Still working this one. I've had her through various layers over the past year, but just picked her up again. She's looking good, but the more I look, the more lines I see that need to be cleaned up before she's ready for the main event gallery:

I got this Frost Giant King in the last BoGW Europe. Glitterwolf put it in there I believe ( @Glitterwolf). I aimed for a fastvpaintjob, then noticed more and more details during the paint. Tried my best at a frostbite-ish effect on the sword. In the end I loved him so much he deserved a proper base. I went with an icy base, without the often seen crackle effect. There was no tutorial for what I was aiming for, so I winged it. The rock is a piece of driftwood with wall filler. I'm quite happy on the outcome. What do you all think? Bonus content: WiP pictures

Today I wanted to show off some cheap 54mm Vikings that I painted up as Frost Giants. I made these guys close to a year ago, and they were among some of the first larger sized minis I had worked on, so they're a little rough, and that's before looking at the quality of model, but if someone else is in need of a lot of giants like I was, then this might be useful to them! So these guys are from Tehnolog, a Russian miniatures company that I know very little about. The minis are made out of a soft plastic like novelty toys you can buy with tickets at an arcade. They also have abysmal detail. They're meant for 54mm wargaming, and I believe there's an intended game system that accompanies the line, but my goal was to get some cheap giants for D&D. They fit nicely on a 2in base, and could probably fit in with the smaller Reaper Bones giants, but they're definitely a little undersized. I remedied this by giving them each a boosted base, with the leader getting two layers. At a glance, they tower over a standard medium sized mini. The details were rough and there were some ugly mold lines here and there. But they're serviceable. They might work better as a half-giant if you want to use 5e's Huge Frost Giants. I am still considering getting one of their other lines to convert into cheap-o Fire Giants. What's your favorite obscure miniature substitute?

WIP of the Cave Bear from Bones IV's Prehistoric Expansion. I did not get this expansion so I recently picked up the Stone Giants and the Cave Bear from a gift certificate to Reaper Miniatures. When I saw this I had ear-marked this to do the base in a similar method to Frulla Krung's base. To achieve that I added the bark next to the integrated base as well as a pumice piece and then using baking soda and super glue I added the snow and ice. For Frulla's base I used the BSI Thin Insta-Cure super glue and baking soda. That made the ice easier to form over the rocks. I will prolly add that after painting as well. The base is built from cork with a plastic card (fake credit card sent in the mail) in between the top and bottom. It provides a nice rigidity to the cork. This Cave Bear will get a paint job of grays with a tan crescent under his chin and a tan snout. I've downloaded a ton of pictures of different bears to see where the colors shift along the bear to get a better color along the bear's length and over its head. Enjoy and Stay tuned.

This is my first post here on the forums, but I've been a fan of Reaper for a while now. I've also been painting a while, but only got serious about learning in the last couple years. I've been working at tabletop ready level until I set my sights on these two frost giants. The detail is amazing in these models, so I felt like I had to throw myself into it and produce the best paint job I could. These are the very first pieces I've ever felt were worth considering entering into a competition of any sort. They are currently my best work, and yet I know that I have a long way to go with much to learn. Together they took 5 days to complete, working about 6-8 hours each day while I recover from shoulder surgery. Some quick notes: 1. The bases are what came with the minis, please disregard them, I plan on following up in this post with custom bases for each of them. 2. The Winter Wolf that belongs to the one with the spear is not done yet. He'll be forthcoming in time. 3. Yes, I modded the spear. I cut off the head and used a spare brush protector tube to connect it to a wood dowel. I used a stain marker on the wood dowel and painted the spear head and tube. This meant that I had to drill out her hand. It was a bit dicey, but it turned out well, I think. Thanks, TPSminis

A set of Frost Giantesses from Bones 4

Loved these minis from the Kickstarter. I thought they would be taller but still enjoyed painting them. These are nearly done, I just need to highlight again and then tidy up all the things I ignore on smaller models because they don't show up... Also need to do a snow effects base.

I haven’t posted in a while. Been mostly painting terrain for the past 8 months or so. Finally getting back to some minis. So I picked up the Wizkids frost giant last fall to paint up as Harashnag for my Storm Kings Thunder campaign. He had been sitting around for a while and I finally got a chance to get him painted. The right arm actually wasn’t glued in very well so I was able to paint with it out of the way for the most part. As usual with these Wizkids pre-primes, I didn’t clean up any mold lines though I probably should have this time around. C&C welcome!

Giants are one of the types of monsters that I rarely use in my own game, but I happen to be playing in Storm King's Thunder, which is an entire module about giants. So yet again I find myself painting some monsters for my DM to use against me. This time it includes the Frost Giant King that I skipped out of Bones 3. I primed them with Reaper's Liners, Red for the Fire Giant Jailer, Grey for the Frost Giant King, and Blue for the Storm Giant. Much like the Sepia Liner, Red Liner doesn't seem to have the same adhesive quality as the Brown, Blue, and Grey Liners. Also, for some reason it smells really bad. However mostly it was the rubbing off issue that caused me to repaint it. After priming them over the weekend, I sat down tonight and spent about 2 hours getting as much done as I could, hoping to have them table ready for Wednesday. I've got another 2 hours or so tomorrow that I'll get to spend on them, so here's hoping...

