  1. Hello All, Here is a Bones plastic 77736 "Ankoa, Barbarian Hero" I completed last January. Thank you for looking.
  2. A quick and easy paintjob! Still enjoyed it! 😄
  3. This is the Bones dire bear. I have been painting some stuff for D&D. Nothing in particular, just things that might be useful. I figured a bear, dire or otherwise might come in handy and he was quick and easy to paint!
  4. Here is a figure I painted for the game Rangers of Shadow Deep. Buckyball
  5. I somehow forgot to post this guy when I finished him last year. I painted him shortly after I finished his queenly counterpart. I had some issues with the ice on the base so it didn't turn out exactly as I hoped but it's ok. Painting these big guys is sure a whole different experience to painting the "normal" sized minis.
  6. I found one more wolf in my "hoard of unpainted things". He must have been in the Halloween goodies or the Christmas stocking. Oh well, I wanted a white wolf for my pack and now I have one! I would take more poses of wolves (hint, hint, Reaper!)
  7. I have gone through my "hoard of unpainted things" and painted all of my wolf and wolf-like critters. This one is the Death Dog from Bones 3. I am really glad I did the Kickstarter because I ended up with so many minis I have enjoyed painting that I probably would not have purchased otherwise. This is one of them. Not that there is anything wrong with him, I think I would have gone for a regular wolf or werewolf before going for a two-headed wolf. However, he is going to have fun chomping adventurers! So in addition to the warg and winter wolf that I already painted, I did this one, a werewolf, and the dread wolves that came with the cemetery set. All of them are the Bones versions.
  8. These are the dread wolves from the cemetery set in Bones 3. I think I might work on the rest of the cemetery set this week. I need to work on Count Lorenth of the Reaper Facebook Quarterly Contest too! Anyway, these creepy wolves have seen better days. I'm not sure if they are undead or only mostly dead (bonus points if you get the reference) but I painted them up so that I think they will work either way. Adventurers will certainly get a nasty disease if they are bitten or scratched by one of these guys! I painted these in my push to paint all of the toothy fluffs in my "hoard of unpainted things".
  9. Has anyone seen a little girl wearing a red hood and carrying a picnic basket? Asking for a friend! Here is my version of the Bones werewolf. He is a very beefy guy and was fun to paint. Since I was painting all of my wolfish figures, I tried to give them a mix of colors. This guy got the same fur treatment that I did on my warg. I need a few more "normal" wolves for my pack and will probably do at least one white. For now, I have finished all of the ones that I own. I had a good time painting them but am ready to paint something that doesn't have fur!
  10. This is the winter wolf from Bones 3. I want my pack to have a variety of fur colors. When googling wolves, I found a photo of one that was black with light grey/white tipped fur so that is the look I chose for this one. To me, it looks like he has been backed into a corner and is getting ready to spring!
  11. Here is a warg for my D&D campaign. He can be a direwolf, stand in for a pack leader wolf, etc. I love this mini! Lots of detail and fun to paint!
  12. For your consideration, I offer you the Frost Giant King from the Bones 3 Kickstarter. He is the pair to the Frost Giant Queen and I am not disappointed in the sculpt. This miniature (bigature?) is packed with details and a metric-ton of space to paint and practice textures. The level of detail for Bones miniatures continues to impress me. The King and Queen were both primed with Krylon and sealed with Dull Cote and neither exhibits tackiness. The bits that stick out - like the butt of the spear - did rub off when I handled it during painting. I really had to work my way from the inside out to paint this big guy. The fur textures on the fur cape was an enjoyable ride. I look forward to seeing what others do with this team of Giants, and I'm eyeballing the release schedule for the Frost Giant Guards. I recommend purchasing the Royalty as soon as they are available. Gratitude for all who participated in the WiP thread. Your enthusiasm kept me going. #respect #gratitude I hope you enjoy. :)
  13. I'm working on a pair of minis for a friend's D&D ranger. I have the wolf pretty much done -- and I'm generally happy with him. But...the face! I don't feel like he has a face. The eyes don't stand out at all (I tried some brighter orange-yellow shades and ended up with something that looked like The Joker's lapdog). The whole face seems to just moosh into the rest of the body and disappear. I know this is a contrast thing -- I just have no idea how to attack it. I tried brightening highlights, I tried glazing in shadows. All I end up with is a darker or lighter version of the same problem. Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks, Group Mind!
