red gemstones, garnets or rubies. The shadows are all painted on. I used metallic paints on the metals but also added lights, reflections, and colors.

Since I am currently busy painting some older miniature (vintage, if you will) figures; I decided to take a piece from my private collection showcase and post it. This is the male Frost Giant by Grenadier (circa 1985). When I started painting miniature figures about 18 months ago; this was the 2nd figure that I selected to paint. I think this is one of the most beautiful fantasy figures (castings) that I have ever come across and I still love it today.