Hi all, It's been awhile since I have painted! Summers are always busy for me. A few months back I was approached by an old friend who got back into DnD. He started to buy some minis, and I showed him my profile here. Back in June, he called me to ask if I would be interested in painting a special character for his campaign- Harshnag the frost giant. The mini looked cool and I really wanted to help him out, so I said bring it on! It's taken me far too long to do this, but you know what? I kind of like re-paints. There's a level of pressure that's taken off with color choice that is really nice. Anyway, I didn't take many pictures, but here are a few. This is what arrived- pre-painted from WOTC, but only color blocking (ans often a bit sloppy in places). The whole thing would need to be painted over since I'd probably mess up color matching. Here's after having done steps 1-10 or so. Model mostly re-painted and shaded, highlighted, and drybrushed where it needs to be. Still some work to do on the leather. Also decided to add in some bronze for a pop of color- though my buddy specified he wants it weathered and worn down. Here we are after doing the verdigris. The chainmail will be rusted as well- after doing the final verdigris highlights I'll move to the chainmail. I really like the messy verdigris look- I think it draws my eyes to it more, though I'll be continuing to refine a range of verdigris effects in this and future works. The nice thing is I am working on a quick and dirty verdigris technique that I think works really well! Anyway, enjoy! C&C welcome as always.

Another completed 3D print, again designed by Duncan Shadow. This guy had a bit of a restoration. The printer knocked his head off overnight in a 20 hour print, so I attempted my first partial print and printed only from that point up and glued him together. The gap is more obvious on his back. I used model car filler, but I think my tube was a bit too old. And one with Sir Forscale:

So an EDIT: I changed up the photos and added one more different view because I took them from a slightly lower angle So it looks like Frost Giants are all the rage these days on the forums, so I'll add one more, eventually two. I have been watching Patrick Keith's frost giant queen ever since she came out on the Bones Kickstarter and got her not too long ago, but didn't feel that I could actually start on her until I got some of my older frost giant pieces out of the way. The first two on the docket are John Dennett's classic Frost Giants from the Grenadier's Giant's Club, where each giant set came with the piece of a map and an obelisk. I'm not sure if after collecting all these you were able to send them in for something? Anyhoos, here is the female frost giant, one of my all time favorite figures. I'm working still on the male frost giant who is a little more labor intensive, but I'll get him finished one of these days hopefully soon. and some of the face's close ups because I think I took the farther away photos from a higher angle which didn't quite capture the face. One thing I've found out especially towards the end of this project is that super glue and tight spaces really don't match and I managed to get the snow around and in a few places where it shouldn't be, including over the left hand's fingernails, which I took painstaking time and effort to make nice, only to get them covered by snow. The snow I used came from some modeling snow I had bought years ago. Up until now I'd been using baking soda for my snow effect, but I worried a bit that over the time it might yellow (time will tell I guess) and it would not look so nice in a few years. Finally finished her. boy, that blue skin was tricky and I’m still not entirely happy, but considering how much time I spent on her I feel pretty good.

Frulla Krung The Frost Giantess Frulla Krung was chosen as the next project by popular vote on the forums. The miniature was sculpted by Sandra Garrity and the base was composed of a piece of slate, sand, ballast, and bark. You can see for yourself in the WIP post. The miniature is depicted as a frost giant so I gave her blue skin and instead of a classic blond look as most seem to get, I decided to keep hers dark blue. For the eyes I went with a bright grey iris to make them creepy, intense and stand out. She's clothed in the latest fashion of yellow fur trimming a classic leather bikini top and loincloth bottom. Her "Ugg" boots are wrapped with leather thongs and she likes a fur bracer. She's sporting a tribal necklace of teeth but with a pendant to match the bracelet on her arm. Her other accessory? The family battleaxe. A classic double headed axe with some amazing filigree work on the flat of the head. She'll claim a few heads with it next go around with the humans below. Her ancestral home is high within the mountains and thus covered in snow, ice and hoarfrost. Here she is ... Frulla Krung, the Frost Giantess! Enjoy. Check her out in the Inspiration Gallery. 02599: Frorigh, Frost Giant Jason Wiebe P65 version This is another one from my shelf of shame. He has been there since around 2011. He ended up on the shelf of shame for several reasons. One was that I couldn't blend the greens to save my life. I still can't, actually, and I gave up. He is the P65 version so he also weighs a lot. I'm not sure exactly how much, probably more than a pound. Every time I picked him up I put him back down. I've had a couple of injuries over the last few years (broken wrist, compressed bone in my other arm) which made holding a heavy mini like this not fun. I also had problems envisioning what he was supposed to look like finished. No inspiring vision, not fun to hold, progressively worse paint job, so he was abandoned. However, I have now run out of relatively easy paint jobs on my shelf of shame and its time to face a tougher one. So I am committed to getting him done. No quitting allowed. I went looking for inspiration and found this incredible rendition of Frorigh by @Pingo: Frorigh by Pingo It reminded me of this day: That's me. Standing on a hilltop just below the Arctic Circle on Baffin Island. At noon. In January 2000. It was about -30 C. So like an idiot I took off my glove for a macho pose. Lots of pink and blue in that picture, much like the lighting Pingo used on her rendition of Frorigh. It inspired me to make a spring rendition instead. in the spring the sun is still low on the horizon, but the light is intense, and it's relatively warm. As soon as the snow melts enough to expose the ground, the flowers start blooming. Behind the snow drifts and rocks, there are still long dark blue shadows. So, I have decided to do my rendition of Frorigh with the light shining as though the sun is low on the horizon shining down directly on top of his helmet. I'm going to add a couple of extra snow banks. I'm also going to try to put some appropriate small flowers on the base between the shadows. Directional lighting effects from the low sun. SENMM on the shield boss and helmet. Okay, here we go.