  14. So, recently I've been taking on several commissions, and of them, this is the first I've finished! One of my fellow players at our FLGS asked me to paint an archer mini for him. I told him to take some time picking one out, and a week or two later, he brought me this guy: Now, first, to address the elephant in the room: this is obviously Tanis Half-Elven, right? I mean, it's not even subtle, this is totally him. I can't be the only person who sees it... The mini itself is pretty solid, but that's a very accurate representation of the paint job: wash everywhere, lumpy colors. I'll be honest, though, even unmodded it's not a bad mini compared to a LOT of the prepaints - anatomy's solid, pose is strong, and the detailing is simple enough that the paint job almost works. But anyways! So, the orders of business, as per my client's requests: - Cloak painted black with green highlighting; not just dark-green - Replace the bow with a better one that's less wiggly (his one was pretty deformed - Copper skin and brown hair; the character is a wood elf I suggested doing some additional sculpting on it, which caught his ear - he was really excited by my suggestion of a black fur capelet to complement the darkened cloak. So, the finished mini! So, first off: The sculpting. I did a pretty simple swap for the bow, since I'm pants at hands - cut off the old one, cut a bow from a Reaper Weapon Sprue in half, glued in place. Ordinarily I'd pin, but with the base mini so flexible, it's actually pretty sturdy - the hand bends away from pressure before there's any danger to the bow. I fiddled with it before I painted - it's definately strong enough for gameplay, even if the mini's lifted by the weapon. Then I moved to the fur. I did the caplet, first - just a simple little thing to sculpt, work the GS in and then texture. I suggested this for two reasons: one, the sculpting on the upper shoulders was a lot weaker than the rest of the cape, more bunchy, and two, the shading I had planned for the cape works better on the billowy bits than the narrow folds, so if I could just paint those, I'd take it. That said, a professional is never less than perfect, so I didn't tell the guy that. I merely said, "Like the King in the North, but with black bear fur," and he was pumped. I also didn't really like the sculpting on the arms, and the decorative tongues on the boots, if we're being honest. So, some thin strips of greenstuff and a Xacto knife later, he was wearing fur boots and gloves. Then, one rebasing later, I was ready to talk color! I did the cape first - Walnut Brown, with Vallejo's Luftwaffe Cam Green highlights, and Pure Black used in thin lines to deepen the folds. Pure black for the fur, too - but then Nuln oil as a wash, to add gloss to the "fur pelt". Once the cloak was done, I realized that changing the color of the cloak meant a complete pallette change, too. I hate brown-on-brown clothing, so I moved to a darker green as a better fit for the cloak, with some brown trim. The pants I took from a khaki white to more of a silver-green - the color is a mix of the green and brown used for the cloak and belt, with white to shade. Although the colors I used are all pretty warm, I tried to give the figure itself a more wintery feel, keeping the palette darker and more subdued.- the sort of ranger you'd imagine slipping through the undergrowth on a cool winter morning, the sun still low in the sky, blending into the shadows of evergreens as he slides towards his prey. But, to bring in some more of the warmness of his hair and skin, I accented him in gold, which makes his weapons stand out and gives them a little more definition against the cloak. All in all, this was a great mini to paint! It was a lot of fun getting to do some of my own sculpting, since most of the minis I've painted lately have been either custom jobbos from places like Heroforge, or more exotic/expensive minis from fancy companies, where the player went and found the *perfect mini* and I just have to get the painting right! And, for the edification of anyone wondering, this guy, with weaponswap/sculpting/painting, took around 4-5 hours, and I charged the guy 40$. I still need to base him, but I'm waiting to do that with the guy, so I can get his opinion; all i've done so far is sculpt a greenstuff "earth" base.
  15. Sorry, I had to get punny with the title. This is DSM's Musk Ox Warrior. I will admit, I got a bit tired of him towards the end. The thickness of the fur is such that even 95% done I was finding nooks and crannies that had no paint applied to them. Michael Proctor did DSM's gallery version. For one, I wanted the figure to still look like a musk ox, so we are pretty similar in that respect. And the colors we chose are similar although not the same. I deliberately did some things different as to not copy Mr. Proctor's excellent beast. Nonetheless, his freehand on the purse and the loincloth served as an inspiration for mine. When I did the rainbow fairy I was asked if I was going to line the intersection of colors on her skirt. I didn't, but for three reasons: I liked how it was without lining, I'd already planned it without lining, and I was worried about fudging up the good work if I tried. For the musk ox's freehand parts though, I tried, but I cheated at it a bit. I painted the outline color first, then painted the main color inside the "liner". Also: @Doug Sundseth, I am bringing my camera next paint-meet-up to pick your brain on getting my settings right. My depth of field is suffering on photography. As always, C&C, rip it to shreds. Inform me of my failures. I also accept praise in the form of (literal or figurative) cookies.
  16. Update on the Frost Giant King. Cheers to the recommendation on Bases to replace the GW base! I have a slew of baes now for my projects. Plus this base is so much better. I hope to add more embellishment like rocks to match the Queen after I get this chap sorted. So many smooth surfaces asking for textures. Leather texture after the inner cloak is done. The spear shaft wood.grain has to wait until the end as the butt of the spear continues to be worn off during painting. The sword will be a session work in-and-of itself. Enjoy!
  17. Here it is: the dreaded Demogorgon... This was the first larger scale mini I painted. It was a lot of fun, especially watching it come alive with a wash on the furry and scaley bits. Enjoy! As always, tips and suggestions are welcome. :) -E.E.
  18. I have no clue where I got this guy, but I envisioned him silently watching over a windswept field somewhere, which caused me to go kind of crazy with the flock. :-) Does anyone recognize this mini?
  19. Presenting a full set (plus pin-up) of Lion Armour wearing Survivors from the Kingdom Death: Monster game, there's a small WIP of them here. I kept the painting on them very, very simple as I'm not one of life's natural batch painters, plus I'm a bit so-so on the minis themselves (personally I would've preferred a set of nice monopose ones to represent each armour style rather than these very manikin-like multipose kits). But seeing them in a group like this, they don't look that bad. Any comments and criticisms are, as always, warmly received.
  20. Finished up the Vourgha the Ogre late last night, and based him this afternoon. So here he is! Pic's Some close ups of his face: This was the 1st time I tried '5 O'Clock shadow' on a figure, and I thought it came out well... At least 1 of the close ups seems to be in focus Comments Welcome! 8) George Of to Irrisen in Golarion now for a few hours...
  21. Hi !!!! A really quick and easy model. I'm not a big fan of Avatar of War... Poor assembly, many bug... But this model is cool.
  22. Hey all! Been working on and off on this guy, he won't make the August cut, but... I recently got new brushes, and am learning to wet blend and layer so he is a transition figure... The furs, hair and boots were worked on in my old paint, wash, high light style, now I guess that will end up forming the base coat for my new learning works in wet blending, layering, use of a wet palette and all these other new tips and tricks... His skin is GW Tanned flesh, Layered up with GW Dwarf Flesh. His eyes were done with the 'Bette Davis' eyes tutorial from 'The Craft' section. Just a couple pics for comments: Thanks! 8) George
  23. Another set of minis painted as a learning session for the girlfriend. Basing isn't done.:
  24. For the last 3-4/4 for the Feb RP Challenge, 2x of the Orc Marauder as seen in the LTPK. Somethin' feels a little off in the finished product but I can't tack down just what yet Better pics will likely come when I get time to setup/use my lightbox.
  25. As my first project after doing LTPK #1, I decided to try my hand at the Gnoll Warrior. I figured the armor+fur techniques I've learned so far would apply well. However, I thought I'd try to do something a little different with the fur color. Here's the pics, more info after: I'm pretty happy with the mace and shield at this point (True Silver + wash of Black Ink for the metal, Intense Brown + wash with Walnut Brown for wood on the shield). The fur, on the other hand, I'm not so sure about. The idea was to make this a "frost gnoll" or something like that by getting some sort of icy or arctic looking fur. What you see in the picture is the result of a base coat of Sapphire Blue, followed by a wash of Pure White, and finally another wash of extremely diluted Sapphire Blue. I'm having a really hard time deciding if I want to do the same with the rest of his fur, or paint over that with something completely different. Part of my problem is that I'm working with a pretty limited selection of colors while I wait for my Kickstarter bones and paint sets. I've got the colors from LTPK #1, plus a shiny purple and a Mint Green. I'm wondering if it would be possible to achieve a sandy brown tone for the fur, akin to a hyena or desert fox, using only the Tanned Skin, Intense Brown, and Pure White I've got on hand, or if I'm just S.O.L until I obtain some yellow paint. Anyway, what do you guys think? Any other suggestions for color choices and techniques on this mini?