Under the Repaint & Rebuild column, we have the Ral Partha Frost Giant, 11-436. A classic version of the Frost Giant for Ral Partha's AD&D line back in the day. Amusingly, I was rather proud of this paint job back in the day. I cut the base out of thick clear plastic and then edged it with a rotary tool. Mixed snow, sand painted white and such to cover the large integral base and painted him up. However, on his way to an early days Finger Lakes Paint Day, he and a few other minis got unceremoniously dropped on the floor in their container. They weren't individually contained. They were just pulled from the shelf, loosely wrapped in paper towels to keep them bouncing off each other and taken in to show off. However, I didn't get out the door before my elbow bumped something and wham, down they went. The Frost Giant comes apart at the waist and the shield comes off. Naturally he came apart at the waist and in my heart sunk condition I shelved the whole box and didn't touch it again until recently. So, I dipped him, cleaned him and re-based him yesterday at paint day. With one distinct difference in the base ... The ice sheet of his old base is now the ice sheet sitting on top of water on top of his new base. The base is one of the 2-inch tile squares I use a lot with a 1-inch plastic tile holding up the old base: I used Golden Heavy Gel with no coloring as the water between the top and the bottom bases after painting the lower base with an aqua/sea blue I mixed from Warpaint Hydra Blue and Reaper Ultramarine Blue. I added a skull floating/hanging in the ice/water near the front of the base to add SKULLZ for my buddy @ub3r_n3rd because ... SKULLZ!! I painted that up on a stick beforehand and used part of the stick to help plant the skull in the gel after I had "cooked" it to set a bit. Speaking of cooking it. I improvised a low-heat method to "bake" the mini all day after assembly: All lights are energy efficient but still generate a lot of heat using the metal shades and the direct contact of the bulb under him. Last night when the gel had contracted a lot, I added more gel to fill the gaps back to the edges of the tile. Here's a close up of the skull. I also sprayed the giant later last night after masking off the base. I am back in the office today to do a little work and paint. So he's back on the lamps "baking" the gel. Upcoming: Ice ... I am going to use the crackle effect I got from Ub3r to create a cragged, icy appearance on the plastic base and bring it level with the integral base to a degree. The plastic base will be painted an icy blue to show through the cracks. Gloves and Sleeves ... I painted his hands as gloves last time to avoid messing with full blue skin. However, this time I plan to add more blue to him. Whether the blue will be in the form of bare hands or bare arms I am unsure. More Water ... as the latest gel contracts I will likely have to add more gel to get it level again towards the edges. I expect should give me some nice edges within the water to look through. Shield ... gonna put some more effort into the shield this time and paint a device on it. Part of the reason I left it off. Stay tuned and Enjoy!

Howdy all, Dmagamus here. Sat down yesterday and painted this lovely lady up in one long sitting. If you'll allow me a moment to gush, I wrapped up a campaign last night that has spanned from level 1 to 20 and lasted nearly 3 years. I need a giant spellcaster for the final fight, and I wanted it to look pretty good, so I put a pretty fair amount of time into it. I think it came out pretty well.

Although there was a tragic sealant malfunction, I managed to save the first set of minis I've completed in some time using some tips and tricks...and having a better can of sealant available to fix the foggies. Since I am still running Storm King's Thunder, I thought the first minis from the Kickstarter I would paint should be the Giants of Bones 3. First, we have the whole lot, with Sir Forscale striking a pose. Then, we'll just get frosty: The King: The Queen (clearly the one in charge) A Frost Giant standing guard: A more eager Giant: Then, we heat things up with the Fire Giants! The King says, "That knight went that way!" A Warrior pursues. I removed the spiked ball and chain from his belt...I wasn't a big fan of that look. I left the bases as a decoration. Another Fire Giant guard stands by, in case Forscale returns. The Jailor stands by, awaiting the Knight's return in chains. You may notice the Fire Giant Queen is missing...I thought she was too similar to the original, and wanted to convert her to a more active pose, since Bones are so much easier to cut. She's been set aside for now. Overall, I think the recovery process from the sealer foggies went well. Looking at the photos, the process de-flocked their bases more than anything, which I'll fix. Eventually.
